I don’t have that problem.
Roomie: “I’m home spot!”
Spot: “Oh good, now I can properly ignore you.” < walks into another room >
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 46 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 61 with light rain showers. However, TWPTB show a large chance, as in an eighty percent plus chance, of rain overnight and into tomorrow mornin’. We shall see. Nuttin’ much on the agenda today. So the usual sloth etc. Any need to feed today will be via forage as there are plenty of sammich makin’s and such.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Good grief, I haven’t gone to bed yet~you’re making me look bad. Tone the chipper cheery down a smidge.
/s
pilot, may I be first to wish you and her Ladyship a very happy anniversary?
Having a Mc Breakfast in the recently remodeled McD’s in Leonardtown. They no longer have self-serve drinks! The very idea!!
Next stop is Food Lion for eggs and 'nanners and probably more stuff. Today’s chores include changing bed linens and cleaning the basement fireplace. And a good rollsuck upstairs. And whatever else catches my fancy.
FCD left around 4:30 so he should be passing Columbus as I post. With luck, he’ll be home before 4.
For now, tho, groceries beckon. Happy Saturday!!
Good morning!
It’s 34 degrees and somewhat cloudy, although I do see some stars. The expected high is 48F with partly cloudy skies for the day. So, all in all, a pretty mild day for December in the PNW.
I never made it out to the stores yesterday. My husband stayed in bed until late, and I decided to let him sleep in. By the time he rolled out of bed, and I had taken a shower to purify for public consumption, it would have been crazy busy out on the roads, and I just didn’t feel like dealing with it. So, I played with the puppies, took care of minor chores and watched some Netflix, PBS, and Prime between chores and trips to the yard with the puppies.
Happy Annivesary, pilot!
Yay for new contacts arriving, nellie! Boo for ex upsetting daughter! Please, always feel free to vent, because we all care and are here to offer an electronic ear and hug.
Oh, what a pita for the water issue, metal mouse. That well and truly sucks and I’m sorry you have to deal with it again.
wordy, I hope the entire household is feeling better soonest.
FCM, safe travels to FCD.
JtC, I am not a fan of sinks not facing windows, and not a fan of windowless kitchens. When I peruse real estate listings, I often see homes where kitchens are in the middle of the house and there are no windows. I crave natural light and I cannot abide houses with small windows, and dark skinny kitchens. All of this is somewhat ironic because when it becomes dark outside, I prefer to watch TV with the lights low; I leave the kitchen light on, but turn off the light in the great room. I’m a weirdo, I guess.
hippy, yeah, your body has been through a lot. It’s gonna take a minute to feel up to snuff. I’m glad you were able to check in with us, but please rest and take care of yourself.
Well, I should finish my coffee. It’s almost time for the pups’ first breakfast. I’ll feed them, take them outside to do their business, run off some steam, tidy the kitchen, and shower. Depending on when I finish, I’ll go to the stores to knock out the last of the Christmas shopping.
Hugs and my best to all.
Leonardtown FL didn’t have the 18-pack of eggs, so I’m going to check out the Charlotte Hall store a little later. Pain in the patoot. But they had blueberries on sale, so I need to make something with them.
Higgs is definitely going deaf - you have to yell really loud to get her attention. Just like her cousin Cozmo - except he’s now stone deaf. Her declining years will be interesting…
Well, I made the one bowl apple cake you linked to earlier, so I’ll be watching this space.
I’m so far behind, I’ll never catch up. Glad to see hippy checking in - get weld soon!
Also glad to see Boo - was missing your commentary. And thanks for sharing hippy’s news before he chimed in on his own.
Wrote more, but laptop decided that WiFi is evil.
I’m thinking I might try this one.
FCD called a bit ago - turns out he’d pulled into a rest stop to snooze, so he was about an hour or so behind where I thought he’d be. I’m glad he’ll stop for a power nap rather than trying to push on. Anyway, he’ll be later than I’d expected getting home - oh well…
I’m off to the other Food Lion now to see if they’re better stocked with eggs.
Mornin’ all. About 3 hours post dawn on a gray and dreery day. The almost nonstop drizzle / light rain with only occasional respite has returned after a dry Friday. Oh bother. Presently 75/24 and expected to stay that way until evening. Still breezy but not as bad, 15-25mph.
Thanks all for the kind anniversary wishes.
I’m sorry Nellie daughter is having it bad and wordy house is plague infested; may that end easily and soon.
would have been almost dinner time at my house. That’s a lot of the story of my life, just gender-reversed from yours. Sigh. OTOH, it does facilitate lots of my slothery.
Not weird at all. You like the outside to be inside (except the rain & chill). So when it’s light outside you want that happy light to come in unobstructed. And when it’s dark outside, you want that happy dark to come in unobstructed.
I’m the same way; I really enjoy the various tropical places we used to stay which are mostly open air. The only thing they have is a roof to deflect the rain. That’s all the “inside” I want if the temp is OK. Otherwise it’s all " Let the sunshine / darkshine in!
"
But what about the most important thing about the new trailer?
Way back when you were telling us about them getting ready to remove the old trailer you said the old one lacked a window facing your yard. And you enjoyed not being on display to them. And you hoped the new trailer would also point a blank face towards you.
This model has a window on both long sides but only one end. If it goes in perpendicular to the road all else equal I’d bet they put the windowless master bedroom towards you for less traffic noise. FTW. Whaddaya think?
Morning all. Slept in until 8am again, I guess cooler weather is more conducive to sleeping well. Indoor Soccer today, but going to just work it for 5-6 hours instead of all day like last Saturday. The laundry experiment worked out well, water use was close to normal for laundry and I now have clean underwear/shirts for January, so may try another load or two over the weekend. 49F now heading to 60F, clear today but rain overnight, so we’ll see if that affects the temperature.
JtC, they had our Xmas parade last week while I was at the gym, I saw a couple vehicles go by but not a lot of it. Good crowd though. Glad you had fun.
Well, I do turn the water back on around noon to fill the toilets (having 2 is nice), then try not to flush until I have too (after #2) so that lasts until the evening, then turn the water on for 10-15 minutes to refill, rinse and repeat for the morning. Only takes me 1-2 minutes to turn on and off, so not a big hassle.
FCM, glad FCD made it ok, hope he takes his time getting home, that’s some pretty major driving back-to-back like that. ETA: smart of him to grab that nap; an hour later is better than a hospital trip.
shoe, I’m glad folks at work are that comfortable with each other; it makes the workplace a nice place to be. You (and I and I bet most MMP’ers) have been in the other situation during our work-lives.
Taters, playing with dogs and watching TV along with a minor chore or two sounds like a good day for me. The stores will still be there.
I have a kitchen that doesn’t have a window, but does open up to the great room and has an adjacent breakfast nook with large windows and it works well for the way the house is configured. YMMV.
For a minute I wondered what you were doing in Florida, then I remembers FL = Food Lion and all was well with my geography…
OK, have broken fast and have an hour or two before heading off to soccer. take care all and catch up with you this evening.
If they’d been able to get my feet over my head, they’d deserve an award!
Today is better throat wise but, much like Katie Perry, I’m hot then I’m cold. Oh, I also feel like I’ve been hit with a board. (I don’t remember hearing that in the song.) The husband unit took the girl to her swim meet (he’s better), but I’m thinking we’ll be skipping our board game night with friends, where I would’ve found something else to chug. Like Christmas cookies.
It’s raining, yet the village street sweeping machine is on the job. Not really sweeping; idling in front of my house. Yesterday I walked outside without my crutch! It’s been 6 weeks and IMHO the fracture is healed to the point it doesn’t kneed support (see what I did there?). The horses are in so I will visit Ariel later but tomorrow I am staying home. I am bone tired.
I have eggs! And I cleaned the fireplace downstairs. And opened FCD’s shop via the overhead door since it’s going to be mid-50s today and any warmth will save on the electric bill out there. And I de-leafed the back deck and the area around the woodpile - with rain coming in tonight, this was a fairly urgent chore. Time for a little break, maybe some lunch, then more stuff to get done.
They neighbours across the creek have about eight cats. I’ve only talked to the guy once when he was in our back yard (down by the creek, which is inaccessible to me) with a ladder getting one of his cats out of a tree. That’s when he told me they have a total of eight cats. I think half are pets, and the other are ferals that he feeds. I know I’ve counted four cats that follow the people around over there.
Anyway, Abbey was out on the catio. I went out, and heard a noise by the cedar at the back of the usable yard. I saw a black squirrel spiralling up the tree, followed closely by a grey tabby that only went up a couple of feet. I opened the door and told Catmom there’s a cat trying to climb the tree. She didn’t get up to look, but I sat down and watched. Abbey had been watching too. Then this little kitty gets off the tree trunk and sits down and watched us everybody’s watching.
Then Abbey sits up and starts meowing. She didn’t sound threatening. So this neighbour kitty starts walking toward the catio. Abbey started sounding menacing. I told her to relax; he only wants to come say hello. Kitty gets up to the gate, and Abbey is full-on yowling. I’m trying to calm her down, but I can’t do anything because she’s just defending her territory. At this point, I knew it would be dangerous to touch her. She goes over to the sliding gate and gets into the intruder’s face. Now she hissed. The intruder hissed back, but didn’t seem to want a fight. I stand between them telling Abbey to calm down. Catmom finally came out and took over. She chased the neighbour’s cat a little bit away, and directed Abbey inside.
The thing is, neighbour kitty didn’t want to leave. He was very friendly and wanted attention. Cat mom went out the back gate and picked him up. She got about a third of the way across the yard when she said, ‘OK,’ and dropped him. He headed back toward the catio. He tried getting up on the deck and hoping one of us would open one of the side gates. Catmom tried to make him go home. I went out the back and over to the deck, and Mr. Intruder came over for pets. I picked him up with the intention of putting him on the chopping block at the back of the yard. I get about a third of the way when he emits a low growl. I said, ‘OK,’ and dropped him. He rolled around on the deck a bit, outside of the side gates, then to the near corner, and eventually went home. I don’t know where Abbey went after she went inside, but Goo was very interested when I came in, and watched this strange kitty intently.
I felt a little bad not being friendly with the stranger, but our cats come first.
Bummed out today. We were supposed to make xmas cookies with my daughter and was really looking forward to it, as it’s literally been decades since I could do that. We were going to have soup and cornbread, also. She cancelled with a sore throat. At least she told me before I made the cornbread. The wife and I will still make them together, but I was looking forward to the warm fuzzies.
Aw, I’m sorry, man. Tell her to gargle with warm, salty water … maybe she’ll feel better tomorrow?
I would have too~sorry that happened but kudos to raising a daughter who can maturely delay gratification when it’s to everybody’s health benefit. When you get to our age we need people to not share their germs and plagues casually with us because a cold or sore throat can be much harder for us to bounce back from.
I won’t be having my sacred Sunday play day with my two grandkidlets tomorrow because their dad tested positive for Covid Tuesday and will still be in isolation through Monday at a minimum. He’s barely sick but with my asthma and paralyzed half lung I’d be circling the big drain in the sky if I caught it. Because I’d gone to granddaughter’s school and had lunch with her potentially exposed six-year old self just hours before he tested positive I canceled going to my refugee/immigrant English literacy learners holiday gathering yesterday, even though so far I’ve tested negative. I’d been looking forward to that-me (non-Arabic speaking teacher) and two dozen not English fluent Arabic speaking women in a party room celebrating Christmas at an Asian buffet restaurant. I wouldn’t have understood a word they said (except for the ‘inshallahs’) but I sure enjoy their spirited congeniality and they are so gracious and welcoming to me every week.
So, I get it. Sigh. Time for us to console ourselves with a cookie .
Maybe shoe or jane can come by and give us some compensatory warm fuzzies with a Monkey or GG kitty escapade story. doggio’s Spot tales are good for that too.
That sounds like fun! Maybe reschedule, instead of canceling entirely? (You can have a multicultural holiday celebration any damn day of the year. So I have written, and so shall it be.)
Speaking of escapes …
I finally set up the fresh rat tub last night, but decided to wait till today to move them. (ASFs are nocturnal, and it’s easier to transfer a colony when they’re groggy.)
So GUESS who chewed out last night? If I’d have moved them last night, this wouldn’t have happened.
Dammit.
Monkey earned his Friskies, though, by alerting me to the location of many of them, and even helping me catch one that had gotten behind a mirror leaning against a wall - he tried to get at it from one side, which spooked the little bugger right towards me.
There’s still at least one, if not more, chilling in the old bedding, but I just did not feel like digging around for it amidst deep, dirty paper (there’s a reason they needed to be moved!) early in the morning.
I’ll try to get to it before work, but meanwhile, the door to that room is shut tight. If the last holdouts do wander out, they won’t get far.
Despite all that, I somehow managed to get a decent amount of sleep, which is good, since it’s Long Night yet again.
So, that’s my life …
Thoroughly warm fuzzy-worthy story. Give that ‘round ‘em up little cowboy’ some extra Friskies and kitteh crack, he’s earned it.
