(Old) It’s Moanday Again In The MMP

It’s travel back to NY day. With the way the connections work, I’ll be getting home around half past midnight.

Howdy Y’all! I love how we report on such things as the amount of tp on hand, laundry day, when we put out and bring back our trash cans/bins, go to the sto’ and so forth. It’s like our own little nextdoor, but without all the politics and neighborhood drama!

And in keeping up with swampy’s reportage, apples (Gala this time) have been bought, sammich eaten and last two loads of laundry (blue jeans and towels) are done, so the only not-clean clothes in the house are the ones I’m wearing. Will head over to the gym to do the Moanday swimming and weight check in about an hour and then return home for extended slothage. Up to 45F and that’s about as warm as it’s going to get today.

Flyboy, enjoy work (until something else SNAFU’s). I have ice too; 5 cubes in my Diet Pepsi…

Yep, 20+ years of leaving it outside to the mercy of the elements, so a 2-car attached garage was a must when I bought this house. Never regretted it.

Van Go, safe travels.

Onward into the day…

I have maybe 8 rolls of tp. I have more than enough things to be irrationally anxious about.

So far SEVEN Mumpers have signed up for cards from me. In case you missed it, I will be happy to send you a handmade Christmas card, no strings attached. PM me your board name, real name, and mailing address. I promise I won’t come to your house begging for money or cookies. Or liquor or weed.
But I stopped at Staples and bought a shredder, and did my Aldi run. I’m down to 48 rolls, I need to buy more.
Do you have to buy more TP because you put it in the shredder?

Just got an email from La Jefe informing everyone VPN will be down between 1200 and 1300. I’ll have to hold off contacting members whose systems automatically send data on the first of each month to re-send their files until this afternoon.

Housework today. I have to vacuum up three dogs’ worth of shed fur. I should have done that yesterday, but my mother’s “No work on Sundays!” dictum was stronger than my need to clean. And I need to clean out the fridge, my least favorite chore. There are too many leftovers I won’t get to in time.

What’s your most dreaded household chore?

swampy, I, too, love reading about the interesting minutia. I always enjoy reading about your dinner plans, for instance. For the record, I have about 30 rolls of TP, all I have space for and plenty for one person.

FCM, I still have the afghan my mother and Granny (her MIL) crocheted long before I was born. It has holes but is warm, and it comforted us kids when we were sick and on the sofa. It’s nothing special, I guess, the same pattern everyone made afghans from, but I love it. It’s so thoughtful of you to worry about strangers being warm enough.

   I believe shredding TP would be Spot’s job.

Goes off to count rolls of tp before seriously interacting with the mumpers…

I did. Do you still insist on my real name? I think it would be delivered with the correct address.

Dusting. Which is why the house occasionally looks like a winter wonderland. I try to have a go at it before it gets that bad.

OK, what follows is not for the squeamish or anyone who is tired of hearing about MIL woes.

After too long a stretch of her bowels not moving, the nurse administered a suppository this morning. And MIL being who she is, didn’t bother to say anything to either of us when it kicked in, leaving a trail from her bed to the bathroom. I bagged the diaper (the nurse left a package) and took it to the trash while FCD got his mom settled on the commode. Then I went about cleaning the carpet - naturally, I gave my carpet cleaner to Daughter yesterday so she can get ready for the holidays…

So it was hands and knees and a spray bottle and a rag. Lucky for us (I guess) our carpets are pewter color, so spotting the, er, spots was easy. After scrubbing, I sprayed febreeze in the hopes of lessening the odor. MIL is now sleeping as we await further developments.

Meanwhile, BIL is to be discharged around 5 this evening, so FCD has to drive to DC to fetch him. I need to find out if he’s coming back here or going to his apartment. Altho making up the futon is unnecessary - BIL generally sleeps in a recliner, and we have one downstairs. That’s all to be determined.

On the mundane side, I just got back from Aldi and CVS a bit ago. And since FCD will be on the road, I won’t be making much of a supper. Today, I hate my life.

At times like these I pray for the safety of the drivers.

I have two 12-packs plus a partial one, maybe six more, so 30.

38 give or take

i only have the “in use” roll. i will stop by the convenience store in my condo building for a 6 pack. even in the depths of covid that little store had charmin. they are amazing.

this one time i won 2 cases of tp in an attendance raffle. 98 rolls. i had to put a table cloth over the boxes and use them as a table.

OK, deep cleansing breath and I’m back to my usual, charming self. I just finished packaging the last of the turkey in freezer pouches, with the carcass wrapped up for Daughter - she wants to make broth and I don’t want to bother. MIL is still asleep. FCD is on his way to DC (during rush hour!!!) to fetch his brother, who will be returning to his own apartment.

I’ll be getting with BIL in the next few days to set up an on-line account for his health insurance so he can see his coverage. He’s worried to death about his medical bills, but he has no idea what’s covered and what isn’t. I also need to do some research about bill forgiveness. His income is SS - under $1K per month, and he lives in a subsidized apartment. There’s no way he can ever pay tens of thousands of dollars (just guessing what the hospital bills might be.) And he won’t call and ask about payment plans or any of that, so I need to arrive with the answers for him.

Got a bit of a giggle today - while I was with the nurse and aide, it occurred to me that our anniversary is next week, and I mentioned that I was sure FCD had no idea. Well, they told him when they had him alone, and he came sauntering into the living room with a “By the way…” So I asked him what was our anniversary date. He paused, contemplated, and said “The 10th.” I informed him, in front of the nurse and the aide, “That was your ex-wife’s birthday.” Hilarity ensued. The only reason I know that is it’s the day after our anniversary and I saw the date on their marriage license or divorce papers or something. Forty-one years and he still gets it wrong! Lucky for him, that sort of thing doesn’t bother me in the least. It does crack me up.

And now I need to find some hand lotion. Between scrubbing the floor, washing off MIL, and repeatedly washing my hands, my poor skin feels like sandpaper. I need to slather my hands in petroleum jelly before going to bed - that seems to work wonders. For now, lotion will have to do.

Sometimes I wonder… I was scanning Amazon for off-beat gift ideas since my family does a goofy-gift exchange instead of real presents, and apparently this is the year of the pooping dog calendar.

Really???

(dubious look) WHY? Don’t most people look for something either cute or funny or inspiring or pretty in calendars?

I buy the 365 Kittens a Year wall calendar each year. Works for us.

I’m in a brief stopover at home before heading out to Michigan again. Daughter’s rash improved immensely with the steroids they put her on, but she’s showing signs of steroid skin thinning, so they’re going ahead with an induction on Wednesday morning. I just made a reservation for a one-way ticket Thursday; the rest of the family will follow later for a shorter time, and I’ll go home whenever they get sick of me.

It just struck me that although I have 3 36-packs of TP (always shop from your list, folks!), Elder Daughter was down to only 5 rolls when we left on Saturday! I’ll have to stop by a store on the way in from the airport.

So you won furniture - a temporary table - AND toilet paper.
Damn, some of us should be so lucky!

Man, I live life on the edge sometimes, but that’s some serious tolerance for danger.

… and trust in infrastructure & supply chains.

Do you at least have backup napkins from some drive-thru, or a roll of paper towels??

I can guarantee that story was shared. (“You wouldn’t believe what this fool said today, right in front of his wife!!”)

I’ve seen those for a while. Kinda funny, but the awkward look in the dogs’ eyes also makes me vaguely uncomfortable.

I have put on pants (both metaphorically & literally) and retrieved the Big Scary Letter From The IRS.

Haven’t opened it yet. Stopped on the way home at the tiny taco place (OMG my one single steak-cilantro-onion smells so good!) and wandered to the nearby Corner Sto’ while I was waiting, to get a bag of candy for tomorrow at work.

I almost always put sweet treats on the break table (“they’re for everyone to share!”) although I will admit to hiding things in my locker or apron pocket sometimes.
Coworker: “Did you just … pull out a lollipop? While making that pizza?”
Me: “Uhhh … nooo??” (Absolutely yes totally.)

I think calling my mother and scooping the litter box (Monkey, what did you DO?!?) sounds like an excellent and far more pleasant way to spend my time, than doing the needful.

Hey, I retrieved the letter. Now it’s not lost to the grips of the USPS. Baby steps.

Oh, and thanks to @JaneDoe42 for the P.M. it was helpful, informative, AND supportive. Thank you, sweet lady. Thank you.

I really thought I’d be able to pop into the new thread earlier today! Work wasn’t particularly busy, but a couple of tasks took more time than expected. The important thing is that I have arrived.

Yesterday it was really great to see my friend and our Thai lunch was yummy, but The Nutcracker was just so-so. The dancing was good enough, but the story changes were meh. Granted, it was only my second time seeing a production, but even my friend – a Nutcracker aficionado – agreed that it was only alright. Oh well. It wasn’t a bad show, all of the kids in the audience were well-behaved, and it got me out of the house. And now we know to skip this particular production if it comes around again next year. My friend isn’t on Facebook, so we have to stay in touch the old-fashioned way (you know, via emails and text messages ). Right now we have no other shows planned; we’ll see each other again in mid-February, at the local indoor jazz festival.

The local volunteer fire department starts their “Santa on a classic fire truck” neighborhood rides tonight, and mine is first on the list. He’ll be coming through sometime after 5pm. I don’t think the truck typically comes down my street, but I have the VFD’s Santa Tracker bookmarked just in case: it’s too cold/I don’t care enough to walk a couple blocks, but if he happened to pass my door I’d step outside to wave and take a photo!

Thanks! I’m thinking that I’ll post a week’s worth at a time; maybe every Saturday morning. Today’s item was a tiny red bird ornament. :bird:

Alternately, you could supplement your stick with something like this:

In addition to shoe’s observation, there are those of us who only need “some” blanket: one with no holes would be too much/too warm!

That is both wonderful and terrible. :joy:

*GASP*…how could you drop the “n” word so casually?!?

I’ve outsourced two of 'em (cleaning the house and cutting the grass), but of what’s left I’d have to say dragging the biiiiig trash can to the curb once a week – and also putting it back on the patio when it’s empty. It takes all of 2 minutes each time, but for some reason I hate doing it! To the point where some weeks…if the can isn’t totally full…I will actually skip a pickup for no good reason. A close second would be shoveling snow, which narrowly avoids first place only because it just happens a few times a year.

Baby steps are totally still progress!!

Howdy Y’all! We napped, we day drank, we stared at teevee and other screens. We are RDOS pros! I did the Sam’s run. A peekahn pie fell in my cart so I felt obligated to buy it. The pizza was kind of good. We had sallit so it was also healthy. Oh and the biiiiiig trash can got hauled all the way back up the driveway to where it lives.

I hate when I need to go through closets and straighten things up. I also despise cleanin’ the fridge and pantry out.
