Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated and then got a Mclunch to bring back to da cave and eat. The rest of the day has been spent in RDOS inactivities inside where it’s cool. Other Verger and I will be doin’ the food for VBS, which is happenin’ in three weeks. I don’t mind doin’ that cause I don’t actually have to interact to much with the little VBSers other than feedin’ 'em sup and then a snack before they go home. Besides the food is easy. The little crumbsnatchers wants stuff like hot dogs, pizza, lasagna, dino nuggets and mac & cheese. We do make sure they get veggies and fruit as well. Oh and cookies, brownies, ice cream and such. Hey, I don’t have to deal with 'em all sugared up, so why not.
In other news we watched stoopid teevee and the biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Now it’s time to see whatup on teh intartoobz.
I napped. There was a thunderstorm. 2 hours later the lights flickered. It rained enough that I have a flood advisory and a drought at the same time. Welcome to N.C. Having a Wisconsin Old Fashioned, poke loin, sweet N.O.T., and Margret Holmes peppers n’ peas.
All the rank and file gets the same good benefits(Thank you Teamsters), and I am happy with my hours. Besides, the only full time positions in the building are driver(crawling around an overloaded cargo area for 12 hours with no A/C) and carwash(moving packages cars around in the middle of the day with no A/C)
But they don’t do it to CDO specs, and that eats at me.
In the throes of “OMG a three-level house!!!” laziness shortly after moving, I got a small beverage fridge for the basement: I figured if it worked well, I’d also get one for the home office on the top floor. It’s great, but now that it’s been a few weeks and I’ve settled more into living here I realize that I don’t actually need a drink fridge on either floor – but, since I already have one, today I decided that it would be more helpful upstairs. So, because I didn’t punish my back enough yesterday, a little while ago I carried the heavy-ish fridge up two flights of stairs…and then carried the even heavier bookcase that it sits on up two flights of stairs.
And then I decided that I should really take it to work, to keep under my desk. Especially as my entire team is about to move to a classified/closed space, and in another week or two I’ll have to start going through a security door (on the other side of the floor) in order to get to the lunchroom. So, tomorrow I’ll ask about bringing it in…if I can walk/stand upright in the morning.
In other news, if the Yankees don’t score at least one run sometime soon – or if Boston scores again before they do – I might have to switch back to watching The Good Wife (I’m halfway through the final season; when it’s over I’ll almost definitely start re-watching The Good Fight). Stupid Red Sox.
Thank you for saying “your totally dorky obsession amuses me” in a very polite way.
Thanks, but mine charges a fee for bulk pickups. Someday I might call them about taking away the old recycling can, but for now out of sight = out of mind.
You’re only part-time? Good grief! I don’t know which tires me out more – reading about your work, or FCM’s retirement.
Back in April they ran (swam?) the 26th annual duck race in the Pawtcatuck River (CT/RI state line) every year. I gather around 18,000 of the 20,000 ducks were sponsored this year, and the grand prize was a trip for four (two parents and two kids) or $2500.
Evening all. Just glanced at the clock and it’s closing in on 9pm as I type this, so Slumberland is not that far away. Did dine at Metro Diner and sweated calories off at the gym while watching Canada escape with a win in the World Cup, then home, sorted out the laundry, ate sammiches and pretty much done nothing else useful. Temperature is still 82F outside so happy the AC is working (won’t be that happy when the bill comes, but that’s next months problem).
And 12 hours since I wrote last–I have been remiss. Let’s get to it…
red, I do know what you mean by ‘sweet pittie’. Have met several around here and they are the happiest dogs who love attention (of course good owners have a lot to do with that).
52, hope dinner was satisfactory (and I see father down it was).
Yeah, but this came out of the washer when I transferred the load and I know it wasn’t there at the start…just one of the mysteries of the universe.
Boo fae, glad the road trip was a success, and gladder still it cooled down a bit; we’re due to have highs in the 90’sF (32-35C) all this coming week and it’ll be hotter still in other parts of the USA. Think those World Cup players may need the hydration breaks this week…
Mollie, That’s a lot of traveling for the Mrs. Hope everything goes as planned.
Oopsie, I have a 6-piece sectional and it can be a bear to move around, so I sympathize. Hope the back is feeling better. And if the old bin out of sight, might as well keep it, might even be useful one day. And if your backs aching tomorrow, well, you know who to blame (Biden? ).
Cookie, the Sunday crossword is kicking my butt right now, but I’ll keep plugging away at it. Did complete the Acrostic, if was easy to figure out most of the quote and where it was from so not hard to solve.
More of them going outbound than in, I think…
JtC,
I suspect many if not most husbands have that failing. Thing is, they have no clue that they have said failing…(so sayeth the life-long bachelor…)
Cat Glove, hoep Hubs is doing better, I vacillitate between worrying I’m drinking too much fluid and having to pee too often and not drinking enough and getting dehydrated. This week has been pretty well-balanced, however, so I’ll try to keep doing…whatever I’ve been doing.
Knots, thanks for keeping me up on slang old and new, only trains I know are the ones on Virtual Railfan.
Hippie, Oh. My. Goodness. I hope that the time in jail has let him return to society without being a danger, but I’d be nervous anyway after reading that report…
And it’s now 9:30pm and I want to finish a You Tube vid I found on “Red Bull Soapbox Races” because ‘humans doing silly things because why the hell not’ still gives me some modest hope for humanity. Catch y’all tomorrow on the next MMP.
Mrs. L.A. was in a mood last night, when I mentioned the re-wiring estimates I saw on the local FB group. She said, ‘It’s not that hard! It’s easy!’ So today I got a call from a guy I’d called yesterday. He said he charged a flat rate, plus materials. His high ballpark figure was half of what the FB community said it should be. Since I work at a credit union, I can get a loan for 6.99%. (I also have a little money in savings.) I’ve got a lot of stuff to move to the storage unit, so as to have access to all of the receptacles.
But the cold line is still kaput - we used the “2 bags of ice” method which worked surprisingly well. It took me FIVE buckets of hot water to melt it all, even after a 10-hour stint.
Speaking of, I was complaining about how hard the ice was fighting me back at the end of the night, and one of my coworkers helpfully piped up with, “Get you a bucket of real hot water.”
First of all, I was on my 4th bucket.
Second of all, what the hell did you think I was doing, going back’n’forth to the sink while you were standing there washing dishes?
Third of all, this fool boy thinks I was born yesterday. “Melt ice with hot water? Whaaaaa… ?!? { forehead smack } Why didn’t I think of that?”
This made me smile.
Well, as we all know, 'tis good to be juvenile.
I made sure to drink lotsa water, too.
I’d laugh. And sip.
I guess “often” works, too, if brevity is your thing.
Oh, she didn’t mean it like in a Clint Eastwood type menacing way. She just meant I wouldn’t hafta interact with her.
She didn’t show back up today, for those playing along.
Me, too! It’s pretty full this week, so I didn’t wanna take a chance on forgetting. Or saying, “Ah, eff it” and then having regrets.
Was accompanied by a couple of instances of “dry lighting” just in the few minutes the task takes, which we also saw at work earlier. I don’t think I’d ever heard the term before a fellow crew commented on it.
Had fancy tuna sushi (it’s from a box at the frozen section of the good supermarket ) to nibble on all day. Was supposed to be yesterday’s food, but .. nope. Yesterday was just a big ol’ nope. Anyway, at least I had that to look forward to for today.
But all evening I was craving some sort of fluffy carby-thing, to offset all that protein I guess, so I just plopped a mini-tube of whomp croissants into the oven.
… and it was rainy earlier & is now quite hyoooomid, so between that & the oven, I’m really glad I left Coolio running throughout my shift.
Monkey has just had some gooshy-fud, so don’t let him lie to you and say how poorly he’s mistreated.
Is that what y’all call it when a cat tucks its paws under?
