(Old) It's a-warmin' up (again!) in the MMP

Is this enough?

It’s a good start! :yum:

I win :grin::

Which means we all win. Yaay choclate!

That’s one hell of a fountain starting at about 33 seconds in. I wonder how many sore tummies that store can create before they need to be restocked? Lots.

If any Dopers come through Topeka I’ll take you to a local shop, Hazel Hill’s Chocolates. It is independent and has overcome the odds an independent place faces. It;s been around for about twenty years now. One of my favorite items is the chocolate and caramel covered apples, which are rolled in a variety of things. My favorite is called the Pecan Hill Apple.

Trivia for you. The scientific name for the tree which produces the cocoa bean is theobroma cacao, and theobroma means food of the gods.

susan and engineer_comp_geek, your pictures have sent me inton a high glucose level just by looking at them.

Now we are talking!

Today is beginning of the the annual quilt guild show. Sunflower and I were up early and went to the venue for set up. We helped unload all of the pieces for the display rack and the She stayed and helped assemble them while I went to the Eye doctor for my glaucoma scan. I was back in the game an hour later. We spent the rest of the day with carts helping the vendors unload and set up their booths. While we did that others mounted the quilts on the display racks. I was impressed with the way they did that. There were two ladies in a rolling scaffold. A couple of people pushed them as they hung the quilts and there was a chain of people handing them taking them out of the totes and handing them up to the hangers. They did the whole venue in just a couple of hours. There are a lot of beautiful quilts on display. We will go tomorrow when the show opens up to shop through the vendors and see how the judging turned out.

Unlimited chocolate tasting, and the sacred trees. Road trip!

There’s a wiseass in every crowd. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yay for no one getting killed shady. My last move, I packed, hired a moving company to schlep my belongings and then unpacked. Great investment.

metal mouse, I am a busy person. As I told my boss, I don’t stare at walls well.

TGIT! I’m tired and sore (the pulled hamstring has been hollering for a couple of days) and ready for my weekend. When I got home, there was a young woman doing pre-paint work on my building, so I asked her (in both English and Spanish) if she’d like some water. She said yes and I took some out to her when I took Nelson out (he didn’t even bark at her, unusual when someone is in his yard :stuck_out_tongue: ). It’s just warm enough that someone outside needs to stay pretty hydrated.

When icing down a glass for some tea, one of the cubes landed on the floor and Nelson got about 10 minutes of hockey out of it before propelling the puck under the stove. I was as entertained as he was. :stuck_out_tongue:

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Ooh, photos, please!

And a good late afternoon/early evening to all. Pedaled 500 calories away this afternoon and also took the garbage out (due to the holiday it won’t be picked up until tomorrow). The mail had a nice little gift, my Insurance company paid for the electricity I used to dry out the carpet/floor on the leak a couple months ago, so I have an extra $24.53 to my name…don’t know where I’ll spend it all…

red, nice act of random kindness there. My brother’s bassets never used to play with ice cubes, they crunched and ate them.

hippie, I’m not a quilter, but that sounds like a nice group of folks to be spending time with. Enjoy.

All y’all go easy with that chocolate stuff; I try not to keep it in the house because my resistance is weak, but those pictures may make me stop somewhere to spend that $24.53 I mentioned above…
.
engineer_comp_geek, thanks for the explanation. Now, will we all be getting that reminder each year, and if so, can we have a party?

Sunny, hope stuff came and went in the proper sequence.

Mea Culpa, BBBoo; next time I’ll do something destructive away from the MMP…

Well Har dee har har…besides, that could lead to the Great Molasses Flood…Great Molasses Flood - Wikipedia

OK, just got a short burst of rain, maybe 5-10 minutes worth. Am dressed to head over to the gym to knock off a little more weight, but I’ll peek at the weather map first. All y’all take care.

FlyBoy I like the idea of heavy cream!

I’ll try this!!

Sunny, Niner Thank you’ll as well!

Food is much cheaper in Taiwan, and they sell boxed lunches / dinners which are really good and very reasonable. My kids had school lunch so we didn’t need to cook as much. Here, it’s three meals a day! Just thinking of what to cook next seems to be a full time job by itself.

I tried making some butter braised cabbage for their lunch today, as a side dish to pork and sasauge, with rice.

This week has ended up far, far busier than I’d expected. Part of it is because I met someone that grew up 30 minutes from where I grew up and is as much of a geek as I am. We’ve had a blast getting to know one another and, sadly, I’ve spent far more time chatting with him than doing anything else.

Today, I had to go get Dad to bring him into town for a doctor’s appointment. The only problem was that, since his appointment was at 9:15, I had to leave the house by 6:30 this morning. On my way out of town, I saw the weirdest thing. I’m not sure how it happened, but one of the power poles near the elementary school my kids went to had the whole bottom taken off. It was still connected to the power lines, and the top of the pole was just kind of hanging there. I wish I’d been able to take a picture but I wasn’t expecting it and didn’t have the time to stop at the store across the street to get a pic. It was just surreal.

Dad’s appointment went well. It was an appointment with his heart doctor and everything looked really good. His doctor doesn’t want to see him for six months, which makes me feel good. With that, the fact that PT has been working on getting him back to being able to move around, and that he’ll be restarting peridyalisis on Monday has me feeling really good about Dad. He’s even hoping to be able to start driving himself places again. That would be really nice, for him and for me. I don’t mind driving out to him, though it’s expensive in gas and just the driving part of everything is close to 4 hours for me. But he’s my dad and I don’t begrudge helping him again. For him, having his autonomy in terms of being able to go wherever he wants will do a lot for his mood.

My best friend is coming back up again this weekend. No idea what the plan is while she’s here beyond lots of board games. It’ll be good to have her here though. Maybe I can find something for us to watch.

Seeing Sunny’s hair coloring pic reminded me that I needed to show off my new dye job.

Imgur

I really like the way it looks. I’m glad that I decided I went with this instead of purple. I think it really does look better on me than the purple would have.

I’ve read everything but, other than Sunny’s pic and an overwhelming desire for chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate, nothing much is staying in the brain. I achieved nappage today, but my brain is really swiss cheese. I’m lucky I remember my own name. It’s FalseBabboon, right?

I’m off to play some games on my computer for a bit. It’s just what I need for getting my brain right. Have a great night/day/whatever, my lovely mumper friends!

Also also great hair!

If a truck hits it just right it snaps in the 5-10 feet off the ground and the upper part is left hanging from the wires. The police or fire dept who clear the accident then haul off the stump and the power company comes back to sister in a new pole base later that day. Happens pretty regularly.

Once you know to look for them you can sometimes see 10 or 15 foot tall bare power poles strapped to another pole that starts a few off the ground and goes all the way up to the usual crossbar(s), insulators, and wires. That’s what a repaired base snap looks like.

Agree that both Sunny & truefish have some great color. You’re only as old as your hair looks. In which case I’d be in trouble, but mine was gray back when I was 28, so I’m still 28 now, right? … RIGHT???

Very nice!!

And good news about your father. My mother has heart problems as well. She’s 88 and still ticking.

As promised.

I baked the chicken thighs (both kinds) in a pre-heated 400ºF oven for about an hour. I cut a 5⅝-ounce Russet potato lengthwise into quarters, then cut the quarters into thick chunks. I put it into a zip-top bag with a very little bit of dried rosemary (that was all that was left in the container), and then dumped them onto a foil-lined pan. I added a large pinch of kosher salt and the leaves from two sprigs of rosemary that I cut off of the plant. I took the potatoes out of the oven before the chicken was done.

This was the first time I’ve made Italian Dressing-marinated chicken thighs. They turned out well. Mrs. L.A. said they were good, and Goo enjoyed her tribute. I had one of the boneless, skinless, thighs in addition to the other one. Mrs. L.A. drank X-Buck Chuck Cabernet Sauvignon. ‘It tastes like Kool Aid. The [Yellow Tail] got me drunk last night.’ I had the Yellow Tail Cabernet.

Good dinner, easy to make, just remember to marinate overnight.

Sorry for the newbie question.

You put the potato chunks into the bag (?). Are you taking them out of the bag? Was this just for flavoring and not baking or am I missing something? Sorry about the stupid question. Is there any liquid in this?

The overnight marinating seems to be the key.

My mother only cooked very simple things so I’m just learning now and I apologize for not understanding basic cooking . . .

It’s very useful!

Guess what Y’all! I had a bout of unslothfulness (is too a word, I just made it up!) and mowed the front and back yahd! To celebrate I had a shower followed by an ice cold beerverage whilst sittin’ on the back porch admirin’ my handiwork. Go Me! This means tomorrow I can be extra slothful to make up for this evenin’s lack of sloth.
