I put the potatoes into a bag with the olive oil, and then squeezed to coat. No marinating, just coating with oil. You could do it in a bowl, but I’m lazy and we have zip-top bags.
‘Very simple’ is ‘basic cooking’.

Happy Thorsday!
Crazy times here. A lot of rain and the GR don’t want to play outside.
My house is not big enough for @100 pounds of dog zoomies.
At least Echo got them to chase her up and down the stairs a few times, it’s noisy but wears them out faster.
I took them outside tonight hoping they would play on the deck, but the asshole two doors down has the firepit going and it’s too smokey to sit outside.
I’m grumpy as fuck because nothing is getting done the way it should. Or everything I do generates more things to do.
I finally registered the GR with the AKC. Cross that off the list, and each registration generated 9 new emails. Some are just BS welcome shit, but others have forms I have to filled out for my 30 days free pet insurance and ReUnite.
I call to make an appointment for the MRI. No can do, I have to give them a copy of doctor’s orders and they will get back to me. So, I have to take 5-6 pictures of the order until I get a clear one and send that off in an email.
The gutter cleaners sent an email that they had a problem with my gutters, the store double charged me for my groceries, the list of shit I have to deal with is getting longer faster than I can deal with the shit.
Can nothing be simple, just call and resolve something?
Misiu hit a milestone, he can jump into the truck by himself now.
My son won a gaming chair at an auction where he irks. He didn’t know he had company money that he could use to bid on items. The old chair is beat up and falling apart, so it is nice to get a new one for free.
I think the GR will be about 75 pounds each. According to the puppy charts, they are in the large dog category, weighing too much for medium dogs. By those charts they will both be over 100 pounds. However, Shar Pei are medium sized dogs and should stop growing around 9-10 months.
Using a different calculation, it comes out to be about 75 pounds.
I guess we will see, but they weigh twice what Ripple and Echo weighed at the same age. Echo’s weight stays consistent at 45 pounds, Ripple fluctuated between 47 and 50 pounds.
Seventy-five pounds are still a lot of dog to carry if you need to.
I had a mastiff and when he went down, we had to pay people to come and carry him to the vet for us.
I like the big breeds, but I am too old for that, and my house isn’t good for them either. They have trouble with stairs too as they get older. My Doberman had trouble with stairs even when he was young. He followed me up the attic stairs once and he couldn’t get back down. His legs were too long to fit or something. He kind of tripped and stumbled part of the way down, then jumped the rest of the way, and slid across the hall into the wall.
Well, I’ll get back to what y’all are up to. My son just texted he’ll be getting out early around 5am tomorrow. I need to get to bed.
So First Heave, I got sent to Secondary sort, to help. They have actual airflow up there, which is good. But the belt feeding the 300 Table broke, which was bad. Plus I had the usual mad cleanup on the 100 Slide.
Second Heave. I had a Ruble flashback, since I had to unload a 53 footer from the Da Jungle. The first half was loaded beautifully, but when I start pulling down the wall…Oh God, it’s a Hovitos Death Temple. but 2 53 footers, a short nap, and a Negroni later, I’m better.
Looks good!

Evening all, it’s a lovely 90F at 1920 with a nice breeze. I had to move our Vermilion because we forgot about the missing shade tree when I put it in the pot and it was not doing well. I’ve got it in an area with shaded morning sun and it seems much happier.
I took NF’s bag of surplus surplus stuff to Tai Chi and she was amazed at the size of the mongo carrots cause they really don’t come that big in stores. She said she would keep one for a self defense weapon and stuff another one for dinner.
I do not like to put cooked carrots in my mouth (I agree that the flavor is needed for certain foods, but they can be taken out after flavoring the food just like bay leaves). I looked stuffed carrots up and they do not look at all appetizing, so I asked hubs if he would like one and he said he’d never had one but only because carrots don’t really do that well in WV. He knew his mom would have fed them to him otherwise.
I always get energized by the classes so when I got home both beds got new sheets and blankets and such washed. I also vacuumed GG’s mattress because he sheds through blankets, sheets and mattress pad. VBC was annoyed.
Our first place had a couple of big cypress trees and every year we would find chicks on the ground. Doves are not the smartest birds in the world.
I hate Hate HATE it when that happens. We bought the product expecting that it would be supported for as long as we found it useful, NOT when they think we should buy a new one. I still miss my RazR phone, it was perfect for me. Now I’ve got a big clunky smart phone that I leave everywhere because it doesn’t fit nicely in my pocket anymore.
I did not. I assume it was because I wasn’t a member before the migration?
I missed you.
And yes, I learned that last year when I got my boob squishing done. Thank your for the reminder about that, I need to schedule a booster before I go to Idaho in a couple of weeks.
Here’s hoping you have a comfy mattress by now.
Please, oh please give us pictures. PLEASE!
That’s what we did last time as well, and we only moved 10 miles down the road. We still yelled at each other after the move “why can I NEVER find a goddamned fork!” but were able to blame the lack of whatever on the movers instead of each other. I have one move left in me and that one will only happen if I have to do it over health reasons.
It is, it really is. It’s so easy to find a couple of dishes that work well and then just keep rotating them until your rut is so deep that you don’t even remember that there is other food out there.
That is one of the big reasons I like getting the surplus produce boxes so much. They force us to get out of the rut and cook other things with the food we have been given. Well, except for stuffing carrots. That just isn’t going to happen in this life.
That looks great, it sets your eyes off beautifully.
I couldn’t do it now. This is why we don’t have a dog. We like most dogs, but our tastes usually run to the larger breeds…hence owning a St. Bernard in the past and a Maine Coon now. When Hubs retired, I really wanted to get a dog to help with Hubs’ socialization skillz, but I knew that any dog hubs would want would be too big for us to pick up.
I sure do hope the GR don’t get as big as you think they will.
Does the new contract say that your new fans only have to be installed in new buildings?
Everyone has to learn somewhere and you are doing a wonderful job of not only feeding your kids, showing them that cooking is a thing that everyone should know.
So, anyhow I came to brag about the bats enjoying the 4 o’clocks. They show up well after we are in bed, but while GG is still up enjoying the night air in the catio. He gets so excited about seeing them fluttering around in the flower bed right THERE and comes yelling in and jumps over the baby gate without even thinking so he can bounce on us and tell us about the night fuds. Then he remembers about his nemesis and leaps from bed and over the gate to run back out and talk to the bats.
I like bats. I plant night blooming plants to attract the bats. If not for GG, I would have had no idea that the posies were working.
Holy crap, with those pictures we might as well re-name the thread “Food Porn in the MMP.”
I used to work with someone whose dog loved to bury ice cubes. She told me he never figured out why he couldn’t find them again.
Not to mention the shopping and cleanup. Marriages have literally fallen apart because one spouse fails to recognize how much work it is just to keep people fed and the place reasonably clean. It really is a full-time job.
Italian dressing makes a great, stoopit simple marinade! Best is for chicken, but I could see it working for pork loin or chops, too.
Tryin’ to one-up FCM with all that unslothfullness?
My ex referred to this as “stubbing your toe” on the obstacles being thrown at you.
Wow. Some ex-floozy YOU are.
Doves make crappy nests. Some bird species weave these amazing, intricate structures; doves will put four sticks in the general vicinity of each other & call it good.
Oh, yeah! @Sunny_Daze are you finally sleeping comfortably?
Concur; the color works with your eyes in a stunning way.
That’s so cool! I saw bats over my current home once a few months ago, and actually wrote myself a note so I’d believe my own memory in the morning.
I wonder if they’re still out there …
So the compressor in our walk-in fridge died Sunday, and the replacement was supposed to arrive yesterday but didn’t.
Ditto for one of our crew (didn’t arrive yesterday) who is probably no longer a crew member, leaving us short handed today.
And now we have the entire contents of the walk-in stuffed into the relatively small reach-in fridge, and in random other nooks and crannies.
So work was … well, the usual restaurant chaos.
A customer at my drive-thru window placed an order and mildly complained that they couldn’t get through on the phone. As the phone rang behind me.
I told her the phone has been ringing off the hook and she said, “Oh, are you busy today?”
I didn’t answer her with words, just gave her A Look, and she laughed.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It should be just the morning shift, in which case I can sleep in, Cat willing.
Well, they are starting to put in new fans. Hazmat got them first which is good. but I’m last on the list I think. Which sucks, because the fan in the dumping station, is small, filled with years of dirt, blows 25 feet on a good day, and is 24.9 feet away. it’s got the CFM of a fetal mouse with asthma. And I’m sure our $19million CEO will work without A/C in solidarity till all the package cars have sufficient cooling.

OK! Got it.
You have a point!
That was kind of my mom’s approach. Her mother was, by all accounts, at best an indifferent cook, although far worse adjectives have been applied.
Fortuantely, my kids are able to cook some already. SenGirl loves various Asian noodles and SenBoy can make basic meals.
I never cooked until I left home to go on a Mormon mission, and then us missionaries would only make curry from a packed roux
Basically, cut carrots, potatoes, onions and meat, then fry, boil and add the packed roux. We would also make a white stew the same method, yakisoba from a package, and a couple of other things. Week in and week out.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and mostly N.O.S. with a predicted high of 87 and partly to mostly N.O.S. for the day with no rain predicted. Since I had such a burst of productivity late yestiddy afternoon/early evenin’, today shall be a day of high sloth and general overall uselessness. I foresee quality cee-mint pond time. Sup shall be chili/cheese/onion/slaw dawgs and oven fries. Fartfest to follow.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Firday Y’all!
Oh yeah, like we need an excuse for a party…
Holy crap! In my world, 25# is a lot of dog to carry, especially when she doesn’t want to be carried.
That’s kinda my mindset. I like where I am and I see no reason to move, despite MIL’s constant worry that I’ll no longer be able to go up and down steps and my washer is in the basement… Honestly, she brings that up constantly! I point out that my mother is 89 and she still manages the stairs easily, but, no, I should move my washer and dryer upstairs immediately!! Yeah, I’ll get right on that.
Or that gives us next week’s title!
Just out of curiosity, does your store take on-line orders? I love being able to do that - I can change my mind a gazillion times before submitting my order, and I’m not annoying some poor person on the phone.
Lindt! OMG, I love that stuff! There used to be a Lindt store in Annapolis and we’d stop there often, but then they were gone. Dammit. And Lindt no longer makes my favorite truffle. And I really shouldn’t eat all that much, but oh, how I love it!!
No kid today, and rain predicted for much of the day. We might go to the boat, or not. FCD is still abed and we didn’t discuss any plans last night, so I guess we’ll figger it out as we go along.
We have a mouse, dammit. I noticed some droppings in the pantry yesterday. So I vacuumed them all up and threw away all the paper bags that had accumulated on the floor of the pantry. I don’t know where the damned rodent hides, but I know Ziva ain’t no mouser. Dammit. Daughter had seen a mouse in the basement a couple of months back - I hope it’s that one and not a whole passel of 'em. Time to buy a couple of traps. Dammit.
Always something.
Happy Firday!
Mornin’ everyone.
It’s currently 54F and mostly clear outside. The expected high is 82F with sunny skies until the afternoon, then becoming partly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms developing late afternoon/early evening.
Sunny, your hair looks great!
My workday was even busier than anticipated, but I got through it. I was half hoping to take the afternoon off because the weather was so lovely, so I could mow my lawn and dig in the dirt, but I had several things crop up, and I needed to deal with them. As it was, I ended up working late again.
I was thinking of taking off early today because I have credit hours and an hour of admin leave to burn, but I’m not sure I’ll get to do so. I have a rep from a company that sells smart boards (interactive whiteboards) calling me today at 10:00 am. I am not sure I’ll go with this company, but I’ll listen to him and get some information.
The good news is that today is my “short” day; only eight hours! I think I’ll work closer to nine or ten hours, though.
I hope you got your new mattress, Sunny!
Time for some more coffee! I also need to load the dishwasher and run it.
G’Mornin’, mumpers. Wish I were still sleeping but I woke from a dream that ended with my and CtE drowning in my van after flying off the edge of a bridge. It’s taking a bit to get my heartbeat and breathing back to normal, but it’s getting there. Focusing on my friends here helps get me out of the headspace that the dream is currently occupying.
I remembered after waking that I need to bring the van in to make sure the tranny isn’t actually leaking. So soon I’ll be putting on required clothing, breaking my fast and hitting the road. Though I guess I have time since they don’t open until 8 (it’s not even 7 as I type). I suspect CtE will want to go with me so they can walk and get breakfast. We’ll see. There’s still house cleaning on the agenda so I’m not sure how long I want to be out of the house. Too much catch up.
At the end of July, I’ll be flying up to see a new partner. I was able to fly round trip for right around $100. Why can’t more flights be that inexpensive? Is love for Hubby and I to be able to take weekend getaways but process are just too high more often than not.
Speaking of Hubby, he’s getting ready for his week long trip to help his folks unbury the house to make things easier for movement around the house. It’s going to be a long week, for both of us I expect.
Thank you, everyone, for the compliments on my hair. I think it does flatter me and, like JtC</b[ said, brings out my eyes.
Pilot, thanks for the explanation. It makes perfect sense. I wasn’t sure vehicle or lightning. They were putting in a new pole as I came back home.
sensei, Dad’s had a pacemaker since the mid-80’s. I’m glad that it’s doing what is supposed to be doing and it was good. And I’m glad your mom is doing well, despite age and her heart.
swampy, impressive feats of non-slothage! You definitely deserve extra slothage today.
sari, I’m sorry you’ve been having so much frustration. {{{sari}}}
At least she didn’t give you shit for A Look.
Your short day masks me blanch. As l long as you take care of you.
And that, I think of better get cloth on body and out the door. Have a great day/night/whatever.
FCM once on a camping trip, I got a mouse in the car!! It must have died and thought it was in heaven with all that food and nesting material. Fortunately, it picked the paper towels to start on rather than the upholstery. The next morning, I drove into town, got a mousetrap and some peanut butter and no more mouse.
Dinner tonight. Sparerib soup with chicken stock I made yesterday; fried potatoes with cheese with and herb base (I used some of the quartered potatoes from yesterday’s mashed potatoes and took them out before they became too soft. Then two salads: an avocado, wasabi and mayo salad and a green salad.
It all turned out OK and the kids liked it.
We are off for two days of sailing. SenGirl has a prelim race next week and a shot at representing Hokkaido in the nationals.
SenWife is now on the plane to Taiwan for a couple of days before coming back on Wednesday.
Mornin’, kids! Not much to report today. My already low level of engagement with work has only further declined now that there’s two potential job offers/relocations on the horizon. The couple substantial projects I’ve undertaken here are nearing completion, so… Not a lot of oomph to start something new, knowing it will immediately get dropped if I leave. Anyway!
Looks like today we might finally get those promised thunderstorms. So far they had not materialized, which has made me grumpy. I want my storms, dammit!
Love to all, and happy weekend!
Did you mix wasabi with mayo, and use it as a dressing for the avocados? Was it real wasabi? Leaves?
Grated wasabi and mayo mixed into mashed avocado. The kids don’t like wasabi yet, so I add it to the grownup’s portion.
Morning all, stayed abed until nearly 8am so must have been tired last night. again not much on the agenda, will try to get swimming and sauna in this afternoon and maybe some mild housekeeping. Temperatures, like the title of this week’s MMP, are heading upwards after a couple cool days, supposed to get to 85F today and 91F tomorrow with little or no rain.
Keeping up with you folks is a full-time job.
Real Fish, like the hair and yeah! on the new (and old) friends. And glad Dad is doing good.
I don’t cook very much at all, so I just read and salivate on the cooking comments.
Sari, those are pretty big for Shar-Pei’s, aren;t they? And given those dogs don’t often appear to be fat, yeah, getting them somewhere they don’t want to go will be a struggle.
The newest film is due out on the 30th and I’ll probably go see it. At least the hero is older than I am.
Me too, I think, maybe two (one to an apartment when I’m about 80 and can’t manage a house, then maybe to a retirement community if I’m still hanging on).
swampy, enjoy Slothday!
OK, that’s about all I have energy for. Have a good Firday all.
Sounds like guacamole. My wife makes ‘avocado dip’ (she differentiates it from guacamole that has salsa fresca mixed in) with mayonnaise and garlic powder mashed into the avocados. How do you eat yours?
The only thing that Nelson attempts to bury are baby carrot halves. Back when I gave him a whole one while packing my lunch, I would find carrot halves in varying states of decay in my bedding when I stripped it. Now, I bite one in half, so we both eat a piece.
WTG Echo! It looks like she’s beginning to get the hang of being a big sister sari. Yay on Misiu’s jumping progress. It sounds like you could use a secretary.
I’m envious of the mongo carrots JtC. Of late, the carrots available around here have been skinny little things. When I was a kid, when Mom made pot roast, she’d put half the roast in one cast iron dutch oven, half in the other to put as many carrots (along with token potatoes and onions) around it as possible because one of my sisters and I would fill up on them. Much as I like pot roast, the carrots are what I’m really after. Does GG sleep with you or do the cats have their own bed complete with bedding?
sensai, while I’ve always been a fair to good cook, it took me a few years to get the hang of meal planning. Currently, I sit down (coming up as soon as this post is done), plan the menu, then make the grocery list. I tend to plan things that use more perishable ingredients for the first two days after shopping and other stuff later in the week. It keeps the guesswork at bay, the trips to market at minimum and food waste nearly eliminated.
Mooooooom, does Higgs have any mousing instincts?
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, bed stripped, towels / sheets in the dryer, clothes in the wash and fixing to do KP. After that, the usual Firday cleaning will commence and conclude with a trip to the grocery store. Such excitement!
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
I was in Secondary Sort again, then the 100 table. Naptime!
At least the hero is older than I am.
