Not yet, but that’s a-comin’ soon. Currently, people can order at the drive-thru, they can walk into the lobby and order directly, or - if the gods are smiling upon them - they can call.
That’s plenty!
Nah, she took it in the spirit in which it was intended, which was to essentially communicate, “Woman, you have NO IDEA.”
I am intrigued. I like spareribs; I like soup. Can you share any details?
May I ask for some pictures, pretty please with a cherry on top? My mom is a master quilter and I am but a poor amateur. I like to look though! Have fun
Yes indeed. I often get asked “what’s for dinner” right after I wake up. (Leftovers tonight is the answer.)
I think this is pretty neat. Making friends is always a good pursuit. Also, I love your hair!
Well, if you insist.
Swampy congrats on being unslothful and may your return to slothfulness being equally as rewarding.
My dad used to stand at the foot of the stairs and throw little treats up there, so our lab would run up and down several times. Both dad and dog seemed to think it was a fun game.
I think I saw that they were making this (or something similar) again.
It’s come close, and I’ll leave it at that.
The mattress came and so far so good. I suspect I’ll end up putting my foam topper onto it. It was nice not to wake up with body pains all night long.
This sounds really good. Have you found any good source for real wasabi? The stores here usually carry some kind of horseradish paste instead of the good stuff.
Sold! Watching an older hero will either be reassuring or give me quite the inferiority complex.
The mattress came! The junk guy came and took the stuff I really needed to go! Unfortunately, he is allergic to cats, so I won’t be calling him to deal with the rest of the giveaways. All in all, yesterday was successful.
Today’s little fuss had to do with an insurance payment that I’ve been trying to get into our accounts since November. It’s been a whole mess, and the latest is that the check was not endorsed the way the bank wanted it, so they rerversed almost ~$10,000 out of my accounts but left the funds freeze from the check deposit stay on. That put me immediately negative, even thought I had several thousand sitting there. I got them to reverse the hold, so I have my money. They’re mailing the check to me and then I’m supposed to deposit it back into a different account. It will be 8 months or so before we finally get reimbursed for the home repairs. Booooo
Today I might do see the latest Spiderverse movie. My daughter is quivering with delight. She’s a graphic artist and wants to dissect the film. I sense there will be technical genius that I can’t appreciate, but it should be fun.
For me, it’s the other way: ‘What do you want for dinner?’ Usually the reply is, ‘I don’t know. I just got up!’ or ‘I don’t know. I’m full from breakfast!’ I have to plan ahead. What sounds good? How long does it take to make? Do we have everything we need? Does anything need to be thawed? Want pulled pork? You should have mentioned it yesterday!
Is that Indiana Jones and the Wheelchair of Destiny? Or Indiana Jones and the Search for Depends? Or Indiana Jones and Get Off My Lawn?
I crack me up!
Oh, were you seroous???
Back from some erranding and lunch. It’s raining again and I have zero motivation. When FCD gets back from his mom’s, we’re going to sort thru and organize a bunch of paperwork related to his folks. I think that’s as productive as I’ll be today. I do have the mouse traps - they’ll be placed this evening.
Meanwhile, I think I’ll read for a while.
Oh, and a little good news - MIL joined in a PT session at her apartment and seemed to enjoy it, so yay for venturing downstairs!!
I have eaten (a frozen pasta thing - don’t judge!) and deposited that damn check with the back/stolen wages. I just had to get over that feeling of being viscerally mad before I felt like I could do so.
Realizing I could order a buncha stuff off Amazon and have it brought to my door, vs. having to put on pants & schlep it myself, may have gone a long way towards soothing my anger.
Off to feed the masses, yet again. We’ll see if the replacement compressor arrived (and hopefully installed) today, otherwise it’s gonna be a wild Friday night.
We NEED that walk-in, dammit!
I like this idea. Jane has her cane and Sari needs a magic wand that shoots lightning bolts!
Was talking to a friend who works for the municipality and she told me that they are actually getting 15 paid holidays this year. Both new holidays are Muslim holydays. They had the one at end of Ramadan and apparently next week they have another. Not sure what it is.
Well, now I’ve looked it up since MetalMouse was asking. Wiki gave me the answer that Eid al-Fitr was April 21, 2023 and Eid al-Adha is June 28, 2023.
Another thing that Wiki said is "Additionally, Friday is considered the holiest day of the week, and in Islamic tradition, is considered a celebration in itself. Yikes, hope the new Administration doesn’t implement this or we may not get any City services on Fridays.
I should have mowed yesterday when Hubs asked me to; it’s raining today. Oh well.
Been very busy with the normal things and in addition, walking Bella, feeding her, making her second breakfast, making daughter lunch and Hubs, daughter and I dinner each day. On Wednesday we had a fire, daughter made it, and it was awesome, partly because of the construction of it, partly because the wood is from last year so had a year to cure. Then s’mores. I need to do some laundry now and go Krogering. Daughter and Bella are leaving tomorrow afternoon so hopefully I can catch up over the weekend. I’m only up to post 99/226.
Last night at 11:00 I reading in bed when suddenly I smelled bacon. I don’t mean a faint, bacony smell, I mean immediate bacon, like someone was waving a plate of crisp, maple-smoked strips under my nose. I ruled out upstairs and downstairs neighbors. I sniffed like a bloodhound but couldn’t figure out from whence it came. Poltergeists?
I had a long talk with my nephew and am about to leave for a walk limp.T -6 days.
I used to be much better about this. I even arranged my lists according to departments and aisles in the store. Now that I live alone, I’m much less organized. Retirement has turned me into a slug. If someone spills salt on me, I’m a goner.
Wow! That’d be such an honor! I’ll be cheering for her from here.
Taters, when do you get vacation time? Your schedule sounds like a one-way trip to burnout.
I’ve moved 17 times, not counting dorm rooms. Every single time, I’ve said, “Bury me in the backyard. I’m never moving again.” Maybe I’m jinxing myself.
shoe, the dog and ice cube story made me laugh. I’m going to share it with my family. The now-ex and I once had a dog who’d “bury” his toys and treats on the hardwood living room floor. He’d use his nose to shovel imaginary dirt over them and trot off, convinced his treasures were safe from imaginary dogs.
Howdy Y’all! We have indeed been slothful today with small bouts of productivity just to add some variety. Quality cee-mint pond time was had along with nappage. I did do some work on potential interview questions for a new Priest and face timed with my cohort as well. Sup got made and et and the kitchen got cleanded up. Now we chill.
Good luck, SenGirl! You’ll kick the sails off all the competition!
Niner, it’s always tough when you know there’s a good chance that you’ve got a foot out the door to be engaged. Good luck with both job possibilities! And I’m with you on storms. Though we’ve had some here over the last few days and I’ve loved sitting on the porch reading while the rain pours down.
I love this! Pets do know how to get us to do what they want us to, don’t they?
shoe, I’ve had both kinds back when I worked in the places with drive-thrus. Those who could take whatever I said or did in the spirit in which it was meant and those that bitched me out. Of course, when someone bitched, I immediately started crying. I had a very strong cry reflex and, honestly, it hasn’t gotten better as I’ve gotten older. I just don’t look as pathetic and helpless as I did at 18 when I cry!
Sunny, first here’s the info I got from Hubby re: MTG card selling and RPing. For selling, he said that your best route is to check either Card Kingdom or TCGPlayer to see what the cost of the cards are, then bring them to a local game store to sell them. The reason he goes to local stores is not just supporting local but because if you bring it up there, you don’t have to worry about damage or it getting lost in the mail. He said you’d probably get the best price on eBay but then there’s eBay buyers that will claim it didn’t get there.
As for RPGs, for play by post RP.net is best. But doing live RPing on Discord usually scratches that instantaneous itch. He didn’t know any personally, but he did find this link: Playing D&D Online: 6 Discords Servers for Finding Online D&D Groups He said that would be a good place to start looking for an RP home.
I’ve been trying to open up my friends circle a bit more. I’ve joined several Polyamory-related groups on Facebook and I’ve already met a couple of people that I’m having fun talking to. And I have several others that want to chat but I haven’t had time to yet. New friends are ALWAYS awesome!
And yay on the mattress and getting the junk guy to get the stuff that he could! And boo on the whole insurance payment debacle. I’ll be interested in hearing what your daughter thinks of the movie from a graphic artist’s point of view. I haven’t had a chance to see it myself yet, but I’m hoping either this weekend or next week. I’m already covering my eyes on a lot of threads and posts about it so I don’t get spoilered!
shoe, I’m glad that you were able to get the check in and that you were able to get over the mad by shopping therapy is a good thing. I hope you have an easy - even if it is busy - night!
CatGlove, I know what you mean about trying to get caught up on the posts. I’m reading far more than responding because everyone is talkative. And I can’t be blamed for it this time. Maybe. A little.
nellie, those poltergeists need to bring some bacon to all of us. Not just the scent, but actual bacon. Now I’m hungry for bacon.
I’ve said the same thing about moving. I’ve moved (since leaving high school and not counting dorm rooms) 10 times. And each time we swear it’s NEVER happening again. I think Life just wants to screw with us requiring moves. We’ve probably got at least one more move if not two before retirement even hits.
swampy, enjoy your chillage!
The van got it’s clean bill of health. Hopefully, I won’t need to see them again, but it’s nice to know they’re there is something does go wrong. And if Custom can’t do work for whatever reason, it’s nice having a back up place to fix the vehicles.
Today was another day of chatting more than I should have, but I was able to also get some cleaning done inbetween. I still have a bunch to go but there’s a reason this particular friend is my best friend - I don’t need to explain mess to her. I know she’ll just help me with some of it when she gets here and ignore the rest. Because that’s what best friends do. Along with helping you get drunk when the world sucks.
She should be here shortly, so I should stop listening to the playlist I put together for a friend and be ready to greet her when she gets here. If I don’t see y’all before Monday, have a great weekend!
If you only lived closer, I’d bring Nelson over for a visit.
Yay on MIL’s PT class.
nellie, I’m another who just had to count moves. The final score is 20, although there are two places that I have lived in twice. I likely have 2-3 more in me before needing an assisted living facility.
JtC, they’re making RAZR smart flip phones now (I have to play with them differently, since they have an internal SIM) and Samsung has a smart flip as well. They have improved on the flex cables (the part that usually went ka-phooey) since the old school flips but they still fit in your pocket.
The abode is clean, the studio has been straightened out (filled half my paper recycling tote), groceries bought and supper et.
They have the two buildings facing the street painted, sans trim. The old colors are cream building / tan trim / teal door. Building #12 has been painted teal and building #1 light brown. I’m going to guess that they’ll go with cream trim and likely keep the teal doors.
Took a long nap with Spot. Now it’s gin&tonic and thunderstorm time.
I’ve done 8 personally, had helpt friends move another 9-10 times. But since me and my friends are passed the “have everyone come over and help in exchange for pizza and beer”, next move will either be by pros, or I’ll just throw everything that doesn’t fit in Carmen into the dumpster. On the bright side, 40 years of packing U-Hauls prepared me for loading package cars at UPS.
Lord, that makes you better at logistics than our $19million CEO.
No energy to flame the Post Office right now, so I’ll post here.
Package delivered at 14:18 today, left at the front door/porch. Nope. I worked from home, and the front door (with a window) is right there. Nobody approached the house. I called the Post Office over and over. No answer. I called the 800 number. 25 to 37 minute wait for an agent. I’m in the queue for a callback. Finally got ahold of the local Post Office. They don’t know what happened.
The road along the beach is Birch Bay Drive. The address on the package, where we live, has the same number of syllables, starts with a ‘B’, and very nearly rhymes with the beach road. I took a drive up the beach. Sure enough, the Post Office carrier delivered my wife’s medicine to the wrong place. The nice guy there saw me coming up his driveway and met me outside. He’d brought a package over last week. Turns out he’d come over two other times and left packages at the door. So this makes four times recently that our packages went to the wrong house. The guy said he’s about ready to put a sign up.
In my opinion, Postal carriers need to A) Know how to read; and 2) Be able to retain information.
ETA: We got a Capital One bill yesterday for someone two streets over. I put it in his mailbox this morning. That street sounds completely unlike our street or the beach road.
Where I lived:
San Diego - birth to 2 months
Paternal grandparents in Baltimore - till age 2
Parents first house in Baltimore county - till age 19
Orlando - bootcamp
Memphis - training - barracks
Vallejo - training - barracks
San Diego - duty station - barracks, then apartment
Newport, RI - training - barracks
West Lafayette, IN - 3 different apartments while in college
Newport, RI - 2 more times for training

Memphis - training again
Athens, GA - training
Jacksonville FL - 1 shared apartment, 4 different houses
King George, VA - house
Back to FL - house
Merrylande - boat, then house. This house. I’m done moving!
To be fair, the training moves were short term so not a lot of crap moved with me. Oh, then there were the deployments to Sicily and Rota which were short term also.
When I moved in da cave I swore this would be the last abode I would ever buy and the last move I ever make. I still mean that. My next move will be either to the home or the morgue. Which ever one it is, it won’t involve me havin’ to pack up stuff.
Mrs. L.A. had some Trader Joe’s Taco Cheese, and some Trader Joe’s fresh mozzarella for dinner. I had a Costco giganto-dog with cheddar, mayo, and jalapeños on a keto bun, a bit of the taco cheese, and a hunka Trader Joe’s cheddar cheese with Scotch bonnet peppers. Normally, when I get any mass-produced spicy thing, I’m like, ‘OK, I can kinda taste the heat.’ The Scotch bonnet cheese is actually spicy. Too spicy for The Missus, and I warned her. So it’s all mine.
Evening all. Swimming got swum and sauna got heated, so got that much accomplished. I had marked dinner tonight as “TBD”, so I determined I would spend my money at Red Robin (Yum!). Then stopped at Kroger and got a bag O’Salad, A Hershey Bar (monster size), and a New York Times…eclectic, I was. Hershey’s is now history so I won’t go close to the gym scales for awhile, but damn it was good. Evening hours will be given over to internettin’ and readin’.
Just counted and I’m up to 13 moves to date, like nellie not counting college dorm comings and goings. Last move was in 2003 and not planning on any for awhile yet.
Flyboy, glad the other address guy is understanding and cooperative. Usually my wrong delivery mail gets the number right but is for a place two blocks over.
Cat Glove, yeah, when I worked in Abu Dhabi the work week was Saturday-Wednesday…made talking to work folks back home even tougher (given the 10-hour time difference),
Sunny, glad the mattress came and the junk left. And hope the bank gets its’ act together. And while I’m not a big Spiderman fan, I did see the original animation and liked it, so might try this one too.
OK, need to finish my re-read of one of my Science Fiction webcomics (Drive) and then start considering bedtime. Take care all.
