Dinner was organic greens topped with TJ’s tzatsiki, cucumber, tomato, cold tri-tip, scallion for me, aji mirin, fig infused balsamic vinegar, coarse salt and pepper.
The Wrong Place is 0.3 miles away.
I love that. Easier than making it myself – unless I have to drive to town. We have some TJ’s kebabs in the freezer.
Got home from work just at dusk/twilight, and was delighted by the sight of two bats fluttering and circling above my home.
What a treat!
The third Triplet is officially off the roster, and … his replacement starts tomorrow. My manager admitted that she doesn’t like to start people on Saturdays (me: “That’s throwin’ her into the deep end!”) but we’ll see how fast she can learn.
Saturday nights are, oddly, nearly always closed by an all-women crew (the place is called Mr. Scribs, so Saturdays are Mrs. Scribs) so let’s hope she fits in!
The compressor arrived and by the time I was leaving, the walk-in was finally down around 50, as opposed to the horrid mid-70s (and stinky) atmosphere in there the last coupla days. It’s a big space; it’ll take a while to cool all the way down.
A couple of days ago, I did that thing where you go buy a bunch of groceries, but by the time you’re finally done shopping and unpacking, you’re too tired to cook … so I have meat a-plenty. I got some lovely pork chops, and in a moment of splurge - fueled no doubt by lingering thoughts about those damn stolen tips - indulged in a few lamb chops.
Heading home tonight, I wondered which to choose.
But see, when I can’t pick between two equally attractive options, I tend to think, “Why not both?”
Therefore, tonight’s dinner shall be a Barnyard Blend, featuring both oink and baaaah.
Two pork chops went into the freezer, and the remaining oink, and remaining two tiny baaah, shall await me for another evening soon.
Probably Sunday, cuz by the time my sorry carcass drags itself home on Long Night after tomorrow’s shift, that whole “standing in front of a hot stove” thang ain’t happenin’.
Speaking of hot stoves, I ordered some semi-fancy popsicles off Da Jungle, cuz (wo)man cannot live off crappy Otter Pops alone. These are made with Real! Fruit! Juice! and I look forward to trying them.
Hm. I didn’t count childhood moves or when we moved in with my sister. If I do, that’d make it 20.
While I was born in Lakewood (L.A. County), CA, I don’t remember living in Westminster (Orange County, CA - except there’s a picture of my ‘first kiss’ when I was two or three). I know we moved to Yokosuka, JP, then the San Diego, CA. From there I moved to Lancaster, CA, then to Los Angeles, CA, and then to Birch Bay, WA. After moving to Birch Bay, I went ‘TDY’ to Torrance, CA; but my official residence was Birch Bay. I’m now in Birch Bay.
I got my next class’s patterns last night, but waited for morning and good light before starting. And yeah. I have absolutely no self control, so I am not going to have anything left to do this time next week. It’s my own fault, so I won’t whine much.
GG has finally seen the youngish raccoon at the bee bath (the bees take that one over, so the birds don’t use it) and it is SO exciting!
Crabby Old Cat sleeps with us, GG and VBC sleep on the spare bed. Unless VBC chooses to sleep with us at which time no sleep happens because GG is so lonesome he thinks he’s gonna die. We really didn’t think COC would live this long otherwise COC would be sleeping on the spare bed and the other could be with us.
I have time for one more thread tonight, ttyl
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave(after Cheese Time). It’s my firday. I need to buy Vermouth.
Gesundheit!

Is you rerefrigerator running? Well, you better go catch it. Also, I’d like a none pizza, with left beef.
I didn’t know he was the reincarnation of Hank.
That’s hilarious - they got precisely what was ordered.
Bet the kitchen laughed their collective asses off making it, though. I can picture it, pulling the dishwasher guy back from the sink, “Lookit this pizza, bro!”
Apparently, there was one of those in Annapolis about 7 years ago, but it no longer seems to exist.
All our good intentions to get assorted documentation organized yesterday - well, all for nought. Maybe today? One chore for sure will be loading the dishwasher. Beyond that, I don’t know.
I set a mouse trap last night - still unsprung.
It’s just that exciting here. Happy Saturday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 87 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. JDD and Partner are comin’ over around eleven(ish) to hang at the cee-mint pond. That’s always a fun time. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit cause we haven’t done that in a while. So, yes, a day of sloth and general overall uselessness. Shockin’, I know!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
We had a lovely time at the quilt show yesterday. For those who asked, I took a bunch of pictures of the quilts I liked and found interesting. There were about 150 quilts on display. I will get my pics uploaded this afternoon and, instead of clogging this thread with the photos, I will make an MMP Spin-off thread for them.
Looking forward to it! Glad you had a good time.
Had fun with granddaughters and grandson yesterday. Brutally hot outside, so we cut the sculpture garden tour short and scurried back inside the museum. Also scratched the rooftop mini-golf idea, but took them up to the roof so they could ooh over the view. Then went for ice cream, which I’m sure was the highlight for all concerned. For as young as the girls are, they were very patient about looking at the art. Their older brother does a great job of riding herd on them, too.
My daughter comes over today for a visit, so yay on that.
Got my prep call from the surgeon’s office. Lots of instructions to follow prior to the Big Day. Someone dropped the ball on blood work, so I had to go back yesterday for a CBC panel. Turns out I’m a bit anemic, which is truly a surprise to me. Not enough to have them cancel the surgery, but I guess I need to address it. Perhaps it explains why I tend to tire out quickly.
Have a good weekend, all.
Shared sloth can be fun swampy. Have fun with JDD and Partner.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Not much on the slate for the day except heading into the 'Boro to the outlet grocery to restock. I just got a notification that there’s a 'scrip to pick up too, so I’ll swing by there. I wish that they would get these coordinated so’s I could pick them all up at once. I took them all off auto-refill once-upon-a-time, but several of them have gone back. What a PITA.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Good morning.
It’s currently 54 degrees and mostly cloudy. High temperatures will hover around 75 degrees with variable degrees of cloudiness throughout the day, with a brief burst of sunny skies in the early afternoon.
Let’s see:
Lawton/Ft Sill OK: Birth to approximately two years.
1966-1967: Springfield, OR
1967-1970: Furth, Germany (near Nuremberg)
1970-1972: Fort Lewis, WA
1973-1990: Tacoma (childhood home, then two different apartments as a young adult)
1991-Present: Puyallup (two different homes, with the last move occurring in 2003.
I hope to move. I want a one-story house surrounded by some property. I do not like the suburbs.
My son-in-law is worried that a large lot would be too much work for my husband and me, but I plan to find a wooded lot and leave most of it in forestry status. This helps with the taxes, and I can occasionally harvest a tree and sell off the lumber. The ideal would be to have the house in the middle of the plot, but we’ll see what really happens.
We did have a few thunder rumbles yesterday evening, but no rain fell.
I’m fighting with a vendor from Amazon. My package never arrived, and I wanted a refund. Amazon said I had to deal with the vendor first, who expects me to wait an additional 21 days from when the package was due. It was clearly lost in the mail, but they insist it’s still in transit. It is not. Amazon said I have to wait 48 hours after contact with the vendor to have Amazon step in. It’s not the money; it’s around 25 dollars; it’s the principle, dammit. I ordered two slim clear Otterboxes for my cellphone on June 11th. They were supposed to arrive on June 16th. The only tracking status is “Carrier picked up the package on 12 June”. The carrier is USPS. On Thursday, 15 June, they said I wouldn’t get my package until sometime between 19-22 June. Yesterday I asked for a refund, and it’s been a vicious circle ever since.
So, I’ll contact Amazon again tomorrow and try to get money through them. Every time a vendor uses USPS, the package is late or lost. Every.single.time.
I received an escrow shortage notice yesterday, so my house payment is increasing. This morning, I paid the entire shortage, which only knocks twenty-something dollars off the new monthly payment. Such a rip-off! And, what’s really galling is the assessed value on my property actually dropped for the 2023-2024 year because the housing market is finally righting itself.
As always, out of my control, and I just get to deal with the fallout.
Okay, I need to finish caffeinating, hop in the shower and then get the lawn weed-whacked and mowed. I will probably head to the nursery to pick up a bigger pot for my Japanese maple, and a wheelie stand to put it on. I may try to bring in some additional pavers too. I don’t know if the kids will have to drop by again due to house showings, but we’ll see.
Morning all. Slept good last night and have broken fast already. Need to get the dishwasher started here in a bit, have a full load ready to go. 81F heading to 90F today and little chance of rain, so may be a good stay-inside day. Am thinking about edging the lawn, I seldom do that but I think it would be a good thing to do, so might get out there sometime. Otherwise not much planned.
Taters, good luck on the claim, did you have a USPS tracking number, I find the USPS system to be pretty good on tracking locations.
Cookie, sounds like a good time was had by all. Haven’t done mini-golf in decades, may have to try it again one of these days. As for the bloodwork, find a good beverage, since apparently anemia drink…
swampy, enjoy the company and the pool.
shoe, hope the replacement does OK, I’m sure you’ll help out. And glad the cooler is now cooling. Hope not much stock was lost.
OK, need to arrange the dishwasher and start it on it’s merry way. Take care all.

Well, that was a long night. I got a headache–migraine-type, but it was on both sides of my head. Then I had to keep running to the bathroom; I’ll spare you the details. I got very little sleep. The headache is subsiding, but my vision is still a little messed up. I’m so glad it’s morning, though, and a cool, cloudy morning at that.
I wanted to go to the pet parade later today. I can take a bus and walk to get there. We’ll see if I’m up to it.
T minus 5! Hooray!
Taters, good luck with Amazon and the sellers! My problem with the USPS is ttheir policy that says they won’t deliver to apartments. If something is too big for the parcel compartment, I have to go downtown to get it. This is why I prefer doggio’s company.
swampy, hope you have a blast with JD and partner.
JtC, if we don’t hear from you for a couple of days, we’ll know where to find you.
I made a frittata with sausage and Scotch bonnet pepper cheese. (The Spousal Unit had yoghurt.) Scotch bonnets don’t taste anything like scotch. (It was a tasty frittata.)
Mi Esposa just left for the hardware store. She’s going to replace the screen on the catio heater. She has the screen. I don’t know why she’s going to the hardware store. (Not that they’d have a screen anyway, if she hadn’t ordered one online.) I’m guessing maybe some spray paint?
I’m going to wash my kayak today, and install the new rudder extension/retraction lines. Mrs. L.A. got me some kayak hangers last year. It might be time to bolt them to the side of the house and start storing my kayak out front, next to the driveway. If it works well, I may get her a set of hangers. She has a Necky Sky, which is a sit-inside. I really wouldn’t want it filling up with water (even if it’s on its side) on the side of the house. I’m pretty sure the Sky is out of production, but I hope I can find a cockpit cover for it. But right now, today’s goal is to wash my 'yak and fix the rudder. And since I need to go to the hardware store myself, later, I should get a couple of hooks and make a tow line. My wife can get tired before we make it back to our put-in point.
Got the dishes started.
