I got an “anniversary” notice but I don’t see no damn cake
Evening everyone. Birthday festivities have wrapped up for me, and I got a ton of cool stuff. First I got a bunch of Steam gift cards totalling up to $150, so I have a bunch of Steam funds to spend now. I also got a Logitech POP Wireless Mouse to go along with the POP Keys Keyboard I got quite a while back. I also got some stickers from MilkMochaBear, courtesy of my sister. And candy. Lots and lots of candy. Bottle Caps, Peanut M&M’s, Hershey’s…the whole nine yards.
I also went to IKEA with my family. I got a cute kitty pillow and a metal sign that says “Be Kind”. After we got home, we had Chick-Fil-A for dinner and kringle for dessert.
So yeah, I’d say I had a damn good birthday this year. The big 18. No longer a kid now, so that’s pretty scary. And thank you all for the kind birthday wishes. I appreciate it.
They know you have to watch your sugars.
Hurray for a good birthday, I’m glad you had a good time and got what you wanted.
And yeah. You are an adult now. Things are much different than they were a day ago. I would suggest you ask your folks to sit down with you and give you The Talk. Not about sex, you silly, about credit cards and how to set a budget.
I once called a food stamp client a dumbass (in a very kind and loving tone of voice) because he got busted for pot the day after he turned 18. He agreed with me because he had been busted for pot a couple of times as a minor but everything got serious as soon as he turned 18.
So did I, and it’s not on the day I joined the Dope.
We have scaffolding surrounding the building and yesterday they started cleaning the roof tiles, so we’re making progress towards getting solar panels. Glad somebody else is doing the work - it’s warm out there.
Me too.
In other news… I put some basil and oregano and minced garlic and salt and Italian salad dressing into a bag with two nice skin-on, bone-in chicken thighs. I think I’ll bake chicken thighs tomorrow, with roasted cubed, skin-on potatoes with olive oil, salt, and rosemary.
Hmm. Come to think of it, mine is in July.
Can I come to dinner? I’ll bring wine.
I only drink red.
That sounds delicious!
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to First Heaving.
I always skim the subject lines in my spam folder, just to be sure something wasn’t filtered out incorrectly. It seems along with the folks who want to service my erection muscle, there’s someone out there concerned that I’m “overweighted”… And lately there have been a lot of emails urging me to check some summary of my mortgage or something. It’s interesting how those things come in waves, and I’m glad my spam filter is as good as it is.
Rain continued on and off thru the night and there’s a fairly high chance of showers at least thru Saturday. I fear my lawn will be hip-high before I can mow again! Along with the rain comes a coastal flood warning, but being far enough from the coast and high enough above sea level, that hardly concerns me personally. Around here, mostly it means certain stretches of roads might be underwater for a time - no roads that I need to take, tho.
I’ve got the dishwasher sloshing along. All of the laundry was finished and stowed yesterday, leaving me with no chores I can do with the kid here. He wants to help when I vacuum, and you can imagine how much help that is. Maybe I’ll pull out the blocks downstairs and start him on a career as a civil engineer!
Mostly, tho, I anticipate a quiet, uneventful day.
Happy Thursday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 84 with yet more rain predicted for this afternoon/early evenin’. TWPTB say that tomorrow will be a non-rainy day, so maybe mowage can happen as da yahd is in bad need. This mornin’ we shall go get shorn, then go over to the church house so I can take care of candle duty and other stuff. Then we shall be bears who brunch at Eggs Up. That will take care of the main need to feed for the day. After all that, nappage, high sloth and general overall uselessness will have been well earned…
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Thursday Y’all!

Mine too. I signed up on July 26th 1999
I got one of those anniversary things also - based on posts here, I’m guessing maybe it was a software burp. My anniversary is 1 Aug - it’ll be 23 years this year! Yoiks!!
Good morning!
It’s currently 50 degrees and clear outside. The sun is just starting to peek over the horizon. The expected high will be around 80F with clear skies.
I also received an anniversary notice, but the date was wrong. I joined in April in the early 2000s. I somehow let my Charter membership lapse, but oh well.
I’m glad you had a good birthday, CorpusNeptune.
As usual, I’ve got a lot on my plate for work and will spend today and tomorrow trying to get through it. My work cell phone was unborked yesterday, but I did, in fact, lose all my contacts. I didn’t save them to the SIM and they weren’t on the cloud. So annoying, but I’ll build them back up. I am now enrolled in InTune, whatever the hell that is, and my phone will continue to work after 30 June.
Speaking of phones, I read yesterday that updates would no longer be pushed out for my personal cell phone, so now I will have to start hunting for a new one. It’s a shame because I really like my phone. I got the OnePlus 7 Pro four years ago and have never had a single problem with it. It takes nice pictures too. It’s not really money I was planning on spending, but I’m not going to rush.
Okay, onward with the day. I need to finish loading the dishwasher. All y’all take care!
we are moved the house still has a bunch to up pack and no ones dead yet but its still early …
Dinner tonight
The mashed potatoes came out much better this time. (Cook newbie has lots to learn, including carefullllly adding milk.) The cabagge is done with a flavored brine solution. It only takes about 20 minutes to make it edible.
I let the chicken stock simmer for several hours today so we can have soup tomorrow.
I’m off to bed, let you all take over for the day.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 22c/72f with a predicted high of 24c.75f and partly cloudy. Weather app tells me that “This is the perfect day for a renaissance faire. Don’t forget to try the fucking turkey leg!” I’ll bear that in mind then.
Sunny love the hair! The colour is gorgeous, I has an envy.
Shady congrats on a relatively successful move, let’s hope it doesn’t descend into chaos
I got an anniversary notice too, I get one every June provided I post at least once during the year. Yeah, no problem with that, right?
Two exam boards are out of the way and I’ve done both sets of minutes. Today I did graduation reports for the last few students who didn’t have marks available for the boards so they will go through our mop-up board on Friday. The rest are first and second years who all have marks missing, we’ll deal with those next week, but it’s good to finally have the graduaters dealt with. I need a break now!
I strongly, strongly recommend trying mashed potatoes with sour cream instead of milk! It’s thicker so it’s easier to control the consistency, and it adds a lovely rich tang! My preferred method is to cube up two-to-four pounds of red potatoes (skin on) and boil them in water with lots of salt and garlic. Then drain, add butter (about half-to-one cup,) sour cream (about one-to-two cups, more as needed,) and garlic salt, and mash by hand. Magnificent results every time! This has been Unsolicited Potato Advice Corner with Nine. Tune in next time to hear Nine say: “Huck 'em at your enemies!”
Also, just wanna say that Sunny’s hair looks incredible!
Morning all. Still a bit rainy outside and only 66F heading for 77F according to the Weather Wizards. Another quiet day planned.
Looked out my front door window and looks like one of the newborn chicks on the alcove either fell or got knocked out of the nest, so I’ll have to do burial duties here in a bit. Hopefully the other chicks will survive, unlike last year. Such is the circle of life.
Fast has been broken and internettin’ pretty well caught up, so some sloth before gym visit.
Shoe, hope nothing exploded in the neighborhood (except maybe from the tacos and bubble tea mix…).
red, sounds like that will be a busy desk, but at least you get to stay put.
God Bod, I think I wished you an early Happy Birthday, just in case here’s one for a belated Happy Birthday, so I have you bracketed in…). And candy for an 18th Birthday…sounds wonderful.
Like most other Mumpers, got an anniversary notice yesterday, didn’t think much about it and I agree with others that it was probably a glitch in the system.
Flyboy, enjoy dinner; I wonder if there are recipes for moles…
That reminds me of driving along a coastal road in Oregon a couple years ago, they had signs posted saying “Entering Tsunami Zone”. Made you think.
Enjoy Toby’s help with the Hoovering.
Hang in there, shady. Hope everyone lives through it…
Sensei, lovely looking meal there.
boo fae, glad that the end is in sight.
OK, need to finish catching up on the Straight Dope and maybe do something constructive. All y’all have a good Thorsday.
