(Old) It's Moanday So That Means We Need A New MMP

I don’t know if you have anything like Fleet Feet where you are, but if you do, they’ll measure (and scan) your feet, watch you walk to get an idea of your gait and ask you questions about what you do in sneakers and make a recommendation, along with the size for whatever brand it is. I bought my first pair of Brooks from them and ordered online after that.

While Nelson loves to ride in the car, if we turn on the street where his old vet was, he begins to howl. I wonder how long it will take for him to recognize the route to his new vet’s office.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP and breakfast / lunch prep for the week. Not a whole lot shaking here at CasaRoja today, so , since it’s still raining on and off, I’ll likely mess around in the studio.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Good morning all. Made the early Sunday NY Times run successfully and also picked up about 1700 calories worth of potato chips for the Stupor Bowl (yeah, weird, I know, but as I noted before, Tradition!!). Will eat slightly healthier in a little bit and also try to get to the gym to knock off some of those excess calories, but all in all just another day of sloth. It’s 53F and cloudy, with rain expected this afternoon/evening and extending to Monday. Oh joy.

JtC, your…adventurous…early years always entertain, and I hope they keep entertaining you for years to come. As for Hubby and computer, well,…I got nothing. Just a cross one must bear (not our swampy), I guess. And had to goggle vape cart, never occured to me that meant cartridge, was trying to envision why a vape pen/item would need a cart to get around…and hey, the kid was at least polite, some would have ignored you or say something nasty.

Talkie, enjoy your trip to Uranus. Pack that fudge away! (And for those that missed the link Dicey posted above, this is a real place).

IL, congrats on a long-lived (and loved) marriage.

Wheelie(think I am going to go to carnut for you, I like that better), so sorry the big family get-together is sort of falling by the wayside, but NCBro’s wife has to take precedence. Enjoy the concert and anything else you can do family-wise.

nellie, step-step-step-THUMP–sounds like a dog with a wooden leg?? :upside_down_face:  Hope they quiet down after awhile.

shoe, hope you make it through Super Bowl Sunday OK, likely be a bit busy. And don’t worry about the blanket, it will suddenly show up in a place you will swear you looked 4-5 times for it…least that is my experience… And I am not a pizza eater but I checked the menu and I’ll take a ham-n-cheese and a large french fry order, please…

FCM, hope FCD listens to you and takes a little time to recover and leave the beds alone, but I’m betting he won’t…be a man myself, I know how our brains operate (often not very well). I play Spider Solitaire here on my home computer, maybe 15-20 games daily, but that is about it for gaming. And having a 4-year old on a 2-week cruise–Madness!

swampy, happy Vergering.

Pilot, glad the chair got replaced. Have a good trip. Are you riding Brightline?

red, dogs is smart, at least geographically. Happy studioing.

I think I’m pretty much caught up. Need to do some You-Tubing (a couple of folks only post on Sunday Mornings) and break my fast, then onward into the day. Take care all.

Yes.

Want to try that someday. Have read some reviews that are pretty positive about it.

Mornin’, everyone.

It’s 42 degrees F, and raining at the moment. It’ll rain throughout the morning and taper off to showers in the afternoon. The expected high temp is 54 degrees F.

Man, this has been one busy weekend! Cleaning, running errands, hosting our friends, preparing a nice dinner, and trying to keep the pups under control have worn me out.

Yesterday morning, I was up early and at the grocery store before the Superbowl crowds hit. I purchased my dinner ingredients, then dashed off to Target because I needed a five quart dutch oven. I got a six quart one for a good price, and then I ran over to Home Goods to find a storage solution for the backyard shoes and the dogs’ leashes and harnesses. I was successful in that endeavor too.

Anyway, I went back home for just a final polish on the cleaning and then waited for our guests to arrive. We had a great time together and found out they’ll be moving across the state in the spring or summer. It makes me sad, but I get it.

I made Coq a Vin, which was a huge hit and very delicious. I made it years ago and decided I wanted to make it again. The pot was emptied. I served it with potatoes and a salad, so there was something cool and green to cut down on the richness.

I’m on the hunt for HP Reverb G2 Version 2 game controllers. One was broken last night by one of our friends. It wasn’t on purpose; he went to “throw” the ball while bowling and smacked the controller right into the edge of the PC. It was a hard hit. I had just gotten done asking if my husband if the the perimeter line was set up so J could see it and not run into stuff, and my husband said he had turned it off because he finds it distracting. I told him that was a bad idea, and look what happened. Now, I can’t find the controllers anywhere, and I’m not buying a whole new headset and controllers because those things are seven hundred bucks. It wasn’t J’s fault; I’m not upset with him. I’m irritated with my husband because it’ll be me trying to find the damn things.

The puppies were so happy to have new people in the house, but J and A are not dog people. So, we had to keep them penned up a lot more than we normally would. I wasn’t a fan of that, and I felt bad for the pups, so I made sure they got to spend all night with me after our guests left.

I’m not doing anything today other than caring for the pups. I need a day to relax before returning to the office tomorrow for a day filled with far too many meetings and things to do.

I just realized I need to wash out the chip and dip bowls, so I best go do that. The kitchen was otherwise cleaned last night.

Good morning, everyone.

We want to go out to lunch today, but are hampered by the fact that it’s:

  1. Super Bowl Sunday (so that eliminates any place that has a bar and TV and is sports-themed); and
  2. First day of Chinese New Year (so that eliminates Chinese [and maybe Vietnamese?] places).

So we’re going out to sushi. IIRC, the Japanese celebrate New Year on January 1, so I think we’re good. At least the Super Bowl is being held in Las Vegas. We’re in the bay area, and if the Bowl were held in Santa Clara, the 49ers fans would make a horrible mess of the freeways in all directions.

On the way to lunch we’ll stop at a Cost Plus World Market so that I can stock up on some hard-to-find imported groceries. I like a fancy French dijon mustard that they carry, as well as Lindt dark chocolate hazelnut bars. And I’ll have a look at their cookie selection too.

I’ve been trying to watch some Puppy Bowl pregame shows, but the nonstop fast editing is making me dizzy. I want to look at a puppy for longer than 1.2 seconds, dammit.

Well, off to do the dishes I dirtied up yesterday.

Me: < opens smoked salmon for breakfast >
Spot: “Fish?”
Me: “No, sir.”
Spot: “Fish.”
Me: “No”
Spot < begins wailing > “O, where is thy manager?!?!?”
Me: “I am the manager.”
Spot < end wailing > “Bother.”

Good morning, all!

I’m writing from the multipurpose room of a local Baptist church, where I’ve been since 9:35. I had my volunteer organization’s membership/information table set up by 9:50, and since then I’ve been chatting with some other groups’ representatives and putzing around online while waiting for the service to end and the event to begin (the parishoners will be coming down here). I figure there’s another hour to go. Some other folks from my org are upstairs in the worship space, but that’s not my bag so I’m happy to hang out down here. I should be back home NLT 1:30. :crossed_fingers:

I forgot to look at the forecast last night, and wound up loading the car in the rain; I’ll wait until the rain stops (3:00-4:00) to unload. I’d consider waiting until tomorrow, but it’s supposed to rain again. At least temps are in the 50s…I don’t mind wet as long as it isn’t also freezing!

That made me laugh out loud. :joy:

QFT

(I’ve been cutting my own bangs since 2020…sigh.)

There already is a carnut, I believe.

The poke roast is occupying the oven (I put it in at 0200), so no bacon today. We don’t have any biscuits, and the oven is occupied; so I made SOS instead of SOB for breakfast. And mixed-up cackleberries.

carnut is the name of a different doper. She sometimes posts in the MMP which is probably where you got the name from.

Hubs was able to talk to a person about his desktop. They are sending him a box and shipping label so he can send the tower back for repair. This is not going to be a fast process and that old laptop just won’t cut it. His gaming tower has seven large fans and I can hear them all kicking into overdrive when he is doing some intense gaming, the laptop will just overheat and shut down.

Well, dummy me. Will keep Wheelie then and try to remember things like that. Call it a “Biden Moment” (and that’s as far as that discussion goes as far as I am concerned).

Time to head over to the gym to work up an appetite for all those crunchy Lay’s chips. Take care all.

Now I’m confused. I know there’s an @carnut who’s an actual username. But I also thought there was a different doper whose mmp nickname is carnut. Who is different yet again from @Wheelz. And there’s somebody sometimes called Wheelie but I thought that was @carnut.

I’ve said it before, but IMO it’s time to retire MMP nicknames. @whoever works great and helps each of us know when we’re being addressed and who’s addressing who. I get the history, I truly do. It made sense then; it doesn’t now.

IMO YMMV.

As to me: ubered sucessfully to the station and am now ensconced on the train enjoying a snack and a bloody Mary. In 4 miles of residential driving my driver had 3 almost-collisions. None of which were his fault and the roads were nearly deserted.

I’m still mostly blond, so I blame my moments on that.

I just set hubs up an account on my comp and I’m downloading D4 atm. Next I’ll do Diablo Immortal because those two are going to take most of the day. I’ll get his other games queued up to download tonight and then it will be ready for when he blows up the laptop.

Last night I put VBC on the kitchen island which shocked her so much that we got the nose drops in without bloodshed. I think we will keep doing that, there’s no traction for her claws.

That sounds lovely, I will put it on my list, thanks!

Good luck and dang for the broken controller. Sometimes husbands and computers aren’t the best for our peace of mind.

Of course sniks can learn, they would starve to death otherwise. I can’t imagine medicating unwilling sniks is anymore fun then medicating unwilling cats.

ooooooo - cheap shot there!! :stuck_out_tongue:

No - he’s just weird about certain things. He got it in his head that the mattresses are in the way, even tho they’re not. He obsesses over the most off-beat stuff sometimes. Like the weathercloths on our boat - I lost track of how many times he brought them up on our cruise. Do I make new ones like the old ones, or do we lace them to the rails, or do we get nets instead of the Sunbrella I already bought and cut to size, or do we have someone else make them… bearing in mind that until we actually climb up on the flybridge and lay hands on the existing structure, we can’t make any decision anyway.

I’ve had 40 years - I deal with him…

It’s been raining on and off all day. FCD helped out his mom with her meds - getting them transferred back from the CVS in Indiana, but he’s really worried about her. He’ll be taking her to our GP in the morning - we’ll see what comes of that.

Supper will be poke done sous vide, steamed broccoli, and cornbread. Maybe the last of the leftover slaw, too. Gotta get back to eating healthy after 3 weeks of over-indulgence. I’m not going to talk about how much I gained and how I never used the treadmills on board. No sense dwelling on the past.

Meanwhile, I have an hour or so to read till I have to start the water for the poke…

People pre-gaming before The Big Game or something?

Nibbling various snax and tossing Monkey some of his treats, before wading into the fray. Need to be there early to hit the ground running AT 4 sharp, cuz they’ll be lined up outside already.

Prediction is to be absolutely slammed until 6:30 or so, die back, get a bump around halftime (e.g. “intermission” ) but otherwise dead, and then once the game is over, probably a steady trickle of the somewhat inebriated.

Monkey’s box is already scooped and the big bin already out at the curb, so After Work Shoe can just plunk her butt down.

I’m currently blonde, but when the blonde moments collide with the senior moments, I get into trouble.

When I got out of bed this morning, I stubbed a toe on one of the book cases in the bedroom (I don’t turn on the light until I get to the door). I harnessed up Nelson and took him out, but when I came back in, I noticed some pinkish-red spots on my contractor-beige carpet, pretty much in the path from the bedroom > bathroom > front door (I keep the yard shoes and Nelson’s gear there). I checked, and sure enough, I could see a spot on the bright pink toe of my left sock.

So, before breakfast, I had to clean up the owie (thanks blood thinners), then take a damp sponge mop to the spots on the carpet (they all came up). Fortunately, the rest of the day went more smoothly.

Sunday dinner was stuffed acorn squash and southern fried cabbage with a clementine for dessert. Yum! Now for KP.

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated and I got everything all ready for Lent after the service. Then it was back to da cave for a sammich and nappage. Sup got fixed and et and the kitchen cleanded up. Plus, the biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Go Me! Next up is Netflix and chill. I hear I could watch a Superb Owl beginnin’ at six p.m., but really, no matter how superb, can one really stare at an owl for three or so hours? I hear the commercials are sump’n else however.

Ouch on the toe, red. Have stubbed my toe more than a few times that way, but never to the point of bloodletting.

Not one of the founders (like swampy or FCM), but I see as kinda like being part of the club…one that is welcoming of all Dopers, but you have to go through the rituals…in other words, in a term I’ve used above, Tradition! (needs a fiddler on the roof for the real effect). And glad you escaped unscathed from the Miami driving experience.

JtC, good forward planning on your part.

Says (IMHO) most every wife of over 30+ years of marriage in the known universe…

shoe, hang in there today. The Pizza Armageddon will subside.

swampy, will let you know if the commercials are worth looking up on You Tube (they’ll be there tomorrow, I’m sure).

Calories have been duly sweated off, so I can eat my Big Bowl O’Chips with minimal guilt. Outside of tackleball watching not much else is planned. Need to be up early tomorrow, the repair guy is due about 8am, so need to be ready for that.
