(Old) It's still dark MMP

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

So one time at at band campthe Dolla Sto, I haned the customer her 68 cents change, and she dropped it, and some of it rolled into a crevice in the register.
Me: < immediately pulls a $1 bill out of wallet and hands it to customer > “Sorry about that ma’ma.”
Woman: < starts shaking > “No. I. I want that change
Me: < gets screwdriver and spends 15 minutes disassembling stand and retrieving missing 28 cents > "Here you go, ma’am >
Woman, “I. I. I. I will never shop here again!
I hope at some point, she pulled the stick out of her ass, and shoved a dildo in her twat, because she needed it.

BBBoo

Up early to de-clutter the school ahead of today’s open house. More later!

Happy Firday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 68 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 94 and N.O.S. for the day. Not much doin’ at da cave today. Thus sloth, general overall uselessness, quality cee-mint pool time, nappage, and day drinkin’ are on the menu. It’s an ambitious agenda, I know, but we shall perservere. Sup shall be the leftover sketties, sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.

Boo you gave me an early mornin’ giggle!

Nellie today’s the big day. I am sure the surgery will go well. Here’s wishin’ you the good pain meds and a speedy recovery.

Sensei glad you had a good, if hectic vacation.

MOOOOOOM sorry for the credit card woes again.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

Happy Fucking Friday!

Just when you think everything is settled and running smoothly

THE FUCKING CHECK BOUNCED!

Fortunately, it was my son’s check, which is the smaller one.
We still have enough to close on the house, and enough to move.

I am so damn glad I trusted my instincts and didn’t pay off my truck and a few other bills.

To say I’m LIVID! would be an understatement.

I sent the lawyer and email

THE CHECK BOUNCED!

FIX IT!

and he better not even think about trying to pass this off as a ‘mistake’.

Good mornin everyone. 'Tis 6am and I’m up, sheveled, fed, and back at irk. Scored 2 days of overtime on the back of 4 days on the road. Gonna be a tired dude by the time it’s over. Good thing I did laundry yesterday as soon as I got home.

Go to the terminal a few minutes early so spending them with y’all. Will spend tonight in Baltimore near the airport. Will wave to FCM when I go by.

Yes, especial good luck!!!s to Nellie. Let the healing commence!

I have.

What I was getting at as mentioned by other folks working small stores with limited change is that sometimes they simply can’t break a $100; they don’t have $98 or whatever in suitable smaller bills. They may have started the shift with enough, but after a couple folks proffer big bills now they’re flat out.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 17c/62f with a predicted high of 20c/70f and rain showers. Weather app says “This rain is brought to you by the fucking letters B and S, and the number of the fucking beast.” We also have a thunderstorm warning until the early hours of Saturday but it doesn’t look like we’ll get storms, just lots of rain instead.

nellie good luck with the op today, let us know when you’re back in the land of the living!

Mooom it would be really useful to find out what happened with your card too, that seems to happen to you far too frequently.

Sari sorry to hear about the rubber cheque, I hope the lawyer sorts it out quickly.

Sensei welcome halfway back home, perhaps you’ll get a bit more chill-out time in Taiwan.

Nothing exciting in my day so far, I was up early to come to campus, it’s raining, there’s only two of us in the office today as one person’s called in sick. I’m meeting a friend for lunch, and we’ve got three online exams happening this afternoon so that’s as much excitement as I want.

'im indoors is cooking tonight so once I get home, I have no responsibilities beyond the cats. Shadow is much more perky, he’s showing a lot more interest in food and we’ve been able to get his thyroid meds in so that’s a big improvement. JtC, I am not sure I would be able to get canned pumpkin over here, it’s not something I’ve seen in any of our local supermarkets but I’ll keep an eye out for it.

So far he seems to have recovered from whatever upset his delicate innards so fingers are crossed that it stays that way.

Morning all. Not up before the dawn, but still about 6:30am, so hopefully got enough sleep to go on. One more evening with soccer “Jamboree’s” and large masses of kids and then can settle down to coaching my own team. 10-11 year olds tonight and they have 132 boys signed up, so if 50% make it… :astonished: :astonished: Another clear day with highs in the mid-to-upper 80’sF, so more sweating and AC use is to be expected.

Real quick on the money discussion; I probably still use cash more than most people, but the $100 bill I get each month is for the Great Grocery shopping trip, which almost always in more than that, and the $50’s are for gas and unexpected large costs. I try never to mess up a cashier’s till and try to hit it on the nose when I can. And in drive-ins I always have my change out and if the line is long enough I have already counted out the exact change. So I do try not to be a PITA to the cashiers of North Ali-Bama.

That said, shoe’s stream of conscious rap is hilarious.

BBBoo, good advice. I’m sure the medical people mark it too, but better safe than sorry…

Sari, that’s just plain incompetence somewhere along the line. LIvid is about the most diplomatic term you could use, I’d be f****** p*****. That lawyer should be on the phone with you this morning first thing or you need to call him. Ridiculous.

nellie, you may well be under the knife by now, crossed fingers and positive waves being sent your way.

boo fae, glad to hear Shadow’s doing better.

OK, need to be about the morning internetting. Take care all.

good grief!! that is (super queen victoria voice) “just not done!”. what on earth!!? what sort of fly-by-night trump law firm is this??!

i do hope they respond quickly and obsequiously.

purplehorseshoe, it is more like an organizing whimsy. at some point i need to find something and clean/organize until that happens, or i get into a “groove”. some people watch cooking shows to get inspired. the current whimsy happened after watching an hgtv show. marie kondo is dangerously inspiring.

Prayers said for nellie, and all medical personnel, doctors, nurses, technicians, etc, involved with her surgery so they perform for the best possible outcome.

No work today. I did text the Manager to find out how he’s feeling; he was off the last 2 days due to a pulled back muscle. He replied AWFUL but he’s going in anyway so I don’t have to. Today’s Employee Appreciation Day so there’s a picnic at the local park noon-4pm along with swimming, bounce house for the kids, etc.

Hubs is going golfing today with a friend. Hope it works out.

TGIF but where the heck is the summer going; can’t believe it’s Aug 18.

Or the ones at the all night gas station who just want you to float them a gallon of gas to get home or a pack of smokes. I moonlighted in a tiny, all night gas station in BF Indiana once upon a time and, while you and doggio wouldn’t be surprised of the kind of people who show up there, a lot of folks would.

Wishing nellie a great outcome from surgery today.

I would be pissed about that check too sari. Who’d’a thunk?

Moooooom, with the most recent card compromise, I’m sure that you’ve considered that the common denominator is somewhere local to you. It may be time for an elimination game. (Note: skimmers at gas stations and WalMart stores have been in the news on and off for a few years here). Another place to avoid is the FB questions with like 1M+ replies. Those questions are designed to help scammers with the right software to figure out your passwords, although you probably already know this.

BooFae, if you can’t find canned pumpkin at your local supermarket, check out the produce department for just about any kind of winter squash. Once baked, it will have the same qualities as pumpkin, which, in this country, can be any one or more of about a dozen winter squishes. You just bake the squash and you have a tasty treat for Shadow (and you, if you put a little butter and some seasoning on it).

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels that need to be folded, a load of clothes in the dryer, fixing to do KP and about half the houseirk (I may or may not finish it tomorrow, we’ll see). The only other thing on the agenda today is Krogering. I may be convinced to take Nelson to the dog park if it isn’t too stinkin’ hot.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Sari, that absolutely sucks about the check.

I’m sorry to hear about the skimmage, FCM.

Today I’m home again. It’s my “off” day since my sister is in town. Mom’s okay-ish still. Eating continuing to diminish, along with her ability to walk steadily so she needs to have her walking stick on her right and a person on her left to make sure she doesn’t topple. She gets breathless just standing up, but keeps repeating that if only she would walk more, get more exercise, she’d feel better and “get her feet back under her.” I don’t think it’s going to work that way, but I’m keeping my trap shut. I was dreaming excitedly of being home with the kids & husband unit but it feels like a work trip - I can’t wait for the time alone but when I get it, it seems…empty.

Anyway, she’s still determined to go to the oncologist Monday. We’ll make it happen, but I don’t think she will appreciate the results. They’ve been trying to get her to use a feeding tube for over a year now and, since her weight is now plummeting, will likely insist. But I don’t know that it will help. Once a body begins to die, does flooding it with nutrients help?

Thanks all for the virtual hugs. And for listening to me scream into the void. This is pretty much the only thing my mind can chew on.

Kids start school on Monday. I’ll be so glad to have them on a more regular schedule; maybe they’ll even sleep at night.

So once again, it started slow, then the dam broke(but oddly not the SSLAWs) I finished up sorting in Purple 54, then did an Aldi run for breads and cheeses. I had my “lay on the floor with Spot, and let him maul my arm” time, and now laundry is spinning.

I’d send him a box of rabid weasels, too. And they better pay the bounce fees. :rage:

Four Seasons Total Legal Care?

Sending tons of good thoughts/vibes to nellie today!! :crossed_fingers: :hugs:

We never got any rain last night, but it’s still a beautiful day: breezy and partly sunny, and only 78°F at the moment (12:24pm) with low humidity. Why yes, my windows are open. Usually I’ll get to about mid-afternoon and then I have to turn the ac back on, but the expected high is only 82 – with an overnight low of 60 (!) – so as long as this breeze sticks around I should be able to keep the windows open for the next 24 hours.

Yesterday was my first 6pm personal training session: I knew the gym would be busier than at 5pm, but blessed bovine! It was impossible to do any kind of circuit, because the minute we walked away from a machine (or anything) someone else would grab it. My trainer had to constantly improvise, and at the end of the hour he actually apologized: he said it wasn’t a good workout – not up to his standards – and it was totally his fault because he knew the gym floor gets crazy at that time, and he should have just taken me upstairs to the private space that’s dedicated to personal training. We’ll go straight up there starting next week. He said he owes me a session; I told him that wasn’t necessary, but he insisted. Our calendars have a lot of conflicts, so he’s going to extend my next few sessions by ~15 min.

Work is quiet (so far :crossed_fingers:), but I’ve had to send several corrective emails to one of my direct reports – who should really f***ing know better, on all counts – and I’m over it. Meh. Luckily she’s logging off early today, and my other employee and my boss are both OOO, so as long as there are no fires this afternoon I should be able to start the weekend a bit early.

It’s a little sad how much I’m looking forward to cleaning out the third bedroom! I’m generally a very neat and organized person, as evidenced by every other room in my house, but between the lack of any other storage space and the presence of a large treadmill for the past 8 years that room has started hurting my head. Most people would probably think it looks fine, but it bugs me. There’s a bunch of stuff I’m way overdue to simply toss: then I can move out what’s left, clean the floor, and figure out where I want to put everything. I already know that a small rolling table will be moving out and will go next to the bed, and one or two things in the house will be getting relocated into that room (like the rolling metal shelves that are currently next to the bed). I just need to make sure that I can easily move anything I put under/in front of the window, so the workers can get to that wall when the time comes. I plan to tackle the majority of the work tomorrow, but I might start putting things in trash bags between work and becoming one with my couch.

Time for lunch! I went to the grocery store on the way home from the gym yesterday, and I’m looking forward to the turkey and cheddar sandwich (on a pretzel bun) that I picked up.

I don’t know how old you are, but I’m 51 (for another month).

OMG! :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I believe your options are to spend tonight in Baltimore or near the airport…

Ha!!

I swear, the FedEx delivery folk around here leave packages exactly where they’ll be run over if we didn’t look before getting in our cars. Yesterday, it was behind my car where the left wheels would have gotten it, today it was behind FCD’s left wheels. Lucky for me, I was expecting both deliveries. But they’re still idiots.

And Daughter interviewed a woman for the position FCD was going to fill and she would have given her a contract right then if she hadn’t had another interview scheduled for Moanday. So it looks like my sweetie has gotten a reprieve. Meanwhile, we did a lot of cleaning and tossing stuff in the trash. In an hour of so, I’ll take FCD back for the open house, then pick him up afterwards and we’ll all go out for supper at Texas Roadhouse. In the interim, I can tidy the house a bit.

No boating tomorrow, tho - back to the school to finish more electrical work. Oh well…

9 months older. Get off my lawn. :stuck_out_tongue:

Dropped Wifey off at the gastroenterologist, went to Trader Joe’s, went back to Birch Bay, scoped out a place for breakfast, and now I’m back at patient pick-up.

10:30 and I’m getting hungry.

Just got back from the 6-week meet with the surgeon. He’s happy with my progress and cleared me to drive and to resume exercise classes. I drove home from the hospital and it was a huge boost to my morale.

An interesting little item: he told me that for two years I will need to take an antibiotic any time I go to the dentist.

We had a nice long slow rain last night and I was really hoping that there would be a puddle in the low spot so I could mark it for a tree spot, but everything just soaked into the ground before it got light.

BFF and hubs are scheduled to come over for burgers and beers on Sunday and we are wondering if we should break out the hibatchi so we can cook on the porch. Hub’s grilling area is covered but doesn’t have walls and we tend to get a lot of sideways rain during big storms.

The migrating birds are starting to show up, I’ve been seeing western bluebirds at the feeder and they aren’t local birds.

Did he say why?

Congrats on your progress and getting cleared to live a more normal life!

Our windows are open too, it’s lovely. GG is so funny about it, my window looks at the back yard. His catio is in the back yard. When I open my window, its like it is a whole new yard to GG and he just glues his nose to the screen and stares out until he gets so excited by something the birds do that he falls of the nightstand.

I wondered about that after posting because pumpkin pie is an American tradition, but didn’t think it was possible for anyone to avoid the stoopid “pumpkin spice in everything” winter craze. I’d be more than happy to send you a large can if you would like me to, but you would probably like to get this resolved without the promised pumpkin languishing in customs for months.

So this is probably a better idea.

It’s good that Shadow appears to be feeling better, hopefully you won’t have to cook a pumpkin unless you have a craving.

Holy cow, how could that possibly happen? Document everything and after it is resolved report them to whoever it is who is in charge of licensing lawyers in your state. Also, send me the address and I’ll bring my favorite wacking stick.

To avoid the possibility of infection which could transmit to the surgical knee. These things take a long time to totally heal.

Best wishes for nellie. Hope the surgery goes well and the recovery is fast.

BooFae, you might also find pumpkin chunks or similar in the freezer section, such as this butternut squash from Sainsbury’s. I know our local stores don’t have squash yet as it’s not yet in season.

{{{wordy}}}

Interesting. After her knee replacement, my mother was told she’ll have to do it for the rest of her life. Congrats on the permission to drive and exercies.

sari I’d take JtC up on her offer. She can be scary.

Got the foyer closet back to rights and the workers installed the awning, just in time for the heat wave. And the cleaning crew finished, so now it’s just the two of us who are responsible for getting ourselves organized. Can’t blame the contractors, because their work is done.

My lip cyst is back again. I’m not sure what’s triggering it, so I’ll need to track my food better. And the cyst itself. Fun times.

Tomorrow morning I have a hair appointment. Good thing it’s in the morning, because the afternoon will be warm. We’re under a heat advisory until Wednesday, if not longer.
