(Old) It's still dark MMP

Greetings from the sprayground! One of Roxy’s old classmates is here but it’s not too crowded. The kids seem to be enjoying themselves.

I left my purse at home so no license and no money. Dammit. Oh well…

Add me to the list of Mumpers who didn’t sleep well last night. :frowning: I had a great workout with the new trainer (yay!) and was physically exausted when I went to bed, but it took forever to fall asleep…then I woke up a couple hours later to pee…then I woke up for good at 6:55am, even though my alarm was set for 7:30am. Meh. I logged into work 30-40 minutes earlier than usual (after taking some Tylenol for the mild “you’re tired” headache I woke up with), and once again I’m amazed at how starting my day less than an hour “early” made the morning feel sooooo much longer. Work was fairly steady until around 11:30…I’m hoping the afternoon stays relatively quiet, and that I can log off after 8 hours. :crossed_fingers:

I have tentative plans for shopping and lunch with one of my BFFs sometime this weekend (her birthday is on Tuesday), but otherwise I’m looking forward to spending most of Sat/Sun cleaning out and reorganizing the third bedroom now that the treadmill is gone. I considered starting it this week, but I can get it done in a day or two if I focus so I’d rather just do that. My property manager’s brother texted me yesterday with some possible days/times to come look at the wall damage in that room: I replied with my availability, but haven’t heard anything further yet. Part of me wants him to come over sooner rather than later, but part of me wants him to wait until next week so I can tackle the room first.

Nicely done!

I also have an Apple TV, and use it to access Apple TV+ and all of the other streaming services (I can get to some of them via my TiVo*, but not all, and I prefer the Apple TV interface[s]).

I considered downgrading my channel package to just the basics, but the cheapest option seems to be only $10/mo less than what I’m currently paying – and I’d still be stuck with the bundle, which would mean continuing to pay for a landline I’ve never used.

I just bumped my internet speed up 2 years ago, so I don’t need to change that right now. I’m hoping to be able to keep the same internet service without a bundle for no more than the current cost; that will be my big question for Verizon whenever I call them. I might give them a chance to sell me on a new bundle, but my current monthly bill would need to be reduced by almost 60% to make it comparable to cutting the cord; I can’t see them being able to match that.

*Last night I confirmed that my TiVo will support an OTA antenna…whew! Not all of them do. I don’t want to lose the channel guide and DVR capability, but I also really don’t want to shell out $300 for TiVo’s OTA model. Whenever I bought mine I chose wisely, because my model will accomodate either a cable card or an antenna. With the antenna I’ll only be able to record one show at a time, vs the four I can record simultaneously using the cable card, but luckily time conflicts are rare these days: when I watched more “regular” TV, the concurrent recording capability came in very handy.

Ahhhh, whiskey dick. I do not miss that part of the good ol’ days.

There’s a guy I’ve had on DP lists named James Harrison, He’s in his mid-eightied by now, from Australia. From when he was eighteen, to when he was eighty-one, he was a champion blood donor, giving whole blood, platelets, and plasma over 1100 times. His blood had a unique combination of factors from which doctors developed a treatment to combat Rh factor, and Harrison is credited with saving over 2 million babies.

He also hated needles, and said that in all those 63 years he never saw the needle in his arm. That’s heroism, facing some like that for the sake of others.

Afternoon all. Did my Braunschweiger run nice and early, just after school started but before the morning rush, so not a heavy load of traffic, and am now stocked up for lunch-meat through most of October. The little rental Hyundai did fine, but it does have one annoying feature, then you get close or on the middle lane markings in the road in (gently) jerks you back to the middle of your lane…I guess it’s a good safety procedure but it irritates me. Anyway, lunch is assimilating and I’ll head out to the gym for swimming and sauna here in a little bit. Cooler today, only 79F at noontime.

40 messages in 16 hours; keeping up with you folks is tough.

FCM, glad you were able to manage the flights, and save some money in the bargain. Hopefully the hotel can store your luggage until 3pm, most international places will do that and give you a claim check. You should be able to find some excursions in Buenos Aires, if you had the time folks I know have recommended seeing Montevideo, which is right across the bay, IIRC. Make sure you get delivered to the right airport, there is one downtown that is mostly ‘local’ and the International Airport (which is pretty nice) is out in the ‘burbs’ and takes awhile to get to (Argentine traffic can be a hassle).

Sari, yeah, with the bank, trust but verify. Sad that dog gets re-homed, but I guess adjusting to a new kid in the house is not just a human issue.

Cupcakes, when I was a kid, needles induced a panic attack in me. These days I can take my shots but I never, ever watch them do it.

{{{shoe}}}, may you stay happy (and if necessary, crying about it) for a long, long time. You’ll get used to it, I’m sure. And 'Yeah" for the nice people; they don’t fully make up for the Ah*s, but they do mitigate it.

Hmmm, something not entirely right about that…but enjoy the beautiful weather.

talkie, just {{{ }}}…for you and your Mom. Pilot and others offer some sound advice.

nellie, enjoy your sister’s company.

Flyboy, ugh! on the fragrance around your place. Only bad smell I get is when the grass clippings I’ve bagged get hit by a rainstorm followed by a hot day–fermenting, y’all…

Cupcakes, the blood doner from Aussie-land; he’s a better man than I, I haven;t donated in years (in my defense, coming back from the Mid-East they didn’t want my blood since there was a risk of Hepatitis from being over there, and I fell out of the habit).

OK, need to put the bathing trunks on and beat the pool water into submission. Have a good afternoon all.

We have fermenting algae in the bay. Or rotting. Whatever.

One more thing about needles, when I was a kid our pediatrician, a VERY popular local doctor, would start telling kids a funny story and we wouldn’t noctice him getting the shot ready, Right before the end he would jab us and we would hardly notice because we wanted the conclusion. Or it might be a poem.

Old Mother Hubbard
Went to the cupboard
To get her little girl a dress
And when she got there
The cupboard was bare…

…and so was the little girl I guess.

Told ya so.

You are a good man. Too many critters end up spending their lives in cages for the sin of being broken.

I totally understand. Hubs offered GG and VBC some of COC’s special treats last night and it just seemed too soon.

Does Shadow like dairy? Unsweetened yoghurt also helps cats sometimes.

Working out on a rowing machine?

I hope you only get as much water as you need.

I am so sorry for both of you. Your patient strength has always impressed me, I hope it helps you get through this horrible time.

You are a good daughter.

Is it the same old worn out paper bag, or does she get a new one when all of the crinkle goes away? Ours get new bags on a regular basis, but their boxes rarely change.

I’m glad it is cooling down for you shoe. I’m even happier that you are allowing yourself to feel happiness. I hope it continues for a very long time.

And facing it over and over again. Thanks for the info, I am thinking very good thoughts about him.

VBC slept with me last night. She was across my ankle most of the night but took the time to bring me a sock monkey and a hand towel which she left on the floor to trip me when I woke up to pee. GG slept right outside the door when he wasn’t whining at VBC.

This morning was surplus produce and we are still enjoying summer’s largess. Watermelons, red grapefruits, plums and grapes. We also got way too many snack bags of Flaming Hot Cheetos.

I texted NF to ask her what she didn’t want and she shocked me by saying she didn’t want the cheetos. Hubs was also shocked, LOL!!! I’m putting them all in a box and taking them to the library for folks to take if they want them. TC friend will probably put hers in the box as well, ain’t none of us got young bellies anymore.

They gave me a case of diet Pepsi which I would have refused but TC friend drinks anything except water. This is all stuff the stores took off their shelves because they can’t sell it…I wonder when I’m going to come home with a case of Bud Light.

Have you looked at all of the various buttons to see if it’s something you can turn off? On my car it’s called “lane assist.” I think mine just beeps vs actually moving the car, but I turned it off the day I drove the car off the lot. If the Hyundai won’t let you switch it off, that’s something that would result in me getting a new rental ASAP: I’d be really uncomfortable with the steering wheel ever doing anything on its own, no matter what the reason!

Again, I agree. You have awe and respect from afar. Hugs too.

Same worn out bag. She’ll get a new one in a few weeks when the new floor goes in.

Agreed, he’s good human.

[Lots of humans depend their lives in cages for the sun of being broken, but that’s a topic for another time]

Ha! I just said to The Missus this morning, that someone on Nextdoor is going to ask about the stench (and blame it on the refinery).

On cue:

Is it just me, for several mornings I have noticed a terrible stench in the morning air. We are 4 blocks up from the bay north end. Anyone else notice this?

Amazingly, most of the dozen comments are factually correct… but two say the smell is sewage. Never mind that there’s no outlet for sewage to the bay. Also amazingly, the Cherry Point Refinery hasn’t been blamed (yet).

My favourite comment is someone referencing the OP’s stated location:

Also known as “Stinky Corner”?

I mentioned in my previous post that it gets pretty rank up there.

Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions and got our fried chikin N.O.L.s. This was followed by nappage and then day drinkin’. Now we are in chill mode. We switch from sloth to chill after four p.m. I’m not sure how much different one is from the other, but I am convinced there’s a difference.

No, but you did inspire me to check Google, and there are videos showing how it is done, which I will do the next time I start in up (in about an hour or so).

Swimming and sauna are done, the whirlpool was broke but since I forgot my reading book, that was OK. Came home and the last two Amazon items I ordered on the gift cards Delta gave me for giving up my seat had arrived. Out of $800 they gave me, I have exactly $3.51 left, but since that is spread over 4 different cards, I think I’ll just let that expire. Worth an extra night in a hotel.

OK, soccer in about an hour, so need to get ready for that. Take care all.

As it happens, Montevideo is our last port of call before Buenos Aires.

Princess contracts the bus transfers and they have specific flight/airport info on each transfer passenger, so good to go there.

I don’t have a fear of needles, but I can’t think about what’s going on when I get stuck or I get woozy. I show the phlebotomist where to find my one good vein, warn her that I’ve gotten woozy in the past, the turn my head, close my eyes, and go to a happy place. And I can’t donate because I have only one vein that works, and only with a very small needle. I couldn’t fill a bag in the time limit.

Home. The kids had almost 2 anna half hours at the park - they should sleep well tonight. Me too. Since I couldn’t go to Aldi, I’m going to see if SIL will have a problem with me going to Aldi when they open, doing my shopping, then swinging over to grab the kids. It’ll save him a trip, so I expect he’ll be OK with it.

Speaking of Da Jungle - I’ve been getting some weird stuff lately. Last week, I got a package with a college-ruled notebook and 2 pink erasers. No, I hadn’t ordered any such things, but somehow, they got sent to me. Then today, I got an envelope from the warehouse in Houston with nothing in it. No packing list, no order number, ship date of 8/6 which doesn’t match up with any of my orders (all of which I’ve received anyway.) But it had my name and address on it. I monitor my VISA account, and there are no unidentified charges. I don’t know - it’s weird…

Daughter got 2 resumes in today - maybe FCD won’t have to teach after all! But he’s pressing ahead with his planning.

I taught 2 sections of Algebra at the junior college where I worked briefly in Jacksonville, and I was amazed at the amount of time the planning took. Had I taught the following semester, it would have been lots easier, but since I got my engineering job, I didn’t need to teach to pay the bills.

My supper tonight (early) was a bowl of corn chex with blueberry yogurt dumped over it. Strange taste sensation, but not terrible. Also not something I’d do again. I’m still hungry - must forage.

I see that our friend Pilot posted nine hours ago.

The news report of the pilot of a flight from Miami to Santiago dying during the flight had me worried until I read that it happened early Tuesday morning.

I am certainly glad our friend is OK

Actually, I just found out this afternoon that I will be changing supes! More on that below.

oopsie, I cut cable a couple of decades ago and never looked back. Streaming has definitely gotten better and my little indoor antenna pulls in 40+ local channels, so there’s always something to watch.

{{{JtC}}} You may need hugs for a while, so consider yourself hugged daily.

I found out this afternoon that I will be transition to the new team in my same position. Yay! Not only that, when the transition finally happens, I will be on more normal irk hours, 5 8 hour days. I think that I’ll feel better as far as sleeping and bone issues go. The icing on the cake is that I had a good working relationship with my new lead in my former position (she worked in Quality back then and that was always one of my areas to reconcile inventory). While I’ve never worked with my new supe, she reached out to one of my old supes in inventory (old supe is no longer with the company) who she replaced and got rave reviews (awesome thanks to Nicole!). I think I may be able to get along until retirement.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

The morning plan was for the family to head to the airport for a week in Las Vegas. The morning reality involved us as the second vehicle in a four vehicle chain reaction smash-up. Nobody hurt too bad, and we still made the flight because it was delayed an hour.

Holy crap on a cracker! Glad it wasn’t worse! But your bad luck is out of the way before getting to Vegas? Good sign?

I’m sleeping with Mel tonight. I need a good night.

Today seemed to pretty much suck for most of us, didn’t it?

They still adore me at irk, but DH got cut loose today. :frowning:
