(Old) It's the heat AND the humidity in the MMP!

Ariel sports orange ShooFly leg wraps on all 4. The wraps keep flies off their legs. Ariel also wears a fly mask on her face to keep the flies off her eyes and ears.

@nonacetone , find the patient representative for the hospital. S/ he will put you in touch with the finance office. There are often emergency funds within the hospital to cover charges for those who do not have insurance.

Very nice.

I’m so sorry you have this much rant material.

GO YOU!!!

It’s not really all that surprising, considering how awesome you are, but still GO YOU!!!

Purty.

Oh how fun! Learning new techniques and new tools is always a good time for me too.

Today I finished planning out my trip to Idaho. Whenever I’ve traveled with hubs he has always wanted to gogogogo and hurry and get there. I didn’t like doing it when we were young (and in a hurry because we had to get back to work) and I can see no reason to do it now that I’m retired.

I’m going to take three days to drive up via Lake Powell and Provo and then back through Nevada with an overnight in Ely. I’ve got touristy stops planned on the way and my schedule allows me to stop just because if I want.

Mom sounded a little disappointed that she couldn’t come with me because she likes looking at rocks and trees, so we are planning a couple of day trips while I’m visiting.

All of the hotels I’ve been in lately have “business centers” with computers and printers for their guests. Do you guys know if there is typically a charge for using them? Our next set of class instructions will arrive while I’m in Boise and I’m going to want to print two copies. Failing that, Mom has a library card and I’m sure the library has printers available for not much money.

Currently it is 107F. There is a saying out this way “Once it gets into the triple digits, it doesn’t matter if it’s a dry heat or not, it’s just fucking hot.” I just finished putting ice in GG’s water fountain and he is out there making a mess. I put some ice in the poor fuchsia. I put some ice in the bird bath. I did not put ice in the snik bowl because I think they probably don’t like cold water.

Howdy Y’all! I did have a bout of unslothfulness and accomplished mowage this mornin’. We’re promised storms again beginnin’ Wednesday, so let’s hope my unsloth like behavior is justified. We did an early sup and are enjoyin’ bein’ inside in the a/c.

I have a sad. One of my favorite childhood heroes died today. Officer Don was a must watch show way back then. I was even on the show once and played oooey-gooey. I won a goodie bag cause I had mad skilz!

When last I traveled much for business, no, there wasn’t a charge to use the business centers in the hotels. I was traveling for either non-profits or on the federal HHS/CMS dollar, so not fancy places.

I use my library’s printing service all the time because I refuse to pay the outrageous costs of home printer ink for the few pages I need once in a while. My library is 0.15 cents a page for black and white. They offer color also. I can order printing from home via their website and go in and pick it up. I can also go in and download it via my email using one of their computers. Try looking up your mom’s library website and see what they offer.

Went to Trader Joe’s. The parking lot was a zoo. I was going to go to Fred Meyer, but I suspected it was the same.

SWMBO wants me to get the air conditioner out, and bring it into the house. She says it’s probably going to be hotter tomorrow.

well good news ,we finally have furniture and it looks like a house and wer’e having our first bbq tomorrow ,with stuff worth burning charcoal for

Well it’s about 6-8 weeks late but it was between 105-108 all weekend so the AV bbq and wind festival commenced

I like fireworks but the morons here never really stop shooting them off year round I’m s bit tired of them anymore …
now to get favorite uncle driving so he can bring the ribs he paid a fortune for …

you know the more I hear about people’s medical bill problems reminds me of why I live in ca … and la county specifically … the hospitals and social worker types have no problem pulling one over the state and fed govt to help you pay them

Gee, I was kinda hoping for a more exotic explanation … but thanks - I learned something!

Apart from loading and running the dishwasher, I haven’t done much. Chillage abounds!

ShooFlys are rather exotic! I was the first to use them at my barn and now most every horse wears them. They come in DayGlo pink and blue as well as orange.

Ran the dishwasher and am settled in with a book. I have Cheetos for a later snack. And maybe a cookie.

My liberry only charges ten cents a dance, err, copy.

Oh, I definitely won’t be staying at fancy places. Mom liked to stay in resorts and I have to say that while I can see the attraction for some folks, they were wasted on me. I was really surprised at how inexpensive lodging was when you don’t want “free” breakfast or fancy drinks served by cabana boys. (Although the cabana boys at the resort in Tucson were very pretty…)

I adore libraries and usually visit one in every place I visit if I have time. Some of the children’s rooms are just amazing.

It’s just that getting Mom out of any door is a half hour (at least) task because she has a number of small security objects she must have at all times, but because they are small, she misplaces them in her own purse. (Glasses both walking and driving not to mention her stitching glasses just in case, wallet, keys, motel key if appropriate, bank cards that should be in the wallet but often aren’t, hat, tie shoes, use restroom, double check that all security objects are findable after washing hands, search bathroom for usually hat and a pair of glasses.) It would be much easier on both of us if I could just bring a flash drive to a handy printer or comp without involving her.

Mine as well, and they don’t charge the local volunteer organizations anything…so I bring them a ream of paper when I think about it as a donation.

Evening all. Swimming and sauna were duly completed, the lying scale says I gained about 4lbs this weekend (given the Sunday Golden Corral visit and having the Jersey Mike’s meal before weigh-in I guess it’s possible). Anyway the calories will decrease as the week goes on, so hopefully the numbers will head back the other way. We did get rain and there might be more in the offing, so the city fireworks display, which is due at 9pm tonight, may be in doubt. Wasn’t planning on going anyway, I’m about 3 miles away from the park so I’ll hear it just fine.

nellie, I really do hope that they recognize your difficulties and get that information to you. Maybe Mel will be in tomorrow. And rant away, being in discomfort/pain for that length of time is not pleasant.

{{{{{ace}}}}}, that’s a horrible situation, with the health issues, the husband’s behavior, and the all-consuming costs of health care in the US of A. Others have given you some practical advice, all I can offer are more {{{{hugs}}}}. Please take care.

Niner, glad the mystery ailment disappeared as fast as it came on. And sounds like you’re a cinch for the NDSU position, hope the friendship works out OK.

FCM, the ship (or is it a boat, or do we compromise on vessel?) looks like it’s coming along quite nicely.

hippie, I stand (well, recline) in awe at your knitting powers.

JtC, I’m a lot like your husband, I want to get from A to B, see what there is to see at B, and then find the quickest way to C. Your way is probably better for seeing life as it is in the places you pass through, however. Enjoy.

As for the business centers, depends on the level of hotel. Most will let you print things like an airline boarding pass or something like that for free, if you want a 100-page document, they might have a charge. Best to check when you check in, methinks.

Shady, glad the move is mostly complete without any homicides (umm, there weren’t any homicides, were there???).

OK, need to finish the day’s internetting and since I bought a Moanday New York Times, need to get some quality reading done before bedtime. Take care all.

Kinda sorta making this recipe:

But with breast rather than thigh, additional tomato paste, additional broth, added frozen cherry tomatoes, no vegetables, no onion, shallot flakes, garlic.

You can just say trawler. Or yacht is also correct. Or boat.

As I am falling asleep in my recliner, I think it’s bedtime.

Good luck on your surgery cookie!

Like lily, I’m good with dry heat. My bones tend to feel better.

{{{wordy}}} You sure have had a lot on your plate lately.

WTG niner!

{{{ace}}} I don’t have anything to add to the suggestions that hasn’t already been mentioned, but hugs to you, your daughter and your hubs.

Flashed Samsungs again today. The cow-orker who usually does them took half of Thursday and today off to drive her kid to Florida. I had forgotten how wonky the third party software used to program those phones really was. Had me cussin’, it did. :stuck_out_tongue:

The painters were doing the trim and patio fences when I got home, so I played watergirl again when I took Nelson out, since it was ~97F out there. My trim and patio fence are now cream and the front door is light brown. Tomorrow morning, I’ll put the patio furniture back in place while it’s still cool out.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I never got the call, but my MRI results are on MyChart. I think I have a pretty good vocabulary, but I had to look up a lot of medicalese. It looks like I have a torn meniscus, some Level 4 cartilage breakdown (I have no idea what Level 4 means.), and a couple of small fractures. I have an appointment on Thursday with the PA to discuss treatment options. At least now I have some idea as to why it’s been so painful.

swampy, I’m sorry about Officer Don. He looks like a kindly man. You’re going to have to explain oooey-gooey to me, but I’m impressed with young you! Also, what was in the goodie bag?

shady, yay on furniture! I’m sure the BBQ will be yum!

Drops lorgnette Oh, my goodness! I’m shocked, I tell you, shocked!

Cracked me up!

A kindred spirit! When I die, I plan to haunt the Library of Congress.

Also, my experience with printing at a hotel has been like MetalMouse’s.

Niner, that’s GREAT that you’re in line for AD! It sounds very promising, too! I’ll keep my fingers crossed since you still want the MN job.

Lily. that looks like a delicious recipe you’ve reinvented!

I did the reheaving. it’s freaking hot in miserable in the building. The one fan wasn’t working, and the lights kept going out in different places. The fireworks have started by work(definitely fireworks, and not somebody popping off with a 9). But I got a cold Old Fashioned, a warm cat, and it’s bacon cheeseburgers, fries, and corn on the cob with Old Bay for dinner.

Please try not to diasapoint us, either. Good luck.

: crosses fingers : But then you wouldn’t be an Acolyte any more.

Edit: Spot just sneezed on my forehead. Ewwwwwwww. Poor guy has been sneezing since the heatwave began.

I almost called hubs a typical man because I don’t know any women who drive as hard as men unless there is a good reason. Most of us want to pee every once in a while and we can’t do that on the side of the freeway like men can.

I briefly considered inviting hubs to come along, but he’s looked at my trip plan and it was pretty clear that it would drive him nutz. He helpfully tried to make a trip plan that didn’t include scenic stops and hour breaks every couple of hours but while I thanked him for taking the time, I did tell him to not bother sending it to me because I’m going to use my plan anyhow.

The expense of another day in a motel room isn’t what is bothering him, it’s the time “wasted” that makes him crazy.

It’s possible he is going to miss me, cause this is the longest I’ve been gone since we have been together.

I agree with you that I should ask when checking in. I’m willing to pay a reasonable amount for convenience, but the patterns and notes are usually 15-20 pages per class which might be a bit much for the business center.

I took Boo’s suggestion of looking up Mom’s library and learned that I could get guest access for computer use but wouldn’t be allowed to actually borrow any physical media, so that could be a Momless option as well.

There will come a day when youth will fade away and what will they think about me…

No, boring, it’s almost all automated nowadays. Pick a small community library, that’s where all the action is! Ours has a fabulous children’s room and a small meeting room for Tai-Chi, Dungeons and Dragons as well as Stitching Hour, plus friendly library folks who will look up and order any book you want, plus pull others they think you might like just because they love reading almost as we do.

Imma wanna be where the action is!

How are his eyes? VBC gets horrible allergies just about the same time as I do so I try to wipe the fur under her eyes with a warm washcloth when she is the right mood.

It has been blessedly quiet so far. I’m amazed, I was expecting that some of our yahoo neighbors would be setting things off by now. Hopefully tomorrow will be just as quiet.

Nextdoor has been quiet too. It’s really pretty scary TBH.

He gets the occasional eye booger, but not too bad.
Roomie found Cheese: A Love Story. Spot and I are having a moment.

I get very excited on holiday eves. (I get quite mental on Christmas Eve, to quote Ed Grimley). Even though tomorrow is not a holiday in my life, I’m too excited to sleep. I’m now having a glass of milk and 2 Biscoff cookies. JtC you could also print out your pattern at a Fed Ex place. I had to send a FAX a few weeks ago and sent it from the FE place.

No, no. My plan arose when I got a fellowship to the LOC some years back. The Thomas Jefferson building is absolutely gorgeous! There are parts of the LOC the public can’t access, including a rare documents room where I saw a 16th century map of the world and George Washington’s map of Mount Vernon. (The only word on the whole thing was a garden bed labeled “BEETS.” Why no other labels? Was he that fond of beets?)

I also liked the fact that it’s quiet in there. I miss the cathedral hush libraries used to have. It bespoke a reverence toward books and reading that I loved even as a kid. My local library is noisy, in part because it serves as a warming/cooling location for homeless. I love that it does, but I can’t concentrate in there, and the Quiet Room is always at capacity.

Speaking of quiet, the nightly war on quiet, fireworks edition has commenced. I feel sorry for every veteran with PTSD, every cat, every dog, and everyone trying to sleep. If I had a bullhorn, I’d say, “We don’t like you, and we’re not impressed.” I’m sure they’d stop immediately.
