(Old) It's the heat AND the humidity in the MMP!

Unauthorized fireworks weren’t too bad last night. History suggests they’ll continue in dribs and drabs for about 1-2 weeks.

It’s 93 with an expected high of 98. The AQI was bad this morning (smoke, pollen, fireworks, stagnation) but has now dropped into the “okay enough for most, but not for you, susan” range. I have the pollen filter on (a higher setting on the HVAC). I’m creating much indoor pollution by moving books around and dusting, but in about 2 hours I’ll stop that for the day and, if the air is better, do some garden tasks; if it’s not, I’ll sort/recycle papers for a while. I might be on dinner duty, but since my lovely wife is visiting someone, I’m not sure yet. Maybe GF broccoli-crust pizza, if it’s not too hot by then. Otherwise, cucumber-tomato salad and improved bagels will have to do.

My dad had a saying: ‘Better thee than me.’ So, ‘Better he than me.’ TBH, our Collections department is very professional; not like the Horror Collections People we always hear about. They really try to help the debtors. But hey, if the guy won’t play ball, it gets turned over to Legal. As for me, I work strictly with commercial credit. I don’t know how the guy got my extension, or if he just randomly punched numbers. Either way, it’s not my job.

omgosh, It’s less than 22 hrs since I was last on the MMP and there are 65 new posts :aack:

How about Vroom?

oopsie Happy Doperversary! :tada: Enjoy the show at the Kennedy Center. So awesome that you live close enough to go there every now and then.

@carnut: CrazyCarLady? No, I didn’t think so either, but I had to ask.

Truthfully, back on vBulletin the use of MMP nicknames had no downsides. Now on Discourse with the @ feature, I think of the MMP nicknames as cute but annoying anachronisms that make following the MMP much harder.

If everyone referred to me as @LSLGuy then Discourse can help me find your comments or questions or brickbats. Conversely pilot is no help at all; I have to search inside the thread to try to find any mention of me that’s deserving a response. The multiquote system on Discourse works much better IMO than did vBulletin, so I tend to use that when speaking to the various comments of various posters.

I’m a relative latecomer here and am trying to reduce my posting efforts a bit, so my vote should not count for much. But IMO us collectively wandering away from nicknames would improve the utility of these threads.

jack, you and Bob are a pair of handsome lads (I like th esecond pic best ).

Wow yank! No wonder that you’ve been scarce around here. I’m glad everyone’s adjusting and hope that the wasps didn’t do too much damage to you.

nellie, I’ve been taking bottles of water out to our painters when I walk Nelson in the afternoon and they’re somewhere on my end of the complex. Gotta keep them hydrated when they’re working outdoors in 95+F heat.

Irked, made an optometrist appointment for the 13th on the way home, walked Nelson (and played watergirl) and et. Not a lot shaking at CasaRoja. :stuck_out_tongue:

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Happy Hump Day!

No park today as I have an MRI scheduled. I probably could fit both in, but I hate to rush, well, I can’t rush. That just doesn’t irk for me.
My right foot and ankle feel better since wearing the boot. I didn’t think I’d notice a difference so soon.

Today has been a quiet day. The GR are sleepy. They seemed to sleep through the fireirks, but maybe not a good sleep.
I ordered a bell for the door hoping they will learn to ring the bell when they want to go out. The bell came with a desk type bell that you push a knob to make the bell right. My son is trying to teach them to ring the bell to get a treat. Rayleigh and Echo are working on it. Misiu says screw that bell, I’ll go ask mom for a treat. She has the better kind anyway.

MRI went okay. I didn’t get too spazzed out.
I was asked if I wanted headphones so I could listen to music, then I couldn’t hear the music anyway.
I just closed my eyes and when the guy said 10 more minutes, I started counting to 600. We were done by the time I got to 450, so either I was counting slow, or we were done sooner than expected.
The heat and humidity outside made me feel worse than the MRI did.

I should sit outside for a bit, but it’s so damn hot out there. The GR usually like to stay outside, but they are not staying out long today. We had a few showers, but they were brief. My son got the yard whacked before they started. There are some interesting new weeds coming up, with pretty yellow flowers. I’ll have to look them up.
One year I had a nice wild flower garden, I loved it. It was supposed to come back and never did. I also had Cleomes, which I was assured would take over and I’d never ger rid of them, and they never came back either. I think these new yellow flowers may have come back from the wild flower garden.
I’m probably the only person in the world who gets excited over weeds in their yard.
If I had the space, I’d love to have acres of wild flowers, with lots of Milkweed for the Monarchs.

Like any of us care about utility… :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: it’s all about being in the club. Granted, it’s not exactly an exclusive club, but it’s ours!

I was eaten alive by skeeters while taking down and folding my laundry. Gonna be an itchy night. But my t-shirts smell good! I love line-dried clothes!

Did I say 7-zip disappeared from my irk computer? I need it.

So, I ‘went home’ for the day. We just sat down for some artichoke that I’d boiled. The phone rang. It was our IT support. By the time he got 7-zip re-installed, the artichoke leaves I’d peeled off were cold. Fortunately, the rest was still warm. Goo insisted I give her some artichoke. To my surprise, she liked it and kept begging.

Hello! I have survived the back thingie and the laying flat time and the fourth of July. Around here people were very, very bad and decided to try to burn down the state with all of their enormous friggin’ fireworks. Fortunately we are not burning, so that’s good. I still want to kick a LOT of asses around here.

Hope everyone is well. Hugs to all.

Good news!

I am ridiculously happy about the fact that I’m about to make some microwave popcorn (PopSecret Homestyle). I’ve gotten into the habit of having a bag every night, but I didn’t bring any to NJ — though there was a microwave in my B&B room. I brought a few single-serve bags of Skinny Pop with me, and it was good, but it’s just not the same as some freshly-popped Homestyle!

Oh, I’m way ahead of you: I’ve been researching this for about a year already. I have it narrowed down to three local places that look promising on paper, and am just stalled at the point of actually making phone calls/visits.

In other news… SWMBO asked me yesterday where my hammock frame is. I told her. Today she ‘suggested’ I put up the hammock.

Unfortunately, I don’t have time to lie about. Good hammock for $15, but I think I’d like a traditional hammock with spreaders better.

You’ve been in my thoughts all day @Chefguy. I’m sure all went well and that you are busy recovering/resting, but please do check in when you get a chance. Your fans are concerned.

Is a kitty-door sized hole in the wall an option?

Or an automatic door closer? I have one like that in my stitching room because hubs likes living in a meat locker and I do not. The tension is adjustable and VBC is easily able to open the door from either side as needed. GG…not so much. You haven’t indicated that your cats have fewer than one brain cell to share, so they could probably figure it out as well. Cooling the whole outdoors would make me nutz too.

Awwwww.

Thanks, follow up questions will probably happen after our first dispensary outing. I’m planning on listening in while NF is talking to the budista, I’d like to do something to help hubs with his pain as well. He’s not a regular user, he doesn’t like the time distortion weed gives him but I’m guessing that’s because the only thing he’s smoked in 35 years is my ses heavy shit instead of checking out hybrids or indiga for himself.

There was one BANG around midnight, but we learned this morning that it was the cops serving a no-knock warrant on the meth house half a mile away.

Of course, there is a county wide fire ban which includes fireworks and smoking outside. Wildfire season is in full swing.

People know that if they start shooting off fireworks, their neighbors will be banging on their doors and yelling at them because ain’t nobody wants their house to burn down.

The poor man is probably so scared. He can’t lash out at the nurses because they are the ones who have control over everything, so he is taking it out on you. It isn’t right, but so very common. I wonder if he could have some gummies? With doctor permission, of course. It won’t do a thing directly for his health, but might make him a little happier, which would make him relax which would help with the healing because your body can’t heal when it is as tight as a drumhead.

Is it too late to return it, because the top ring didn’t hold air from the time you got it. Did it come with a patch kit? If it didn’t, do you want one of ours? Every time we bought a new waterbed mattress, it came with a patch kit, which got tossed in a drawer with the other waterbed stuff and over the years we have acquired a number of them. I’d be happy to send you one.

Here’s another blast from the past. President Nixon used to golf at a course just off the beach in San Onofre (San Clemente) a couple of times a week, one of which was a weekend day. Of course, nobody else was allowed to golf when he was golfing and anyone at the 19th hole was locked in with food and drinks provided until he was done golfing. Dad and I used to spend many a Saturday enjoying fancy food and drinks on the taxpayer dime while watching that lonely man hit balls around an empty (but for him and his SS detail) golf course.

Wow, I am so sorry. Dang about the arm and worse about your eyes. What a nightmare! I hope things get better soon.

Snort!

He would if I was able to ignore his unpacked suitcase for a week or so. I did it once, but it was really hard, so I guess I’m to blame for that.

Today was surplus produce and there was no produce in the box, not even a couple of potatoes. There was a loaf of white bread, a bag of blueberry bagels, whole wheat english muffins and a bag of hot dog buns along with 2 dozen eggs and half a case of Gatoraid. We also got a large container of sliced deli turkey-GG and COC think it is yum, some smoked gouda (I need to learn how to smoke cheese and salmon. I know we can do it with our smoker, we just haven’t done it yet.) and assorted canned stuff which included collard greens. I don’t like to complain about what is in the boxes, but I really do like getting produce.

We also got five packs of El Comal White Corn Sopes which we have never had before but are trying tonight. I love getting mystery food in my free mystery box.

NF is getting one of the bags of sopes and BFF asked for one. I gave one to our housekeeper and one to the chicken lady who says she likes to freeze them to give to her chickens like a cornsickle.

Evening all. Still warm out (82F at 8pm), but due to get to 72F tonight, so might let the AC have the night off come bedtime. Cheeseburger has been assimilated and all else is well. Amtraks Southwest Chief just arrived in LaPlata, Missouri (railfan-ing while typing)., lots of Boy Scouts and Mennonites boarding tonight. Once that is done I’ll head off for some reading and TV’ing until bedtime comes.

Pilot, understand your point, but the MMP has been around for many years and, to quote Teyve from Fiddler on the Roof, “TRADITION!!”

JtC, nice story on Nixon and the golfing feast.

Sunny, glad to see your return and hoping that back behaves.

Sari, glad the MRI went OK. Never have had one, but as I get older and things start to break down, I suspect one is in my future sometime.

I like it. Or maybe Racefan

OK, train has loaded up and departed for Kansas City (and eventually LA). I’m tired and will probably do my reading from the bed. Take care all.

A vote for Vroom.

{{{Sari}}} so sorry to hear about your leg and feet issues. I’ll bet some of the exercises are for stretching the muscles in your legs. That will definitely help with relieving the pain.
Wish you could send the Queen Anne’s Lace to me, I love them. Used to decorate sand cakes with QAL with my cousin in the sandbox at our Grandparents’ cottage.
I’m glad that it seems that Cerby’s new home is working out for him.
You’re welcome about Sheetz. I’m glad it was worthwhile and the GR were beneficiaries.

Dicey Bon Voyage; Vaya con Dios! :airplane:

Anytime! Ranting is good for the soul as well as the chest. {{{Ace}}}

yanker mighty fine looking boat you have there Captain.

Busy day today. Alarm went off at 6am; showered, quick bit of bagel then drove Hubs to hospital for 8am echocardiogram. Yesterday he had mentioned that he would like to go to a particular diner near the hospital for breakfast afterwards. I had told him that there wouldn’t be time as I had to be to work by 9:55 at the latest for a training session at 10am. I was surprised to see him walk into the waiting room at 8:25, I had figured it would take much longer, so I said, OK, I think we have time to go to Angelo’s. Cute little place. Breakfast was quick and decent. Not busy at all. On way home to drop off Hubs, I stopped at my friend’s home to pick up a dozen fresh eggs and money for the last 4 expediting gigs.

When I agreed to help her out, she asked how much I wanted and I didn’t want to overstep and hoped that 50% wouldn’t be too much. She wanted to give me more but I said that since she was paying for the gas and there would be wear and tear on the truck, that I didn’t want more than that. So, one of the gigs was for $190 which would translate into $95@. But she calculated it as $80. Been thinking about this several times today and I have decided not to say anything. She needs the money more than I do.

Dropped off Hubs, practically pushed him out of the car with the eggs and the leftovers from breakfast then hurriedly drove to work. Got there at 9:53 so had time to boot up computer and attempt to hook up to the training. Had to call IT as it didn’t appear that it was going to work but it was just that I was early and the trainer started several minutes late anyway. After that I drove 20 miles to meet up with a former coworker whose birthday was last Friday. Had a very good Grilled Fajita Pita. We split both a fatouch salad and a lemon tart for dessert. Then I had to drive back rapidly to work to get to a 2pm training. Got back and punched in at 1:57 so made it with time to spare since again the trainer didn’t start the session until about 2:04. After that I had to do the real work that I normally do and so didn’t get home until about 5:40. Long day but I’m over the Hump and lived to tell about it.

As many times as I’ve seen “cats be weird” they still find ways to surprise us.

You hold; I kick?

… or we can switch it around.

Use this phrase: “Micro dose.”

We Mumpers hafta stick together, yanno.

Not bad but perhaps a bit long. I do have a sign my brother gave me that says “one cat away from crazy” but sadly, no cats at the moment. I actually have a boatload of nicknames and several ideas for one but I want to see what you folks come up with. But pilot makes it easy to deduce what you do for a living even if your posts didn’t give it away. I’m recovering from a career that made me swear to stay away from corporate jobs forever and just working at a tiny office now - and that just made me think of another nickname - but I’ll still hold out for your best efforts.

CatHand, Vroom isn’t bad. It comes close to one I thought of, which is zoom-zoom for all the Mazdas we have at the racetrack these days. But I’m really not a Mazda fiend, despite having a CX-5 as my daily driver.

Wildflower gardens are a crapshoot. If it’s not right for your coldness zone or if you have lots of small, seed-eating critters, you might not see a second year of blooms. But lord help you if you get it right because there’s usually lots of invasive stuff in wildflower seed packets. I ended up with Myosotis sylvatica a type of forget-me-not, throughout my yard due to kids scattering seeds in the field above my home. It was a losing battle. So, I sold the house.

Okay, that’s not why I sold, but it’s all come to naught anyway.

Cleome seeds don’t survive our cold Minnesota winters so I’ll plant 'em like crazy and not worry about the seeds. They are pretty flowers and the bees just love them.

Busy at Twilight. Outbound looked like Peak season. :open_mouth:

Yay!

The Good Ice machine broke today. They better fix that, or I’m gonna riot.

I don’t remember who was having cat-door issues, but how about one of these? Ideal Pet Products 10.5 in. x 15 in. Large White Pet and Dog Patio Door Insert for 77.6 in. to 80.4 in. Aluminum Sliding Glass Door 80PATXLW - The Home Depot

Quick search, there’s maybe a one sized better for a cat?
