Those were fascinating videos @LSLGuy thank you so much for sharing them!
Oh, I have one of those, too. (Don’t most people?)
Oh, he definitely needed to re-fuel.

I missed out on the old Tegucigalpa, the old Hong Kong, and the old Quito.
As you can sorta see in the last few seconds of the second vid, the approach end of the runway to new Quito is at the edge of a cliff. So you’re flying above a canyon that suddenly veers away to the side, the ground rises abruptly and then the runway starts on the bluff-top. Produces “interesting” turbulence, up- and down-drafts depending on which way the wind is blowing. The good news is the runway is plenty long to offset the elevation. The bad news is the bluffs at both ends.
We were not going to agree on one pizza, so each getting his/her preferred variation kept us from quarrelling about it. We did agree on stuffed crust, extra cheese, olives, and mushrooms. Mine added light creamy garlic sauce, pepperoni, and sausage. His added Hawaiian with green bell pepper (ew).
If you had had to do landings at Kai Tak you would have been drinking something stronger than Mosaic.
Psst. Usually cheaper to get one large half-and-half, rather than two medium or smalls.
Probably, but his horrible green peppers would have contaminated my half with their stench.
LOL I feel the same way about mushrooms, so I completely understand.
(I can smell a large double-mushroom coming out of the ovens from clear across the kitchen, and not in a good way. Ye gods, I hate slicing them - being that close makes me understand pregnant women throwing up at the mere scent of food-like substances.)
Thanks,for all the congrats!
This has been very stressful because I am a World-Class worrywart.
Also my now-former boss got diagnosed with a Stage 4 glioblastoma in early June and has allready been told “you’ve got 12-18 months”. This brought home how brutal cancer can be.
Jeebus. There are no words.
Glioblastomas are nasty. So many of their symptoms can be explained away. Like, her speech got garbled for an hour or two but went away. She was sure it was from cleaning an area and discovering after the fact it had had a rodent infestation. Headaches are super easy to explain. Etc.
FCM, at this rate you’ll never need a gym membership like several of us
But with luck, all this work will be done in the next week. Teachers report on Tuesday (I got snookered into making a contribution for their breakfast pot luck, since I’m now married to a teacher…) Today will be a short one, then I get the kids for the afternoon - SIL has work and Daughter has to go to Baltimore with her #2 for some training that will allow them to dispense meds to students. Not random meds or random students, of course…
She’ll come by my house on the way home to fetch her spawn. It won’t be till after 6 or so, but I’ll stuff some pasta into the kids and maybe even let them play in the bath before she gets here. Speaking of bath - how adorbs is this??
big plastic container of cables and cords that I’ve had since the '80s and don’t connect to anything anymore,
You wouldn’t believe the cables and cords I’ve been finding at the school, in all sorts of places! And power supplies that don’t work (Why weren’t they trashed??) Not to mention all the power strips that were daisy-chained in various classrooms. FCD has decreed that they all be gathered up and he alone will be permitted to give them out if needed. Some of the strips were actually in the overhead, sitting on the suspended ceiling!!! Can you say Fire Hazard? And then there are all the cameras, all of which the previous #2 accessed from home - that’s not creepy at all, is it?? Not even the one in the room where girls tried on their uniforms… So glad he’s gone.
I feel the same way about mushrooms,
Oh dear. Now I have to re-think whether I want you to be my friend… On the other hand, more 'shrooms for me!!!
FCD is sleeping in today - yay! He did take his 6AM meds because I took them to him. I think the antibiotics are working. Incidentally, the doc thinks the (likely) MRSA is because of all the work he’s been doing around insulation. He had a scrape on one knee and I’m guessing that’s how the germies got into him. The spot on his gut that was drained is looking much better, and the 2 spots on his leg are still oozing and draining, which is also good. I think he has 3 more days of antibiotics, so fingers crossed.
MIL called me last evening - something about Amazon calling her number asking for me regarding a delivery and $37 or some such nonsense. I have no idea how someone associated her phone number with me and with Amazon - she never had an account there. Now, in the past, we did order a few things from Da Jungle that were sent to them in Ocala, but I would never have included their phone number. Anyway, she didn’t give out any information and I told her it was a scam. So we’re all good, except I’m pissed that anyone is trying to scam a nonagenarian. Dammit.
But it’s another hot one ahead and I’ll have to dress and head out in a bit. Happy Saturday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 97 and N.O.S. for the day. A HAWT one comin’ up! We shall indulge in sloth and general overall uselessness as is our wont. There will be quality cee-mint pond time, nappage, day drinkin’, well, the usual stuff. Any need to feed will be via forage as we have plenty of sammich makin’s, chips, etc. Thus shall it be in swampland.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah,
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 19c/67f with no predicted change today, and we’re expecting rain showers. Weather app is unimpressed and tells me that “I polled the masses and 99% of the people questioned stated fucking rain blows goats.”
Pilot thanks for sharing the videos, it’s a fantastic view from the front seat!
Taters your day out at Deception Pass looks lovely, I saw the pics on the Book of Faces and the scenery is beautiful.
Vrooom sorry to hear about the rain problems. We have a leak somewhere in the chimney that lets water through and has caused a damp patch in our bedroom. It’s annoying because we’ve had three people do three separate expensive repairs on the chimney/roof but still the water gets in. More annoying because I want to redecorate the room but there’s no point if there’s a problem like that to be fixed first.
We had a fun night out seeing a couple of bands, chatted to one of the bands before and after their gig, caught up with a couple of friends and had a few beers. I was home and in bed by midnight though, and up early to go to the gym.
I cleaned the litter trays and fed/medicated the cats which is my usual morning routine and as a result, I feel justified in telling people I to “tums and bums” two or three times a day! Had some granola and a cup of tea then went to the gym for a spin class and then a weights class. Back home with more tea, two litter trays cleaned again, one cat bribed with food to take some more medication, and pretty soon I need to get myself tidied up ready to face the public.
Off to town for lunch at the Good Chinese Place, a couple of errands, and then home for some slothage. We need to fleabomb the bedroom so I think I’ll do that before we go out, shut the mogs out of the room of course, and then it’ll be ready to clean up when we get back. Joy of joys.
Happy Sattidy right back atcha swampy. And to all and sundry.
Balconatin’ and caffinatin’ and have been since a bit before sunrise. Now around 730 it’s warming past 86/30 towards 95/35 and the pre-dawn sea breeze has left us. The portents are for increasing traffic and noise and I may retreat indoors in a bit. Meanwhile the puffy clouds are puffing, the mourning doves are happily boo-hooing, the sea sparkles calmly, and most is right with the world.
The major accomplishment for yesterday besides irk was putting in my druthers for next month’s irk for the final time. My birthday being near mid-month produces some wrinkles for the partial month that I don’t normally have to deal with. Whatever … the worst it could be is not bad, or at least not long-lasting.
Today shall be slothage and if I get to the point of starting the car, a car wash. Her Ladyship and I are finally converging on a decision for Medicare supplement plans, so those shall be applied for today as well. Hooray for the internet.
We got our Medicare cards a couple weeks ago and our first Part B bills already. When it comes to billing, Medicare seems to be Johnny-on-the-spot. Hope they’re as good at paying bills as they are at sending them.
His added Hawaiian with green bell pepper (ew).
Divorce is too good for 'im. Jeebus that’s vile.
This has been very stressful because I am a World-Class worrywart.
Some worry concern is appropriate. As is long term monitoring. This risk is part of your life from now on. Just as everyone is learning to live with the incremental risk of COVID, you get to learn to live with the incremental risk of whichever cancer you had.
My late first wife was well-down the road of stage 4, but holding her own OK-ish when COVID hit. In a way it was comforting to us to know that a billion other people were suddenly worried about their own mortality after their lifetime of “What me worry?”. So it wasn’t just us and folks like us anymore.
Now, while COVID isn’t over and never will be, the emergency pretty much is. And that’s about where you are with cancer. The emergency is over, but residual risk remains and always will.
Maybe that perspective can be helpful to you as you rebuild a normal albeit subtly changed life.
Glioblastoma OTOH is a whole 'nuther kettle of piranhas. Poor bastard.
Moom, the kid pic is fantastic. And good to hear the MRSA or whatever is receding. Given aggressive dose management by someone other than the patient.
Cheers all!
I bitched a while ago over in the mini rants about how my loose toilet seat and lid were being unruly, including hitting me in the face while puking, and was told the bolts need tightening. Finally put in a maintenance request, and … it was canceled yesterday. Called to ask why, was put through to the person in charge of maintenance stuff (“she’s the one who canceled it; you can ask her directly”) aaaand … never heard back. Doubt I’ll get a reply on a Saturday, so I’ll be spending part of my Blessed Day Off on Monday chasing this down some more.
I’m planning on paying a neighbor to put together some shelves for me in the bathroom anyway; maybe I’ll just ask him to do it. Ferchrissakes.
how adorbs is this??
Um, it’s really friggin’ adorbs and you know it!
I get the Seabees don’t spend much time on ships. One big problem with the ocean is the damn surface just won’t stay graded. And bulldozers float almost as badly as anvils. But I figured some time in all those years you must have had a harrowing USN water encounter. If not it must have been pretty memorable during civilian life.
Came close to drowning as a teen in a boating accident. Then almost got run over by a huge cargo ship when the steering rudder quit working properly on one of those tourist peddle boats in Germany. Then capsized in a 2-person Laser on Lake Victoria; luckily had PFDs on, but in Africa there are worse things than drowning. At that point I just assumed that the gods were telling me to stay the hell off the water. I don’t even like beaches.
Anyway, new day. Knee pain from yesterday’s PT session. Had a lively T-storm come through last evening; high winds, T&L, and large hail (golf ball) bouncing off the windows. Glad we’re paying extra for garage parking. It was right at commute time and traffic was at a dead stop. But we didn’t lose power and it passed through quickly.
Yikes! I agree completely that water and you are just not meant for each other. Don’t tempt Fate. Your local 10,000 lakes are pretty to look at from a safe remove. Besides, about half the time they’re rock solid and even harder to drown in than normal water.
What is up with all the giant hail this summer? I certainly lived in a hail prone area for 20 years, but that was lots of occurrences of pea- to navy bean-sized hail and just once up around golf-ball sized and not too much of that.
Glad your car survived unscathed. And that you don’t own the roof over your head that might need repair or replacement too.
Morning all. Up by 6am and have the option of going to Coaches training today. Have been already in past years and have coached for 20+ years but based on what I hear, bureaucrazy for soccer organizations and the interests of keeping kids safe indicate I ought to take it again. Besides, gets me out of the house on a pretty good day (if you overlook the 40% chance of tunder-boomers this afternoon). We’ll see how ambitious I am in about an hour.
FCM, you should post a warning to diabetic folks before showing a picture that sweet…
vrooom, they’re usually pretty quick on getting a replacement card to you. Best of luck.
shoe, hope the terlet seat gets fixed and stops assaulting you.
Cookie, if that had happened to me I would share your dislike of the water.
OK, need to break fast and put on appropriate coach-training clothes. All y’all take care.
Mooooom, that’s totally adorable!
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, KP done and fixing to do some studio work before heading up to get the oil changed. Such excitement!
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Another day of sloth, with day drinking and bonus preseason handegg!
Also my now-former boss got diagnosed with a Stage 4 glioblastoma in early June and has allready been told “you’ve got 12-18 months”. This brought home how brutal cancer can be.
Cancer sucks.
all of which the previous #2 accessed from home - that’s not creepy at all, is it?? Not even the one in the room where girls tried on their uniforms… So glad he’s gone.
Daughter might consult with the legal staff.
how adorbs is this??
Totes Adorbs!
At that point I just assumed that the gods were telling me to stay the hell off the water.
Choosing the SeeBees over the USMC was wise, then.
hitting me in the face while puking,
Talk about kicking a woman when she’s down. Hope it gets fix quick.
