(Old) Laundry Day in the MMP

Mr. Coffee’s delay feature failed. It started when the light that indicates the delay is set stopped coming on, but the delay still worked. In the last couple of weeks, the delay may or may not set. I noticed that the delay time looked wonky. Yesterday afternoon, I set up the coffee for this morning. After a couple of hours, the pot turned itself on. The clock said it was 18:88, which is weird because it’s a 12-hour display clock (not to mention the minutes). I got up at a quarter to five this morning to push the On button.

Mr. Coffee machines’ quality seem to have plummeted. They seem to last two years, and then stop working. And the change from red LED displays to unlit LCD ones make the displays impossible to read in our kitchen without a flashlight. Time to try something different.

I did a quick search last night and found a Ninja coffee maker that the review said was ‘the best cheap coffee maker’. I ordered it. Mr. Coffee can be used manually (for now), so it will become one of the emergency backup coffee makers.

The reasons for not going into the Marines makes for a very long list.

It’s an easy fix and not too icky. I’d link to a YouTube vid but my phone is fighting me. But really, it’s simple

Taking a break after going non-stop for over 2 hours. I get the kids in a couple of hours and we’ll just veg on the basement.

But now, back at it…

I’m not exactly sure what this euphemism means, but I like it.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 64F and sunny with an expected high of 84F and mixed sun and clouds. Temps start their climb into the 90s tomorrow and Monday, the expected high is 96F. Ugh…too hot.

I mowed and edged the lawn yesterday, pulled some weeds, completed some pruning and deadheading, and took care of other minor chores. Then I just flooped. It’s the end of my vacation and there is no sense in running myself ragged.

I did not make it to Mt Rainier; it’ll be madness up there on a weekend, and I slept past my 3:00 am wake-up. The lines are probably ridiculously long at the gate right now.

I’ve started the sprinkler on my back lawn and will water each section in about 30 to 45-minute increments. After that, fresh water for the birds and water for some of the container plants. I will probably make a final trip to one of the box nurseries or the “fancy” nursery and pick up a couple more containers. I’ll also pick up pavers too so I can set up set my big storage box for garden tools. Then I’ll call the acquisition of plants done or stuff to go with the plants done for the season. I may try to find some fall plants, but I doubt it.

Oh, I also need to wash the patio down. Last night, while grilling burgers, my husband flipped a burger cheese side down onto the patio. This morning, an orange splat on the raised aggregate will bring in unwanted guests, so I’ll need to tend to that as well. Besides, it’s just gross and will probably stink in the heat.

Tomorrow is laundry day.

Today would have been a perfect day for gathering with the kids and grandkids and it just seems weird not sending up a message asking if they wanted to come on down for the day. The new normal. My daughter sent a video of the wild storm they had last night in their area of Missouri. It looked pretty cool.

kitap, the news about your former boss is terribly sad. Cancer is definitely evil.

cookie, your water mishaps sound like the movie Final Destination. Jeebus, you do need to stay away from water.

Okay, time to finish my coffee, run the dishwasher and hop in the shower.

Happy Saturday, all! I’m 1 hr 45 min into my volunteer committee Zoom meeting and they’re still talking, but I’m bored – and planning to have lunch/relocate to the living room as soon as it’s over – so I figured I’d pop in here. While staying on camera. Multitasking FTW.

Before the meeting started/this morning I showered and paid some bills (yesterday was payday! yay!), and there’s nothing else I need to do before going out this evening. I’ll want leave NLT 6pm, so I figure I have about 4.5 hours until I need to change and head out. Plenty of time to be a bum on the couch with the dog, which is my favorite weekend activity!

Ok, now it’s 1pm and this committee meeting is finally winding down. I’m glad I went to this one last meeting: it reminded me of the associated BS/challenging personalities that I’ll be glad to not have to deal with anymore. It’ll be good to see folks at the social gathering tomorrow, but mostly I’m ready to walk away from this group.

Totes adorbs!!

The kids are here. We’re watching Bluey. Life is good.

Monday morning my monitor would not work and I have just got it back. Will take a while to go through the thread.

Afternoon all. Spent a couple hours working with 6-7 year olds and getting my coach training chops done, hot and sweaty during the morning so glad to be back in the AC. Doing at least one load of laundry today (ran out of underwear) and maybe a second for shirts, we’ll see how it goes. Some rain may pass through between 1-3 pm, so maybe a good thing I got out there in the AM.

Welcome home, Cupcakes; shouldn’t take more than 3-4 hours to catch up…

And that’s about all I have, sounds like the rinse cycle is complete so time to move the U’wear to the dryer and probably do a load of shirts…such excitement.

Take care all.

{ absolutely cracks up }
I did mean that ^^ portion quite literally, but as for the rest, you may let your mind wander into the gutter.

Yeah, like this crowd ever leaves the gutter…

Mowage achieved. After much suffering. I just got the push mower back from the small engine shop, it worked a champ. The riding mower made most of the way around the yard, then decided it didn’t want to go anymore. Ever push a riding mower up a slope? I gave up for a couple hours and it re-started enough to get it back into the garage.

shoe Mmmm dumplings.

I laundered. I went out and bought cat food. There was a GSD rescue there. One of them took a treat from me, then tried to nom my thumb. Several of them thought the cat food(Nutro Indoor Cat chicken and brown rice) was “indoor chicken food”. A lady I knew was there. She’s a tinfoil hat nutter, and Ava the GSD she was fostering was a couple of fries short of a Happy Meal, too. Spot and I napped. Having a French 75, and watching handegg.

On vacation? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I’d like to climb up there one day.

Howdy Y’all! Been a day of highest sloth here at da cave. We spent about three hours at the cee-mint pond before comin’ in due to the excessive heat. Shower and nappage was then achieved. We’ve both et and are now happy to chill in the a/c. Oh and we did accomplish day drinkin’ lest y’all think us slackers.

Why would I ever want to leave the gutter! It’s nice and cool down here.

Yes, if one wants to get up to The Mountain AND find parking at the trailheads. It becomes very peoply up there, especially on the weekends. I fear my park and mountain are being loved to death.

It’s become even worse since COVID. I miss being able to find solitude there. There are some trails where that is possible, but I am not in the appropriate shape for them at the moment.

Had to run out to get more work clothing for DH (what he had was pretty beat-up, and the email he got from the staffing service said this was a rather higher-end working environment than the typical construction site). Such fun running errands by car when the lower digestive system is unhappy. DH has been advised he’ll probably have to do any further in-person errands on his own, since I should stay near the “reading room”. Also had to place a grocery order.

Multiple loads of laundry are also on tap for the weekend. When DH is working, he has to run a load of his work clothes every other workday (he favors long-sleeved shirts and heavy-duty cargo pants. Two days of this fill our rather small washer). My stuff can accumulate for most of the week (I can usually get a few smaller pieces in with one of DH’s loads), and the load of whites (underwear, socks, and such) gets to a reasonable size in a week (we each have 10 days of such items). Towels tend to be on either a weekly or if-needed scheme, sheets are as-needed.

Re-awakening the duck and cover hijack. …

Like most of us of that certain age I sure remember those drills in elementary school. I also remember the civil defense logo and fallout shelter logo on lots of large public and private buildings. Most of which had disappeared by the time I started college in '76.

At your vintage, was one of them the likelihood of going to southeast Asia?

Are you methodically going through the Mr. Boston guide?

The oil is changed, but it took a couple of hours. :open_mouth: There was a heck of a storm while I was in there that knocked power out in the town. The dealership had a generator, but getting wifi back up to do some things, as well as take payment took a bit longer. There were tornadoes between there and home, so I really wanted to get out of there, pick up my Marketplace purchase and get my butt home. I really didn’t want to be that close to the showroom with all of that glass if it hit there.

104°F expected tomorrow, 108 later this week. We’re living in Kim Stanley Robinson’s The Ministry for the Future.

I feel your pain. Thankfully, Mom has gotten into the habit of calling me if something sounds iffy and the results of my research usually always piss me off.

Hubs has gotten Mom’s car scheduled for repair next week. She was able to send him pics showing much of the damage so he could discuss it in auto-body repair speak. The shop will inspect it to be sure that it is safe to drive and then order parts with our credit card as a guarantee that Mom will go back there to get it fixed. Once she turns her car in for repairs, they will bill her insurance, our card will only be billed if she doesn’t show up. That is reasonable, hubs asked for special favors and knows how the business works.

Pilot, hubs hated doing any sort of car work for friends simply because he was a professional Auto Body Repair Technician and owned tens of thousands of dollars in tools to prove it. Of course, all of his tools were safely locked up at the shop and not available for side work on a moment’s notice, and he didn’t have the compressors and lifts and covered air conditioned work areas at home so was forced to sweat over hand tools like he was some sort of Joe Bondo.

OTOH, if his friends wanted help with guns or harley’s, Hubs has those tools and work areas at hand and has always been more than willing to do whatever was needed.

I understand where he is coming from, but I also understand that friends like to do friendly favors for each other. Whatever.

I put the sink strainer in the disposal hole to stop food from getting in the disposal and getting stinky. Today I pealed nectarines and when I went to dump the peals in the trash, the little knob on the strainer came off. FML.

I mashed up two of the nectarines and diced the other two and put it in a no-bake egg custard and it is way too sweet with not enough fruit flavor. I think it would have worked better if I had layered everything instead. Or roasted the nectarines and added lemon juice. Hmmmm. Anyhow, I don’t recommend pretending nectarines are bananas when adding them to custard, my recipe only got 1 star from me and that was because the custard was perfect before I ruined it.

Aren’t you just too cute for words!!!

Word.

You have much sympathy!
