(Old) Laundry Day in the MMP

Except our humans aren’t nearly as perfectable as his were, and there never will be a Ministry charged with protecting our semi-imaginary future from our oh-so-greedy present.

It’s a good thing I put on some pants.

After 45 minutes of lawn-mowing, and a shower, we headed off to town for some cat litter and cat food. On the way home, The Missus suggested we go to Paso del Norte for some margaritas and ‘dinner’ (it was not even 14:30 yet). Fortunately, I’d put on some jeans, and aloha shirt, and my chukka boots.

We got our margaritas, and I had an order of hot wings. We both ordered taco salads (picadillo for me, and ground beef for Mi Esposa). Unfortunately, the power on the block went out. So we had margaritas (2 each), chips and salsa, and I had hot wings. No taco salads. The restaurant will call when the power comes back on to settle the bill.

I’m not sure what pants have to do with it. But that sounds like a fun adventure even if only you got a hot semi-lunch out of it.

I tell you, not being able to get on the internet these days makes one feel so islated from the world.

Happy Saturday!

I haven’t been outside since this morning, but it must be hot because I can feel the heat when the dogs come in.

Yesterday and today have been days of sloth.

I got a loaner car yesterday, a Kia Sorento, which is pretty nice. Picking that up was the only thing I did, and I forgot to pick up my scripts on the way home. Well, I irked for 3 hours.
Today I slept in until 8, fooled around not doing anything, ordered pizza (we got a free one), and fell asleep until about an hour ago. I have to log in to irk at 4.
We wonder if we can get pizza delivery at the new place?

No no no to mushrooms. On anything.
You can load up my pizza with green peppers and onions, though.
We always get separate pizzas here. We could eat the same one if I left off the veggies. My son likes extra cheese and his two toppings are other cheeses. I don’t care for all that cheese, but I could eat it. We’ve always done separate though, and I always order enough for the next day anyway.

I don’t know if something is wrong with me, or I just need sleep.

I haven’t received any of the estate yet. The stock transfer was supposed to be done last week. The checks should have been here already.

Now there are two new items to add to the list.
There was a security breach on one of the accounts my son inherited from my mother. He has to sign up for something for that.
Then I realized my son needs a will, or a trust. I thought my sister would inherit his estate, and neither of us wants that, but I looked it up and his paternal grandparents, that he hardly knows, are next in line.
Unless my son gets married or has children, this is how it goes.

My son had to get a cab home yesterday morning.
He got off a little after 3, so I called the cab company to find they don’t open until 4, even though their website says open 24 hours. I looked up other cab companies, all of whom said they are open 24 hours, to see that all of them were closed and would open at 4.

We had air raid drills in school. We had to go out in the hall, kneel by our locker and cover our heads. We never had them in Catholic school, but the basement of the school had signs saying it was an air raid shelter. I guess we would have been herded down there.

I went to a high school that had 5 buildings. One day we had a fire drill and we all got up and left the building to stand outside. I saw two older guys I knew and talked with them a bit. At that time, we had an open campus and anybody could come and go.
The next day I told my friends that I had seen so and so during the fire drill. They said, what fire drill? I said the one at whatever period it was, and they said we didn’t have a fire drill.
This was during my ‘hazy’ high school days and I thought, I know I got up, walked out of the classroom, went outside, talked to so and so, and came back to class. Did I just do this on my own and there wasn’t a fire drill?
When I got to that class, I asked the guy who sat next to me if we had had a fire drill the day before. He said yeah, why? I told him I knew I had left class, but everybody was telling me there was no fire drill.
That is when we found out that each building could have their own fire drills.

I hope your kids had a good first week of school, RealFish.
The kids here don’t start until the 28th.

I’m glad your new job seems to be working out well, Nettie

Swampy, when I lived in the city, my elderly (in his 80s) neighbor used to go out and mow about a 5th of the yard. The next day, he’d do about another 5th. He was mowing for more days than not, but he only did what he could do and did the rest later. They had a pretty big yard for the city, I think they had a double or triple lot.

Patio doors are a wonderful thing when they irk correctly, WetOne. Enjoy the new one.

Pilot, do you get a lot of mosquitoes when you balconate? I try to sit outside with the pups and I get eaten alive. My neighbor put up some kind of lantern trap for the skeeters. It seemed to be irking for a while, but not anymore. Or maybe it doesn’t irk on the ones that stay close to the ground.
Nice pics and video,
Flying through the clouds looks scary. I’m not sure I could do that.

MRSA sounds awful, I hope they recover well, FCM
Very adorable grandson.

I never thought you were whining Cookie.
If you have hair, watch out for telogen effluvium. After my last surgery, my hair was falling out so fast I thought I’d be bald. It’s temporary.
I agree that Cookie and water should not mix.

Glad your apartment woes have been handled Red, and yuk on getting up at 330am.
Those cards are very nice, very pretty and professional looking.

Happy Vacationing Doggio
I guess it’s over by now?

Welcome back Nellie
Yes, we missed you
Good luck with your knee
My son is a bit closer than 6 months ago to getting his license. We would have enough of the estate left over to pay cash for a car. We’re really not getting that much money, the house we are buying is not expensive, and his car would probably not be expensive either. He doesn’t care about such things, I have a truck, so he only needs something small to take him around town.
He is giving me a fit about a riding mower. I told him there is no way he is using a push mower on 1/3 acre, and a weed whacker isn’t going to work either.
Well, maybe let him push a mower for a few times and he will change his mind.

I will talk to TD Ameritrade about the TOD, CatGlove, thank you. I’m fine with putting my son on all my accounts, but I wonder if TOD may have benefits over joint owners.

JtC, I am thinking of getting a water bed. Or getting some kind of frame for the air mattress.
I may try your way of making lemonade. When I’m not so lazy, I usually make it one glass at a time. I fit the lemon juicer over the glass, juice half the lemon, add cold water and sugar, and stir. It’s probably all in my head, but I like fresh lemonade and if it sits a while, it tastes off to me.
Your way sounds easier.
I would love for you to swing your cane at certain family members.
I am getting very very tired of the bullshit with them.
I’m contacting the lawyer on Moinday.

Many years ago, when I was pregnant, I had friends yell at me for not letting them help me. They told me I was selfish for not giving them the opportunity to help me when I had done so much for them.
It stuck with me that sometimes you have to let other people feel good for helping a friend.

New phones are a PITA, Wheelie
Transferring all the crap is a bigger PITA.

Wow, MetalMouse
Sorry for the bad news. I’m so glad I don’t have to get a rental, but I think that is only because my truck is still under warranty. If it were me, I would bump up the time line on getting a new car. That is me though, and I’m not always sensible about money.

Scammers are everywhere Vroom
I hate them, and wish miserable deaths for all of them.

Congrats Kitap

My toilet did the same Shoe, only mine had plastic bolts that were just impossible to tighten.
I am lucky the powder room is small because when the seat slid across the toilet, I went up against the wall instead of onto the floor.
I got a new toilet seat, and got a taller one while I was at it. It’s much easier on my knees.

Sounds like you had a nice visit Dicey!

Glad you enjoyed your hike Taters.
I’m sure your yard is beautiful.
I wish I had your drive for yard irk, but I don’t. Everything that is intentional dies anyway.

Much of my day has been catching up here!
I didn’t get much else done, I didn’t even look at the list.
I will be paying for that tomorrow when I have only one day to get stuff done. Moonday I have a doctor appointment, which I wish I had rescheduled.

I get off irk in 15 minutes or so.

The GR are still growing and entering into a bit of a bratty stage.
Their personalities are developing, but nothing is static. Rayleigh was my Velcro pup for a while, now Misiu is hanging all over me. Misiu wants so badly to sit in my lap and he is too big for that. Echo is a little depressed, I think. We haven’t been consistent with going to the park, but even then, she is sad. Our group is basically gone and I know she misses her friends and her people. Lucy dad has two weeks until he can drive, and I know she will be excited to see him. He is her favorite person.

Irk is done!

Paso del Norte called. I think they only charged us for two drinks. Anyway, the bill is paid and I left a 20% tip.

I’m on the 8th floor. We get a very few up there. Being at ground level at dawn or dusk around here mosquitos are a much larger problem for much of the year.

It’s a skill for sure. Once used to the idea, flying through clouds is no big deal. Flying through clouds with nearby mountains in them is a whole 'nuther level of concerning.

My late first wife was an estate attorney. TOD is far superior to joint ownership. Do NOT do joint for material amounts of money.

If he gets in a car crash and all your money is joint with him, then all your money can be taken in the lawsuit against him. If your money is separately yours but TOD to him then nobody attacking him can touch your money. That’s just the most obvious difference / advantage. There are many more.

Since you share a household, a joint checking account with a month’s worth of living expenses in it is a fine thing to share. But nothing more. It’s just not smart.

Evening all. In keeping with the title of this week’s MMP, today was Laundry Day, I now have a full drawer of clean underwear and a full closet of clean shirts. Tomorrow might be another Laundry Day, that one for Jeans and Towels…we’ll see. Nappage was achieved and Big Bowl of Salad has been consumed, so just some internettin’ and readin’ until I get tired again.

Sari, you do get your money’s worth from your posts; hope the checks and stock show up soon, given the…interesting…family relationships, I’d be wanting the money in the bank at the soonest. We’ll see about the car, this is the first major problem in 6 years/60,000 miles so I think I’ll keep it until/unless another issue occurs.

VanGo, pushing a riding mower sounds too much like work; glad you were able to finish up the lawn.

Nettie, been there, had my digestive system growl at me too. And yeah, it’s my ‘reading room’ too.

red, we caught clouds today, but no rain; sounds like it stayed North to torment Tennesseans…

suzie, haven’t read that book, but anything over 100F is hot.

Absolutely. When I had my vacation in Antarctica, I had to fly into a town called Ushaisa, which is way in the south of Argentina. Heading in (with large hills/small mountains everywhere, we hit clouds and couldn’t see anything until we got below them (about 90 seconds from landing). Wasn’t as worried crossing the Drake Passage or riding Zodiacs to the beach as much as I was those 6-8 minutes on the approach.

OK, 8pm so back to the regularly scheduled evening sloth. Take care all.

Having a Mint Julip while Spot snoozes on the couch.

[Guinness ad]BRILLIANT![/Guinness ad]
But next up is the Mexican Firing Squad

Tomorrow is the last day, since I had zero in lottery winnings this week.

That was three days of posts in one post.
I should probably do more frequent but smaller posts.

I feel bad that I don’t respond to posts that I want to because I start posting and get distracted and come back and forget, then go back and read again, then get distracted again.

Today I made the effort to try to catch up and be polite and respond.

You did beautifully. We all love you just the way you post. Good luck with all your tribulations.

@doggio that cartoon is a perennial industry favorite. Whole lotta pilots have a copy stashed somewhere.

Don’t feel bad, sari! What pilot said!! :two_hearts:

Tonight’s live jazz was awesome, as expected! Turns out I knew the drummer and bass player on the hit, and I got to chat with them at the bar a little before the show started. I got there at around 6:15 and thought I might be super early, but the place was packed! Luckily, all of the bar seats were still available. That’s my preferred seating when I’m there alone. It’s a small club, and the seats at the tables are all tightly packed together: the bar area at the back is a little raised, and for my money those 6-7 stools are the best seats in the house. Great view, a little breathing room, and the service is better because the bartender is always right there (it might be a minute before she can get to you, but it’s faster than having to wait for your server to make it back to your table). Plus, the musicians often hang out at the bar before/after the shows.

Despite the great music there was no compelling reason for me to stay for the second show, so I didn’t. I pulled into my driveway at 8:46pm, but didn’t walk into the house until 8:47pm because I sat in the car for a minute to finish singing along with “This Kiss.” I took the dog out, got changed, took my contact lenses out, and wiped the concealer off my face, and by 9:05pm I was on the couch in my jammies, with the slice of cheesecake I’d gotten to go, watching the last episode of a docuseries I’d started in the afternoon. Made me feel kinda old, but I’m happy so whatevs.

I just called Mom and she didn’t want to talk to me because she was counting, damnit!

I’m so happy. I was super worried when she stopped stitching and lost interest in even talking about it, but now she’s back at it and I’m super happy.

Waves at sari I like it that you try to reply to everyone no matter how long it takes.

You are talking to someone who drove an hour down the mountain to hang out in a loud honky tonk bar just to check to dope on my phone.

I was at the age, but the wrong gender to assume that risk. However, Grandpa was a combat Marine (WWII), Dad was a combat Marine (Korea) and my older cousin was a combat Marine (early VN). They loved to get together and tell stories. I joined the Air Force because I’m smarter than the men in my family.

Yesterday, COC spent most of his day projectile vomiting. Now the other end is involved. If he makes it until Monday, he will be making that last vet trip.

He’s an old cat who started out rough. We gave him a good life for many years, but the damn fuzzbutts just don’t live long enough.

This is sad, but not unexpected. Le sigh.

Awww, I’m so sorry, Jane. It does always indeed suck very mightily.

Sorry, Jane.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and mostly clear (mostly moony?) with a predicted high of 96 and N.O.S. A heat advisory is also in effect. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization wherein I have Verger duty. After that we shall return to da cave to eat leftovers from Firday for N.O.L. This shall be followed by nappage, sloth, day drinkin’ and the general overall uselessness that is our wont.

JtC I am so sorry about COC. It sucks mightily but you gave him a wonderful and lovin’ home. He had a good life.

Sari hope the stock transfer and estate stuff gets done and over with soonest. It’s always good to hear from you. Glad the GR are thrivin’ and entertainin’. It’s fun to watch their personalities develop.

Oopsie glad you had a good time at the jazz thing. Also, cheesecake and sofa sound like a good time to me!

Pilot my elementary skool was a CD shelter. I seem to recall most of the skool buildin’s bein CD shelters back in the day. By the time I entered college (fall of ‘72, I am freakin’ old!) most of those signs were either very faded or gone.

CupCakes glad you are once again connected to teh intartoobz,

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Last day of vacation. I shall sloth the day awayclean and do some laundry(heets and Underoos). It’s supposed to be 98 with a Heat Index of 105+. That should make my return to work somewhat unpleasant.

{{{{Jane ,GG ,VBC, COC}}}} I hate this part of being a pet parent.

Getting up at 0330 would be sleeping in for the irk week. I have to be on the job at that ungodly hour.

Fortunately, there was no damage when I got home. Lavergne, the next town over had some tree damage though.

I’m so sorry about COC JtC. You’re right, they just don’t live as long as we wish they would. Hugs to you, hubby, VBC and GG.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, Sunday dinner (mojo poke, black beans and cilantro-lime slaw) in the crocks and fridge and fixing to do KP. Not a lot on the slate today except meal prep and sloth.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Bingo. For me it was let the Army draft me or join the Navy (the AF had a “all full up” sign out at that point unless your daddy was rich). I knew where most draftees (and Marines) ended up and wanted no part of people shooting at me.

Oh, I ended up there anyway, but not slogging through rice paddies or fending off screaming hoards of NVA soldiers. I thought the Navy would be relatively safe, but didn’t understand that Seabees are shore-based folks, so “Goodbye my darlin’, hello Vietnam.”
