(Old) Laundry Day in the MMP

I’m so sorry. I’ve had smart cats in the past. They were always super sweet, but what a PITA.

We have a “good things” cabinet in the pantry that has a squeaky hinge. That is where the kitty food, treats and spare toys are kept and everyone knows what that sound means. Three nights ago, GG (or some kitty) managed to reach up and open the cabinet and jumped in and had a wonderful time while we were sleeping. He has since forgotten how to open the cabinet despite remembering that it is the good things cabinet.

We would have had to put a hasp on the cabinet if Freeloader was still around. (I still miss that lil black drama queen.)

It’s a really good thing that we love them isn’t it.

Hehehehe.

Le sigh. Ten-fifteen years ago, hubs would have been able to do it with no problems.

I can see hubs’ point, it is rude to expect a professional to give up their precious free time to do something we could easily pay for. However, I also remember wanting to do things for people who were helping us out and/or good friends and I’m slightly concerned that if we do pay someone to do it, BFF’s hub will find out (there ain’t nothing like small town gossip) and think that we didn’t trust him to do it.

Hurray, I hope you love it!

Today was surplus produce and we got cherry tomatoes, which I would usually snub this time of year, but my cherry tomatoes are really suffering from the heat. We also got grapes and nectarines and big heads of romaine lettuce. NF said she would take some of everything and I will take the extra stuff to give away at Tai-chi. One of the other students has said she would like to get her own boxes, but her husband doesn’t want her to do it because “we can afford our own food”, so I know she will take it. I hope.

I had a nice chat with Mom last night, she has finally rested up from my visit (she did say I was wearing her out, LOL!) and is now trying to schedule getting her car fixed. My sister broke some things off the car so it could be driven (not really sure how safely) and all of the auto body repair shops are booked out for months. Hubs says he will make some calls tomorrow, he still knows folks in the biz and he knows how things work. Fingers crossed that he can get things going for her.

I really did miss all of you a whole bunch. I took my tablet with me but had issues with it. I had an appointment with the retinal specialist this morning. He said retina looks good, but I’m starting to get blood vessel growth into the cornea. This is an issue because it makes rejection of the graft more likely. I’ve been down this road before and am not too worried, but he was relieved I’m seeing corneal doc next week.

I also got shots. I took Uber home because it was raining and my knee was cranky. This was the third Uber Tesla. I used to think they were cool before ol’ Elon went all twitterpated.

I’m awaiting my grocery order. I was out of almost everything, so it’s a big order.

shoe, that sounds like a very painful burn. I’m impressed you got over the natural wariness of ovens. Also, interesting stuff about pizza bubbles!

Clever, Mr. Canine Staff, very clever. I tip my imaginary hat to you. (It’s a Carmen Miranda fruit hat.)

I empathize. This is how I am about technology in general.

Here in the south, keeping the little boogers warm in the winter (as well as getting them there if there are more than 3 flakes of snow) is more of a challenge than keeping them cool in early August.

A mouse with wings! Maybe he does have a prey drive.

{{{FairyChats}}} If MRSA is picked up from your MIL’s apartment complex or church, it’s community acquired. However, both she and FCD have been in / around hospitals recently, so it may be hospital acquired. Either one can be nasty to deal with, so I hope it’s just a typical staph infection (far more treatable). This is from a veteran of hospital acquired when in for another issue.

Welcome back nellie! Sure missed you. I’m glad that you enjoyed your vacation despite the bad things that happened.

What?!?!!! swampy’s gay?!?!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Irked, came home in the rain, put Nelson’s ducky slicker on to walk him, et, took a nap and did a couple of things in the studio. I’m looking forward to having tomorrow off, even though it’s supposed to rain (so much for the dog park and going out on the bike if it does).

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

So I had an impromptu Dopefest with Pilot this afternoon. Beers were swill, stories were told, havoc was wreaked(in spite of another crew swiping his plane, and the Lyft app dropping him at the other Lynnwood in town).

Carmen Kia approves.

He figured out that The Red Dot lives in the laser pointer.

: crosses fingers :

You are so screwed!!!

Oh very cool! I’ve only met one doper f2f, it was a bunch of fun.

Naaah! He just tells us that to be cool. He’s actually a middle-aged woman who braids welcome mats from WalMart bags, then leaves them on random front porches in Fargo, ND. The whole Jawja thing is a hoax, too. Pathetic, really…

And on that note, I need sleep. MWAH!

Man, I love “early out” shifts. Got out in time to stop for some chicken thighs and N.O.T.s (the lil bitty yellow kind) so I can bake up a nice dinner. Got to chill outside as dusk settled into twilight, listened to the frogs, and yes, saw the pair of bats that I think roost in the big tree next door set out on their breakfast quest.

Of COURSE Monkey wandered off. He does this routinely whenever I let him go out at twilight. He has a collar & jingle-bell and always wanders on back, so I tell myself not to worry. Pisses me off that he just doesn’t come when called, though - any other time he always jogs on back.

Well, I’ll listen for him while I prep dinner. Damn fool cat.

Happy Wednesday

Read a lot, retaining little, sorry

Another messy day.

Picked the dogs up from daycare, started to drive home and I thought the truck felt funny.
The check engine light is on. Then a bunch of lights came on and the screen was flashing something about checking my 4wd (which I wasn’t using) and something about pulling a trailer, and check the esc? something. The engine was losing power, the power steering went out.
I thought I could drive if home but not a good idea I think.
My son called his job to let them know he’d be late.
I called his boss, but she had already heard and was calling me.
A friend came and got my son and dogs and took them home.
I called the dealership and let them know I was bringing it in. The gave me some tow truck numbers, but then I remembered I have roadside service with AT&T
I finally got through the app, which was frustrating. Especially when the shop I wanted wasn’t listed as a destination point.
They said it’d be an hour for the truck.
My friend said she’d come back and sit with me.
Then the tow truck driver called and said he’d be there in 30 minutes, and then asked me why I wanted to take it to place A. I said I didn’t, but place B wasn’t an option. He said that made more sense and he would take it there. I could leave the key under the mat and not wait.
I said what if somebody tries to steal it, and then I thought, they won’t get very far.

So my son is getting a point for missing irk, 6 points and you get fired.
If he had gone in late, it would have been a quarter of a point, but then I would be dealing with getting him home with no idea of what time he will get off irk.

I’m frazzled.

Sari, sorry to hear about your car problems. Mine goes in for a cylinder misfire tomorrow, hoping it’s just a bad sparkplug or coil, but we’ll see. Place opens at 7:30am so I want to try and get there early. May have to Uber back and forth.

nellie, hope the eyes have it…as in fewer problems. And of course you know that doggio typed that modestly…

red, concur, the schools here are all Air-conditioned, but I’m not sure how heat-resistant they are…

doggio, glad you and Pilot were able to meetup. I’ll be in Miami early November pre-cruise, but will be with a bunch of other friends, so don’t know how that will work out.

Rain has passed on for now, but some strong storms are due around 1-2am, so sleeping may be an adventure. At least it has cooled down considerably, it’s 71F outside heading for the mid-60’s to the AC gets the night off.

Oh, remember a couple weeks ago when I gave up my seat in Atlanta and got $800 in compensation? Just checked the gift cards and I have a grand total of $11 left. So even if it cost me an evening in a hotel in Atlanta and 5 hours sleep between flights, I think I got my money’s worth.

OK, need to head off to bed early so I can be up and ready to roll tomorrow. Take care all.

The prodigal son has returned. He’s been relieved of his jingle-bell and even given some crunchy treats to remind him of why Home Is Awesome.

A pair of thighs (snerk) is roasting atop taters and various allium - it turned into “clear out root basket” night, cuz some of those onions were about to become sentient.

I also have some lettuce and cilantro, in case there’s enough leftover meat to make spring rolls, maybe tomorrow.

… speaking of, am trying to get Gentleman Caller to visit, and threw in the bribe of dinner if he can make it out here tomorrow.

Have turned off Coolio and my fans, despite the oven being on, because I just can’t get enough of those tree frogs and crickets chirping! I’m sure I’ll succumb to the heat soon enough.

So judging how Spot attacked me for my meatballs and tortellini tonight, he’s part Italian.

I’ve met a bunch, always fun.

{{{{sari}}}}

Morning, mumpers! It’s 19c/67f with a predicted high of 26c/78f, and mostly sunny. Weather app tells me that “The fucking sun will shine out of your ass today.” I sincerely hope not! Also, zero chance of rain, and 89% humidity. That will be a hot and sticky walk home tonight then.

{{{{{sari}}}}}

nellie I’m sorry to hear about the eye problems, I hope they can fix something for you.

doggio how fab that you managed to meet up with pilot! I’m waiting for find out where 'im indoors is planning our next trip in case there is a proximity to Dopers

Mooom - did you manage to wrangle FCD and his meds? It’s such a shame about MIL but I understand her feelings too, when mum was alive there were a few people where she lived who were in the same situation. Life without their life partner just wasn’t worth it for them, and sadly some of them went very quickly afterwards.

shoe glad to hear the burn is healing and you are back to fighting the ovens! Let’s hope GC is suitably sympathetic

Last night was fun, I walked back via the vets to collect Shadow’s meds and then had a burst of activity at home (prepared three meals, ate one of them) and washed my hair before going out with a couple of friends. The pub we went to is an old Grade II listed Victorian building, lots of character and very railway-themed.

Busy morning too, but at least the commute to campus was relatively quiet and easy today.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 78 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 96 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is to take care of candle duty and other stuff over to the church house, after which we shall be bears who brunch at Eggs Up Grille. Doin’ this today because tomorrow I get to wait on a ‘script to be delivered via FedEx, so need to be at da cave for that, whenever it shows up. Usually it shows up late mornin’, so I can hope for that. The rest of today shall be spent in the usual sloth and general overall uselessness that is our wont.

MOOOOOOM I thought my secret was safe with you! Why did you out me! I’ll be the laughin’stock of Fargo now! OH WOE!

doggio and Pilot glad y’all got to meet up.

sari hope the truck woes are not an expesensive fix.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Oh bother!

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Yeah, he’s actually been very good about it. He just left for another day at the school and I set an alarm on his phone to remind him of his next dose, which I put in a little baggie for him. It helps that the meds seem to be working.

If the forecast is to be believed, it’s gonna rain all day. So no playground with the kids. Thank goodness for the basement! They can run almost completely amok without hurting themselves or anything else. I just need to figure out lunch.

Looks like FCD will be teaching math for a short time. The math teacher Daughter thought she had lined up never did get back to her. She has another, but she’s on maternity leave for a few more weeks, so FCD will cover in the interim. Which means he needs to attend the Active Shooter training (HOLY CRAP!!) on Firday. Better safe than sorry, I suppose, but the school is in the same group of buildings that includes MD state troopers and the county Sheriff - that would have to be one stoopit shooter! Then again, aren’t they all?

Remember the good ol’ days when all we had were fire drills? Tho FCD told me he actually had duck-and-cover. They didn’t do that at my school. Anyway…

Soggy, boring day ahead. Happy Thursday!!

I remember duck and cover drills from the cold war days of my childhood. I was in Catholic School so we crouched under our desks and prayed the rosary. My grade school was about seven miles as the crow flies from SAC headquarters. We would have never even seen the flash.

All I remember at our school (also Catholic) was the Fallout Shelter sign at the entrance to the church basement (where the 3rd grade classrooms were.) But despite being just a bit north of DC, we never had to duck and cover.

Morning all. The rains came as predicted at about 2am and brought along enough lightning and thunder to make sleep problematical until 4am. Managed to sleep (well, stay in bed) until 6am then up. Still rain and the Weather Wizards say it will continue to until around 10am, so basically we are one soggy N. Ali-bama this morning. Need to get dressed here in a few minutes (and find my umbrella) and head to the car shop to get the cylinder worked on, and we’ll decide on the rest of the day depending how that goes.

I can remember a couple duck and cover drills from my youth, but nothing special. As for fire drills, I think 1-2 a year was standard. Only place I ever worried about a fire was teaching in Cleveland, the school had 600+ students and only one entrance…

shoe, so you had a pair of thighs last night and hope to have a pair of thighs tomorrow if I understand you right (wink, wink, nudge nudge…)

OK, need to get ready and head off. Hope some Uber drivers don’t mind the rain.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Spot has been fed. I need to go to the grocery store(it’s senior day!), and the likker sto. A big bunch of storms are rolling in, hope Pilot gets out before they hit.

MUCH better today. Took an Aleve last night to calm down the yips, conked out about 7:30 and slept in 2-3 hour chunks until 0730 this morning. Even made breakfast as a little thankyou gift for the wife, who is struggling with her own knee issues.

Heh. You put drugs into a baggie.

What kind of math? Or, perhaps a better question: which grade(s)?

Have you posted this exact sentence previously, or am I having deja vu?

That has GOT to be a code violation.

{ clutches pearls }

Who, meeee?

That is terrific! Now, go take a nap.
