(Old) Mad March Hares in the MMP

I walked around last night changing all the clocks. A few of them change themselves, because they’re tied in to, um, something or other.

Breakfast calls, see you later.

Good morning.

It’s 43F and mostly cloudy in the morning, with occasional rain in the afternoon and a high temperature of 55F. An atmospheric river is moving in this week, and there is even a chance of very wet snow down at the 1000-foot level at the end of the week.

Well, I’m going to gripe about DST. I don’t like it, period. However, all my clocks except for the microwave and oven, reset themselves. Then again, I don’t have many clocks in the house. My alarm clock, the microwave, the stove, and that’s it. My cell and Fitbit, as do my Jeep and my husband’s car, automatically change.

Doggio, keeping my fingers crossed for you and your roommate.

Wetone, yay for being back up in the saddle and closer to riding Ariel.

I don’t have much on the agenda today. I have some chores to do, and I am mentally preparing for work tomorrow. I need to finish my coffee and get myself cleaned up, though. I need to obtain fuel for the Jeep in preparation for the commute this coming week.

I buy these at a local grocery year-round. No roasting and peeling required and they’re great on scrambled eggs or in green chili stew.

If you have Sonic in the area, order it as a Frito pie.

Growing up, Indiana didn’t, unless you were in Lake County (Chicago suburb), Starke County (contrarians) or Clark County (Louisville suburb). Everywhere else kept the same time year round. A few years ago, they went to Eastern time and observed DST.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do Sunday chores.

I reset clocks last night. The one in the living room is dead easy, just one click to change the hour. The microwave and my alarm clock (I can see it without my glasses, unlike my phone) are pretty easy as well. The analog in the kitchen is self-explanatory. The one in the car stays on the same time until the battery is disconnected for whatever reason.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

WORRIES!!!

I heard there was a riot happening at the college and got sad because I wasn’t there but happy because that meant people were actually getting upset about the orange menace.

Yeah, no. It’s fake Patty’s Day and one of the frat houses didn’t get a permit for their party so the cops tried to arrest someone and a couple of the frats shot at the cops with paintball guns. Things went downhill from there.

So don’t be getting all excited and happy for me if you read about it, it’s just another drunk college student story.

We are looking at warmer temps than you, it will be so nice to be able to open the windows and get some fresh air in. It will be good for my baby tree too, it likes going outside to soak up the sun.

I didn’t change any clocks last night because I didn’t know which ones would do it themselves and I’m lazy. It worked, the only clock that didn’t change was the microwave and my car. But…because I’m so lazy, I didn’t change it last time the clocks changed so it is right now as well.

One of the last things I bought on Amazon was a grow light. It worked fine for four months and now won’t turn on. Of course it is past the return window and it was a cheap piece of Chinese crap anyhow so I don’t expect my email to the manufacturer to do anything. We have a shopping trip in Charleston planned for a couple of weeks and I should be able to find another one there.

(Yes I have already looked to see what I could find in town, and the only place is Walmart and I’ll toss my tree in the trash before buying anything from them.)

I moved the tree next to the french doors and GG has already been over to investigate and put a leaf in his mouth. Someday he will learn that lemon leaves taste nasty but it hasn’t registered yet.

Good morning all. Got my 7.5 hours of sleep so think I am adjusted to the change in time. Have picked up my Sunday NT Times and will head to the Texas Roadhouse in a couple of hours, but that is the entirety of my plans for the day. Clear right now but a threat of rain in the early afternoon, so we’ll see. Only getting to the mid-50’sF today but warmer weather is promised for the new week.

Now see if I can catch up with the last 35 or so messages…

I take my car through the car wash every couple of months, keeping it in my garage and not being on the road that much tends to keep it relatively clean. We have so many drive-though car washes right around me that there is no problem finding one when I need it.

JtC, they actually had plenty of help managing the boys and girls, coach training was going on at the same time so plenty of adult supervision, plus they only had 20-30 kids, the parents and players are not quite into it yet, as the weather warms up I expect the numbers to explode. And $450 for a vacuum is a bit pricey, if I go that much it will be for a steam-type cleaner like FCM has.

wet one, glad you got a ride in, you’ll be back on Ariel in no time.

Nettie, just looked at that time/date site and I’m within about a minute or so on all my clocks, so yay me.

shoe, hooray for a short night,

Thanks for the laugh this morning. And I think it’s ‘couth’

Piper, thank you, it gets a little sore if I do to much and I probably touch myself there more than is decent in making sure everything is staying in place, but seems to be a solid repair.

And I have caught up with yesterday, now on to today’s news and views…

Happy Vergering, Swampy

FCM, my kitchen stuff is just press ‘clock’, input the time and press ‘clock’ again. Reset my car this morning and my alarm clock/wristwatches last night, so I think I am all covered. Enjoy the great boat cleaning (not).

And I think I am caught up, so a good Sunday to all and I need to get the morning internetting done before dressing appropriately and heading off for my 11oz. Sirloin steak (medium, with salad and french fries). Have a good day all.

It was that way in the late 70s when I was at Purdue. It was weird when my TV shows moved from Eastern to Central time!

As soon as we’re past nighttime freezes, my spiders and the croton go out on the front porch. Maybe the pothos, too. According to long-range forecasts, I just might be able to do it next week… :crossed_fingers:

I found one more clock that I forgot about, but it’s a cheapie analog that sits next to my recliner - and it’s now set.

FCD took the trash and recycling to the convenience center - he said it was really crowded. He decided against wire work today - he had a bad night. I plan to take him to Texas Roadhouse to make up for it. (he voted yes) Poor baby… I took the last 3 bags of pellets off the pallet, then put the pallet outside. The pellet with the poison’s in the vessel with the pestle; the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true! Anyway, for now, the garage is semi-tidy. And the dishwasher is sloshing. How productive!

I thought you might be interested in sharing this link with names you might recognize. Just a little heads up sort of thing.

Too bad you aren’t closer or I would have bundled you up in the car and taken you with me! And good luck to your roommate - it is stressful times for far too many people right now :frowning:

My oven clock is the only clock in the house and it just about drove me crazy this morning. If you hold the up or down arrow for more than a second it starts jumping in 5 minute increments until it suddenly decides to start changing the hour instead. It took forever to get the damn thing set and I finally just gave in and pushed the up arrow 60 times.

Dang, metal mouse and FCM got me wanting Texas Roadhouse now…

I remembered about DST last night, but for the first time I can recall I didn’t change the clocks before I went to bed; I waited until this morning. Now the bathroom wall and radio clocks, the stove and microwave clocks, the clock on the piano, and the small clock I keep on my desk have all been upated. All that’s left are my three watches, which I’ll change as I wear.

I stumbled across a 2022 article about the history of DST: apparently, 50 years ago we tried not ending it. I was quite young at the time, but don’t remember ever even hearing about this.

I’d be all for trying it again: lots of things have changed since 1974, including improved outdoor lighting for kids going to school.

Last night was another bad sleep night. :face_with_bags_under_eyes: Sometimes my brain sabotages my rest, and sometimes my dog does – and, sometimes, it’s both: Bailey decided to have a bark-a-thon at 2:30am (I guess technically it was 3:30am), and just four hours later I woke up for good. It’s been over a week of this, with something happening every night. I’m tired of being tired. Heh. I’m hoping the stress/brain stuff will settle down this week, after I start doing actual work again and – hopefully – apply for one or two more internal positions.

In happy news I have dinner plans with my BFFs and their 23-year-old son (my “nephew”), who lives in TX with his girlfriend but is home for his college spring break. He got here on Wednesday and leaves in four days, so this will be my only chance to see him until his summer visit. It will also be my last chance to see WifeBFF before her shoulder replacement surgery on Tuesday. It’s supposed to hit 60°F today, and HusbandBFF is planning to grill steaks. Yum! In a couple hours I’ll check in with WifeBFF and see how she’s feeling so far today: her chronic health issues often flare up without warning, so it’s always understood that any plans with her are tentative until the day of.

Speaking of my nephew, I finished disassembling his Batwing yesterday! Before starting to put it together again, though, I decided to build the custome stone cottage set I got from my Bricks 'n Brews friends last weekend. It’s super cute except for the missing door, which I broke while attempting to snap it into place. :woman_facepalming:

I’ll get a replacement door sometime soon.

The purple group – the one they’ve labeled the “hardest” – is often just utterly ridiculous. My BFFs and I have taken to rating that group on a stupidity scale of 1-5 when we share our results with each other (e.g., “purple is a 3 today!”).

Ack, I forgot about the subscription thing! I pay for both Games and the digital version of the NYT. Sorry.

He didn’t have a list; it was definitely a conversation. I’d say the talking was mostly him telling me about the work (and the team, etc.), but he also asked about my background and there was plenty of back-and-forth when I asked some questions. And I took a few minutes near the end to volunteer that I’m genuinely interested in the position: I told him that as a hiring manager I know I’m always a little wary of candidates who are out of work, because I worry that they’re desperate and maybe not really interested in the job. I assured him that it’s still the early days of my search, I’m not applying for every little thing, and I’m sincerely excited about the opportunity. I think that resonated. :crossed_fingers:

HA! :joy:

I’ve had that site bookmarked for years! It seems like I’m always needing to figure out how many days there were between two dates, what a certain date plus x days would be, etc. I know Excel can do stuff like that, but the site’s interface is easier.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s a late check-in from me as I’ve only just got home. It’s currently 15c/59f with a predicted high of 17c/62f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Do you every wonder if the fucking clouds look down at us and think, what a bunch of fucking assholes?” No, can’t say that I do.

It’s such a yay and boo situation, I expect your brain is still trying to get to grips with everything. Very good news on continued work though!

My morning brain exercise is Wordle, Connections, Strands, Waffle and Hang Five. That’s enough to get my brain woken up  I tried the Spelling Bee and got frustrated as you don’t spell like I do!

Reading this makes me very happy for you

I very rarely get the purple ones at all - for me, they’re whatever’s left when I’ve solved the other three colours!

It’s been a busy weekend so far - we were a bit later leaving the house on Saturday than we’d planned but the traffic on the drive to Bradford wasn’t too bad. We arrived at 2.45pm, checked in at the hotel and went straight to Nightrain, getting there just as the first band were about to start at 3pm. It was well-organised with each band starting on the hour and playing for 30-40 minutes, allowing a bit of time to change stuff over on stage before the next band started. We did dip out in the evening to get some food but we’d seen a burger place nearby so we went there, got food fairly quickly and were back in good time.

The headline band were on at 9pm and did a great show, I even got a shout-out from the stage as the singer remembered it was my birthday the day before  We stayed for a chat with them after they’d finished, and I also had a natter with Adele who’s one of the organisers. Her husband is the guitarist in one of the bands that played too, I’ve known him for quite a long time.

Here’s the fun bit…Adele used to work for the local ambulance service and through work, she knows Di who runs Little Paws Cat Haven  She asked after Di, we had a chat about stuff, and she gave me and John a free event t-shirt as they hadn’t sold all of them and she said she didn’t want to take them home!

I ran a fundraiser for Little Paws on FB which I need to go and close now so that Di will get the money from that. Then I noticed that another friend who has a birthday later this week has started a fundraiser also for Little Paws so I was very excited to let Di know that she’ll be getting some extra funds from that too. Such a lovely message to send over to her

Now we are back home, the catsitter’s been to visit and the cats were totally unconcerned about us returning. I swear they like Jenni more than they like us. I’ve sent her payment over for this weekend, and she’s asked for a reference as she and her wife are planning to do some catsitting in Europe so they can travel and work at the same time. Definitely very happy to do that and say lovely things about her.

I have a couple of hours before I need to get dinner ready so I am going to head downstairs and do a bit of slothing.

Deadpig strips and cackleberries for breakfast. The Spousal Unit decided we’re not going to church today.

Put together by these guys

I came here to share something, but by the time I finished catching up, I forgot what it was. Stoopit brain. Anyway, we’ll head out in about 90 minutes for late lunch/early supper. Glad I didn’t pull anything out to thaw. Tho it could be saved for tomorrow.

No matter - I’m already drooling over the thought of yeast rolls.

We’re likely to hit 50F today, as spring weather does its best to confuse all of us. I’m putting off changing the clocks because it just annoys me to do so. But really, it has little effect on our lives as retirees. The only nuisance is adjusting to the change on exercise days so we can get breakfast eaten prior to start time. I usually get up at 0700 and we’re done with breakfast by 0830. Today it was 0930, which is when exercise starts. Third world suffering. We shall live through it.

Speaking of breaking fast, fried eggs and cornbread with honey.

Wordled, cross-worded, and most of the Spelling Bee at this point. As usual, the last few words are a misery.

Headed out for a walk soon.

Every spring and summer there’s some weather changes that’ll bring Sahara dust into Europe. When there’s more dust, we get orange-y skies for a few days. Last year was particularly bad:

Sad to see them go. My mom did a lot of sewing when I was little and we’d probably go to Joanne’s every few months. When I got married, we found the fabric for the bridesmaid’s dresses at Joanne’s.

Sounds great!

We just opened a bottle from Islay on Saturday. We’ll be staying with Tequila, scotch, Swedish vodka and probably some French stuff.

Bummer. My parents’ neighbor manages a Walgreens. :frowning:

It’s cute even without the door. And very welcoming, as it has an open door policy.

After cleaning the bathrooms, we went for an official walk. Weather’s weirdly warm, so I ended up carrying my light hoodie.

Had chili (with beans!) for lunch, then baked breakfast cookies (dried figs, cranberries and walnuts) and normal cookies (chocolate chunk oatmeal) and did some puttering around the house.

Got our first daffodil and hyacinths blooming. It’s not even the middle of March.

No clock changing here - we do that at the end of the month.

Found my vaccination card as tomorrow I’ll go get my third dose of the tick-borne encephalitis vaccine. Supposedly I should have protection against measles, but I might want to talk to my doctor about getting my blood tested.

Trash and recycling are out at the street, i’ve reset the nixie tube clock and my four watches, and the dishwasher is running.

Just wanted to brag that I finished it at 57 words, but it took forever to see “tamale”.

They sell them to go by the half-dozen….for Monday brekkies.

Current status: surviving but not thriving.

Yanking on clean socks, scooping up Car(e)less and heading on in.

Bright and sunny. Lots of motorcycle action in the 'hood today, guess folks are enjoying the weekend and false spring.

I just laid down to take a nap and woke up in a bit of a manic moment with a ‘great’ idea. I decided to let it sit for awhile before jumping into something I’d regret. Now I’m just sitting here with my favorite poodle on my lap.
