Nelson has puffy booties for the same reason, although I only subject him to them when it’s icy.
A less chaotic Monday today. Also, The Supreme Shouting Officer was absent. Coincidence? After work I went to Lowes and bought a microwave, then did my Aldi run. They were blown out of milk(apart from $4.19 organic milk or nut milk), so I picked up some at Food Lion.
< forgets to hit send >
Up from naptime( I dreamed I was driving through the cornfield to RDU airport to meet some Emir’s retinue, and his pitbull quit his job and came home with me) having an Old Fashioned and cheeseburger, and watching the Four Nations Faceoff.

That’s why I laugh at at the car loan offers I get. “So, you wanna go back into debt in uncertain economy?”
There’s been some sort of gathering at the shopping center across from work the last 2 Saturdays, with the speaker being very angry and passionate. My Spanish sucks, but there weren’t any red hats, so the speakers were probably right.
< takes a bow >
I agree that the bastard in office won’t do a damn thing to help us teeming masses. But I am proud of you for going out to show that we care.
Late night final here. Did go back to the gym to add another 500 calories to the debit column, I’m down to 195.8lb, actually that’s less than I want to weigh, need to start eating more and/or exercising less.
Is it still Moanday? Seems like it should be Tuesday or Wednesday already.
JtC, proud of you for going out, but I’m afraid it’s going to take more pain to finally get the numbers out that will make a difference. But you were there at the onset.
“It is hard to make things foolproof because fools are so ingenious…”
And just finished some miscellaneous munching, so catch y’all on 2sDay.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 2c/35f with a predicted high of 5c/41f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “You might think the fucking clouds are your friends, but they fucking aren’t.” It’s also sunny out there so only very slightly cloudy.
It’s an annual inspection on any vehicle over 3 years old, designed to make sure it’s roadworthy for the half hour it takes to inspect everything The inspection covers the exhaust and emissions, seat belts, steering, windscreen, bonnet catch, horn, number plate, lights, brakes, tyres and wheels, mirrors, doors, seats, suspension, fuel system, body and structure, battery and wiring. Mine cost £50, it failed, they fixed things, then they test it again for free and give you the certificate.
Congratulations! A weight off your mind, and a boost for the bank account, that’s a double winner.
VanGo that must have been some serious freezing! I hope the repair is not too complicated or costly.
That is a truly fabulous achievement, and exactly what I would have expected you to say
I’d be very proud of that too.
I’m glad you had such a good time, despite the minuses of the venue. Sounds like Bailey was really happy to be home too, that must have been fun to see.
Hope you feel better soon and the prescription stuff helps! If you’re freezing, you might need a hat…
That’s what matters, being there and showing up. Even if you feel it’s a waste of time because there weren’t any elected reps to see all of you, you know that the protest is the right thing to do. I think petting critters afterwards is a good way to end the day.
Yesterday was a funny kind of day, we are both still feeling a bit numb and kind of lost. The house feels strange without Shadow, and I keep looking out for him. 'im indoors changed his work week to be at home yesterday so he’s working Tuesday-Friday this week. I took him to the station last night to get his train, then remembered to haul the biiiiig bin out to the kerb for today’s recycling collection.
I am still signed off work for another week, my shoulder’s better but it was hurting a bit after I had to get the vacuum cleaner out to clean up the litter that Cherry decided to distribute around the floor here. I should try to do the rest of the carpets, I think I will be ok if I do them in stages and have a rest in between bits.
Todays’ other project will be the grocery shopping and working out how to pay for my car park charge from Sunday so I don’t get a £70 fine for a £1.50 parking fee. Stoopit system requires me to visit a website or app, but doesn’t give any option to pay for parking time already used, only to book for a future visit. Always something, right?
Up and ready to face my day, I guess. Last night we loaded the trash and recycling into my car. So after my podiatrist follow-up this morning, I’ll go to the convenience center nearest the Dr office, then scoot over to Food Lion for a few things, then home again. I need to call my internet provider because my account is screwed up and the on-line chat folks, while pleasant, just aren’t very helpful, but one of them did tell me how to reach a live person via phone. (I hate automated phone trees!!!)
I got an email telling me I need to pay the balance of our cruise by Feb 28, so I added that to my Outlook reminder. The first 10% was easy. The last 90% is due. So I’ll need to move some $$$ around to cover it. It’s weird - I build up our one savings account knowing things like this are coming, but when I have to pull the money out, I get a mild panic that suddenly the savings account is smaller. I dunno - my brain doesn’t do logical very well sometimes.
And I need to work out a pseudo-agenda for our Cades Cove/ashes-spreading trip so the kids aren’t bored out of their little minds. I wish it was just going to be FCD and me, but he wanted to ask the others, tho now he doesn’t want them there. He’s still dealing with losing his mom and Higgs - he keeps thinking he could have done more… Grief is a mysterious process.
Forecasts for tomorrow and Thurs range from a few flurries to less than half an inch to 3-6". I’m thinking Accuweather is using a weird model that needs to be calibrated. But I guess we’ll see tomorrow. Weirdly enough, I had a dream that the guy who brings his John Deere over to clear our driveway was literally shoveling our drive after a small amount snow. And he had a kid with him to help. I was trying to stay away from the windows so he’d think I wasn’t home and I wouldn’t have to pay him. So my sleeping brain isn’t very nice.
FCD drives me crazy when it comes to money - specifically how he rounds amounts. I’m keeping a spreadsheet to track what the fuel tanks are costing. He told me he ordered some parts from a specific company and it was “around $500.” Well, the charge just showed up on the VISA statement - $593! I’m pretty sure most people what call that “around $600” but he just goes by the first digit. The man makes me crazy sometimes!! And it’s not like that puts us in a bad place - we have enough set aside to cover the whole project (inheritance money) but if the budget happened to be tighter, it could scrrew things up. You’d think after 41 years, I’d be used to this little quirk of his.
Anyway, the sun is coming up and I need to shower and dress for my adventures. Happy Tuesday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 33 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 59 and becomin’ cloudy this afternoon. Rain is predicted for tomorrow. We shall see. Since I had to people yestiddy, today shall be a high RDOS inactivities kind of day. Sup will be chikin nachos since I didn’t make ‘em last week and still have a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Tnen, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
-13F this morning, with a high of 0F later today. Wind chill is at -24F. Most all the area schools are either closed or on a limited schedule. Bunch of sissies. Why, in my day. . . . . .
Absolutely nothing on the calendar for us other than breakfast, which will be an omelet per the wife’s request.
Thank goodness FCD didn’t sleep in - I got wrapped up in some bill-paying on line and lost track of time. But I made it to the Dr in plenty of time. So the errands have begun…
The egg shortage is triggering my food-hoarding tendencies, so I stopped by a local egg ranch yesterday to add to my stash, and now I have 2.5 dozen eggs in the fridge. So I guess it’s eggs for breakfast this morning. I’m thinking small ham steaks, poached eggs, and toasted ciabatta.
Then, since the recent rains are triggering major weed growth, I’ll get out a hoe and tackle some weeds in our planter beds. I’m thinking we need to buy some medium bark chips to add to the bark mulch, because we’re seeing bare spots here and there. Add “trip to the nursery” to the errands list.
Then it’s lunch at our favorite Japanese restaurant, with a side trip to the little Japanese market across the street to buy ramen, tofu, and Japanese sausages.
10 degrees here. Housing says the keys are 20 together. She didn’t mention the mail one, maybe thats free.
Morning all. Slept uninterrupted until 7am, my kidneys/bladder seem to be behaving themselves this week, don’t think I’m doing anything different in terms of diet, but we’ll see how it goes. 32F and supposed to get to 49F early in the afternoon then drop fast and icy/sleet and maybe 1" of snow is predicted, so I expect the stores to be mobbed today. Have finished my big bowl of Cereal and will shortly head over to the Bank of Money and get some, otherwise not much on the agenda.
Boo fae, sounds like a good thing to do for the car, and the chance it’ll catch on here is approximately 0%.
FCM, need to see when my balance is due, I have enough in the checking to cover it, but don’t need any ‘oops’ surprises…just looked and looks like Mid-March. Hope the weather isn’t too bad and I do try to round up instead of down…that way I am never surprised on the hit to my account.
lucky, I don’t eat eggs, but if I stop by the store today I’ll see how the inventory is.
And off to explore the wonders of 2sDay. Take care all.
It’s MINUS FIVE with a real feel of MINUS TWENTY ONE. PT was my only plan today and that got canceled cuz Eric is sick. Therefore, I am not going outside today.
Well, it’s only 5* this morning and wind chill is 1* so I’ve decided not to go to the office, even though I should.
Instead I’ll waste a little time on the Dope.
Can’t believe there’s only 10 new posts in the mmp since I signed off last evening. Is it too cold for y’all to post?
Who was facing off last night and how did it end?
Me too. Thanks JtC.
or better yet, a wool cap or a tuok (piper is that spelled correctly?)
I guess 5*, wind chill 1* isn’t so bad, could def be worse. Keep warm cookie. You too wetone
when I lived in Tay-has, numerous years ago, an annual car inspection was required. Don’t know if still a thing. But knowing the party in power down that way, probably not. yanker, what say you?
I believe it’s toque (hat).
-9 here for me-windchill 30 below. Schools and and preschools are closed so I’m on Day 2 of grandma child care. Color me tired but delighted.
Doggio, That is simply awesome!!!
FCM, FCD’s rounding sounds like MusicMan’s estimation on how soon he will get somewhere. His almost there is my 3-4 hours away.
BooFae, yes, indeed, I was wearing a hat for awhile. It was a Mickey Mouse toboggan that lights up!
JtC, I hope that you can rest and relax and feel better today.
This is the strangest illness that I can remember having. My teeth have been chattering, my hands are weak and I cannot hold my phone with just one hand or it it falls. And then the coughing and such. MusicMan is also sick and he actually stayed home from work today.
So, not much going on here other than just resting and trying to feel better.
the super bowl and parade continue to be small talk in philly. the clean up continues, port a potties, barricades, and trash.
one incident has made the news. there was a potty related shooting. on saturday there was talk of a shooting at 23rd and spring garden. this was big news in our building as that is 2 ish blocks away.
here is the scoop:
on the west side of the parkway, near a 4 apt. building complex, was a large row of portapotties. an argument broke out regarding line cutting for the potty. the argument escalated and one person decided shooting the “line jumpers” was the thing to do. one of the “jumpers” was hit in the leg, and a bystander was hit in the leg.
the 2 injured women were taken across the parkway to the medical tent located at 23rd and spring garden, then to hospital for treatment.
the shooter has been arrested. the women are in stable condition. the whole thing is just mind boggling. the shooter is facing quite a few years in prison. the stupidity is staggering.
it is rather chilly today. i am wearing new sneakers today, leopard print, with leopard print sweater. wild day!
last night i watched you tube while knitting. i came across this video. I Tested My Cats’ DNA using BasePaws | Family Tree of Cat Breeds i do enjoy usefulcharts. a very informative channel. his milo (rip) in the video was very like my lager. some of lager’s personality traits remind me of a ragdoll cat. now i want to know how lager would match up to milo… maybe when i get my refund.
You just can’t catch a break!! I hope that’s quickly/cheaply/easily fixed.
Aww that made me smile just picturing it
Thank you for going. I had to work and could not attend the protest here yesterday. But the protests are slowly catching more and more press attention.
Did you hear back from the doctor and get the all clear?
sticky buns That sounds miserable - I hope you both feel better soon.
It is 18F/-8C here and rapidly dropping, with windchills somewhere in the negatives. Work is closed - we’ll be getting freezing drizzle all morning and there’s already a solid glaze built up. I forgot to take the trash out to the big bin this morning and as the drizzle had just started it only looked wet. And I quickly discovered that was wrong. So cue shuffling across the driveway holding onto the house to reach the outdoor bin, which of course was frozen shut. But at least I could stand in the grass to wrestle it open before slowly making my way back in.
At this rate I’m hoping the office stays closed on Wednesday as well (we already work from home Thursday & Friday). They treat the sidewalks with ice melt but don’t do anything to the actual parking lot, so it’s quite treacherous to get from your car to the sidewalk. And good luck trying to stay upright when you have to step up onto the sidewalk!
I logged into irk to find an email telling everyone my basement office has been rented out, effective March 1st. I’m being moved upstairs to share an office with our accountant. It makes sense, as I’m only going down once a month now. But I won’t be able to play my music, and bounce to it on my ball chair. And I won’t have my coffee pot, so I’ll have to use the Keurig on the ground floor. I guess I can fill up my 30-ounce tasse de voyage.
Anyway, the president of the company that’s renting the basement lives about a mile from the office. They have eight employees. We own the building, so the rent will help out our bottom line.
FCD is just the opposite - he’ll say he’s 10 minutes away, then he’ll show up 2 minutes later. The man has absolutely no concept of time and distance. He’ll insist I’m following a car at 100 feet when I’m barely 2 car length behind.
Speaking of whom, he just picked up some parts he’d had made for the boat. The price shot waaaaay up thank to a certain < expletive deleted > tariff on goods from Canada. How long before it hits the fan??
Yeah, because that’s what the Second Amendment is all about.
Back from all my running around. Eggs at Aldi are $5.64/doz. And if that’s not bad enough, they’re in the process of rearranging the store. Produce and refrigerated stuff hasn’t moved, but everything else has. I swear, it’s a game grocery stores play - just when you know where everything is, they move it to force you to explore.
At least it sounds like we won’t get snow after all.
