Mail key is 10 and my bp meds are coming in the mail. Fml.
I wont ask my church guy, hes paid my Feb rent, came over twice to bring me t.p. and is getting a pacemaker next week.
I’ve been trying to figure out what sort of mix Sadie is. She has long hair, and the coloring of a Siberian, but with a bit of a squashed nose like a Persian.
No. El Jefe (former, now CEO) banned them, I’m told; but he never told me and hasn’t said anything about it. La Jefa saw me using it during our last one-on-one. She remarked on it, but didn’t say no.
Have you done a Covid/flu A&B test? Sounds like it could be one of those. Flu is at its peak everywhere. The combined tests are available for about $9-10 at drugstores, pharmacies, etc. it is worth doing because if it is flu you want to start Tamiflu (prescribed by your dr) within 48 hours of symptoms. Both my gran daughter had the flu last week, both quite sick and within 12 hours of Tamiflu they were well on the mend. It was kind of amazing, even to this grizzled old nurse.
Well, since coming home, I’ve emptied the dishwasher, put away the groceries, vacuumed my car, and written to my congressman and both senators (yeah, same letter to all 3, but it counts. So now I’m going to sit and try to chill a bit. I’m thinking of putting a sticker on my car that says “I didn’t vote for President Musk” but this is a very red county…
OK, time for chillage.
Afternoon all. Did my banking and a little shopping, then home to a large soup-n-sammich lunch that should hold me until the evening hours. Probably will go to the gym, just sitting around the house is not that interesting and there is nothing on the 200 channels of Direct TV that I particularly want to watch.
wet one, sounds like a plan. At least it’s in the 40’sF here. And all you folks in the frozen lands, stay warm.
lily, happy writing. I was going to write a book when I retired, but never got the energy to start on it. Bravo to you and keep at it!
Sticky Buns, hope you get to feeling better, sounds like a flu bug, but you never know…

52, rooting for an outbreak of sanity by your bosses regarding Wednesday.
Flyboy, that’s a couple big changes in the last few weeks for you; hope no more surprises are coming your way.
And that’s all for now. Further reports later and things occur.
I got an email this afternoon from a friend - it included the obituary of our high school choir director. He was 90, which means he was in his 30s when we were in high school - it seems so weird to me to realize that now, but I digress. It’s been over 50 years since graduation, I haven’t seen Mr. S in all that time, and, frankly, I rarely thought about him. I enjoyed his classes and I loved singing in the choir, but it’s not much more than a distant memory for me.
I think for my friend it was a whole lot more. She never left the area where she lived way back then - she’s even got the same phone number - she lived with her folks, for a lot of years, then took over the number. On the rare occasions we’ve gotten together since graduation, she talks a lot about our high school days. I get the feeling she’d truly say that those were the best days of her life, which I find rather sad.
Anyway, there’s going to be a memorial service for Mr. S in Baltimore at his church next month and they’ve invited all former choir members to attend and sing some song that was attached to the email. No, I won’t be going. I’ve pretty much lost my singing voice - definitely no longer a Soprano I as I was in those days. Plus except for visiting my mom, I don’t go to Baltimore any more.
I honestly can’t say I’m sorry about his passing - and I don’t mean to be nasty. He was my teacher for a short time more than half a century ago. I wish his widow well. I worry about my friend. But I just don’t care. And I feel like it should bother me that I don’t care, but it doesn’t. And frankly, if you’d asked me last week, I’d have guessed he’d died some time ago. And life goes on.
Just got my flu shot. Didnt have time for the covid one, almost missed the bus.
Will get that probably thurs.

For whatever reason I never did nap yesterday, so I went to bed on the early side…but was woken again by the loose piece of siding (under the bedroom window, just behind my head) flapping in the wind. It woke me at around 4am, and I decided to relocate to the couch. All told I was awake for about an hour – between deciding to get up, actually moving to the living room/getting set up, and settling down again – but then I slept pretty solidly for a couple more hours. The couch is less than 20’ from the bedroom door, but thankfully when the furnace is running I can’t hear the noise from the siding out there. 15 minutes before my alarm was set to go off, Bailey decided to help me wake up by coming into the living room and barking in my face. So I’m definitely still tired today, but less than yesterday. There will be similar wind speeds tonight, and I’m leaning toward simply starting off on the couch. Not ideal, but it’s reasonably comfortable in a pinch.
On the bright side, yesterday afternoon my property manager replied to my email about the siding and said he’d send someone out. He didn’t say when, but at least he acknowledged my message. It’s a start.
Dad got the time for his procedure on Thursday: he has to arrive by 7am, so I’ll aim to get to his place by 6:30am – which means leaving my place at around 5:30am. Which is two hours earlier than my alarm even usually goes off. Not a great week to be having nightly sleep disruptions, but que sera, sera. Per the Weather Channel’s forecast I might be able to return to my bed tomorrow night, but the winds will pick up again Thursday and Friday nights. I’ll ping my property manager at the end of the week if needed.
I think of that quote all the time!
I get what you mean about feeling like it should bother you, but it makes perfect sense that it doesn’t. I’ve only been out of high school for 36 years, and can think of just one or two teachers whose deaths would mean anything to me – same with college, honestly (and both were small schools).
That’s good to know, thank you.
Thanks to everyone for their kind words about yesterday. I put the milk back in the freezer, it looks like I’ll be heading to the capital on a weekly basis until we lose our rights to do so. I’m retired and can easily afford the gas money.
Besides, it will get me out of the house. It’s funny/sad that my Monday routines will include going to the gym, driving to the capital to and having a late breakfast at one of the downtown diners, protesting for a few hours and then stopping at Aldi’s on the way home.
A couple of weeks ago, I woke up and nothing hurt. I was pretty sure I was dead. The I stood up and realized that yep! hip still hurts, I’m alive.
And your doggerel is first rate!
I live to be annoying.
Keep those letters and calls to your elected officials going, some day you can aspire to be as annoying as me!
Honestly? No, I wasn’t. There were two more protests before this one. I wasn’t at the first and I went to the second one but was so unprepared that I only stayed for about an hour.
But I’m one of the oldest which really ticks me off. Where are all the grandmothers?!?
That is so kind of you to say!
It really wasn’t that difficult, mostly I worried about running out of milkweed when the cats were big. I did learn a whole lot about them as well.

Yesterday was a funny kind of day, we are both still feeling a bit numb and kind of lost.
It is always such an adjustment when one of them goes, no matter how expected. Sometimes I still expect to hear VBC bringing me her piggy.
Don’t over do it just because you feel better. Your doctor really did think you should rest for two entire weeks.

The egg shortage is triggering my food-hoarding tendencies,
Eggs aren’t triggering me, but I’ve been stocking up on meat. We get a lot of meat from Canada and they are mad at us. I’ve been hearing they are going to start targeting tariffs at red states and feel pretty sure that meat won’t ever be less expensive than it is today.

Therefore, I am not going outside today.
I would have to go outside just so I could scurry back inside wile exclaiming about how cold it was. Kitty cuddles and hot chocolate would follow.

This is the strangest illness that I can remember having.
I do hope you start feeling better soon. I agree with our resident night nurse that this might be more than your body can fight off by itself.

the stupidity is staggering.
That sums it all up very nicely.
Good lord.

But the protests are slowly catching more and more press attention.
This is encouraging. We have felt very ignored for quite a while, I’m so happy that so many people showed up in each state.

He didn’t say when, but at least he acknowledged my message. It’s a start.
At least he heard you. Honestly, if I was your property manager, I would send someone out ASAP. Once the wind has found a way under the siding, it doesn’t take long before the siding starts coming off in large chunks. Wind is like that.
So…we just got a boil water advisory. That is not surprising considering all of the flooding, but still annoying. I don’t trust our R/O system to get everything so I’ll be boiling a big pot of water to use for cooking and teeth brushing every morning. At least I have five gallon pots handy, there aren’t a lot of people who can say that.
I couldn’t get to the gym today, the road is still closed due to flood damage. At least the gym avoided damage, but I understand they aren’t supposed to be pumping water back into the pool (from draining it due to the filtering issue) until there is potable water in the pipes again so things are kind of a mess there.
In better news, many of the flood dawgs are being returned to their homes. It was very heart touching to see some of the reunions, the poor dogs were so confused and scared and then so very happy when their people arrived.
Some of the dogs had collars and tags, some of them had chips and some of them had owners who cared enough to check all of the shelters in a hundred mile radius because they loved their pets so much.
And then there are the sad ones. You can tell by looking at them which dogs were pets and which ones were brought home as cute pups and then tossed out into the yard when they started growing up. Those dogs didn’t have family, they never even had a bed of their own.
They are living their best lives now. The shelter volunteers are washing them and brushing them and telling them that they are good dogs. The floods were very good for some dogs, the ones in our shelter will go to vetted families and will always have a bed to sleep on.
Howdy Y’all! We have really honed our RDOS skills today. It took all the effort I could muster to walk down to the mailbox and back. I needed N.O.L. and nappage after that. Both of us were feelin’ a tinge of malaria and scurvy comin’ on so we remedied that with two gin and tonics each. Sup got et as well. Soon it will be Netflix, chill, and popcorn time.
Got the new to me car. After a morning of crap, finally have it home. The battery apparently didn’t like being not driven in a while. It was throwing all kinds of weird codes and binging. Took it back to the mechanic and he put in a new battery. Seems to be working right now. Need to get a new windshield…400 bucks I didn’t want to spend. But at least I’m mobile now, and not giving the rental car company $60/day.
Friggin cold out there, 'sposed to get down to 5 ferrets tonight. I mean it’s not as cold as some of y’all, but it’s darn cold. And the wind is howling.
Just normal housekeeping tasks today: washed a lot of dishes and pots, swiffered the bedroom and changed the sheets and pillowcases, also swiffered the stairs (picked up a sizable amount of Bella’s hairs), and took laundry to be washed downstairs. Kind of tired now; have to save energy for rooting for the Spartans tonight; they’re playing the Boilermakers.
Good thing it’s a 7pm start and not a 9pm tip as I don’t know that I’d make it to the end of the game if it was a later start.
And important to stay up for whole game tonight as its on Peacock rather than a dvr-able channel.

That’s what matters, being there and showing up. Even if you feel it’s a waste of time because there weren’t any elected reps to see all of you, you know that the protest is the right thing to do.
I don’t know about WV; however, in Maryland Sen Chris Van Hollen did show up to multiple protests over the weekend including Presidents Day. So, FCM and Sari have a US senator who demonstates that he cares about his constituents.

the outdoor bin, which of course was frozen shut.
ours was too so there are currently 2 dog refuse bags sitting on top of the lid. They may be there for the foreseeable future as it’s not forecast to get above freezing or even near to it until Sunday. So, we won’t be wheeling it to the curb for Friday pickup.

renting the basement
are there any windows down there? if not, those 8 employees will likely encounter some mental health issues.

tariff on goods from Canada
I thought the
had changed his mind about imposing tariffs on Canada.; apparently I was wrong.
coppertone is your back healed? can you go back to work?

One person’s reasonable volume is another person’s excessive noise volume. “Hubs, turn down the tv, I’m trying to go to sleep!”

Bailey decided to help me wake up by coming into the living room and barking in my face.
aww, he’s so happy you’re back.

Keep those letters and calls to your elected officials going, some day you can aspire to be as annoying as me!
Here’s a script that was shared on Instagram:
“Hello,
My name is [NAME] and I live in [TOWN, STATE]. I am a constituent. I am urging the Senator to vote NO on Linda McMahon’s nomination to lead the Department of Education, AND to loudly explain to the American people why it is important to keep it. (or after Department of Education: I think the Department of Education is critical to providing quality public education in America.)”
Hopefully no one will protest that this is too political and doesn’t belong in the mmp. Is there anyone who thinks that public education is bad?
ETA: Van Go Yay for new to you car. Boo for battery not working properly and particularly for having to purchase a new windshield. But that’s less than 7 days of rental fees.
It was 2 weeks Sunday. Not completely healed. They aren’t taking me back and no interviews in sight. I’m actually applying places that would take me 2 hours to get to.
My back hurts if I stand or walk for more than ten minutes. It will heal, takes time.

are there any windows down there? if not, those 8 employees will likely encounter some mental health issues.
There are windows on one wall, maybe a couple of feet tall near the ceiling. They have bars over them, and we didn’t have/couldn’t find a key. I mentioned that to La Jefa and El Jefe this morning, and El Jefe said they’d had a locksmith in yesterday morning.

Is there anyone who thinks that public education is bad?
I’m going to go one step further and say that I think that all children should go to bed with full bellies.
And now I am thinking I’m going to start saying very bad words.
So, the water boil adversary says to boil water for ten minutes. I’ve always read that bringing water up to a boil is all that is needed.
What do you folks think?
And a good early evening all. Spent a lot of time at the gym, some of it exercising and quite a bit sitting and reading between working out. Home now while it is still moderately warm (43F), but it’s going to drop fast once the sun goes down and snow/sleet is expected between 2-7am tomorrow, so we’ll see how much and how bad it gets.
FCM, been over 50 years since I graduated HS, doubt many of my teachers are still around and only remember 2-3 of them by name. And yeah, none of them were memorable enough in my life that I would drive several hundred miles to their funeral.
Oopsie, Doctors love to operate early, so hope the alarm works well.
JtC, thanks for the good news on the doggies. Some people…
VanGO, hope those initial hiccups were the only problems with the new wheels, Stay warm.
Cat Glove, enjoy the game.
{{{Coppertone}}}. Life doesn’t seem to give you any breaks these days, does it?

So, the water boil adversary says to boil water for ten minutes. I’ve always read that bringing water up to a boil is all that is needed.
Wikipedia sez on it’s entry for “boil water advisory”:
Under a BWA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that water be brought to a rolling boil for one minute before it is consumed in order to kill protozoa, bacteria, and viruses. At altitudes above 2,000 metres (6,600 ft), boiling should be extended to 3 minutes.
And ten minutes seems awful long, you’d boil away an appreciable amount in that time, I would think.
And Mac-n-Cheese has been consumed, the space heater has the computer space up to 74F and I’m going to watch some TV. Take care all.

The house feels strange without Shadow, and I keep looking out for him.
{{{BooFae}}}

or better yet, a wool cap or a tuok (piper is that spelled correctly?)
Not piper, but toque (yeah, French, you know there’s some fancypants spelling for a cap)

when I lived in Tay-has, numerous years ago, an annual car inspection was required. Don’t know if still a thing.
It still is. Sis always checks hers before taking a road trip, given that she’s an RDOS and doesn’t always pay attention to those things.

But I won’t be able to play my music, and bounce to it on my ball chair.
What? No headphones?

Eggs at Aldi are $5.64/doz.
One of my local friends just posted a pic of that price. Meanwhile, the very same day, I paid ~$1 less for a dozen of cage free brown eggs at Kroger.

Got the new to me car. After a morning of crap, finally have it home.
Yay! Have fun with it.

ours was too so there are currently 2 dog refuse bags sitting on top of the lid. They may be there for the foreseeable future as it’s not forecast to get above freezing or even near to it until Sunday.
So, you have a couple of poopscicles? (I’ll show myself out).
Today at irk, I walked the project manager for a new facet of the business, my grandboss and my great-grandboss through the process of one of my assigned tasks, since they will be setting up something similar (unlocking kill switches on Motorola and Pixel phones). Someone had thrown a phone labeled as Samsung in the bucket, so I pulled it out, fully intending to demonstrate how to factory reset one of those as a bonus. It was a Pixel. Not only was it a Pixel, but it had one of my breakroom friend’s name on it. My grandboss took a pic and said that he would be checking out why this happened. I did give my friend a head’s up, but I feel kind of bad that she’s drawn the attention of someone higher up than the lead who usually handles this kind of stuff. Not my fault, I know.
It’s supposed to snow tonight, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they cancelled irk or postponed it tomorrow (we have a weather hotline for stuff like that). It wouldn’t break my heart.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!

And ten minutes seems awful long, you’d boil away an appreciable amount in that time, I would think.
While I am pretty sure we are only a hundred feet or so above water level, my CDO requires boiling the water for at least three minutes.
This is gonna suck. I wash my hands and everything else all the time when I’m cooking, remembering that I can’t just open the water tap to wash food is going to be HARD!
(yes, we do have bottled water available, but I have serious ethical issues what that stuff…not to mention the plastics involved)
And just to make things more fun, the temps are down to 20F now and we are expecting 3 to 5 inches of snow overnight. Which will make things not so much fun if Hubs has to go to visit his cousin. The anti-vax cousin who spent an entire week at a hospital filled with sick anti-vax people. Yeah, that’s the one, she’s sick enough that their daughter in VA is coming back to take care of her while her husband has had yet another setback. And that’s all the words I have left to say about that as well.
I think the Raven liked the hotdog pieces better than the falling apart offal I’ve been giving him despite the latter being tastier. He (?) was able to eat a few slices and then pick up two of the other pieces and flying off.

JtC, thanks for the good news on the doggies. Some people…
Everyone who has ever been involved in rescue has some really horrible stories to share. It is great to be able to share good news about them once in a while.
I can’t really be involved with petting unsocialized dogs anymore, my balance isn’t good enough for that, but we can help in other ways. Money is always needed when it comes to rescue.
Speaking of which, I’ve been giving money to Harry The Forest Fighter for the flying squirrels. He’s been using it to buy nuts and acorns$$$ along with home dried fruit to make a sort of paste to smear on the trees by the colony.
I wouldn’t mind the expense so much but all of the birds in the area like feasting on the paste and don’t need shelled acorns$$$. They can come to my house and I’ll give them anything else but they like the high dollar food best.

Friggin cold out there, 'sposed to get down to 5 ferrets tonight. I mean it’s not as cold as some of y’all, but it’s darn cold. And the wind is howling.
It’s not how cold it is for other folks, it’s how cold it is for you in your area. Stay warm. Good news on the car.
I was working from home today. When I woke up, the toilet in the back bathroom (close to the back door and poorly heated area) had frozen. I rigged a space heater aimed at the flow line and it thawed in about 10 minutes. Supposed to be cold tonight as well, so may have to do it tomorrow morning as well.
