I use it for everything from cutting a tough steak to opening a bag of chips. Holds a really good sharp edge. It’s my second one, as my first one was confiscated by a guard when I went in for jury duty in Portland. And the bastards refused to return it when I left.
Making green chili stew today, which is always good on a cool day.
Visitors coming tomorrow. The wife and her niece are going to a play, whilst I entertain the niece’s husband. I have no idea what I’m going to talk to this guy about for two hours. The only thing we have in common is cooking, and we’ve pretty much talked about all that before. My ability for small talk has really declined, so this could be two hours of awkward silence, especially since he’s not exactly Mr. Chatterbox either. Maybe a walk around the 'hood is in order.
OMG! Packing out the apartment will be interesting. Today I found a bag with 3 partially disassembled electric razors from when FIL’s dementia started - he decided things needed to be “fixed” and pretty much destroyed them - like a vacuum and the water softener in Florida. No idea why MIL still had them. And a bag full of incontinence supplies from FIL - he’s been gone over a year and never lived in the apartment where she is now. And there’s a box of spices I need to sort - I expect most are ancient since MIL has hardly cooked for the last 3 or 4 years.
And so many pillow cases! And placemats! And blankets! Habitat will do well.
At the moment, I’m babysitting Tobias while Roxy is at a b-day party. He’s napping and I’m chilling next to a snoring pug. Once I leave, I’ll run to Wal-Mart and Aldi before heading home.
Such excitement!
So I was sliding instead of heaving today. 100, 200, and 300. The odd bit of overgoods today was a pair of body bags. Now I’ve got laundry drying and I’m watching hockey. It’s Carolina Hurricanes vs. New Jersey Devils. The ESPN announcers spent the entire 1st Intermission talking about the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Cool!
They’re owned by Kroger, so it may be coming to a Kroger subsidiary near you.
Now I want ice cream. Dammit.
That sounds right because I’m here.
Isn’t Pittsburgh the center of everyone’s universe??
I’ve heard it described as the center of the drain in everyone’s universe. Is that the same thing?
Well, the late Ruble, Miss_Owl, and Scooby the bartender at the tequila bar on Carson Street are the main good attractions.
Thanks all for the good wishes. I am fortunate, I only get one or two ocular migraines a year and while they are annoying and inconvenient, they are nothing compared to how some people suffer.
I’m glad it happened yesterday because the threads for my new mystery piece arrived today and I would have been pretty bummed if I wouldn’t have been able to sort and admire.
Despite having a big bin stuffed full of stretcher bars, there are a few sizes that I don’t have…and this kit calls for a pair of 20 inch bars. Usually I “shop” at the Store of Mom, but she’s doing the same project and will also need the same sized bars so I ordered a pair from da jungle.
Full or Empty?
Had to go buy a new padlock, lost the key yesterday and had to get the gym to cut the old lock off. Picked up a package of 4 locks, being me that’ll get me about 18 months… Then pedaled the calories away and come home and put some of them back on, so dinner will be later tonight. Otherwise it is all quiet on the Ali-bama front.
Howdy Y’all! After a rainy and stormy start to the day, the weather calmed down. The sun even peeked out a few times. Now we have a flood warnin’ in effect until Moanday. Don’t think it will effect us, however. We et a late N.O.L. and have been in chillax mode ever since. Like doggio and Pilot we had gin and tonics to ward off scurvy and malaria. One can’t be too careful! I have a peach cobbler in the oven bakin’ away as I post. Peach cobbler and 'niller ice cream in our near future!
I thought we might have tuna sandwiches for dinner tonight. Either that, or Bâtonnets de purée de bœuf, sur pain blanc, perhaps with Réduction de tomates, moutarde and pickled cucumber chutney. But SWMBO wanted aspara nikumaki. Unfortunately, the beef we have is the wrong thickness and shape, and we don’t have any asparagus. So instead I’ll just cook some teriyaki beef and some rice, and use the leftover salad for a couple of small salads.
I get ocular migraines too, once in a while. Though I can still see, its distracting, yet painless.
The human body is a weird thing. Supper is the free meal I brought from training.
I am snacking on hummus and pita right now.
I wish I had a kitteh to report on.
Oooh! I love the purples. So regal.
Worked some more on the cookbook today, but that’s been about it. Supper was a nice garden salad with some popcorn chicken for protein. I may make some popcorn for a snack later.
Flyboy, if you ever open a restaurant, I’m gonna live there. Your cooking always sounds excellent even if it’s tuna salad.
@JaneDoe42 red’s right; those are some awesome purples. Gonna be real pretty when you’re done.
As to me …
Had a light breakfast out, then a serendipity shopping expedition to a shiny new Euro-grocery store that opened recently in what had been a dead Best Buy for a couple years. So good sized conventional groc store, not a boutique delicacies only store.
Mostly Russian & Polish goods, but a bit of everything else. Bought some FinnCrisp rye crispbread, a loaf of dark Polish rye bread with no English on the bag, and a small package of Russian shortbread cookies, also devoid of English. The cookies are yummy with an interesting spicing & not too sweet. Haven’t tried the others yet.
Their takeaway hot lines are quite something to see. Not cuisine I know well enough to critique, but darn impressive to look at. The bakery however is to die for; whether dessert stuff or just breads.
Darn shame about the teeny Mom’n’Pop Polish goodie store in the same center; they are sooo doomed. Nice folks too. Ouch!
Got my mail, drycleaning, & Amazon item. Then home to finalize my next adventure.
A Doper from upstate NY is a competitive sailplane (AKA “glider”) pilot. They’re having a national competition ouside Orlando starting a few days ago and running until next weekend. Some time ago he generously invited me to join him & we’ll fly his glider together a bit when he’s not competing.
The glider airport is out in the boonies as they tend to be. It’s 30 minutes to the nearest Motel 6 and even more to a tolerable hotel.
Anyhow, as soon as I wrap up w my atty on Mon afternoon I’ll drive the 3+ hours to the lakefront resort near Orlando I booked, then we’ll aviate in fine style for a couple days.
My pal in Casablanca sent some pix of him kickin’ it. Looks fun. Next time …
Then a haircut, car wash, and now sitting at the outdoor bar enjoying a grouper diablo with shrimp, baby octopus, & calamari rings along with margaritas plural at the place HL & I used to do taco Tuesdays.
I’ve had more, and more meaningful, convo w the busy bartender tonight than the last several times HL & I ate here together total. So happy that’s over.
It’s about 45 minutes to sunset now and I have no clue what’s the rest of today. Gonna be good though.
That sounds good! What time should I be there??
My tongue is atrocious today. Sores on both sides and my throat is sore. Nothing I’ve eaten is really working for me. Even the ice cream was too cold. So, I took a nap and just got up a few minutes ago. Still ugh. But the nap was nice.
Ok, Actually ice water flavored with just a tiny bit of fruit punch syrup is doing ok. I am well hydrated today at least!
MusicMan is at work and won’t be home until late. Hopefully I can motivate myself to do something productive in the meantime. For now, I’m just hanging out here and watching Charade.
That beats “productive” all to hell. You have earned a day of ease.
Mouth sores are the total pits. Some of the cancer meds my late wife was on for awhile were infamous for promoting mouth sores that healed only slowly if at all. A bad scenario all around. Good luck getting to resolution with them.
So dinner has been consumed and will be thinking about bedtime early since (1) I was up at 6am today and (2) going to lose an hour tonight (remember to Spring Forward, people). Probably will change my watches and clocks tonight before bedtime so I’m not too discombobulated tomorrow. Tomorrow is Golden Corral Day, so stuffage will be taking place.
Sticky Buns, that sounds miserable. I used to bite my tongue on a regular basis and thought that was as painful as could be, but this sounds worse. Take care.
Pilot, yeah, big tends to put little out of business. Enjoy the gliding, flying without engines, what a concept!
Catch y’all tomorrow whenever time I get up.
Off to sleep, it’ll be snowy and rough tomorrow so no one will need me. Yet.
Looking forward to church!
That sounds horrible, when do you get the results of the biopsy? I really hope you get some relief soon.
The most surprising part about gliding is how quiet it is. Flying is noisy, hang-gliding is surprisingly loud so my first time in a glider had me thinking something was wrong because it is so very different. “Are we really moving?”
I’m super jealous! We have to drive to Tucson to get to a decent bakery. There used to be a bakery a few towns over that did a wonderful rye, but they got successful enough to be able to afford the rent in town and left everyone who supported them over the years in the dust. We will stop in when we are in town, we aren’t holding a grudge or anything, LOL!!!
I really do wish there was some way you could feel the threads. K. Rees picks marvelous fibers, I do a whole lot of unneeded stroking while I’m sorting!
Our kitteh found a loose spot under the sisal rope on the living room scratching tree and we woke up to find our living room covered in bits and pieces of rope. I’m sure the jerkface had a lot of fun, but what a mess!
I’ve got the loose ends tied back up and I’ve ordered more rope so I can fix the tree. We could probably buy it in town (at a hardware chain store) but we like to order that sort of thing from da jungle to give doggio something to throw around.
Well, I have a sad. The guys upstairs moved out today–U-Haul truck and everything. Aside from the occasional violent argument, they’ve been pretty quiet. It took me a long time to get them there, so I hope the new tenants are quiet from the start. Of course, who knows how long it’ll take to rent the apartment, since there are so many vacancies here. I shall hope for the best.
My sister-in-law is going through yet another eye crisis, this one involving incredible pain. My brother had tried and failed to get her to call the doc, but I talked her into it. He’s going to see her tomorrow. She’s in for a long night.
And in the True Confessions department, my stomach pain has been back for awhile. I’ve had two days–not consecutive–where it was pretty good. I’m going to have to cave and go to the doctor. It doesn’t seem to be stress-related, and it’s too low to be an ulcer.
And as long as I’m grousing, I hate, loathe, and despise Daylight Savings time. The Monday after should be called Misery Monday because most people are tired and cranky from lack of sleep. It’s hard on kids, I’ll tell you that, and IME, it takes them a full week to adjust. Whew! Got that out of my system.
The doc said it’a bursitis and would go away on its own, but it might take a year. I don’t quite believe him. I can’t find any sites that say that bursitis can take that long to resolve. OTOH, he IS a specialist, and I just own the joint.
FCM, what’s with the itchy legs? Is it an allergy? I hope it doesn’t last. And I feel so bad for FCD. It’s been a rough year.
I hope you’re referring to walking and not running/hurting your knees! I used to run in the very early morning when it was still dark. I miss it, but the knee replacement put a permanent kabosh on that. I’m VERY impressed with your 10 miles!
POS can’t mean what I think it means, so Place of Shopping? Post Office Shill? Porcupine on Steroids?
Doggio, don’t body bags fold down enough to avoid overgoods? The Alexa reminds er cracked me up.
Been there, done that.
Et moi aussi!
This is way too long. I have read all and am sending hugs to all struggling with health issues.
