(Old) MMP in the snow, uphill both ways

14 ferrets (-10 centipedes), wind chill -1 ferret (-18 centipedes). Predicted low tonight 0 ferrets.

Ick, I say. Ick!

I could almost have written this. My wife is 3rd generation Polish (Krakow). My mother had the same heritage as yours, most of whom came here in the 1600s/1700s, including Mayflower folks. My mother’s grandmother was also a DAR member and her grandfather fought in the Civil War. My father’s family was also German (Prussian) who came over in about 1850.

Well, got the Verizon box cancelled and turned in…which meant I had to go to the UPS store since apparently the Verizon store isn’t set up to ship returned items. Anyway, that is done and I did go and get my new-fangled Google 10 phone set up and the data transferred over so now I have a new phone to learn. Had the original one nearly 4 years, which I gather is nearly forever in phone terms, so it was about time. Only issue so far is the new phone is refusing to charge up and I’ve had to turn it off so the battery doesn’t die. Will try again and see if it’s a me problem or a system problem. Ah, the sweet joys of new technology… Set up for soccer tomorrow, will coach a couple of games and referee a couple more, since the high is not due to reach 30F being inside will be a good thing.

And I see leaving you folks alone for an afternoon results in 30+ postings to read, so let’s be about it and have the Big Bowl of Salad afterward to celebrate my catching up.

FCM, I have my own list of things and numbers to call on, so I can make a note that says “S. Fla, Dad, Star Wars” and I know what my password is but it would be tough for anyone else to crack the whole thing. Happy Dinghy-cover making! And hope the fuse replacement works for the pellet stove.

Coppertone, whoever did the refund, glad you got it.

Taters, I wonder if the guy from there wired it wrong, but that’s their problem and no longer mine. And hope your retirement case get handled promptly now.

JtC, hope your power stays on. And Yay! for GG not getting zapped. And a double Yay!! for the craftmanship your picture displays.

I concur.

Cookie, think I’ve mentioned before I am a big fan of Jersey Mike’s, hope lunch was good for you and daughter.

Or his real name is Jack Flash…

Nut, I tried ice skating exactly once in my life, and discovered constantly falling down just isn’t all than much fun.

VanGo, sounds like that work fridge needed some mayhem…hope it stays in better condition (but I wouldn’t place a bet on it). And sounds like the machine will be a hit with the little scientists. Never had a return to Duluth Trading, but the nearby store is always well-stocked and friendly employees.

And that’s all for now, need to get my Big Bowl O’Sallit ready and then graze on it as I watch You Tubes. Refereeing at 8am tomorrow so need to have an early bedtime.

Thsnks! Sounds like a good gift for my mother, who can no longer get bialys where she lives.

Up from naptime. Having a Puritain for cocktails, along with salmon, roasted red potatoes with rosemary and sauteed asparagus.

< taps candle off mantle >

To yourself or others?

I use a flan ring, since it is English Muffin diamater.

Yeah, Pac-Man is closer to reality.

I didn’t even mention things fall from above, Acme style.

Can’t tell from the photo, but still impressive needle work, Madame Defarge.

“I’m Polish from Russia/Prussia/The Grand Duchy of Lithuania/The Golden Horde/The 4 Acres Claimed By Gurthag the Hun”

Hi, ancestral neighbor!

All these interesting ancestors and the stories they bring. My most recent (that I know of) arrived from Prussia in the 1850s. Otherwise, it’s all British from the seventeenth century, which is cool, but very white bread.

Mrs Magill’s grandfather, OTOH, came over from Italy in the 1930s to escape fascism.

After yesterday’s, ah, festivities, today - Long Night - was no big deal. Got a facefull of cold, snowy wind a bunch of times, but I can deal with that.

Shout-out to the guy who played along with my little joke - I had just snapped a little icicle off the awning over the drive-thru (it was in my way!) right when he pulled up. He had a cheerful, good-humored expression, so I mimed stabbing with the icicle. He giggled y’all.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 23 degrees Ferret Height(-5 Centipedes). The SNOWPOCALYSE in on the way.

Glad it was a better night.

Morning Mumpers. It’s 20 ferrets outside and I had a mental health scare yesterday that sent me to the emergency room. I went about 48 hours without sleep and had a manic episode. ER doc advised me that I was well below even the therapeutic dosage of one of my medications for my BMI, and to raise it up slightly. A script has been sent.

In preparation for the Snowpocalypse, we’ve done grocery shopping, shoe repair, purchasing of gloves and fresh propane for our trailer heating. I also bought a good $10 pair of earbuds so that I can watch the Royal Rumble today without bothering anybody.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 7c/44f with a predicted high of 8c/46f and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s fucking cloudy, and the sun gives zero fucks. Like, literally fucking zero.” Except it was sunny when I went out to the gym earlier, so the sun wasn’t feeling so pissed off then.

I have to deal with people a lot, and be around them far more than I really like. It seems that since covid/lockdown, people have become far less tolerant and far more impatient, rude and entitled in their everyday dealings with others. It makes me very sad.

Eeek! I’m surprised that one didn’t walk to the bin by itself!

I’m glad to hear you got help very quickly and you’re back on track with stuff. Also sounds like good preparation for snowpocalypse there.

Yesterday was a slow irk day, but I got home at a reasonable time and threw together a fajita-seasoned concoction with some minced beef. I made chilli earlier in the week so didn’t want to do that again, and didn’t have all the constituent parts for either spagbol or curry, so there was some freestyling going on instead. It was deemed acceptable.

Laundry was swishing in the machine when I got home so I ended up having to deal with that as well. Cleaned up my food tubs from campus, fed the cats and dealt with litter trays (and then a full bin in the kitchen to empty). We watched a film after dinner (Bring Her Back) that was a horror film that took a bit of a turn!

I was up reasonably early to go to the gym, I was the only person booked on the first class so I told the trainer not to bother just for me, and I went off to do some other stuff. There were meant to be two of us for kettlebells, but the other person didn’t show up so I had Amrit all to myself. It was a good session, and I think I might book a couple of sessions with him as both personal trainer and physical terrorist (since he does both) - I have a couple of small issues that he might be able to help with

‘I’m back home with a cup of tea, time to get showered and have some lunch, then we are heading into town for some errands. We’re having dinner early at home, then going to see a couple of bands at the Giffard tonight. Can’t be out too late, the roofer is coming at 11am to look at some work we need done.

Woke to 10 Ferrets and we might hit low 20s today, and slight chance of snow. Ick. Only two for-sures so far - second coat of paint on the wooden pieces for FCD and training class for Otis at 1. I think I’ll be doing that on my own since FCD plans to do a bunch of little chores on the boat.

I had to trek out to his shop last night - I’d forgotten to look for his phone when I went out to clean my paintbrush. Luckily, the phone was where he thought it would be and I got there and back without incident. Walking slowly and placing my feet carefully has gotten me across the yard several times now. My forehead is still a tad sore, but my back is feeling better - not painless, but definitely better.

I contacted Jessica from Hospice yesterday - she’ll be coming sometime next week to get another half dozen blankets. I need to run them thru the washer to remove residual Otis drool and/or hair - he climbed on my a few times while I was working. So add that to today’s chores. I should probably rollsuck, too. And dust, if I get bored enough.

For now, caffeination continues. Happy Saturday! And Happy End of January! May February be better.

That sounds marvelous.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN I was a slugabed until seven a.m.:person_in_bed: ‘Tis 32 Amurrkin out as the sun rises with a predicted high of 40, sunny and windy. TWPTB have issued a severe cold warning for this evenin’ into tomorrow. I wonder if Precious will clutch his pearls and faint when he does the local weather forecast. Tomorrow is first Sunday brunch and then parish annual meetin’. It’s the annual chili cook off to raise money and/or collect cans of soup for the Souper Bowl of Caring. I do not participate in the cook off as I make chili just for us to eat. OYKW says my chili would win, but ain’t my thing. Instead I will make an Eyetalian cream cake and we will bring fixin’s for folk to put on chili. Sour cream, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, chopped green onions and corn chips to be exact. In addition we are takin’ a case of chikin noodle soup, a case of peanut butter and a forty-eight rolls pack of tp. The last two items are because NIN has specifically requested them. So I will make the cake today as a productive thing. Since it’s a good day to stay inside and warm we shall indulge in RDOS inactivities as well. Sup will be grilled ham steak, green beans, Mac & cheese and rolls.

BooFae sorry the part-time gig didn’t work out. Maybe it will in the near future.

Flipper glad you got the help you needed and are back on track. Good idea to be prepared for the snowpocalypse. Hope the power stays on this time.

shoe glad last night went better. I would have giggled too had I been that customer.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Good morning. 40-some ferrets at present and rain expected. In an hour, I’ll set up for the livestream of a college friend’s funeral mass.

Morning all. Just a short note post-breaking fast and before I head out to referee an 8am soccer game (indoors of course, it’s 17F outside). Also coach twice and may referee a couple more games, so a pretty full day. Warmest it’ll get is the mid-20’sF, so not a day for outside activities.

On the ancestor front, my Mom’s German family came over in the 1840’s, possibly due to the 1848 uprisings there, and Dad’s Irish ancestors were from the 1890’s, so pretty vanilla background there.

shoe, glad Long Night provided a smile this time.

{{{Flipper}}}. Hope things are going better.

FCM, y’all be careful. And good on ya for the blanket donation.

swampy, happy chili-eating tomorrow, and another good on ya for the donations.

lily, sorry for friend’s passing.

And time to collect everything I need for refereeing and coaching and be on my way. Take care all.

It’s Saturday! It’s Morning! It’s uphill! Outdoors, it’s 12 ferragamos, rising to 17 later today.

Doggio, I look forward to seeing progress on your home-built plinko table.

Mrs. Nott has caught my cold. Though we are now both sick, she’s several days behind me.

Okay, time for breakfast. Be strong.

Good morning.

It’s 48F and raining outside. It rained steadily overnight. Today’s high is expected to be 58F, and we’re supposed to see a mix of rain, clouds, and peeks of sunshine.

For those of you facing (or continuing to face) another cold front, stay warm!

Shoe, I’m glad the long night was much better.

VanGo, I stopped using the breakroom fridges because of the issue you described. They just became gross, and it was weird how many people became possessive over their expired food and their containers when notice was posted that ALL would be tossed. We had a tiny fridge in my last office area (not the break room), where I would keep my daily yogurt. I was sure to wipe out the fridge on the regular.

Flipper, I’m glad you got some help with your meds. Stay warm.

Lily, I’m sorry about your friend.

I rolled downstairs yesterday, but by the time I was done, my leg was bothering me a good deal, so upstairs will have to wait until today. I AM calling the doctor on Monday to get in and be seen. It shouldn’t be bothering me this much, nearly two weeks on from the spill.

Other than the above, I showered and did the usual tidying and kitchen cleaning.

Not sure what today holds. My son is supposed to come up, but we’ll see.

For now, I’ll enjoy another cup of coffee and peruse real estate. I’ve actually been looking at British Columbia real estate. It’s expensive up there unless you want a tiny lot and a tiny home. Even the tiny lots with nice homes are expensive. It’s fun to look though.

I’m sorry about your college friend. Hugs.

Good on you Mooooom and swampy on the donations.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Other than the usual sweeping up, not a lot shaking today.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

When I cleaned the basement fireplace, I decided to fling the ashes out on the snow. But when I turned to come back inside, I slipped, dammit. Didn’t hit my head or back, but idiot Otis thought it was a good time to come play. I was a hearbeat away from grabbing a small hunk of firewood to either whap him with or fling for him to chase. Fortunately, he backed off and I got in.

There’s a fire going downstairs and I finished the second coat of paint on the spacers. I had to take the brush out to the shop to clean, and no falls either going or coming, so yay for that.

I called BIL - for some reason, I’d set up his yahoo email to use my yahoo as a secondary verification and I had 8 or 9 emails yesterday (that I didn’t see till this morning) with the codes he needed. But when I called, he’d figure out what he needed to do, so yay. He bought a new tablet and he was setting up all his accounts.

He did tell me something about getting emails for account verification and I warned him about scams. Last thing he needs is a compromised VISA. He also told me he’s getting a cat - his social worker got it designated as a support animal, so huzzah!! He’ll be going to the shelter on Thursday to pick one out. After the training class this afternoon, I’ll go by his apartment and drop off our cat carrier.

Then he asked about ICE and our nephew who was adopted from Russia. I told him it shouldn’t be an issue because Robert is white, plus he lives in Texas and I expect ICE is more interested in brown folk. Interestingly, he didn’t ask about our SIL who adopted Robert - she’s also an immigrant from Belgium, tho she’s lived in the US for over 40 years. She has an accent - but she’s white, so who knows.

Anyway, BIL started ranting about Trump and the state of the country and I had to extricate myself by telling him I needed to go. I know the poor guy is lonely, and I think I’m the only family member he’ll talk to voluntarily - he never really got along with FCD since they were kids. But he did hang up and I got on with my chores.

Guess I should attend to rollsuckage.
