(Old) MMP in the snow, uphill both ways

It’s 15 F here with a high predicted of 25. It’s gray and sunless and I feel the life force has been sucked from my soul. Winter usually doesn’t bother me this early. By March I’m done with it, but I am done with it right now. I want to stay in my jams and watch Law and Order 30 year old reruns.

8F and sunny this morning. Tomorrow will be in the 20s and a couple inches of snow arriving.

Sadie took exception to one of my sneakers this morning and was beating the crap out of it while I was making breakfast. Cats are so weird. My shoes are in the same place they always are, but one of them must have said something insulting.

Breakfast was an everything bagel topped with avocado that I mushed up with lemon olive oil, chopped tomato, diced scallions and a bit of fresh thyme and some salt. Also bacon and cheesy scrambled eggs.

Daughter is on the way over, so that will be a pleasant break in the day’s routine of doing pretty much nothing.

I made the brownies I mentioned earlier, and they are sweet and taste like chocolate. They look like brownies but if you put one in your mouth expecting them to taste like brownies, you will be disappointed.

Equipment

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350F.

  • Mash ripe bananas with a fork on a large plate, and add to a medium bowl.

  • Add in the almond butter, eggs, cocoa powder, honey (or maple syrup), vanilla, baking soda, and a pinch of salt. Mix until combined.

  • Gently fold in the chocolate chips; stir.

  • Prepare an 8×8” baking pan with avocado oil (or you can line with parchment paper). Pour batter into the pan. Add a few cracks of sea salt.

  • Bake for about 25 minutes (or until the preferred doneness).

  • Allow the brownies to cool. Cut the brownies into squares and serve.

That’s probably the height of my achievements for the day. I changed the sheets and have laundry going, din will be Italian bean soup with fresh sourdough bread (which is doing its final rest before being baked. My razor skillz suck, much more practice is needed).

We are still in a state of emergency, but now its the cold. It is supposed to get up to 19F before dropping to around 0 tonight.

Its kind of you to continue making the lap blankets Moooom, I’m sure the recipients really appreciate them. Maybe you should just stay inside and play with yarn instead of slipping around on the ice…

You have no idea as to what they get up to when you aren’t looking, its a good thing you have Sadie to keep them in line!

:people_hugging:

It is indeed a very long, very depressing season.

I just heard a thud and looked out to see that ice is melting off the carport and chunks are hitting Hub’s car on the windshield. I think something should be done so I guess I’d better grab my jacket and get to it.

Evening all.

I am pleased to say that I still have all digits and have no major injuries from ice skating, even if they didn’t have an assistance penguin to hang onto that was big enough for big people. This is probably because I clung to the side like a co-dependent limpet, but I’m taking it as a win anyway. It was pretty entertaining, and let’s face it, I need some exercise when…

Though the first few spring flowers of the year are juuuust starting to peek up. I have primroses (which have been flowering all winter, so they don’t really count), snowdrops and I spotted the first crocus today.

Afternoon all. Testing my typing skills on my new phone. Waiting for my second game to coach and have coached one and refereed two already. It’s 21F but there is a strong wind and the wind chill is in single digits. So sitting in the gym in my winter parka before the kids come trying to warm up and watching the 4-yeat olds play. Watching Sebastian fall down every 20 seconds, mostly because he feels like it. Kids playing can be good for a cold day.

We dog parked, and Ms Peach was a butthead when it was time to go. “Hee hee, I’m gonna get just out of reach and then run away.” By the time I finally snagged her, my fingers were pretty much frozen solid. It was all of 12 ferrets with wind.

For more information on my climate and our local take on winter, please see this oldie-but-a-goodie thread:

I hate waking up at 4 in the morning and realising I forgot to plug in the car

Howdy Y’all! I got into bake mode this mornin’. I made the cake and brownies. When I reached in the cabinet to get the cake mix, I almost knocked a box of brownie mix over. I took that as a sign. We napped, day drank and et an early sup. It’s 32 ferrets out with a wind chill of 9 ferrets, so glad to be inside and warm.

Lily sorry for the loss of your friend.

Cookie I am positive that shoe (N.O.S.) deserved the wrath of Sadie.

JtC hope hub’s car is OK. I imagine fallin’ icicles could do some damage.

A bunch of people must have called in because I was bouncing back and forth between the 200 Slide and loading Blue 134 and 128. Then I had to go help on the 300 Slide, because it was just the one Clerk. I was there for an hour before I got to go back to the 200. There was bunch of damages/retapes/stuff to be rescanned. The kept a bunch of folk to keep loading until 1, in case nobody but the drivers make it in on Monday. I got out at 2:30p.m. It was 19 Ferret Height, and the snow just started. It has since stopped, as The Raleigh Weather Dome is holding:

I’m watching hockey and having a Vieux Carré.

There was a gaggle of geese and a squabble of seagulls on the shopping trip this morning. Very noisy. I did not do my usual route. The target doesn’t have a protected area to wait. It was 11f this morning.

We will miss out on snow this weekend, we will have the high winds instead. Perhaps there will be snow on Friday.

It hit 27 F in the sun. I hauled my bundled up butt to the barn. Got Ariel from the pasture and we hung around. Nice to spend time together. Stopped at CFA on the way home and got nuggets and a sweet tea. Put the nuggets on lettuce and chowed. The first vegetables I’ve had in several days.

Stop that, dammit! Hope that you aren’t too sore tomorrow.

Agreed!

When I went out to look at Hub’s car, I went out the door to the carport. (His motorcycle lives in the carport instead of the shed because he wants to know that he can just get on it and ride if the weather is nice. ). The car looked OK, so I backed it out to the road so I could see what was going on without actually putting my feet on the ground. It looks like the entire carport roof had a layer of ice that was now sliding down and breaking off. Big hunks were falling on his windshield so no damage so far. I left it out on the driveway just to be safe.

Hubs seems to like the pseudo brownies - or at least he’s eaten three of them and then put the rest in a sealed container and into the fridge. He suggested more honey and maybe some walnuts for the next batch.

It was very windy here as well and we didn’t get any of the promised snow. The forest floor is dappled brown and white and the trees are bare. It is stunningly beautiful.

Your part of the world was heavily featured in tonight’s Weather Nation report and I’m glad that you are safe and warm at home.

So not much happened here today, there wasn’t any reason to go out, so we didn’t. I’m going to gear up and go to the capital tomorrow, but I won’t stay for more than a couple of hours. Maybe not even that if it is too windy.

The power and interwebz were rock solid today, while there is a little road noise, it is comforting to know that if things go out, we will be back up first. The power lines in front of our home also power the traffic lights in town so are priority if things go down.

I’ve started a new little piece and it is the first time I’ve actually liked working with variegated thread. (I really do not grok variegated thread, it’s too random for my taste.) It is all rose and all of the shades of rose make my eyes happy.

I should probably call Mom, but she keeps forgetting that I’m not in the area so I do not know what is going on with her daughters and can’t help even if I wanted to. (One of them got busted with weed in Idaho and nobody knows what to do. I don’t either, I’ve never been busted for weed and I certainly wasn’t stoopid enough to do it in Idaho.)

And a good early evening here in N. Ali-bama. Soccer was completed around 2pm, but decided sitting around the house wasn’t much better so spent a couple more hours at the gym. At least I don’t feel too guilty about all the snackage besides the two main meals today. Wind along with 20F temperatures made it a nice day to be inside, and even the school gyms weren’t all that warm (the private gym I belong too was nice and comfortable). Am now sitting at the computer with the room heater at mid-level and things are warming up nicely.

Taters, best wishes on the leg exam.

FCM, you might not have hit head or back, but take it easy, something else could have been pulled and your body is just biding it’s time to tell you how sore it is… And nice to hear BIL is (sorta) getting on with his life.

wet one, hang in there, the winter doldrums get to everyone sooner or later. And I presume you have things needing doing instead of the sensible choice of watching old Law and Order episodes…

JtC, Interesting concoction. And ice chunks can do real damage, so best that you moved the car.

Nut, sounds like me on ice skakes…used to be pretty good at roller skating 40+ years ago, but now…

doggio, hope the Dome holds.

And onward with the You-Tubing and staying warm.

swampy and anyone else with BritBox - check out Hamish Macbeth. It’s a police procedural with a less-than-serious attitude. I watched it ages ago but I forgot pretty much everything.

Daughter is coming over tomorrow with her spawn and Trevor so FCD and I can get some boat work done without leaving Otis crated all day. Guess I should get some sleep, especially since I’ve been up since 4. < yawn >

And as for today’s fall, I pretty much just sat down hard. Don’t wear sneakers on ice. And now, to bed.

Got out pretty damn early for a Saturday night. Now I’m having claws dug into my thigh snuggling with Monkey on my lap, preheating the oven.

Not entirely sure what I’ll throw in there, but I got stuff in the freezer.

Reeeeeeally want that replacement card to show up soon, I’m scrounging the couch cushions for spare change and using up all my bonus points at the dispo.

“Dinner” became a slice of garlic toast and three little mini empanadas. And a multivitamin.

Close enough.

In less-happy news, one of my co-workers gave me a helluva thwack directly on my knee with the steel door of the reach-in. He’s one of the Teenagers, and often seems to suffer from a combination of too much testosterone & too much caffeine.

I appreciate his speed & energy, but he can sometimes be really chaotic to work with, and he swung that door open fast. It was a complete accident, and he apologized immediately, profusely, and with sincerity, but … oh, it’s damn sore tonight.

10:20pm locally, it’s 18F outside and I have been awake and fairly active for over 16 hours, so I think Sleepy-Time is nearly here. Have done nothing worth reporting the last couple of hours, watched several you tubers and did a couple of Spider Solitare games but that’s about it. Catch up with all y’all tomorrow.

shoe, hope the owie goes away, at least the dude knew he was wrong.

FCM, sitting down hard can hurt too, did that refereeing soccer last fall and was sore for several days. Hope it doesn’t affect you.

And off to Slumberland I go.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 21 Amurrkin out with a wind chill of seven and clear. The predicted high is 42 and sunny. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization followed by parish annual meetin’ and first Sunday brunch/chili cook off. Chili sounds like the perfect thing today. I have Chalice duty as well. The rest of the day will be devoted to RDOS inactivities as is our wont.

MOOOOOOM hope you aren’t too sore today.

JtC good call to move hubs’ vehicle away from fallin’ ice.

shoe hope the owie is OK today.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all! Happy February First!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. The Weather Dome broke and it snowed. I shall do the usual morning cleaning and afternoon sloth, with afternoon hockey thrown in.

Hope the knee feels better today shoe

I got that this morning.
