(Old) MMP in the snow, uphill both ways

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 7c/45f with no predicted change, and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s fucking cloudy. I checked my pockets and it turns out I have zero fucks to give.”

Your chilli remains a closely-guarded secret between you and OYKW  Sounds like a good day out and a very important cause, you’re doing great things ‘cos you’re a good person.

lily I am sorry about your friend’s passing, and also glad that it’s now possible to attend a funeral remotely. I am sure that is a great comfort to those who can’t physically get there.

I’m sorry to hear that you are still feeling the effects of your tumble, it’s a good idea to get the doc to check it out after this long. I also keep an eye on local house sales, it’s fun to look at the interior pics and criticise (not that our place is anything to crow about).

I feel like that through January, it is pretty much the bleakest month of the year for me. I bought some daffodils the other day, they are flowering now and give my desk a burst of colour that really cheers me up.

Nut glad to hear you survived ice-skating without injuries. I’m always sorry they don’t have those support penguins for adults, I could have saved myself a lot of embarrassment with one of them.

My mum used to love Hamish Macbeth, she had a fondness for all things Scottish. If you like that one, you might also like Monarch of the Glen if Britbox has it.

shoe and Mooooom I hope the ouchies are better today.

We had a fun night out yesterday, went into town to see a couple of bands at the Giffard, then we wandered up the road to the Posada as part of my plan for an early-ish night. We saw some of our pub friends there, and were on our way home by about 1.30am. The plan was to get home early because someone was coming to look at the roof this morning.

I was up around 9.30am, fed the cats and cleaned the litter trays, had a cuppa and faffed about until roofer chappie arrived. He was a recommendation from someone I know from work so hopefully he’ll do a good job. After he’d gone, I emptied a couple of bins and put the recycling out in the biiiiiig bin. Then I had a bath, I’m aching a bit from the gym yesterday and I have a very nice muscle therapy soak so I used a bit of that.

No big plans for the rest of the day, I think lunch will be eggs on some sourdough toast, and I’m making chicken curry for dinner later. Currently very annoyed by the expired McAfee/Norton virus stuff on my laptop as it’s going crazy telling me I’m at risk from all sorts of nasty things (presumably because I haven’t renewed their subscriptions). One of these days, I’ll get sufficiently bothered about it all that I finally delete them.

4 doug reese. Off to church.

Sore as hell, but I can put weight on it. Thanks for the kind words, all.

Frankly, having that many people in a small space full of hot things, sharp things, and doors without visibility of what’s on the other side means there’s an almost infinite number of ways we can injure each other - or ourselves - that I’m surprised shit like this doesn’t happen more often.

ETA it was 2 F when I woke earlier. It has since warmed to a balmy 3 F (negative 16 C).

Mornin’.

It’s 46F and raining outside. The forecast calls for morning rain, afternoon showers, and a high of 53F. There is nary a snowflake in sight for the next 15 days.

Shoe, I’m sorry about your knee. I hope the pain eases quickly.

BooFae, I hope the roof work doesn’t break the bank.

I’ve enjoyed the Shetland (both the older and newer versions) on Britbox. I am currently watching the latest season, and I’m enjoying it. I watch a lot of Britbox.

Yesterday was not a good day. Mr. Taters was extremely ill and spent all day in bed. He couldn’t keep anything down, but I ran to the store to get Sprite, Saltines, and apple sauce. Late in the evening, he drank a little watered-down broth, but couldn’t keep that down either. He got up briefly this morning, ate a little applesauce, drank some water, and then went back to bed.

My son showed up after his dinner date, and we hung out before he went upstairs to bed. Hopefully, my husband will feel a little better, and he and my son can hang out a bit today.

Other than showering and hanging out with my son for a bit, I don’t have plans for today. Right now, I’m enjoying some quiet time because the pups are happily upstairs with their boy. They love him so much, but it didn’t stop them from coming downstairs looking for breakfast at the usual time, lol!

Welp, time for some more coffee. Take care of yourselves and stay warm.

Good morning everyone. It was under 10F and snowing when I got up, its currently 13F and snow is falling like dust.

Well, dang. I do hope Mr Taters is feeling better today. Do try to get some yogurt in him, his poor tummy needs those helpful bacteria to help recolonize his gut.

I hope you are feeling better today as well.

shoe, dang about getting kneecapped! Is worker’s comp an option?

It is more trouble than you might expect. It took me most of the morning to find all of the hidden bits and delete them. No more annoying pop-ups though, so it was worth it.

This is all new and different to us! I never would have expected a four inch deep slab of ice to have formed up there. It broke off slowly during the day and now there is a knee high pile of ice stones where his car used to be.

I got the whole story about my niece and damn, kids these days are kinda stoopid. (well, she’s not a kid, she in her 50’s)

Weed is a felony in Idaho. Christine was visiting my Mom and sister (her mother) and they went to Oregon to buy weed because it is illegal in Idaho.

A few days later, Christine was driving home to Mexico (another long story there) and got pulled over because she had a broken headlight. She thought she was in Nevada so when the cop asked if she had any weed in the car, she said yes and handed it to him.

So many things wrong here…she had just left Mom. Mom supports her, if she had said she needed a new headlight, Mom would have paid to have it replaced. She did know it was out, she was going to have her husband deal with it when she got home.

So, she choose to drive from Idaho to the California border at night with a broken headlight. That was her first mistake.

Her second mistake was not paying attention to which state she was in AND doing something to make the cop ask about weed. She claims she doesn’t smoke and drive, but I know better. I’ve seen her doing it.

Her final mistake was talking to the cop and volunteering information.

Don’t talk to the cops, people. They are not our friends and will use whatever they can against you.

So now I’m going to sit here and drink coffee and smoke weed while watching the snow, safe in the knowledge that I will not be driving anywhere today.

Morning all. Slept in past 7:30am and have done the Sunday shopping (needed a new light bulb for and overhead light so dropped by the Mart of Wal). Couple of hours before dinner at the diner (Metro Diner) and then soccer at 2pm. We’re have a little snow in the air (it’s 21F) but nothing sticking and it should go away as the temperature creeps above freezing. Refereeing at least one game and possibly 3-4 today, depends if any other referees can make it.

swampy, enjoy the greetin’, meetin’, and eatin’ after church.

Something about the above just doesn’t seem right to me… :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Coppertone, stay warm.

All you hurting folk, please take care of yourselves and heal up soon.

Taters, hope Mr. Taters is feeling better today. Last time I was really sick was like that, but it only lasted a day. Hope he has the same bug.

JtC, you should know as well as the rest of us in regards to your niece, growing older is mandatory; growing up is optional.

And onward with the Morning internetting. Have a good First Day of the Second Month!

I hope that his belly bug passes soon.

I also hope that your knee gets back to normal soonest, shoe.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a small pot of pintos in the crock and fixing to do KP. I had a bout of insomnia last night and didn’t get to sleep until around 0400, so slept in until almost 0900. It’s going to be an RDOS day.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Otherwise known as, “Aw, crap, I gotta pay rent” Day.

In the 20s today. It’s been snowing since before I got up, despite the forecast saying it wouldn’t snow until midday. Not heavy, but persistent. Dining room had biscuits and gravy this morning, so we partook.

Sadie news: her runny eyes are getting better with the eyedrops we’re giving her. Bad news: she ate nothing yesterday and nothing last night. She always eats an entire can of wet food and a pile of kibble at night. Also rejected her food this morning. Need to keep an eye on this.

Laundry day and 'nuff said about that. We need to have the housekeeping staff run our blankets through the industrial driers they have. Everything is covered with cat hair.

I cleaned, dusted, and vacuumed. I took out the trash and recycling. I shoveled a path. Uphill! Both ways! In the snow! I got the second round of laundry in the washer. While I wasout and about there was a fire truck and ambulance at the next building. Hope everybody was alright.
This is how much the birds fear Spot:

I think a lot of us would benefit from having a support penguin around.

{{{{Mr. Taters}}}} Hope he feels better soon.

I did that Thursday, because the new bank card came in, and I was on the site updating it anyways.

Hope Sadie perks up, Cookie.

But isn’t that every day now.

You can stop worrying - I’m alive and fine. Well mostly fine - I did something to a finger and it bled a bit.

We went to the boat early to get some stuff done, and we were finished a bit after 12. But there was a gawd-awful accident on the far side of the bridge - bad enough that traffic was alternating flow. There was a big truck/van thingie on its side - we saw the undercarriage as we passed by. Another vehicle was on the side of the road with all airbags deployed. A fire engine was pulling out as we got there, and I expect there was an ambulance earlier. So a longer ride home.

Daughter and her spawn are here - we’ll order Chinese for supper. Trevor and Otis play together rather roughly - they broke the leg support on my little side table. Glue should fix it up nicely. Meanwhile, unless they’re outside, Otis is upstairs and Trevor is in the basement.

Speaking of basement, I noticed the pan under the deep sink was full of water. The cold water supply valve was leaking… a LOT. So tomorrow I’ll take it off and go buy 2 more - one for each supply line. So I have that to look forward to.

And that’s why I’m finally posting at 3PM Eastern.

Happy Sunday, all!

Sausage gravy, or cream gravy?

Oven is on, and a stuffed chickie boobie (buttery Kiev this time) is baking away. Tucked in two mini quiche at the same time, and since those have a far shorter baking time, I already got appetizers!

Closing tonight, but I don’t open, so I get an extra hour in the “morning” to laze around, eat (!!) and contemplate all the crap I gotta do before yearly inspection this week (!!!) and maybe take out some trash.

Monkey is bored out of his furry little skull so I’m tossing him some extra treats. There’s a brand that’s supposedly healthy on Amazon for, like three bucks, and occasionally that’s been juuuuuust what I need to get me free shipping.

Thus we now have treats galore, and a gentle granny-throw is enough to get him leaping and chasing.

Sausage, of course. What sort of deranged psychopath doesn’t use sausage in their gravy? My only quarrel with the gravy here is that they don’t use enough of it and they don’t brown it like they should. Easier than making it, though.

Ah, blissful silence! Poor Otis is wandering around looking for Trevor. He misses his buddy.

The Chinese place we order from almost never has accurate delivery times. For example, today they said our order would arrive at 5:18. It showed up at 4:35!! They pretty much always allow 65 minutes for delivery, but rarely take more than 25. In fact, on just one occasion did it take an hour - I’m guessing it has more to do with when the order is placed - early orders get very early deliveries. Orders closer to suppertime take longer. No biggie, just amusing.

But now that it’s quiet, I think crocheting is in order. BTW, Monarch of the Glen is streaming on Amazon Prime. I think I may have seen it, or part of it, some time ago. I’ll add it to my viewing rotation.

OK, on to my recliner.

So it was cold today but we hung out at the capital anyhow. Now I’m rage baking and will take cookies to the old farts home tomorrow.

Our fuzzbutts are always looking for different treats, thank you.

Yeah, our birds aren’t very bothered by the fuzzbutts either. But at least they are entertained.

I hope she’s just feeling off because of the vet visit and that it isn’t anything more serious.

Hey, @swampbear , da cave still holding warmth well enough? I’m seeing news stories about that storm in Georgia.

But some days are more RDOS than others.

The pintos are good! I made a batch of cornbread muffins to go with and that is supper.

Well, we finished the “Signs Across America” jigsaw puzzle, minus one border piece. One corner piece was de-laminated right out of the box. We’ll glue that before sending it on or doing it again later. There are some puzzles you never want to see again, but this was a nice experience.

The weather made a mess of NASCAR’s “pre-season” Clash at Winston-Salem. They rescheduled it several times because there’s still snow on the track. Now they say it will happen on Wednesday. We’ll see.

Tomorrow, a group of cheerful politicians in top hats will drag a fat famous groundhog out to face the TV cameras, and they’ll pretend there’s something meaningful about what the critter sees. Ah, folklore!

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, et some good chili (our vote for the best won), and survived the annual meetin’. Three new vestry members were elected. Again the three we voted for won. We got back to da cave at one-thirty and nappage ensued shortly thereafter. OYKW snacked on some cheese and crackers and I snacked on some graham crackers with peanut butter. The biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow.

Taters hope Mr. Taters is feelin’ better today.

Nettie we are fine here, just cold. The Winter storm is more northeast of us. Even Ye Olde Hometowne escaped most of it. Sis tells me they got maybe an inch of snow, but it melted this afternoon.

red I like pinto beans, but OYKW can’t stand ‘em so I never make ‘em. I tried canned ones once, but ICK.

I hope folks and animals are doing okay this evening. I wish there was any decent Chinese food anywhere I’ve lived in the PNW, but it may be confined to Da Big Citeez here. Also gotta say, having lived in SE New England, I still miss good, basic Cambodian restaurants. Sigh. At least we’ve got decent Thai in the top left corner of the US of A.
