Yeah, I’ve made some versions of Chinese, Indian and Filipino foods. Chinese is probably the hardest to get right because of the high heat level involved. The average home stove can’t get there.
Oy. This hasn’t been a kind winter.
nickless or nickfree?
Indeed it is!~made me snort laugh my morning coffee out.
Better yet, tell him you’re going to bring TWO boy toys to his funeral, both in drag.
We lost power while I was napping yesterday, sometime between 9 a.m. and noon. We didn’t get it fully back until 3 p.m. today.
Our landlady’s daughter bought Dominos for the family. Mom and I slept in the running Prius, while my sister, by her own choice, slept in the trailer under a ton of blankets with our cat Kestra snuggling her.
At about 3:30 in the morning, Ellie woke up and everything hurt, so instead of going to work, we took her to the ER. She was insistent that she had been plenty warm enough in the trailer. The doctor couldn’t find anything wrong with her blood work or nasal swab. She doesn’t have the flu. She was sent home after getting some Tordol.
After the power came back on, I thawed out some boneless skinless chicken breasts and made chicken wraps for dinner, which was what I’d been planning to make yesterday.
he needs to straighten up or you’ll bring a boy toy as a date to his funeral.
Oh yeah, like I’ve got the patience and energy to train a boy toy. Should widowhood befall me, I plan to spend as much of it as I can taking cruises. MetalMouse is my inspiration!!
Did I mention someone slipped and fell two more times today… He finally used a boathook as a ski pole and managed to remain upright. So I guess even he can be taught.
I had a fire going in the basement most of the day but it barely got about 70° down there. I opened the door to the unfinished part of the basement, plus left the stairwell doors open so heat could get upstairs. It’s probably down to embers now - I’ll clean it out tomorrow.
The rest of tonight is crochet and TV - I’m up to season 3 of All Creatures… Some serious bingeing going on there! Anyway, off to my recliner!
Ms Peach is currently digging in her toy box, even though she has (does quick count) 11 toys out just in the office. Aaaand she just threw one of them, apparently the most important one (right now) behind and under the couch.
So, it appears Mr. Taters has joined the Cataract Club. He is 62. He has a consultation with the ophthalmologist on 10 February. Both eyes will need surgery.
I am not surprised, but 62 seems youngish for cataracts. I knew something was up when he willingly lets me drive.
Anyway, we are on the way to getting him fixed up and I have already reported all your positive results to him.
Good on ya for doing your mammo!
Every year. Along with a CT for lung cancer screening. Former smoker, doncha know.

Good lord! I thought Nelson was bad about having half his toybox out.

Nah. My mother had her cataracts removed about 2015, when she was 59 years old.
I had cataracts in my later 50s. Another pkeasant side effect of tamoxifen is that is speeds up cataract formation. I haven’t yet progressed to needing surgery.
In Yiddish, Vilde Chaya is literally wild animal, but it’s generally used for a high-energy child.
This is not how we manage our feelings Peedin!
I can’t snack when I’m stitching lest I stain my rather expensive threads with chip residue left on my fingers.
I finished this one today - I’m not going to mess with that big Rhodes Star in the middle. It is too bulky for me to add more thread and it looks like the picture so I’m going to call it good.
Now I’m doing a snowflake in 6 different whites (there are thousands of shades of white, btw) on blue canvas.
I guess they were late for their appointment at the auto body shop.

{{{{JtC}}} about Mom and the sewing stuff.
Thank you. I used to get really upset by the blatant favoritism but I got over it about ten years ago. I can’t control what she does but I can control how I react. There are very good reasons about my decision to put at least a state between them and us (when we were in the same state they also expected Hubs to drop everything to solve all of their mechanical problems or things that involve muscles.)
also strongly urge you to have a mammogram.
If I wasn’t already in the habit of getting regular boob squishings, you certainly would have convinced me to start!
I was very pleased that the mamo tech from a few months ago was able to get my records from AZ so quickly, I expected a lot of delays and excuses because that’s what would have happened in AZ.
Great, I’m gonna start getting the weirdest “suggested for you!” pop-ups now.
There is a little town in the middle of nowhere AZ called Eli. Back in the 70’s a man bought some property and wanted to start a Family Fun Park, but he just bought some junk from other amusement parks, did a few things and then walked away.
One of the things he left was poles with egg shaped human sized cages on the top. Most of them had the doors just swinging open but there wasn’t ladders or steps to get into the cage. Hmmm says us, so I used my phone to search “human sized cages on poles eli az”. I did learn the history and that the cages used to be a sky ride at Magic Mountain, but I still get very x-rated spam.
I am not surprised, but 62 seems youngish for cataracts.
Everyone is different and the amount of unprotected sun exposure a person takes over the years does make a difference.
He’s going to be so happy, he’s going to get all of the light and colors back again! The surgery is a breeze and the most discomfort involved is the nothing by mouth thing cause that means no coffee!
(they brought me a cup of coffee as soon as they got me back to the recovery room, and wheeled me out to the car before I finished it.)
So besides finishing that piece, I have done nothing. Well, almost nothing. The floors got swept and the ceiling fans got dusted but I was doing that while procrastinating dealing with my AZ state taxes. My retirement account sent money to the state for taxes and I’m too cheap to let them keep a hundred and a half because I don’t want to do the paperwork. It did get done and then I got my new project started.
The snow stopped this morning and it got up to mid-30s for most of the daylight hours. Some snow melted but not a lot. We are going to have to go out tomorrow, I am out of lemons for my ice water. We also need tomatoes and avocados, but it is the lemon that will motivate me to get in my car.
We spent all day yesterday and today clearing the way for our plumbers. The basement is uncluttered and they will have easy access to all of the pipework. They will be here about 9.00am
Now I’m doing a snowflake in 6 different whites (there are thousands of shades of white, btw) on blue canvas.
Oh, PLEASE share a pic, that sounds beautiful.

Searching in “Incognito” mode
is your friend.
Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it stays until it gets dirty again. We et at the [s]hog trough[/s] GC and then achieved nappage. Well achieved when we returned to da cave. That would probably be frowned upon in the GC. Day drinkin’ and more episodes of All Creatures Great and Small ensued as well. MOOOOOOM we are on season three as well. It’s hard not to binge that show.
Flipper long time no see! Glad you survived the power outage.
Taters I expect the eye doc will tell me it’s time for cataract removal in the next couple of years. The tales of the surgery by others are encouragin’. I know a few IRL folks who say they are glad they had it done.
Good evening all. Gym time this afternoon, then Wendy’s provided my repast. Verizon guy stopped by to hook up my internet, but on first night review I am unimpressed (slow to load, videos and live-action You Tubes will stop and ‘spin’ several times), so it may get returned to them if it doesn’t improve in the next few days. At least having company made me tidy up my ‘office’ some, still need to do more though…someday.
Filled up the gas tank, 485 miles on less than 17 gallons, so about 29.7mpg. I can work with that.
28F outside which is an improvement over the last couple of nights but they are predicting some sub-zero temperatures for the weekend.
And over 40 messages in the past 13 hours…I really need to make sure I do some reading in the afternoon…ah well, hi-ho, hi-ho, if off to scroll I go…
Taters, hope the eye Doc and the dinner were both satisfactory. And I see the Cataract Club has a new member. Hope it works out for him, I suspect in a couple of years I’ll be hearing the same thing.
Wet one, cookies might not be the answer to the world’s woes, but they can’t hurt.
Happy humidifying, FCM.
Lily, Wow! on the medical history. I’ve been lucky for far, gall bladder and a hernia in the past 20+ years, but my day will come…
Crafty, so you’re having problems getting it up? Maybe a certain prescription…and hope the Ford will not stand for Found On Road Dead.
Flipper, good to see you around the MMP again. And losing power in the winter is no fun thing for anyone. Hope sister is doing better.
FCM, your welcome. Still need to take a river cruise in Central Europe on of these days…
JtC’ lovely piece of work.
Oh, one little funny thing. I got some cash from the bank this afternoon for February, I still keep a habit my Mom taught me in giving the cashier a note on how I want the cash back (how many $20’s, $10’s, $5’s etc). I asked for 1 $100.00 bill (for my February shopping trip) and she must have mentally added 2 zeros, because I got two packs of 50-$1 notes. Went back in the bank and got it straightened out with no problem, but not sure what I would do with 100 $1.00 bills…
One last note. Gala Apples are good, right up there with Envy apples as my favorites for now (Fuji is next weeks test subject).
And that’s all for this day, take care and I’ll catch up with all y’all tomorrow.
I finished this one today -
Looking good!

Cash for panhandlers / unhoused folks you run into. Even though I don’t carry much cash, I do keep some ones and fives in my purse for that.
I wonder how Piper would deal with this heat wave…
It depends on the time of year:
-15 C in late October: “Man. it’s cold! Winter’s coming!”
-15 C in late December: “Nice brisk day!”
-15 C in late February: “Hey, it’s warming up! Spring is just around the corner!”
I napped. I made Redneck Stirfry for dinner and a Manhattan. And a couple of Highlands Cerveza Obscura.
Great, I’m gonna start getting the weirdest “suggested for you!” pop-ups now.
I get that all the time.
Hopefully it’s just a weak battery, and not the starter.
“Clickclickclick” would be the starter. Otherwise, maybe battery.
She doesn’t have the flu
Hope she feels better.

You can take the cruises and leave the boytoy to take care of Otis. ![]()

But the project is looking good.
