(Old) MMP in the snow, uphill both ways

Ball gags and butt hooks for everyone!!!

The lower Danube (Budapest to Bucharest) was a delight.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 28 degrees Ferret Height(-2.22 Centipedes). Screaming Tuxedo Zoomies are in progress.

I was gonna take a Viking river cruise, but then I found out it didn’t involve sacking towns and monasteries.

Chopsticks. Just sayin’.

The wind has finally dropped, and there are some tiny flecks of blue showing in the sky, which is the first time in several weeks. It’s due to go back to grim, wet ‘n windy again from tomorrow though, so I’m not getting too excited. The temptation to skive work is large- I shoulda brought my laptop home yesterday so I could at least pretend to be working.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 3c/38f with a predicted high of 7c/45f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “For fuck’s sake. What’s up with the fucking clouds?”

We bought a fancy water fountain for our mogs ages ago, they sniffed it and declined any further interaction with it. I left it running and eventually they started using it but it was a week or two before they decided it was acceptable.

Ouch! I’m glad you got power back eventually and everyone got warmed up again.

It’s just a shame that it takes a couple of painful falls for him to learn anything. You would really think someone who’d had extensive spinal surgery would want to be a bit more careful.

I’m glad there are so many positive stories to pass on to him. At my last eye test, the optician said I have the start of a cataract in one eye but it’s not serious enough to worry about yet. I’m not sure at what point it does become serious enough!

I think it looks fabulous! Not necessarily my preferred colours, but the work is excellent.

I hope everything goes smoothly and the job gets done quickly.

Yesterday was an ok irk day, still waiting for my official offer on the new job but the person in charge of that probably didn’t process it in HR until yesterday. After irk, I disappeared off to the kitchen to prepare campus food for the rest of the week. ‘im indoors made chicken chow mein for dinner with the remains of the chicken I roasted on Saturday (and he had a sandwich out of it too) so that was a bargain bird.

Today I was up early, tended to the needs of cats, and made my way to campus. The bus was relatively timely, the train was late, but still got me to Big City Station with 7 minutes to spare before the next train to campus. I have a choice of meetings today, the person sitting next to me is going to the School Forum so I’m going to the Senior Education Support Team meeting (mainly for the gossip) and we’ll swap notes afterwards.

Tonight is finally pub night! Our local pub with the fabulous Nepalese chef has just reopened their kitchen after a complete refurbishment. Makes sense to go and have a curry, doesn’t it? We’ll have some yummy food and a couple of drinks there, and then walk halfway home to a different pub that does a drinks promotion on Wednesdays (£3 a pint) so that’ll be my evening sorted out.

Now I need to go and play with module choice forms….

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 31 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 51 and sunny this afternoon. We shall procure provisions this mornin’. That will be the big activity of the day. The usual RDOS sloth will take up the rest of the day. Sup will be BLTs and oven fries.

Hippie hope the plumbin’ replacement goes smoothly.

BooFae happy pub night!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

This post never got sent, apparently. I wrote it yesterday.
Today got off to a bad start. My alarm clock went off, and instead of pushing the off button, I knocked it off the back of the nightstand. I retrieved that and shut it off. I got dressed, whacked my ankle on the bed frame, and shambled off to the kitchen. I started the coffeemaker, took my pills, and disassembled a Mandarin orange.

Here in Elkhart, Indiana it’s 12 ferrets, windy, and snowing. “Feels like” -4 F.

My eye doc has been telling me “In the next 3-5 years” for the last 3 years. We’ll see what he has to say when I see him next month.

Yesterday I had an inspired idea for the next MMP. For the life of me, I can’t remember what it was. But it would have been epic!! Stoopit brain… I really should make notes when I have an inspiration.

Even after running 2 misters all night, the indoor humidity sits at 27% - at least in the kitchen. Maybe it’s more in the rooms where the mist is blown out. Or not. I’m thinking I should hang wet towels around the house. Or maybe hose down the carpeting. :open_mouth:

Today has started with 13 Ferrets going to a high in the mid-20s by afternoon. Yesterday it briefly touched 32 - with luck we’ll creep above freezing next week. But as thick as the ice is, it will still take a while for it to melt away. Poor Otis slips and slides when he tries to run, or stop running. When I let him in last night, I watched him lose his footing a couple of times. Not that it stops him - that dog loves his yard.

Today is errand day - running to Food Lion, Aldi, and WalMart for various and sundry needs. I should probably plan to make a decent supper, too. We’ve foraged the last few nights, which means mostly cereal or sammiches. I’ll shop with that in mind.

Meanwhile, Happy Wednesday!!

Well, Sadie decided that it’s not the devil’s creation and has started drinking from it. Success!

Something I found out much later is that when we got home and Ellie went back inside the trailer, our cat Kestra was freaking out. Ellie held her, and she was freezing. So she held Kestra to her chest for a full half-hour to warm her up.

I feel sicker this morning than yesterday. More mucus, more muscle soreness.

Today is Pop Art Day, so go make a picture of a Dad’s Root Beer bottle or make a picture on a Dad’s Root Beer bottle.

I’m a root beer aficionado but I think Dad’s Root Beer is revolting. Sorry. Don’t mean to yuck your yum.

Good morning.

It’s 46F and damp outside. Rainfall of varying intensity is expected throughout the day, with a high of 50°F. We had a pretty dry spell, so the moisture is welcome, although, once again, it would have been nice to see some snow.

Our anniversary dinner was amazing. The restaurant had personalized menus with anniversary greetings, table cards with additional greetings, and rose petals. We did not pay extra for this; they just did it. The food was delicious, the service was stellar, and we’d certainly like to go back sometime. The bill itself was pretty eye-watering, but we were expecting that. We had chateaubriand for two (came with baked potato, parmesan-encrusted tomato, and asparagus. We had very delicious pork belly as a starter, and for dessert we had Bananas Foster, which was also delicious. We have enough leftovers from dinner for another full meal tonight. We also both had a couple of fancy cocktails.

Hippie, I hope all goes well with the plumbers and their work.

JtC, I think your piece looks very nice.

BooFae, happy pub night! Hopefully, you’ll receive the official job offer today.

As for Mr. Taters’ cataracts, I think it was somewhat surprising, given that we went from 0 to needing surgery in less than five years. But, as we all know, it’s fixable, and he’s excited to get it over and done. He could have had an earlier consultation, but it was further away than the specialty center he would need to visit for both the consultation and the surgery.

Nothing much on the agenda today; some chores, and hanging with the pups. We were gone a lot (for them) yesterday.

Take care, my friends.

Got up at 5 AM to start wife’s car and daughter’s car. Was -10 °F out. Their cars (each a 2005 Saab) are at the bottom of the hill in the driveway; they can’t make it up the hill to the house. My 2000 F-150 is the only 4WD vehicle we have, and it’s on a battery charger. Hopefully it starts today.

After each comes home and parks their car, I drive their car out to the road main (about 800 feet), turn around, put the car in reverse, and back in. That way they don’t need to drive in reverse on the driveway. (They’re just not skilled at it. When they try, they go off the driveway and get stuck.)

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Sis will be here shortly to pick up groceries for me.

I look for me to be in the cataract club within the next couple of years. According to my last optometrist, just about everyone over 40 has the beginnings of at leat one.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Good morning all. Stayed in bed until after 7:30am today, sleeping is a good thing and I’ve come to enjoy it a lot, but have arisen, pilled, dressed and installed hearing aids and read my webcomics so my morning to-dos are done. Weather Wizards say it is 26F now heading to 44F with clouds, so boofae weather… Nothing much on the agenda, sloth interspersed with sweating at the gym is probably my fate.

Reasonable. Not a lot of panhandlers here except by the side of the road at stoplights and I often don’t have a chance to interact. Plus you are a much better human being than I am.

Piper, y’all ever considered moving to warmer climes?

Lily, either than or something through Germany. For all my travels, I really have not seen much of Europe outside of Britain and would like to remedy that while my mentis is still compos (and not compost).

Boo fae, enjoy pub night.

Knots, what a way to start a morning. I need to buy a yardstick, while cleaning my chess set yesterday I knocked one of the pieces behind my desk which is against the wall and since it’s one of those L-shaped modular ones, moving it is not likely, so need to fish it out of the 2" space from desk to wall. And feel better soon.

FCM, I have those little room thermometers and the one near my desk says 24% humidity, which it tells me is ‘dry’. No plants to worry about so it doesn’t concern me too much.

ekedolphin, hope the trailer is warming up by now.

Taters, so glad the Anniversary dinner (and the service) was special.

Crafterman, hope everything started as it should. Never been so happy to have a garage for my car.

red, yeah, I heard the same news on my eyes, cataracts are there but have not progressed to the operating stages yet. Probably go see the eye doc in May/June and see what he says now.

And that’s the morning missive. Take care and have a good day whatever you temperature is.

i was excited for cataract surgery, most people with myopia are. i hope his is nice and easy, with no side effects.

16 in philly. the city in its wisdom is shutting down streets during rush hour to do snow removal. it took an hour to get home yesterday. they can’t use the melters now, they pile the snow into dump trucks and take it to various locatations to create huge snow mountains.

we are at 40 percent chance of a small nor’east’r this weekend. not much snow expected in this one.

Cataracts become serious when you go into the pasture and can’t find your horse. Cataract surgery is easy peasy plus I got Lorna Doones in the recovery room.

10 degrees. We havent had this kind of cold for decades. I could go out in it ( I wear 2 coats) but the walkways arent clear or safe to walk on.
Tomorrow I get a ride for groceries.

Morning, all. Turns out a thing I’m doing later today that I thought was a conversation is being recorded and distributed, so I suppose I’ll jot notes on the questions and wash my hair.

Off to feed qat fud to the neighbor’s qats.
