(Old) Of Humid Bondage- A Heatwave MMP

Well, on Tuesday night I’d maybe had a few more beers than I should have, and I don’t bounce back like I used to.

By design, we were very early for the Cubs game, so we decided to get off the train one stop before Wrigley, to get a walk in and enjoy the neighborhood. It was a hot and humid day, and the hangover kicked in. It was only about a 3/4 mile walk, but by the time we reached the ballpark I was out of breath and absolutely drenched in sweat. I bought two big Gatorades from a street vendor; chugged one right then and there and took the other into the game with me.

Thankfully, our seats were in the shade. It was still sticky and there was virtually no breeze, but being out of the sun made a big difference.
Being at Wrigley always feels like a homecoming to me, and I loved it. Our view was great, the game was exciting, and the Cubs won!

Post-game, we had about a one mile walk to the bar and grill we’d chosen to meet up with one of my traveling buddy’s friends. I bought two more big Gatorades and drank them along the way. My pace was slow and I was once again dripping in sweat by the time we got there.

Air conditioning and a good meal did wonders. The beer intake was more moderate, and after a good night’s sleep I feel great today! On to Predatory Loan Field for a White Sox game!

Happy burp-day, sticks!

FCM The trials of boats. My friend had one, and I must admit I spent more time upside down in the bilge fixing things than I did on deck enjoying life. I’m glad he doesn’t have it anymore.

I read that as molasses which I find funny.

happy birthday! and good luck with annie at the vet.

And she was right.

Happy birthday anyway, and may tomorrow’s celebration be everything you both want!

When Monkey sits in “his” window, he sometimes looks like that.

This whole story is hilarious.

Certainly not grandma!

A brief siesta has been siesta’d, though not for nearly as long as I would’ve liked.

But when you suddenly have a decent amount of food after a few days of virtually nothing, then later when nature calls, you GET UP.

Scrolling quickly, I thought you said ‘a beef fiesta salad’.

A taco salad sounds really good, only the Mexican restaurant had a fire months ago, and they won’t be reopening until Autumn. :frowning: (Yes, they have a ‘taco salad’ at the taphouse, but they don’t know what they’re doing.)

Slogging through training is annoying. I would prefer being trained by doing.
Everyone is nice though.
And free food for sitting there for 2 hours.
Its 88. Supper tonight will be dorito salad.

We were up at 0500 this morning. We got dressed and headed out. We stopped at the Kosher Bagel shop for a bite and then went to the quilt show venue. We got there at 0640. The truck showed up at 0655 and we spent the next three hours unloading and assembling the long racks from which the display quilts hang. We were not on the hanging crew so we spent the rest of the day doing Vendor Support. We helped the vendors unload and haul their stuff to their booths. There was a slight lull but enough for us to get a sandwich and then back to the haul in. We finally made it home about 1430.

Tomorrow we will attend the show, look at all of the quilts and shop at the vendor booths. Saturday we will show up just as the show ends and help take down the displayed quilts, disassemble and load the racking into the truck and help people to claim their quilts.

We had a good time today but were pretty much worn out by the time we had the last vendor loaded in. It is good to be home.

Howdy Y’all! Duty got did and we were bears who brunch. Then it was cee-mint pond time which included nappage, sloth, and day drinkin’. Back to my usual self today. YAY!

MetalMouse safe travels although you may be there or almost there by now.

Pilot enjoy your staycation. The Whitney Houston tribute and air tour sound fun.

Shoe good to know Monkey likes sky raisins. However, he should be careful of the jalapeño flavored ones.

MOOOOOOM those two just keep gettin’ keeeyoooter!

Wheelie what’s a vacation without a hangover. Continue to have fun!

Sticky_Buns hope all goes well with Annie.

And now this…

Certainly this grandma would not be able to resist such cute (the truck isn’t bad either!).

Well, I’m in Mobile. Drive down took a little longer than I thought (about 6 hours with a couple of stops). Drive over past the USS Alabama which I’ll visit tomorrow and rubbernecked around the city, it’s nice but not worth getting out in 92F heat. So lazing in my room and catching up with my NY Times reading. Posted a pic on my Book of Faces page.

Doing this on my phone so will forgo comments until I get my laptop set up. Dinner time will ll be approaching soon.

That was a good answer. You didn’t throw her under the bus, but also indicated that yeah, she doesn’t have a clue as to what you do.

Don’t forget his hands and the back of his neck. Buy the high SPF sun block.

Both of you have so much going on, especially him, I can’t realistically suggest avoiding stressful stuff.

Have a safe trip and take many breaks.

I am rather upset with myself because we had a fabulous t-storm and sideways rain and I didn’t think to put my car out where it could get nature washed. Magic sky water is new and different thing to me, LOL!!!

So many rules :frowning:

Room service is a thing yanno?

That bitch has been sneaking into my house too. Monday I will look into getting my MMJ card so I don’t have to drive to Virginia fer a couple of pre-rolls.

Your mother is one thousand percent right, ain’t nobody happy when their fuzzbutts are sick.

Happy Birthday and I hope you get good news at the vet and enjoy the movie.

DUDE! You rock!!!

I’m so glad you are having such a good time. Do they still sell peanuts at baseball games? Is Cracker Jack still a thing?

It sounds like you had a wonderful day! I hope the vendors remember who helped when selling all of their “I’ve never seen such a thing before, but now I can’t live without it” wares

I am really looking forward to the pics!

Is George calming down and settling in any?

Buddy has recently decided to stay in the front bathroom (which includes the laundry equipment and litterbox) at nearly all times except when eating. He’ll purr when he gets attention in there, but flees as soon as he can if brought out to the living room for cuddles. His appetite seems fine, he’s just apparently a kitty hermit lately.

We’ve set a new record on one day and have been close on several days. I think the handwriting is on the wall as far as humanity driven climate change is concerned, and I don’t see anything that makes me believe we can reverse what seems to be the inevitable. My over/under on what I believe will be the collapse of civilization as we know it is 2100. I think I may be too generous with this.

And ears.

shoe - it’s not Grandma, it’s Busi! Except Roxy pronounces it like butchy. Tobias has it right, tho.

Daughter was a tad late getting off work so she didn’t claim her spawn till nearly 5. Luckily, supper was chicken-grape-apple-pecan salad and cuke salad, both of which were in the fridge ready to go! So once I got home and fed Higgs, I just needed to throw a some plates and forks on the table.

I have the sprinkler going on my veggie patch, tho I don’t know if it’s better to water early in the day or after the back yard is in shade. I saw several grape and cherry 'maters and 1 tiny beefsteak 'mater - all green. There are 4 cukes that will be picked this weekend, but the bell pepper plants are not doing anything. And if all the cantaloupe blossoms bear fruit, I don’t know what I’ll do! I have 5 very prolific plants.

Laundry tomorrow, chillage tonight.

All of the advice I got in the west was to water after the sun was down so the water could soak in over night to feed the roots.

No idea about Marrylande but I do know that we don’t even have a hose bib in the front yard, so I guess we don’t water our grass out here. It hasn’t even been two weeks since our lawn was last mowed but it’s gotten so shaggy looking that I’ve actually thought about reading the manual for our shiney new riding lawnmower. Then I would sit my ass down and smoke a few bowls and forget about the idea. If I do it once, he’s going to think that I can do it whenever he doesn’t feel like it and that is a serious non-starter for me.

The neighbor kittywampus behind us has a key to our back gate because he used to mow our place for the last owner. I might flag him down next time I see him out and ask him to give our lawn a trim because my husband isn’t here to do it for me. WV is very patriarchal but most of the wemens just play along cause everyone knows who is cooking dinner at night. Of course he’ll mow our lawn just to keep the neighborhood looking nice and won’t take the money I’ve offered because wemens can’t be expected to use a riding mower. HEAVENS NO!!!

I am really loving it here, it’s slower and more polite. Of course I haven’t been to Charleston yet, things might be different up there.

Thank you for asking. George really was settling in but usually spent most of his time in the same room I was in (or watching Hailey work) and then something happened in the kitchen/dining area last night. Now he’s slinking through to the laundry nook to use his litter box and then going back to the bedroom to hang out.

Whatever happened happened late at night because I went to bed around 11 and he was just fine then.

I put a bar chair under the dining room window and he liked to sit there and look out. I think he was looking out and something looked in at him. Or maybe he just saw his reflection and got spooked. Cats is teh weird, after all.

I think you are far too generous. I’m praying that things hold for twenty-five years, but that might be asking a bit too much.

We fled Arizona over the drought and the heat. Last year there were more than 40 record breaking heat days in a row and more are expected this year. Water is going up 300% in October. The power companies are still blocking and obstructing home solar systems while raising the price of power because people use more AC when it is over 115 every day.

I got fixed at 19 because I didn’t want to have a stake in the future. I knew it was going to get bad couldn’t justify bringing children into the world I saw.

Things are so much worse than 19 year old me imagined.

And a good early (7pm) evening to all. Guess that the drive down took more out of me than I thought, ended up napping and then embalming (where I am awake and aware but don’t move a muscle to get up because why?). Will get some sustenance here in a bit.

No problems with the drive, except for the folks in front of me suddenly braking at 75mph (no accident, just one of those ‘mystery slowdowns’ that happen sometimes), which did get my adrenaline flowing. Once south of Birmingham the interstate is surrounded on both sides by thick bunches of trees and very few signs of life, which made it a pretty boring drive. Still have enough gas in the car to make it to New Orleans, so got pretty good mileage.

Not going to discuss the heat, I still have some faith in humanity, we’ve survived as a species before this (albeit life may not be quite as good for those in centuries to come) and as an avid Science Fiction reader I have a perhaps misplaced optimism about human creativity.

Did do the Car Wash at Buc-ee’s, fairly cheap ($13) and the sunds were colored and at one point the mascot could be seen on my window, so got a little show with the wash.

Wheelie, enjoy the games.

JtC, glad you’re settling in. Wonder how the neighbors will react when they find you use the Wildwood Weed…disapproving or asking for samples?

7:30pm and I am hungry, so catch y’all later.

We’re not. I reheated the leftover snapper. Mrs. L.A. commented, ‘Mmmm! It’s more lemony.’ That’s because when I packed up the leftovers, I put the rosemary and lemon slices back on, and reheated them that way. She had the leftover yellow squash, and I had some store-brand broccoli. Not buying that again. The stalks were a bit tough. I’ll stick with florets. Wifey had two wedges of Laughing Cow cheese before dinner, and I had two after.

He’s not really eating much pet food right now. I’m scrambling eggs for him and he’s getting some poached chicken. Last night, I began the regimen of a peanut butter taco with a half a benedryl and he scarf that up. If his appetite doesn’t pick up, I’ll make him some chicken and rice with sweet potatoes and green beans this weekend. That has never failed to tempt him. His mother has a tendency of hot spots and skin issues. I hope that it isn’t genetic.

I bought a sheet of those the last time I was at the PO.

I read this as drink around in the yard and thought that you were channeling swampy. :stuck_out_tongue:

You got a hard copy manual for that? My car has a website.

For Nelson (likely wouldn’t work as well for a cat), I make a peanut butter taco. Tear off about a 3/4"X3" strip of tortilla, smear peanut butter on it, put the pill toward one end and roll like a cinnamon roll.

If you have Thornton’s on the way, they have fee free ATMs (plus some pretty good breakfast sandwiches).

Yeah, I’ve had enough of those divots removed from my ears, neck and shoulders from growing up truck farming and on the lakes back before sunscreen was commonly available.

Happy birthday sticky buns!

I think I’m all caught up.

At 1500 Tuesday, the twerp lead at irk announced that he wouldn’t be returning, that he had found other opportunities. Well, nice head’s up dude. That leaves a relatively new supe who just inherited a part of the department back and the second lead who has only been in our department for two weeks. Oh, well, retirement is getting closer.

On the homefront, Nelson was so off his feed that I couldn’t even tempt him with treats this morning. He was puny enough that I asked the lady who sometimes dogsits for him to come check on him a couple of times today (she has a key. Just in case my boy’s contagious, we didn’t want to expose her dog Max). I gave him a benedryl before I left, and she said he was still pretty sleepy when she checked him the first time. When she came back around noon, she brought him some boiled chicken, which he ate. By the time that I got home, he acted like he was feeling somewhat better. I made him a 6 oz hamburger to try to get some more calories in him (it’s amazing how much losing a pound or so makes such a difference in a dog his size), and he managed that and a couple of ounces of kibble, given as endless treats. Yay! He will still go to the vets tomorrow morning for the appointment that I booked.

rosie’s sig to anyone that I missed.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

New Housekeeper is a cop’s wife. She knows and doesn’t care. It’s almost legal here which means the people who make the rules are seeing how much tax money other states are getting and want to get some too. I don’t smoke inside when she is cleaning, that would be rude, but she sees me sitting on our porch and holding my pipe and lighter while I stare at the forest.

Trees are always good to look at. I’d rather look at trees than shopping malls or fast food places.

I’m glad the drive went well and hope the rest of your trip is equally good.

Speaking of trees, a couple of days ago, I heard the sound of a tree breaking in the woods. It was awesomely loud and long. Many of the trees shook and I couldn’t tell which tree had suffered but today the dead tree fell over enough that I could see it hung up on it’s neighbors.

Our Martins have flown so I’ll be calling the inspection company tomorrow. The toilet in the master bedroom is leaking water so the plumber is coming back out to fix it. Hailey will be over tomorrow to finish dealing with the wood floor in the master bedroom and the missing lamps will be delivered sometime tomorrow afternoon. (We made an offer on all of the lamps in the home and paid for them during escrow. When I got here, I saw that the two lamps I wanted the most were gone. I reached out to the realtor and asked her to contact the seller and she refused but gave me the sellers number. I texted her saying that the lamps were missing with a description and suggested that they were probably in the final rush loads they had to do without closing. She found them and everything is good.)

Indeed. My dad’s ears looked worse than a feral tomcat’s. I bought hubs one of these and let me tell you that he looks super smexy wearing sun protection.

Oh, poor lil guy and poor you. I hope that you are right, but it sounds like maybe not.

I don’t see hummer feeders on the neighbor’s houses. I know that there are hummers around and I remember MIL hanging feeders out so I don’t know what’s up with that.

Hubs is going to be here Saturday. I will be cooking on a 2 burner hot plate for another month due to the lack of installers for our kitchen so I’m a little limited with the menu. I figured I could cook sketties so went downtown for Italian sausages along with the other needed things. There are no Italian sausages in the local grocery sto. There are many different varieties of Polish sausages and several Cajon style sausages and smoked sausages. I bought the smoked sausages, I figure he’s going to be so beat up tired that he won’t care what he eats as long as I put a plate of semi low carb food in front of him. He’s just going to eat sausages and sauce and I brought our spices with me.
