(Old) Of Humid Bondage- A Heatwave MMP

Yay! Enjoy dinner.

JtC, glad to hear that your husband will arrive soon!

Well, we ended up having McDonald’s for dinner tonight since we are still planning on going out tomorrow evening.

Annie is ok. They ended up giving her a cortisone shot and expressed her glands in case they were a problem. They said she should be just fine, but they do always call and check on them the next day to see how they’re doing.

MusicMan ran to the store while we were at the vet. He was very sweet and just had to buy me a cake and ice cream and a 5 and 0 candle. Then, oops, the lighter was out of fluid. Ah well, it really is the thought that counts!

Thanks, everyone, for the birthday wishes!

Did you laugh like I just did? Yes, it really was the thought that mattered.

I’m glad Annie Is OK and hope you have no issues to report when they call you tomorrow.

Yup, a fat 500+ page manual, neat and tidy in a little cloth slipcover in the glove compartment. There also is a thin ‘quick guide to getting started driving’ brochure which covers the most basic things. I’ve already consulted both multiple times and I’m sure I’m not done yet. Still had the original window poster with the MSRP from when it was first sold 11 years ago folded up inside. Next I’ll have to whip out the fat 500+ page manual to figure out how to set and rest the trip odometer to 1. Keep track of miles driven since last gas fill up because the car obviously has a glitch somewhere in the fuel gauge system and the ‘time to refuel’ warning icon is not to be relied on (that cost me $225 dollars to find out less than two weeks and only a 104 miles driven since I bought with a putative 1/2+ tank of gas showing-yah don’t have to smite me twice!) and 2. that year of Outback is known for some/not all using a fair bit of oil precipitously and you want to check oil levels at least monthly (in my situation of having a bonked injured brain that’s easier to remember to do every X number of miles because my miles per month don’t vary very much. I may end up just making myself check the oil every fill up [gonna have to read the fat manual to learn the fidgety bits about how to do that too]. I have to remember to buy a quart or two of the right oil to have near to hand if that oil level shows up low, like it did when the oil light lit up LOW when I turned it on to drive it off the lot. It supposed had had an oil change at the local Suburu dealership just before the dealership wholesaled to the lot I bought it from yet popped up low 10 days and 50 miles later. The light hadn’t been on less than 2 weeks earlier when I test drove it.

After your comment I went on line and there is an online manual for mine too but there isn’t an index or page numbers in the online version. Still, lots better than no manual.

And glad Annie is OK.

Awwwwww!!!

Glad you enjoyed.

Spot sits in front of the baby gate, so he can signal to passers by how unfairly I treat him.

CBTs are rather boring.

Possibly.

Wildlife? But hope he settles in.

Or if it’s I95 in Florida at dusk, Cartel Cessna 182s flying 5 feet over your car.

Hope Nelson is OK, red.

Turned off both fans AND Coolio before leaving for work, since they’ve been slaving nonstop for days & I live in fear of the motor on the A/C burning out.

Came home to a predictably bleah home, and am esconsed in front of 2/3 of them now as they slave away again on “HI.”

Picked up a frozen pot pie on the way home, and since they had ezzactly ONE left of the specific salad I like, I tool that as a sign & got that too. Am currently awaiting Bat Time, but since it’s the longest day of the year, I gotta be patient!

ETA SHIT the 'skeeters found me! Oh, the irony …

The WHAT field?

This is an absolutely true statement.

This may not be the place for it, but I’ve long held a (rather simplistic) opinion that the key to peace in the Middle East is giving everyone - man, woman, child - a week’s time of simply having decent meals, cold clean water, and an air-conditioned place to sleep, all for everyone at the same time.

See if that calms tempers a bit.

Cuz a coupla thousand years’ worth of swamp ass, and sand where sand ought not to be, would make me pretty inclined to kill, too.

You’re probably used to leaving your windows cracked to let out some heat.

Either glue on rain guards, or start paying much closer attention to the weather forecast. Ask me how I know.

… and you haven’t whacked her yet? What happened, is the hittin’ cane still packed?

Like, that’s it?

Leave them on random people’s porches in the middle of the night?

(There’s a meme that goes around gardening groups around mid- to late-summer, with that suggestion. It’s specifically about zucchini each time I’ve seen it, but I suppose any prolific vine is a candidate.)

You ever considered being a marriage counselor?

And washing undies. In my experience, the more patriarchal men are, the less likely they are to know how to wash their own socks, and to consider underwear a one-time use thing, like paper towels.

Whelp, guess your new home is haunted. 'S okay, happens to a lot of us.

Gotta remember this one.

10:15 p.m. probably the latest I’ve seen 'em (makes sense, given solstice) and now it’s on to pot pie - oven on, whimper - plus some back-and-forth with my mother that I really can’t put off any longer. (It’s in my own best interest to have this convo with her, I promise.)

I know, I know, I could nuke the pot pie, but they’re better with a baked top.

… actually, never mind. Imma compromise & nuke it for about 1/3 of the time commanded, then oven bake it 'till the top looks done.

@Sticks_and_Scones

Happy Thorsday!

Went to the park this morning, for the first time in weeks.
Petey dad said he hasn’t seen anybody there in weeks, so of course today was grand central.

I hate summer stoltice. The days just got long and now they are heading for short again.

JtC, I’ve been taking gabapentin since Sept, so I doubt you will have to taper down GG for taking only a few pills.

Happy Belated Birthday, Sticky.

Happy Travels MetalMOuse

I am way behind on reading. We were out of power for a while today as the telephone pole across the road had to be replaced.

I finally saw the horse across the street today.
I was a little worried as I saw only one donkey, then the other donkey, but no horse.
The man over there had dug a deep hole in his yard and thought maybe Miss Horse was no more, But she was out there looking fat and sassy tonight.

I think the mastiff next door died. I haven’t seen or heard him in weeks.
A rabbit had moved in next door, which was making my dogs crazy. It would sit right next to the fence, not moving, even when I walked over. It was frozen in place, and that is when I noticed the two hawks circling overhead.

I hope Nelson gets better soon Red.

I did not hear it but Hubs tells me it stormed from 2:50am for about an hour or so. The suburb that he grew up in got annihilated; huge trees down on homes, cars, pulled out by their roots and of course, electricity knocked out. We were ok. It thundered for about 6 minutes this afternoon then rained for about 1/2 hour. Glad I didn’t wash the car this morning.

H a p p y B i r t h d a y S t i c k y !!! :birthday:

A lot of news today: my sister’s BIL died last night, he had been in the service in Vietnam, had developed pretty bad dementia. Our daughter has a root tear in her meniscus; surgery to be scheduled in about a month. Oh, and just received the 2nd of 3 postcards daughter sent from Italy.

FCM Truck looks good. Grandkidlets look adorable.

The real name is Guaranteed Rate Field. Don’t know if Wheels had a bad experience with them or just likes to make up a name similar to a mumper name.

Didn’t accomplish everything I wanted to but I did go for a walk this evening; started out about 9:10 and it was light. Hubs went with me. We ended up going just over 1-1/2 miles. I really had wanted to go further but Hubs wasn’t up to it. And the last 1/4 mile we were walking veeerrrry slowly. The sun had set during that last stretch and we enjoyed seeing the full moon.

I’ve finished the grocery list for tomorrow so time to hit the hay. 'Night all.

I agree that pie crusts have much better texture when done in the oven vs. the microwave.

Discourse wouldn’t let me post earlier. I must be on the Naughty list.

I had a bad night last night. I woke at 3 a.m. coughing so hard that I threw up en route to the bathroom and then in the proper place for such grossness. Nothing like cleaning carpet in the wee hours to wreck your sleep. I now have even more sympathy for cat owners who have to deal with hornked-up hairballs.

Yesterday I got a call from my brother. My SIL’s eye, which was doing so well after surgery on Monday, now has zero pressure, as in none. The docs are trying a last Hail Mary effort, but they are not optimistic. I feel awful for her and at least as awful for my brother, who of course is dispirited but is also subjected to my SIL’s misdirected wrath.

I took Ms. Dog for a walk to the nature trail this morning. She had a good time, but we were both melty by the time we got home. I put a few ice cubes in her water bowl and called it a cur-tail. She rolled her eyes.

Happy Birthday, sticks!

That’s a good point.

He looks like he’s posing for Playdog. Beautiful boys you have there!

That sounds grisly.

And that sounds horrific.

Also, I agree with the others that your answer was perfect: diplomatic, but easily read between the lines.

Those kids are so adorable! And Ms. R. looks more and more like you.

Red, I’m glad Nelson’s appetite is returning!

It’s official: you’re on another planet.

That seems like a very long wait. Will she be on crutches until then? Poor kid.

MetalMouse, continued wishes for safe travels!

I’m going to take a cool shower and head to bed.

The “fridge” convo with my mother is … inching forward.

We’ve aaaaalmost agreed on a model, the negotiations of which really could be a training exercise for U.N. diplomats.

Now we’re disagreeing on color.

Mom: “Model number blah-blah … do you want it in white, or stainless?”
Me: “Thank you! I’d prefer the black version, please.”
Mom: “Black shows dirt and stains!”
Me: “Worse than … white?” :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
Mom: “Well, get stainless then!”
Me: “I don’t want stainless. I own literally nothing in stainless, so it’s not like it would match.”
Note: the “matchy-matchy” isn’t important to me, but I thought maybe that one would work on her. I just don’t want stainless. It’s a pain, and frankly, I live in stainless at work … I’m good!

Also, to me, white fridge doors - even when the appliance works the same, identical specs etc - they just scream “cheap.”

Also pt 2, why can’t we have standard fridge offerings (not retro recreation for eyewatering $$, just your usual Frigidaire) in fun colors?
Bright cherry red? Blue-and-white checkerboard? C’mon, people would be all over that shit.
Yeah, yeah, maybe just a bit more expensive … but at least offer?

Plus - and here’s where we’ve stalled again, on actual logistics not just aesthetics - the door frame it’s gotta fit through measures slightly differently, depending on which side of the frame you’re standing at (yeah, the house def ain’t plumb) and the one she picked will either baaaaarely fit, or won’t, depending on a few details.

30.15 inches vs. 29.8885 inches (approx. but to give you an idea) for a fridge that’s spec at 30".

So, is that with, or without the doors in place, and if they hafta take the doors off, will they re-install them?
I have weaponized my mother to find out. One of her positive traits: she WILL do things.

So, we are literally inching towards a solution.

Aw, jeebus, that’s horrific luck all 'round.

May I suggest a small trash bin, triple-lined with those little grocery bags, right by the bed?
Save you a trip …

rolls up newspaper

Very well put: sometimes, ya gotta say things without actually saying the thing.

talky ya did good when put on the spot!

Wise advice.

In advance, I managed to put clean sheets/pillowcases on the bed, after a few rough nights lately that really necessitated new non-sweaty linens - while also wrangling more laundry, thankyouverymuch - so after pot pie is assimilated (and I possibly hit the corner sto’ for one of those teensy-tiny ice creams?) I shall follow nellie’s smart example.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Will I be dumping bags, or heaving Coolios above my head? Stay tuned!

A Vieux Cur-ré(the official cocktail of the MMP!)

Considering I know:
A Pepsi rep that drinks only Coke
An Utz chip rep that snacks on Pringles
A cook at the local Greek restaurant that prefers canned plain black olives
I understand.

I see what you did there.

I gotta hit the Likker Sto, buy cat food, and fish after work. I should add this to the list.

Also: Either The Invisible Mole People have breached the perimeter, or Spot has gone batshit insane.

CatGlove is correct about the stadium’s actual name. Guaranteed Rate is one of those Quik’n’EZ online loan companies. Though I have had no personal experience with them, I tend to believe that these sorts of outfits take advantage of the less fortunate, to put it kindly.

And while there’s a chance I’m wrong, I’ve also always hated corporate naming of sports venues, so I will be as harsh as I like, thankyouverymuch.

Could be both. Cats are weird.

My two managed to con me into serving a second canned gunk supper (they had polished off round 1 a few hours ago). Buddy’s eaten about half of the second round, Allie didn’t seem that interested once it was served. I’m sure more will be gone by morning. They do have free-feed kibble available at all times.

I thought about mini-pit, but y’all know my shit, and it’s too much trouble to explain the background.

I really could cry right now, I’m so p!$$ed off.

I went through a lot of $$ and trouble to get this Behemoth fucking fridge out. It was supposed to be picked up at o’dark o’clock (by my standard) tomorrow morning.
There was a $$ rebate promised by the electric co. for all my troubles.

Some scrapper STOLE IT OFF MY DRIVEWAY while I was at work tonight.

I’m so livid. I’m out the rebate money, and I guarantee imma get rudely awoken, at what I consider the butt-crack of dawn - on my Long Night, no less - even though I tried to cancel the pickup.

Fuck that asshole. And his friends (this was not a 1-man job) so I hope all of them get … fuck, don’t know how to finish that. But fuck 'em all.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 17c/62f with a predicted high of 21c/71f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Sure, it could be fucking warmer outside. But you could also have more fucking spiders in your hair. Count your fucking blessings.” OK, I’ll go with that!

Happy birthday, Sticky Buns - sorry to hear about the impending vet visit, but glad to hear that Annie’s ok. You’re right, you’d be too worried about her to properly enjoy your day, and there’s nothing wrong with spreading the celebrations out a bit longer.

That would be perfect. When your request gets approved, I’ll be packing up to move!

Moooom that boat seems to do nothing but cost you time and money rather than giving you any pleasure! Also, mum always watered the garden in the evening when the sun had gone - gives the plants a chance to soak up water overnight when it’s cooler. If you do it in the morning, the sun burns off most of the water before the plants have a chance to get a good drink.

That does sound like a long day and a lot of work, but the rewards will be worth it.

Fingers and toes crossed that he continues to improve! We hates it when our fuzzbutts is sick, we do.

Yay! I am sure he’ll be pleased to get himself settled in, and you’ll be just as pleased that he’s finally arrived.

nellie big hugs to you and your family, just because.

I had a mediocre commute home last night, did nothing productive aside from washing dishes and heating up leftovers for dinner. Had a reasonably early night, did not sleep very well, and was awake at stupid o’clock this morning. The commute into work wasn’t too bad either, campus is busy as we have an open day today so there’s hordes of people out there already.

Looks like a good day to stay in the office, and only nip out for 10 minutes later to get some lunch!

I read that as Ozempic trials and wondered how that would work…

Good to hear.

Well, that part is good. The other part about the fridge being stolen, not so much. I’m sorry. That is such a crappy and ridiculous thing for someone to do!

Annie and I are up and sitting on the couch getting ready to start working. MusicMan should be up in about 15 minutes.

I talked to my therapist about the job thing and she suggested that I send a follow-up email seeing if there was anything I needed to do in preparation. So, I sent one Tuesday evening and I have heard nothing since then. It’s more complicated than I care to share, but if they weren’t going to hire me, then I need to be there at a meeting on Monday. If they were, I don’t need to be there then. Hopefully I get some clarity today. My only other hope is to text the other person, sort of the second in command, and see what she thinks I should do. I don’t like putting her in the middle. Ugh.

Otherwise, tonight will be belated birthday dinner at one of my favorite hometown mom and pop places. I believe it used to be a truck stop kind of place as it was a 24 hour joint for many years. I’m looking forward to dinner and their chicken and dumpling soup!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 93 and N.O.S. for the day. The plan of the day is quality cee-mint pond time to include sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’. Sup shall be leftovers from Hump Day that need to get et up. A good day to be a RDOS.

JtC glad you are settlin’ in WV. Poor GG! Hope he gets over whatever spooked him soonest.

MetalMouse I 65 is especially borin’.at least the stretch from Monkey Town to Mobile/Gulf Shores which I have driven many times.

red maybe Nelson just needs some of mama’s home cookin’. Hope the vet can figure out what’s goin’ on.

StickyBuns yay for Annie bein’ better! MusicMan deserves major points for the cake and ice cream.

Nellie hope you are feelin’ better today. So sad about SIL’s eye. Hope the docs can do somethin’.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!
