Basement has been tidied and roll-sucked. I even sucked up the dead bugs on the stairs! So it’s ready for the grands to destroy on Thursday. I also, finally, damp-mopped the kitchen. And it’s not even 9!!!
FCD hopes to get to the airport by noon - his flight is just before 3. I’m hoping he’ll be here before 7.
I was on the 200 Slide most of the day. Not too bad workwise. One of the odder pieces of fallout was the glow in the dark cock ring. Management dragged out dragging over the damages, so I slid into OT territory. I did my Aldi run, and came home. Spot now like my bathroom sink:
Alphabetize your spices?
Good luck on the flight, Wheelie!
Pay would be even better.
That’s a really short section of fence. Is the wildlife that dumb up there?
Waffles this morning for a nice change. The wife’s 40+ year-old waffle maker still does a great job. Accompanied by Jones breakfast sausages.
We signed up for a produce basket at a local place. Unknown contents, but we’re picking it up this afternoon. Bad weather is rolling in tonight with possibility of some street flooding. Should be entertaining.
This is me, definitely not you. I am impressed by your responses. There have been a lot of times that I’ve wanted to respond and I have an idea of how I feel/want to say but I can’t find the right words then I see your responses and they’re worded so well. As a numbers person, I’m no where near as good with my wordsmithing.
It was so incredibly humid this morning that it felt like I was in a sauna as I walked to work. Had moderated a bit when I walked home. Ham & cheese with lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise on whole wheat toast for lunch. Been munching on a bag of fritos procrastinating before I get to the normal tasks at hand.
Dinner will be knockwurst, baked beans and homemade potato salad. The egg has been hard boiled, now need to wash and boil the potatoes, wash, then vinegarize and chop up all the veggies. I reread the booklet on after care and it said the low microbial diet has to be followed for 6 months to 1 year after transplant to help your body recover and prevent infection. I’m not about to take any chances with Hubs so a year it will be.
taters what an idyllic drive you had and fresh strawberries to boot; happy for you!
Every few years I take them all out and inventory them with an alphabetized list showing how much is left in each but they are returned to the cupboard with all the spices used in ‘sweet’ cooking on the left and savory spices on the right with the ones used most frequently toward the front.
I had three things on my list. Three. Cat litter from PetSmart, and coffee pods and refrigerated kosher dills from Trader Joe’s. (Plus a case of Four Buck Chuck, plus my Cobb salad.) Got the cat litter, got the wine, got some string cheese for when I’m in the office, got some Laughing Cow cheese because Wifey likes it, got four Haas avocados inna bag, and I got my lunch. I was almost back to the orifice before I realised I’d forgotten the pickles.
On the other hand… I get Juneteenth off tomorrow. And it’s supposed to be sunny with temperatures in the 60s. And I have that new motorcycle jacket I got for my birthday.
Training was ok. I did fail a quiz or 2 but at least I could navigate it.
I had forgotten to ask how much pay is. 12 an hour.
When I left I got anything half price, thats what they offer. I got what would’ve been 1.19 for .59. Kindof petty when at the other job, I sat there an hour and they gave me a meal gratis.
Just made it home before the t storm hit.
Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it stays until it gets dirty again. It never ends! Tummy has felt iffy today, so no quality cee-mint pond. Inside in the a/c seemed the wisest choice. Thus nappage was accomplished. No day drinkin’ either due to iffy tummy. I did eat a hot dog with some mustard and cheese (shut up I like 'em that way!) when we early supped. So far so good.
Taters glad you had a nice and uneventful drive yesterday. Don’t worry about replyin’ to posts. I try, but it is hard to keep up. I have been a failure at it the past couple of days, but there were so dang many post yesterday!
Lucky that burger sounds nummy! Happy window washin’. I have never been to a HomeGoods store. OK, there is not one in these parts, at least to my knowledge, so that’s my excuse.
Coppertone hope the trainin’ works out.
Wheelie I confess to not keepin’ up. Is this a irk or fun trip?
MetalMouse do remember clothes. They are a must, even in N’awlins.
JtC I agree that it’s time to wield the cane and fuss at the movers.
MOOOOOOM hope FCD and MIL have an uneventful trip home.
i went out into the noon day sun to hunt down some sort of bread so i could make a sandwich. the heat felt sooooooo good. i knew i was cold from the office. wow! it was so wonderful.
i found foo foo bread at some crazy french bakery thing, a block away (9 slices for 6 dollars, this is what happens when you forget the amaroso roll at home). walked back to the building enjoying the heat, still thawing out.
the bread was alright…, not as good as the roll or jewish rye. back to being frozen and looking forward to going out in the heat to thaw.
Hi all - Midafternoon Tue here as I survey the 60(!) posts since yesterday morning when last I was caught up. Warm sunny almost cloudless calm afternoon here. Nice and toasty warm.
Had a nice balconatin’ sunbath yesterday late morning. Took myself out for happy hour dinner on what I thought was a lovely afternoon / evening that should afford a good crowd to yak with. Everywhere I went was dead, dead, dead. I guess they used up all their conviviality on Sunday w Dad. Anyhow, a nice meal & wine was had, followed by a stop at the bourbon and stogie spot, and then home to bed.
Our town within the ginormous suburb-o-blob is about 5 miles square, with a central dense shopping & entertainment core about 1-1/2 by 1/2 mi. I live in one extreme corner, frankly the least lively corner, of the core. So the core is walkable for me, but with an extra ~1/2 mile overhead until I get into the thick of things. Which overhead can be an obstacle to walking versus driving when dressed up to kill and it’s hot and sunny out.
Yesterday the city announced the beginning of a somehow subsidized ride system open to everyone. Just like Uber except the fare is … zero for any ride wholly within the core. A ride between core and periphery is $1 each way and all rides must begin or end in the core. So I can now get anywhere in the core for just an optional tip, despite heat of day or driving rain. And get anywhere else in town and back home again for $2 plus optional tips. One could live most of one’s older life within this confine, although I sure don’t intend to limit myself to that anytime soon.
Anyhow I tested it last night, first riding from home to dinner at the very far opposite end of the core, then later when it had started to rain I rode it back about 2/3rds of the way home to the cigar joint then finally walking the last bit home a couple hours after the rain had quit. Worked slick. App is about like Uber’s, so familiar and easy to use. Once summoned, a shiny new electric Kia sedan arrived in 4-ish minutes to silently whisk me to where I was going. They also have those overgrown 8-passenger open air golf cart things. This is run by a commercial operator that has contracts with dense urban or tourist cores all over the country: Circuit - Your Local Electric Shuttle
I have felt silly in the past starting the car to go not even a mile when the real goal is to avoid sweating out my clean shirt before I get there. This seems a perfect solution to that, if the sponsors find it worth continuing. Here’s hoping. MeanwhileI’ll do what I can to increase their ridership and say nice things about them. Yaay!!1!
Today Tue I arose pre-dawn and mostly fiddled through the morning. Late morning after a fine breakfast of eggs, grilled pastrami, and potato pancakes, I met my PCP for my quarterly well-baby visit. No concerns there. And ref our earlier convo’s about stupid Medicare questionnaires and wasted visits, we had none of that either. Maybe next time. I did get a really good hug though. She’s a very round woman and awesome at hugging.
Morning at home included a longish yak with BB who has survived her first overnight back at work last night. We’ve confirmed her world is back together enough that we’re still on for a long-arranged staycation down near her over this Thu-Sat. I’d hoped that would work out, but it could have gone the other way and I’d have agreed to cancel in deference to her needs without external protest, but with lots of disappointment inside. Now that won’t be necessary. We (mostly she) has some fun activities planned besides the obvious one. Yaay!
On the way back from the PCP I returned a pile of drawer & cabinet organizer gizmos I’d overbought as I was experimenting my way into getting everything organized logically and efficiently in the apartment. There’s something doubly satisfying about removing clutter consisting of unused organizers. Plus, refund money! Yaay!
Then I stopped at the kosher grocery store for bacon.
It’s not really a kosher grocery store, although everybody calls it that. Rather it’s a large Winn-Dixie in the heart of our large devout / Orthodox Jewish neighborhood. So they have more than a couple aisles dedicated to kosher foods, and in fact have two completely separate deli counter / kitchen / bakery facilities: one fully kosher, one prominently labeled not. But they, like every Winn-Dixie, do stock my favorite type of bacon.
It happens to be near the PCP’s office, but is otherwise aways off my day-to-day beaten track. Today however, it was right on my way. So in I went.
I admit to feeling vaguely odd standing in line between two men wearing yarmulkes carrying my bacon and no other purchases. There’s a fine line between a funny juxtaposition and an offensive nose-thumbing in the face. They seemed unconcerned; probably never noticed me or my bacon at all.
Anyhow, now with kosher-adjacent bacon in hand tomorrow there shall be baconated balconatin’ and maybe even balconated baconatin’.
In other happy news HL has completed the very last step of the very last thing she needs to do to untangle us, and I’ve now completed all my responses to that too. All we need is clearance from the lawyers for me to pay off her car, us both to sign the separation / settlement agreement, and they can file the court petition for dissolution. So close and yet so far.
Other than that, life here is simple.
As to y’all, and this will be a small sample of 60-some posts …
@Wheelz: Enjoy IL and family. Fun is where you find it.
Canada geese are present in FL but pretty rare around greater Miami. Certainly not the ubiquitous nuisance they were in St. Louis. The Egyptian Goose is more common: about the same size as a Canada, much prettier coloration, and a much, much nicer disposition. We see those fairly regularly. Here’s more 8 Types Of Geese In Florida (Photo And ID Guide) (birdadvisors.com) for the birders in the crowd.
Golf is a game designed by a sadistic madman. It’s inherently hard to play: the sticks are weird and awkward, the ball is small, the playing field is ginourmous, and the goal is teeny. And moves from day to day. Then they put trees and ponds and sand dunes and sandpits and tall grass (and sometimes alligators) in the way to make it harder yet. Bastards. It does make nice bird habitat though, so there is that. Iguanas love golf courses too.
???!? I guess that policy saves you a lot on long distance though?
You are a very special kind of devious evil. I admire that in a person.
Best news of the thread! Yaay!
No. On the beach in So Cal between Los Angeles and San Diego. A sunny but not really warm place. The first time in my entire life I was not cold was when I moved to Oklahoma in the summer after college. Froze my ass off that first winter though, as that was also pretty much my first exposure to temps below 50F.
“We used to keep black people as slaves. Then we got smarter and stopped doing that. The government passed a law making slavery illegal. Juneteenth is the anniversary of that good day. Black people have celebrated it for 150 years now; white people are just starting to celebrate it now.”
The “why” behind all that is the work of a semester. I don’t envy you trying to explain that to a Ukrainian.
Gaah!!! Like BBBoo said, the rental of a trailer to drag them cross country will be more than the difference in price between selling the old there and buying new here. With enough cane-waiving I bet the movers will move them for you.
Were you a competitive swimmer? Not a lot of folks find aquatics worthy of 5 minutes, much less a couple of nights.
Same reason a statistics professor always used to carry a bomb while travelling by air. He figured “What are the odds of two bombs on one airplane?”
That sounds absolutely spectacular.
It’s now my favorite too and I just heard of them. Yaay!
Over the years I realized that the moment I started ad libbing stuff into my cart I’d forget all about the list. Inevitably leading to forgotten e.g. pickles.
My solution? As I ad lib something into the cart, add it to the list and check it off. Keeps your mind in the list. Or at least it does mine.
And I feel so much more productive coming home with a list with 10 things checked off instead of just the original 4. Even better when the extra 6 aren’t all snacks, just mostly. Although that’s especially hard to avoid at TJs.
This. Bravo for what ought to be a great ride!! Net of any surprise Honey-doos on a nice day.
Preach it! Story of my life: freeze indoors, thaw outdoors. Lather rinse repeat.
Quintuple Yaay!!! I know you’ve been updating us all day long in anticipation. Hooray for a joyous reunion. We all like to grouse about spouses, but boy we all miss 'em when they’re gone for awhile.
Back as to me …
Next up here is become presentable for public again then head out for dinner. Might do Tacos on Tuesday or ??? If I choose someplace around here I can give free not-uber another test run.
Cheers to all and especial reunion cheers to FCM!!
Afternoon all. Did make it to the gym and pedaled considerable calories off while watching the Euro Soccer championships, came home and had an apple and a couple White Castles to take the edge off my appetite, Mac-n-Cheese will be sometime later tonight. Also made a morning trip to Target and ended up with 2 new pairs of shorts for vacation time. Packing list has been made and mail has been stopped, so at least I’ve accomplished that much. 88F outside so not quite as hot as predicted but it looks like a hot weekend down around Mobile and New Orleans, so those shorts will come in handy.
FCM, glad FCD is back in Merry-land, he’ll probably be glad to be home.
Tride, I’m guessing that’s a picture from today? Slightly different definition of summer than I am used too…
doggio, Sink Cat is cute.
Cookie, sounds somewhat like what JtC had out Arizona way. Hope you got the good stuff.
Flyboy, that’s why I still carry a written list to the store; have done the same thing too many times to count.
swampy, hope you’re feeling better.
rocky, had to look up Foo Foo bread, I think it was Fu Fu, whatever it be, enjoy it. Rye bread is about as adventerous as I get. And if you want heat, come on down to Ali-bama…
Pilot, that’s an interesting transit concept, I presume it’s to try and cut back on traffic in the core, hope it works out. And hope you and BB can make connections soon. And the bacon story had me grinning. And as for you comments on golf, here’s a clip of the late comedian Robin Williams on how the Scot’s invented golf (NSFW!!). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIYJKIIDxSI
Hippie, great work.
And looks like it’s about dinner time, will check the mailbox and get the Mac going.
