(Old) Oh, Eh? Can You See? - A Holiday MMP

So today is Canada Day, and also NHL Free Agency Day(aka, more regret and lost money than a celebrity divorce day), and Thursday is (U.S.)Independence Day. Any Mumpers who aren’t RDOSes getting time off this week? I get Thursday off, at least. Which is a nice change from retail where holidays mean more work.
Anyways, I’m up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. [Linda Richman]Talk amongst yourselves: “Palmolive, it’s neither palm nor olive. Discuss.”[Linda Richman]

First!!! Ha, take that, fellow juveniles.

From last week …

I’m so flattered!

ETA: that thread title is a thing of poetic beauty, doggio

< takes a bow >

It’s Canada Day, you say? After enduring three nights of intermittent fireworks since Friday on the Canada Day long weekend, and at least one more to come, believe me, I know!

But now, with the Canada Day long weekend nearing an end and the Fourth of July fast approaching, it is with all my sympathies that I pass the burden of having to endure fireworks to my American friends. Be kind to your dogs as they cower under desks, and remember that it will soon pass.

And as much as I truly do sympathize with having to put up with the curse of fireworks, I admit that as July 1 moves on toward July 4, and silence finally falls on this our native land, the True North strong and free, I look to America where the fireworks are even now being amassed, and I think to myself, better you than me, eh?

Yes, great title! Its a beauty way to go.
I am off Thursday as the bus’s are not running.
Weird I got up having to go, last night I slept 7 hours straight.

KABOOM!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/57f with a predicted high of 15c/57f and cloudy. Weather app says “The fucking clouds are all lurking outside and acting like total fucking douche waffles.” Guess that means Weather App is not a fan of clouds.

No public holidays for me, we don’t celebrate the loss of you ungrateful Colonials  However, we are using that day to elect ourselves a new Idiot-in-Chief. I have a postal vote so I’ve done my civic duty already, just hoping things go my way on Thursday. I’m on leave on Friday too as we’re off to a music festival over the weekend, so two short-ish weeks for me.

Yesterday’s event at the cricket club went quite well. The weather was cool and looked like there would be rain all day but there wasn’t any. Not hugely well-attended but a decent crowd, and we raised just over £200 so that will keep the kitties fed and medicated for a week or two.

Evening mumpers.
It’s 18:30, we have largely finished with the day.
Sydney was no pretty lady in the past circadian cycle. It was about 42 merricun this morning and intermittent showers probably too light to be described as drizzle so the portmanteau mizzle fits the bill nicely. Saturday’s washing remains on the Hills Hoist, probably wetter than it went on.

Second week of working with the boss away on five weeks leave in Europe.
Of no surprise, am getting through a metric shedload more work without the incumbrancers and embuggerances of normal office life.

Alas it comes to an end, but actually with further improvement. How so? Well it’s the theme of the OP. End of this week I fly out to Sri Lanka as part of a cricket tour for two weeks. Mainly staying around Colombo with a diversion into the hinterland to venues surrounded by tea plantations. Positively bucolic, methinks. I’ve never been anywhere near there so an education will be had. Taking a reasonably strong squad, but I suspect to locals will kick our arses in. I’m not playing; just a camp follower, scribe, photographer, scorer and what not.

Probably should start making arrangements to pack.
See ya next week from your hemisphere.

I was wondering about the decision to do the vote on July 4th. Seems a bit cheeky.

@missred Gorgeous Halloween cards.

Oops, IT is done with my computer. Gotta go back to work.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 79 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 94 with light rain showers later in the day. We shall see. No biggie plans for the day other than some quality cee-mint pond with sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’, as weather permits. I took ribs outta da freezer to begin’ thawin’ so’s they can be smoked on Hump Day. The newspaper did print a big enough retraction, so hopefully the great unwashed will not show up en masse on Thursday. Sup shall be my famous Eyetalian chikin, peas ‘n carrots, wild rice, and rolls. Borin’ but gets us fed. I suppose the pyromaniacs will start shootin’ off fireworks for the next four days.

red the cards are tres chic!

pup glad you have almost survived the Canadian pyromaniacs. Happy Canada Day!

BooFae glad the event went well. Yay for upcomin’ music festival and shortish weeks.

thule that looks to be a fun trip. Watch out for the pointy stick wieldin’ Sri Lankan ninja spiders. I’ll let someone else explain that.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all! Happy Canada Day all you Canadian Mumpers!

Does campaigning for the position start the day after said Idiot is sworn in? To me, that’s one of the most irritating things about elections here - the campaigns last for-freekin’-ever! By the time election day rolls around, I just want them and all the pollsters to go away. < end of rant >

I almost wish I hadn’t retired so I could use this in the office!

We had one hellacious t-storm move thru last night, but the repeat promised for midnight-ish didn’t happen. Still, my veggies got a good drink, so no sprinker today.

On the other hand, BIL got himself squarely on MIL’s list. I don’t know if I’d mentioned that he’s had frequent seizures over the years, even tho he denies they happen. In his world, if he doesn’t remember it then it never occurred. But his neurologist found evidence of repeated seizures, and, of course, BIL doesn’t take his meds. Plus, there’s his threat to off himself.

Well, last night, MIL tried calling him 3 or 4 times and he didn’t answer. By 10PM she’d worked herself into a bit of a lather, so FCD drove her to BIL’s apartment, expecting the worst. Nope, he was watching TV. He just wouldn’t answer his phone. MIL told him she’d not be calling him any more - if he wanted to talk to her, he’d have to call. It was closing in on 11 when they got home. So that’s how our weekend ended.

It’s cool (65°) and breezy this morning. After the hospice nurse comes to see MIL, FCD and I will head to the boat to do some measurements, then to the other boatyard to retrieve the overgrown structure. It’s only supposed to hit 80° today - a good day for sweaty outdoor work.

Speaking of fireworks, Daughter was a tad miffed at the show they attended. She wasn’t aware and they either didn’t announce or she missed the announcement that as soon as the national anthem finished, the fireworks would start. Roxy had her earmuffs on, but Tobias didn’t. And they had Trevor with them and he was rather displeased by the noise, tho he mostly just lay there, not shaking but not particularly happy.

I don’t know if we’ll be going to the stadium on Thursday or not. I should probably check to see if it’s sold out. Even if we don’t stay for the boom-booms, they’ll have bounce houses and a band and stuff for the kids for a few hours. And, of course, there’s weather, so we may not decide till that afternoon.

And so far, I haven’t heard anything in the neighborhood or nearby. Hard to tell if the 4th being Thursday will mean anything because folks will be working in the days leading up. I guess we’ll see when we see.

Anyway, Happy Moanday and Happy July. We’re halfway thru 2024…

Morning all. Sitting waiting for the shuttle bus from my hotel to the airport, where I will catch a CTA train downtown for a 10am tour which should get me back here about 1pm, plenty of time to get lunch and turn in the rental car before catching the Metro train to the station for my Amtrak to New Orleans. So a busy day and hopefully Murphy is nowhere to be seen.

Have a good and not to noisy week.

Well, you just jinxed your whole day!!!

Enjoy!!

Happy Monday!

Today I will be getting my new washer and dryer. No more laundromats!!! I’ve considered going downtown and getting some fireworks to set off during the first spin cycle, but it’s supposed to rain this afternoon.

Despite seeing firework stands all over, I haven’t heard or seen fireworks yet. That doesn’t mean that Thursday won’t sound like WWIII, but it is a hopeful sign. (I’m not nearly as scared of fireworks now as in AZ. Our yard is green, we have a metal roof and the fire risk here is really low.)

I am happy that GG isn’t hearing constant fireworks, the poor lil dude hasn’t had a good couple of months (he’s lost two pounds) and is only now settling in. I think he’s still depressed, though. He’s sleeping a whole lot more than he used to.

FCM, did BIL say anything about why he wasn’t answering the phone? Is this over the loss of his DL?

Well, hubs just got the call that our w/d is on the way so I’m going to sweep out the laundry room before they get here.

Are you getting close to settled enough to find his new sibling? Sounds like he needs another cat around.

We are hoping to have a new feline overlord next week. She will live in my room for a few weeks while they meet each other under the door so GG doesn’t overwhelm her with enthusiasm the first time they meet face to face.

As far as I could gather, he just didn’t want to talk to anyone. Honestly, it’s always been difficult to know what’s going on in his head. FIL was his main sounding board, and he’s been gone a year anna half - I suspect that’s yet another factor.

FCD is going to call the hospital today and get the contact info for his brother’s caseworker. As BIL’s medical power of attorney, that shouldn’t be a problem, tho they might need him to show up - dunno. But the caseworker needs to know what’s going on from someone other than BIL.

Dang - that’s an early delivery! Beats waiting all day for “sometime between 9 and 5” Yay for in-home laundry!!

Well, it’s almost 8 - I really need to shower and dress. Dammit.

Hooray for washer and dryer!

Good morning everyone!

I’ve been up and working for awhile. Annie, of course, has been supervising. Later on today she’ll be going for a day at the spa.

I had sent my resume in for a job in an administrative-ish position last week. They emailed me back saying that they’d like to interview me, but the pay was ridiculously low. I wrote back saying, nicely, that I was unable to work for that amount due to family circumstances. She wrote back yesterday asking me what I was looking for saying that they might be able to accommodate a higher wage. I honestly don’t know if they could handle what I need to make, but I guess it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Ok, back to work for me!

Weather for the 4th has changed from partly cloudy to thunderstorms, so I’m thinking that the family get together may be cancelled. Or at least the venue changed to someone’s home.

Good visit from the wife’s niece yesterday. We went out for Korean.

Too early to tell how today will be. Carry on.
