(Old) Oh, Eh? Can You See? - A Holiday MMP

**Happy Treason Day, Ungrateful Colonials!"

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/53f with a predicted high of 17c/62f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Asking someone to be fucking positive about the weather is like asking them to fucking smile more. It’s totally fucking annoying.” Hmm…someone’s not happy today then

It’s sunny out there, but there’s a pretty strong wind blowing so there’s a good breeze coming through the window by my desk. Today is my Friday, I am off tomorrow as we are heading up to a music festival. It will be fun, lots of gig friends are going so it’ll be nice to catch up with them.

VanGo Did you get to see your doc about the numbness in your extremities?

Moooom Yay for hopeful news on BIL, sounds like the CEO has been through similar times before, and it’s good that FCD knows what the options are. Also yay on the weather and staying away from the fireworks!

JtC I’d say it was worth the money to ship GG’s old scratcher, he should be much more settled now he has his familiar nest and something that smells so much of home.

Pilot I think you and BB are going to need a conversation sometime soon, especially given that her life circumstances dictate the small amount of time she has to spare for you.

sari Sorry to hear you had a disturbed night, that’s never a good thing. Fingers crossed you sleep better tonight.

metalmouse Glad you made it home safely and without any unnecessary drama.

Swampy Have a faaaabulous day with your friends, I hope you’ve got a suitably clad bouncer on the gate, just in case!

As predicted yesterday, very little actual work was done as I was too busy being out of the office doing other stuff. The College Forum in the morning was as boring as I’d expected it was going to be, but I showed my face at an official event so I’m good for a couple of months. I did get to chat with a couple of friends so that was nice. Plus there was tea and cake, always a bonus.

In the afternoon, I did a short training session for some newbies. I knew one of the ladies as I’d covered a job for her quite recently although that role came to an end and she’s now moved into something completely new (which is why she was at my training session). The other people were incredibly new, one of them only started working at the uni on Tuesday!

My midweek pub night friends were away this week so 'im indoors and I went to our favourite local pub with a Nepalese chef and had yummy curry for dinner. There were a couple of adult beverages too, because it was midweek pub night. Tradition, y’know…

Today I have very little in my calendar, I’m meeting a friend for lunch as we’re both on campus today, and I have to spiff up yesterday’s training notes so I can send them out - they were more of a script for me, so I’ll add in some screenshots and make 'em look a bit more presentable.

Tonight the reserve catsitter is popping round to meet the mogs, our usual lady is away with her family but she’d already taken the booking from me so someone else from Kitty Angels will be looking after our little furry trio. We’re away from Friday to Monday afternoon so I need to pack and have a conversation with 'im indoors about t-shirts so we don’t wear the same thing on the same day!

hey, hows the vote going or has it started yet?

Shady, the polls opened early this morning and are due to close about 10pm so we won’t have a result until tomorrow. Once the polls close, counting starts and we’ll start to see individual areas posting their results online. Then it’s a case of seeing which party has the largest number of seats in the House. I’m hoping this sees us with a new prime minister to take the piss out of

well it was predicted to be 1 the hugest turnout in years and 2 the biggest one-sided pasting since Winston was elected in the 40s

I’m hoping for a decent turnout, our more recent elections at local levels have been absolutely appalling. I think the turnout for our council election was only 20%. The real problem for voters here is that it’s pretty much a two-horse race between Conservative and Labour - there are a bunch of other parties to vote for (there are 8 candidates in my constituency) but voting for any of the other 6 would be a waste because they can’t realistically out-do the main two.

(makes two-fingered gesture toward Imperialist Oppressors)

Cake is always a good thing.

Woke just before 5, so I’m glad Daughter opted to come over here tonight. I’ll run to Food Lion shortly - we decided on sliders for supper and I need to get some sparklers. Along with the sliders, we’ll have potato chips, pickles, sliced 'maters, and assorted fruit, so semi-healthy. Daughter is bringing dessert.

I’ve got several planters/buckets of dirt and I’m going to let the kids “plant” the sparklers, then place them on the gravel in front of FCD’s shop (not too close to the shop, of course) and I’ll have the hose nearby and ready. Once it’s dark-ish, we’ll light them off I think the kids will enjoy it. When we were kids, we actually waved the sparklers around, but that ain’t happening. And there won’t be booms to set off the doggehs (yes, Trevor will be coming with them. SIL has to work.)

Depending what site you consult, chance of rain is anywhere from 20% to 50% but all sites agree they will be passing showers, so nothing predicted to settle in. And as far as I know, nothing skybound close enough for us to see from the yard, unless some neighbors go crazy.

I should rollsuck plus make sure the basement is ready for the invasion of the grands. FCD will be working in his shop making parts for the transformer panel. With luck, we’ll get it installed this weekend. Not sure what else will come up. But, of course, something will.

Happy Thursday and Happy :sparkler: :firecracker: :fireworks: :hotdog: :hamburger: :cup_with_straw: :watermelon: !

I am up and walking like a zombie because it hurts less that way. No big plans for today. More later…

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 78 Amurrkin out and mostly N.O.S. with a predicted high of 92 and mostly N.O.S. until late afternoon when light rain showers are predicted. We shall see. Should be nice for some quality cee-mint pond time frollickin’, so yay for that. Folks should show up around elevenish and I foresee feedin’ time around four this afternoon. Ribs will go into the big slow cooker thingy to warm up in just a little while. Baked beans need about an hour to cook in the oven. The corn needs to be cooked and the garlic bread toasted but neither of those takes long to do. Various noshes shall be brought by others and there will be watermelon for dessert. I predict much silliness and merriment out by the cee-mint pond. There were some boom booms last night but they were pretty much over by ten p.m. We shall see what today brings.

I had a post written but it got et up, so I will endeavor to make individual replies later. Just don’t have the energy or inclination to retype it all right now.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose it will be necessary to look reasonably put together before company arrives. A good host is always shevelled for one’s guests, after all.

Happy Thursday Y’all! Happy Fourth of July, or if you are BooFae “Happy Treason Day, Ungrateful Colonials!”

Mornin all. 815 on a warm sunny tropical day as I start driveling.

I still have yet to hear any amateur fireworks. Nor, ref poor sari, any barking dogs. But nonetheless despite feeling exhausted and eagerly going to bed at 10pm to quickly fall asleep I then slept notso hotso and awoke for good a bit after 4am. Ouch. Nappage will be necessary later this morning. Just like sari.

JtC Hooray for bed and the other progress. The cat scratcher story was touching. As was the climb into bed between my humans.

FCM, if fairy tales are to be believed it’s the mean old relatives who usually get their wish. Congrats on avoiding the stadium.

I understand and agree, both then and now, with her concern. Hers was just more front-of mind than my own was, given my general “what me worry?” attitude to everything about everything. As my late wife used to affectionately say: you play the “Devil-may-care flying fool” real well.

The fact each of us has been largely entirely out of circulation for decades is not what either would have reasonably expected from the other given where and how we met and how quickly the sparks (and sheets) were flying. But is the truth that has emerged for both of us.

To date.

And in related news, this morning Thu I find out she won’t be coming up Fri as she had said was likely. “Next weekend for sure!” With a smidgen of displeasure I replied I’d really rather hear “no” than “maybe”; now I’ve lost the opportunity to plan anything for this weekend since I’d reserved it for you. Sigh.

As to all other MMPers who’ve recently commented so helpfully and supportively on my plight: Thanks for the good wishes, and yes, this needs to be addressed soon. I can be guilty of absorbing repeated bad news with equanimity then making a surprisingly hard turn when my capacity for graceful accommodation is finally and suddenly filled to its brim. That’s not fair to the other person.

OTOH, I want to have this conversation in person, and in-person recently has seemed to be a carrot and stick ever-receding target. Not that I think that is deliberate or of false origins, but it just working out that way still leaves me with a conumdrum on how / when to address it.

Shoe: Thanks for last night’s dump of recent customer WTF stories. Sorry this most immediate last night was a very late understaffed overworked shitshow for you.

boofae: nice to see at least some people are keeping the true 4th spirit alive! Yaay for midweek pub night and boo for work in all its vexations. Best of luck on a new Government and a non-clown PM.

Cheers all! Off to start my day …

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. I dreamed I had to take a shower in the creek, the Small Sup floated by on a piece of plywood, and a deer and a beagle followed me back to the apartment, and took up residence. Off today. I didn’t hear any fireworks last night, which is weird because usually someone is firing off ordnance for things like The Feast Of Our Lady of Guadalupe. But I shall sloth, and do my Teeter shopping, since it is Senior Day.

So I take it you’re not backing The Monster Raving Looney Party at this point? But good luck on getting a better Supreme Idiot.

Nest you’ll be telling me that y’all don’t grow your own wheat for the dough.

Feel better, sticky!

So a freshly ironed wifebeater, and the gold lamé thong?

I don’t have a Monster Raving Loony Party candidate in my constituency. I almost considered moving so I could register to vote elsewhere and have Count Binface as my MP!

Happy 4th from a coffee swilling traitor

It was so nice sleeping in our own bed again. My side is a little firm so I’ll let some water out when Hubs is able to watch the other end of the hose. (Damn cat.)

GG spent the night between us. He purrs in his sleep.

We haven’t heard any fireworks yet. I boiled up a pot of potatoes last night so I can make potato salad for the BBQ at the neighbor’s place. Kinship is strange out here. Hubs’ Grandma Hodges went to school with the neighbor’s Great Uncle Charles which makes Hubs and neighbor kinfolk. As I am married to Hubs, I am automatically kin to Great Uncle Charles as well and now have an entire new branch in my family to memorize, LOL!!!

No fireworks are planned for the BBQ, most of us are too old to stay up that late anymore. Ronald (neighbor on the other side) has food issues and can only eat certain textures without gagging (he doesn’t like to eat around people for that reason) and one of his safe foods is cottage cheese. I made two small batches last night (I love having my stuff!), one with firm curds and one with very soft curds for him to try.

GG is napping in his crow’s nest, this is starting out to be a great day.

Don’t be coy - we know you always look faaaaaaabulous!

FCD and I ran to Leonardtown together - he dropped me off to get groceries while he ran to the hardware store for, um, hardware. When we got home, MIL was still abed, which is unusual, but I’m glad she’s not insisting on getting up early for no reason.

I’ve made a platter of sliders to be cooked up for supper, with or without cheese. I couldn’t find the buns I wanted, so I bought some weenie buns that I’ll cut in half - they’ll work. I need to slice some 'maters and find the jar of pickle chips, slice some onions and sauté some more onions, and I think that should cover all our slider enhancement needs. I also got some ripple chips, plus a container of pineapple chunks for a healthy side/snack.

Daughter will bring her crew over after Tobias naps, so probably 3-ish. And it should be dark-ish enough around 8 to light off the sparklers. That way, they can get home and to bed at a reasonable hour to get sleep before work/school/camp tomorrow. And I can get to sleep, too, since I woke stupid early.

FCD is in his shop and I’m going to read since MIL is still abed.

Spot twitches the drum bit from Hot For Teacher on my skull.

Good morning, and happy 4th!

It’s currently 58F and sunny outside. I’ll have to get outside and commence watering very soon. It’ll be sunny all day, with a high temperature of around 84F.

It’ll be loud and smoky around here soon enough. Last year, they started letting off fireworks at 10:00 a.m. That’s so stupid. Some people around the neighborhood started the celebration last night and were letting off much less than legal fireworks.

The good news is that it doesn’t seem to bother the pups overly much, but they do kind of startle and sit up at the big booms. Fortunately, I can calm them quickly and easily. We’ll see how tonight goes. It’s a shame I’ll have to shut all the windows tonight. That’s another reason I prefer it’s cool and wet on the 4th. It sucks not to have AC and have to shut your windows when it’s hot.

Where has our sweet Nellie been? I miss her!

I think I should hustle over to Safeway in about 30 minutes or so and grab some groceries. I have a hankering for salad and need sammich fixin’s. I also am craving a BLT, so I’ll need some bacon.

Yay for progress on unpacking, JtC! Also, yay for a happy and more contented GG! I’ll bet you ALL slept a little better last night.

FCM, I’m happy that the apt CEO has stepped up. I hope something permanent is found soon.

Besides the store trip, I plan to dink around in the yard today. If it becomes too overly loud outside, I’ll just come indoors.

Metal Mouse, I’m glad you’re home, and the last leg of your trip was uneventful.

Pilot, I hope you and BB can work out something good for both of you. It’s good, though, that you’re at a spot where you can voice your displeasure a little. Like you, I tend to take continued lousy news with a nod and a smile, and then I reach a breaking point, and it’s not pleasant.

I should get the day started. I’m sending my best to all of you and hope you have a day that makes you happy, or at least feel peaceful.

OMG! I’d vote for that guy.

Hope that the leg is feeling better soonest sticky buns.

Sounds like it’s time to make a scorecard. :stuck_out_tongue: (I actually did this in one of my heritage scrapbooks because I got tired of constantly answering questions at the family reunion about how folks were related. I even went with a baseball theme)

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels in the dryer, clothes in the wash and fixing to do Firday chores so’s that I can hang out with SIL on Firday itself. I do need to check to see what Kroger hours are today. I may have to wait until tomorrow to go to the store.

Happy Independence day to the 'Merikans and happy Thursday to everyone else.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Morning all. Stayed in bed until about 8:30am (except for short bathroom excursions) so hopefully have caught up on my sleep. It’s already 82F out there, so not in a great hurry to get outside, might go to the gym (it’s open until 4pm) just to get the habit re-started, but we’ll see. Rain is due tomorrow and from the looks of my lawn we can really use some.

Had some fireworks last night but they were all done by 9pm and I had no trouble with them regarding sleeping.

Sari, dogs barking always cause consternation among other dogs, as they think they might be missing something… Hope you get the rest you need tonight.

Shoe, so. are you open on the 4th; I would think that would be a very busy day/night.

boo fae, I’m half-Irish descent, so getting on English nerves is kinda my heritage…   Enjoy the festival.

FCM, I too can remember waving sparklers when I was a kid (also tossing little-bitty firecrackers after they were lit), but I think your plan is better.

{{Sticky Buns}}. Take care.

swampy, sounds like a nice party, enjoy!

JtC, enjoy meeting all those new ‘relations’ you never knew you had.

And I almost erased this page, so that means I need to finish and forage for some nourishment. Take care all.

I was just wondering if there’s some kind of game that you can lightheartedly suggest that everyone plays that requires name tags!

Metal Mouse, glad you made it home ok and that the fireworks didn’t keep you up late.

Swampy, I’ll be there as soon as I can for your fabulous party.

In other news, the stupid MF, POS doctor that screwed around with me years ago comes back to haunt me again. I just got the results back from the ultrasound. I have a cyst on the back of my knee most likely caused by an old injury that has been considerably aggravated by all of this brace and orthotic business. If the rotten bastard had actually fixed the meniscus tear years ago, would I be here dealing with this today? (This was another one of those sorry, Sticky, we can’t help you because you’re too fat moments.) /rant over

Oh well. I’m here now. I guess I’ll just have to see what we do next. I think it’s almost nap time here.

It was getting a little late for lunch yesterday, and I was hungry. I finished off the cottage cheese (not much left), and made myself a hammenswiss sanger. I took one bite out of the corner of the sandwich, and Mrs. L.A. said she was going to suggest going down the beach for eats at Bay Breeze. So I wrapped up the sandwich in wax paper and put it in the fridge, and we went down the beach. She had a bowl of clam chowder and a mermaid water (drink) I had steamed mussels in a spicy sauce (and I even ate the slice of grilled sourdough) and a Manhattan. I think I’ll have the sandwich for breakfast later.

I haven’t been walking. Too much irk, and it’s a short week. And I have that Seca II cowling to sand (and hopefully paint this weekend), and the R1 is saying, ‘Why don’t we go for a ride?’ So I’ll finish my third cuppa joe, and get out for a walk around 0800 so I don’t get distracted.
