Old post - absurd hypothetical

I need help finding an old post. I’ve tried searching several times, but haven’t hit upon the magic combo. It’s an old hypothetical question which I believe was asked in earnest about a car crashing. I think a gun was involved somehow - possibly something about shooting the passenger. It evolved into increasingly outrageous scenarios - basically making a mockery of the whole hypothetical genre.

Thanks.

If your kid was trapped in a flaming car crash and you had a gun would you shoot him or watch him burn to death? Ring a bell?

That’s the one, but I still can’t find it. I just searched “kid, car, crash, gun, shoot” which returned twelve results, none of which were the right one.

Was it this one?

Yes!!! What magic did you use to find it?

That was six years ago and I remember laughing out loud and almost pissing myself when I saw post #2 by Kalhoun.

Google search of the sdmb which took me to a pitting of the OP which had a link to the post.

You know who else searched for old posts?

That explains it. I was searching within SDMB. Thanks for finding it!

I’ll bite. Who?

Hitler!!!1!!1

I am stunned to find that that was 8 years old. I would have sworn it was only a few years ago.

I haven’t gone digging to verify my suspicions, but in the days when The truly great threads in SDMB history was getting somewhat regular input, that post/thread came up and was either linked to or described well enough that it stuck in my memory.

Since the Google search yendis did got to it more or less directly, and seems to satisfy the OP’s concerns, I will just leave it with the idea that the really fun threads need to be indexed somewhere. I always enjoy seeing things that were said before I got here, or else otherwise missed when they were hot topics.

Threadspotting is a way to get at some of them – if anybody ever did what it took to get them listed there.

All said, it’s great to know that there are enough others who love to find that sort of thing that the search itself is good fun for a while.

I see that Kalhoun had a rather pithy comment in that thread. I miss her!
