I’m not big on conspiracy theories, but this story is just too weird to pass up.
George Zimmerman has been in hiding since the not guilty verdict.
The very first confirmed public sighting of Zimmerman? When he came out of hiding - with a fire extinguisher - just long enough to help a famly from an overturned SUV.
So for the record, the guy that when he was in reasonably decent shape couldn’t push a 150lb kid off him, says he helped rescue a family of four from an overturned SUV when he’s at least 100lbs overweight.
The family in the SUV has refused to comment or otherwise confirm -any- part of the story, including whether Zimmerman was even on the scene. None of the police reports mention him. None of the 911 calls mention him on the scene, even though it was less than a mile from where he lived and one suspects Zimmerman is one of the most widely recognized people in the state right now, let alone a few hundred yards from his house.
The officer that responded to the crash had pro-Zimmerman posts on his Facebook page before and after the crash, yet made no posts about actually running into Zimmerman.
No pictures of the crash, and certainly no pictures of Zimmerman at the crash site, even though he had to have been on the scene for at least several minutes (long enough to save the family, then the cops to arrive, and give a statement).
Just a bizarre coincidence? Completely staged? Semi-staged with the help of the cop?
*"Zimmerman gave a statement to a police deputy, who recognized him, and then left, Vincent said.
Cops said he didn’t witness the accident itself, and he is not mentioned in the accident report.
No was injured in the crash, which occurred about a mile from where Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin in February 2012."*
He was recognized by a police officer but not mentioned because he wasn’t an eyewitness. The accident happened close to his home so it’s not unusual he’d have come across it. So while it’s a bit coincidental, it doesn’t come near requiring a set-up for it to have occured just like as reported.
“Helped rescue a family of four,” does not imply that he lifted them bodily out of the car, ripped the car’s doors off, or any other physical feat other than approaching the vehicle and helping them out.
The man is overweight, yes, but he doesn’t appear to have any difficulty walking.
This thread appears to be somewhat desperate: Please, someone, tell me that Zimmerman didn’t do something good! I can’t handle it if he did!
The conspiracy theorists are all over it…
Longtime supporter (& one source still being investigated by NB is claiming friend) of George Zimmerman, Officer Patrick Rehder’s cell phone records reveal a text or call to George Zimmerman right after the 5:47 PM crash was called in. This tipped Zimmerman off to the car crash accident & to get there to assist the family before Officer Rehder arrived. Zimmerman, still hiding out in the same neighborhood that he killed Trayvon Martin in, was less than a mile away to jump into action & be a hero with his passive aggressive approach KNOWING that his name on the police report would eventually be made public.EXCLUSIVE PICTURES FAMILY GEORGE ZIMMERMAN SAVED CAR CRASH ACCIDENT
I don’t see a good reason to think the story is false. Obviously what you see and hear from the media can be inaccurate. He did the right thing there. However, it is in no way connected to his recent legal situation.
No, I don’t think it’s projection. It’s the contents of the “etc” in your question, which are as follows:
… says he helped rescue a family of four from an overturned SUV when he’s at least 100lbs overweight…
The family in the SUV has refused to comment or otherwise confirm -any- part of the story, including whether Zimmerman was even on the scene…
None of the police reports mention him…
None of the 911 calls mention him on the scene…
…yet made no posts about actually running into Zimmerman.
No pictures of the crash, and certainly no pictures of Zimmerman at the crash site, even though he had to have been on the scene for at least several minutes…
Completely staged? Semi-staged with the help of the cop?

In other words, the vast majority of your post is devoted to listing reasons you find to discredit the story. And then, in your response to me, you quote one sentence fragment that shows openness to an explanation that does not involve chicanery.
So, no, I don’t believe it’s projection to speculate on your desire to see this story shown to be a fraud.
I’m not ‘eager’ to see the story shown to be a fraud - I’m not posting because I can’t believe that a Non-Convicted Child Murderer ™ would stop to check on someone if they saw an accident.
If it weren’t for the oddities I noted, I wouldn’t be posting at all even given the bizarre coincidence (first time seen in public after the verdict, he jumps out of his truck to save a family in an SUV, giving his spokesperson a chance to use the ‘What if he hadn’t gotten out of his truck?’ line).
It’s the other weird aspects of the story that are kinda bizarre and thus the posting.
Amazing that he had a fire extinguisher in his truck at the time. I didn’t know Honda Ridgelines came with fire extinguishers.
And there’s a fire extinguisher! Now this is really groovy, man. A fire extinguisher! Can you tell me how many cars have a fire extinguisher so that if you’re driving down the street, see a house on fire, you just jump right out and foooooosh! And they say, “My goodness, thanks so much!” - Bill Cosby’s 200 MPH (1968) referring to his custom dual supercharged Shelby Cobra.
I’m surprised that he’s still in the neighborhood, as he argued against the terms of his pre-trial conditions and expressed a desire to live outside of the county. And I’m surprised that he is quick to stop and help a stranger since he has received death threats and is thought to be in hiding. So popping out on the side of a highway to help strangers sounds like a poor hiding strategy.
I’m torn between PR damage control and truth-is-stranger-than-fiction. Remember when Tom Cruise, while filming a movie, stopped to help stranded motorists? Yeah, I’m like 90% convinced that was PR damage control. On the other hand, truth really is way stranger than fiction.
Oh yes, please by all means show us where I said it was amazing that the car had road flares and first aid kits.
Those do, in fact, often come as standard. (Just in passing, I’d note that apparently Zimmerman didn’t grab any road flares or first aid kits - and I’d be grabbing those items first unless I *specifically *saw fire, which George didn’t. But I digress).
In any event, I was referring to *fire extinguishers’, which rarely come as a standard piece of equipment on a car. AFAIK it doesn’t come as standard on the Honda Ridgeline, Zimmerman’s truck; it’d need to be custom-mounted. I would be *shocked *if the percentage of privately owned cars carrying fire extinguishers was even in the double digits, let alone anything remotely near a majority of cars.
OK, got it. The fact remains: I have a fire extinguisher. And while I agree with you that the number of people that also carry a fire extinguisher are probably a small percentage of the driving public, it’s not an outlandish claim – especially for Zimmerman, who has been derided for being a “wannabe” cop. In my opinion, although the overall percentage of fire extinguisher carrying members of the public is quite low, the percentage of people fairly characterized as “wannabe” cops who also carry fire extinguishers is comparatively high.
In other words, if it’s true that Zimmerman is (or was) a “wannabe” cop, that makes it much more likely, to my mind, that we’d find him equipped with a fire extinguisher.
ETA: Mine isn’t “custom mounted.” It’s very similar to this model and sits in a plastic crate in the back of my vehicle.
