Old school Mac users: anyone remember this game?

My neighbor in the dorms back in '91 had a game for his Mac. As I recall it was kind of a space invaders/galaga style game, where you had to shoot aliens. But as you shot them they made funny little sounds. One of the sounds was a sample from a Peter Gabriel song called ‘Not One of Us’.

This is probably a long shot, and my description is likely a little too vague, but if anyone can remember what it’s called, I’ll probably find you here. I’ve tried googling it to no avail.

Thanks, folks!

When you died, did you hear the words “Do it again”, but it sounded like a quote from a movie. Also, did the original Star Trek red alert sounds play when the wily UFO came on the screen?

Hey, Scott.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen/played it, but I remember the sound effects were all relatively humorous. I don’t remember any other specific sounds, but Star Trek sound bytes wouldn’t be out of character.

I know the game. I played it constantly, back around 1990-91. I had it on my Mac IIsi, which I finally got rid of about a year ago. I know I still have a copy of the program somewhere on a backup disk. It was shareware.

Darned if I can remember the name right now, but it’s right on the tip of my tongue… I’ll let you know if it comes to me.

Ha! It just came to me.

It was called Solarian.

(I was about to attempt to start up an old Syquest removable hard drive to find the program, but it’s just as well; it’s probably DOA by now.)

Well than, you kcan buy an updated edition for $10.

You guys rock!!! Thanks!
Ah, memories.

Speaking of classic Mac games with cool visuals and funny sounds…

Did you guys ever play Dark Castle and/or Beyond Dark Castle?

I probably still have those on floppy disks somewhere, but alas, I don’t think I currently have a Mac old enough to play them.

There is “color dark castle” that is playable on more modern hardware
