We have them here, as well. I think they’re akin to stinkbugs.
Cuz they are renowned for tasting nasty, to pets and humans alike and catz is smart.
Because in a matter of minutes, they’d shred 'em. What a silly question…
OK, I’ve booked our rail passage, since we can cancel any time up to 121 days before departure with no penalty. That’s about the same time we’d be canceling the cruise, so if the doo doo hits the fan, we’re good. Plus I got the trip insurance that covers the doo doo part.
I planted some 'mater, cherry 'mater, cuke, and pepper seeds - we’ll see if they come to anything. They’re in pots on the back porch. I also planted some snapdragons that were on sale at Lowes. Last load is in the washer - late start today. FCD is home from the boat - he did a big mismeasurement - like 20" too long. Likely his 63 looked like an 83, hence the goof. He’s looking at fixing it now.
Sun is shining, warmth abounds, windows are open. Definitely spring-like. Too bad it won’t be like this on Sunday. Alas.
I’ve done that before. I’m glad that you’re feeling better now.
So far, mixing up meds hasn’t been a problem. Morning meds are next to my toothpaste, which is first thing routine. Evening meds are on the dresser and Alexa reminds me when to take them. The pill caddies are completely, too. And now that I’ve said this, a mix-up can’t be far off.
Laundry is done. Do I want to make supper or dine out?
Oh I remember that. “I’ll just hold a cut potato behind your earlobe.” All of us sitting in a car at 16 years old with some bootleg Bartles and James.
Once upon a time I had three holes in my left ear, for about 20 minutes. On the way home from getting the third piercing got rear ended while stopped behind a school bus in snow, put my head through the back window of my girlfriend’s dad’s El Camino. Ambulance to the horsepistol, x-rays, maybe MRI? anyway, had to take out the new earring. Never got it back in.
I pierced my left ear in 1972. Over the years I have added to that. I currently have five 10mm, 12 gauge ear rings. Two in my right ear and three in my left.
i’m starting see the light at the end of the lent tunnel. lent always seems longer when it starts near my birthday. le sigh. i personally prefer a later pascha. great and holy week is always a whirlwind. one reason i take bright monday and tuesday off is for recovery time.
tenebrae sounds very interesting. the closest thing we have is at the midnight office. just before midnight everyone…scrambles/scrums into a clump to get ready for the procession. then all the lights in the church are turned off. no sound (mostly shuffling, coughing, fierce whispering) and ambient light. churches in cities have more ambient light. this is to bring you into the grave. then just after midnight a candle is lit in the altar (remember there is a big wall of icons around the altar Iconostasis - Wikipedia, so it is a very small bit of light. the priest then brings the candle out, altar servers light their candles from it and take it out into the crowd (and i mean crowd, people will shove to get their light from the alter server seriously scrum). the priest starts the chant, the choir joins in, then every one goes out. depending on the physical location of your church it will be circled either once or thrice. when returning to the church, everything is brightly lit. all the doors are open, it is incredibly bright. bells are rung at the first announcement of “christ is risen”.
it is my favourite thing of pascha. of course, as i kid i thought god turned on all the lights, moved the furniture, lit the candles, threw open the door. the church interior looks so different. then when i was 10 ish a huge thunderstorm hit and we didn’t go outside. that is when i found out it was eddie levitsky. it was beautiful in a different way as i got to see the candle light spread through the church from above in the choir loft. i can still picture it. from 1 candle to 6 candles then bit by bit until the entire nave of the church was candle light.
fcm, i’ve been thinking about doing a continental train trip. alas they do not allow cats in the room part of the train, they do allow dogs…
swampbear, i hope all goes well for your services this weekend, and that no one sets their hair on fire.
taters, i’m glad everything went well. it is amazing surgery. i couldn’t believe how well i saw in recovery. he had both at the same time, yes?
Amtrak does but the trip has to be 7 hours or less and the dog has to be in a carrier and the dog and carrier need to weigh less than 20 lbs total.

Chinese delivery for supper, so neither cook nor go out. It was still an acceptable alternative.
I took the rooster and duck downstairs!! If I may back up - MIL had a metal rooster and a wood and metal duck in her kitchen in Ocala. When she moved in with us, they went in the front bow window, tho the only space for them was in front of each opening window, so I had to move them every time I wanted fresh air. MIL has been gone for over a year and I told FCD last week I was taking them downstairs. They’re on the mantle. They will soon be joined by the two light green wooden ducks that sat on MIL’s dining table and have been living on top of a bookcase.
I am NOT a fan of country decor, but she was. Had it been up to me, all the fowl would have been consigned to a thrift store, but FCD is attached to them. It’s not like they’re a memento of his youth - his mom had them maybe 30 years, long after he’d moved out and after we’d married. I think he’s having a hard time adjusting to losing his parents, and keeping their stuff is important to him. I obviously don’t have the emotional attachment to their stuff, so I make space for the things my sweetie wants to keep and keep my opinions to myself. And to you. ![]()
Speaking of piercings, I have none and never wanted any. When Daughter got her ears pierced for the first time (I think it was at Claire’s at the mall) I went for a walk while FCD stayed with her. Just thinking about what was happening made me woozy. So nope nope nope. Needless to say, no tats either.
We may be going to the boat to do some cleaning tomorrow. Or not. We’ll see in the morning. For now, max chillage.
In my room on Atlanta, the drive was fairly easy albeit traffic was pretty heavy, but no issues. Once I checked in I decided to take a walk as the Google map showed the museum was only about 10 minutes away. However that route went by Delta Airlines HQ and was blocked to traffic, including foot traffic. So walked around about a mile to get to the entrance, no sidewalks and part of the way have ankle-breaking holes, so I think I’ll drive the 1.5 miles tomorrow. Then walked to Wendy’s and got some food and that should do it for me.
Will read your messages now and reply appropriately…
Good afternoon all, and what a beautiful day it is. It’s in the low 80’s and the sun is shining. We started our day in fog and drizzles but the forest is stunningly glamours when a stray ray of sun breaks through the clouds.
We didn’t go to Hawks Nest, the GPS went out and Hubs in not able to turn around if one stop in a trip has been missed. We must power on to the next spot because he reacts to change even worse than George the Gormless.
We did go to the New River Gorge and I was able to get to the viewing areas thanks to my new electric scooter. I am really upset about this, we have missed out on so much because I can’t walk far and he won’t go without me. Why didn’t I ever consider one in the past, it would have made my and our life so much better.
Oh wait. I know why. I didn’t want to admit that I’m old and won’t get any younger cause after a while denial becomes a lifestyle.
The bridge is closed once a year so people can walk over it and jump off. You can’t see it, but there is a walkway under the bridge that allows people to sit on a mesh floor and watch people jump millions of feet into the river. Hubs wants to go and watch. I’ll probably stay home and stitch.
Multi pierced old guys are hawt!
Hubs only wears one gauged earring nowadays, his ears close up super fast if he leaves his metal out too long. I got both of my ears pierced safety pin and potato version after I graduated USAF tech school. I rarely wear earrings nowadays, but when I do, I don’t have any problem with closed holes. Skin be weird.
We used MadDog 2020 because we were all edgy like that.
Too much is easier to fix than not enough, I’d much rather cut long than short.
That kinda sucks, but at least you know you will get over the feeling like crap soon.
While we were out, we saw all sorts of inflatable Easter decorations. People sized eggs and bunnies as well as purple draped crosses. While I’m a huge fan of Easter colors, I never really know when its going to happen. Back in AZ, I looked for the Cadberry eggs at the C-store counters, but I pay at the pump nowadays.
So twice the fun, huh?
I’ve seen vids of horses getting their toes done, is your farrier all hawt and buff from all of the lifting and holding?
I’m hearing you talk about big life changes, of course they are your focus right now.
You should have heard me yammer about moving from AZ to WV. My journey wasn’t yours, but it was still big. At least yours includes everyone speaking the same language and/or dialect, when I’m out in the hollers it sometimes seems like I’ve moved to a different country entirely.
And for the record, I know that everyone buys the stereotype of West Virginians being nothing but ignorant hillbillies and drug addicts, but that really isn’t true. Before trump WV had the highest vaccination levels in the country.
There is poverty, but the worse I’ve seen so far here is better than the Native American reservations in AZ and NM. Mostly what we see while driving are 90 % well kept yards and homes with moldering shotgun shacks or falling down single wide trailers in between.
The forest is coming alive now. The floor is green and purple and the sides of the hills are covered with yellow and white flowers. Entire hillsides are covered in feral daffodils, you can tell where someone had lived even if the forest took the home long ago.
And have caught up with my reading so offering these words.
FCM, I hope the train trip comes off, I think you will enjoy it. And Happy Veggie planting. And FWIW, I think you’re doing the right thing with MIL’s stuff.
No holes in my ears except the ones I was born with. As a soccer referee I have to check that kids are not wearing earrings, so I tell them they are only allowed the seven holes in their head while playing.
Rocky, according to BBBoo’s notes, you could probably take a pet on a transcon trip if you don’t mind taking 10-12 days and staying in hotels…
JtC, so happy for you that the scooter is giving you more freedom. Enjoy.
Mollie, I only take two pills a day and think I messed that up a couple of times. Glad you are doing well.
It was snowing a week ago, now I need to mow the lawn. Stoopit nature. I donwanna mow.
I was doing much better by midday and even got up the energy to make spaghetti carbonara for dinner.
I went through a punk phase in my early twenties and had multiple piercings along with weird, multicolored hair. Now, I’m down to the original ear piercings.
I only have one aftermarket hole per ear (got that done with parental approval at age 8 at a mall jewelry store), not interested in further piercings, definitely not interested in tattoos. Oddly, I can sometimes go months without wearing earrings, and the holes never close.
Mollie, you may not have noticed but I’m yammering on about a trip that’s 10 months away. Yeah, not noticed. Right. But the thing is if for some unimaginable reason someone is rolling eyes or yawning at my yammering, I have no way of knowing. Unless they want to be unimaginably rude and call me out on it. As if. My point being, yammering is part of message boards the world over and everyone has the option of skipping ahead. I shall yammer till they pry my cold, dead, ummmmm, well, you get the idea. I find your journey really compelling.
We won’t be doing boat cleaning after all tomorrow so I’m going to futz in the yard before the rain and less warm returns. Time to crochet and stream something.
I am seriously grumbly about being so stoopid for so long. I won’t use the scooters that stores have, I’ve seen too many people stuck because of dead batteries (plus I don’t carry wipes around and am not sure I’d want to touch the controls without them. That’s me and my CDO, I’m sure that it is perfectly safe).
I am happy that you made it to your first stop in your destination, dang about the museum walk.
When Hubs wanted to get his second holes, we went to the mall and ended up at a Claire’s. Picture a tattooed biker in full leathers and chains walking through the mall and ending up into a pink door into a store filled with teenyboppers. I’ve never seen the man look so frightened before or since, LOL!!!
Boo, I’m soo happy to see you posting again today, that tells me that you are feeling a little better. I miss you when you are gone.
But you could get such a cute vid during those few minutes!!!
Taters, I’m happy your Hubs is doing well and loves his new eyes. I used to work for eye surgeons who had their own surgery center. I saw the patients come and go every week. All of them were happy when they came back for their follow up visits, so I knew that my cataract surgery would be good as well.
I had NO idea how good it would be. Welcome him to the club, once in a while there really are rewards for getting old.
