(Old) Summers of Childhood Past in the MMP

Sorry for the double post but 2 bits of good news. I got the official call that I am enrolled in the Dupixent patient assistance program so will be getting the meds for free. The vet called and all Ariel’s lab numbers are normal.

excellent news!

wow baker, your grandfather went from early airplanes to man on the moon. that must have been a bit surreal for him.

Happy Friday!

I’m just coming in to bitch
My damn head is ready to explode

Finally got the paperirk for the estate.
It came certified mail and no check, just forms to be filled out.
I glanced over it yesterday and saw we just have to sign and send it back.

Only this morning, I read the forms and WTF?
The first page is just the basic bullshit, we are sorry for your loss, please find enclosed, blah blah blah and that I will be receiving 1/3 of the estate.
Also, my niece will be keeping a small portion to pay the taxes in 2024. Which if my niece had done the job properly, everything would have been settled last December and there wouldn’t be any taxes for 2024 - so wtf should any of us have to pay because she fucked around and didn’t get shit done?

The second and third pages, where I need to sign says I will be receiving 1/9 of the estate and includes the dollar amount.

I am trying to tell myself that it’s just a typo, or a clerical error,
but I am having a hard time believing that.
All things considered.

I’m not going to sign it, obviously.
I really really really want to send it back with a note attached, which would have a lot of bad language.
Which I know I shouldn’t do, and I know it is better to cool off before I do anything.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 13c/55f with a predicted high of 18c/65f, and cloudy here in Arcata. Weather app says “Mostly cloudy? More like, mostly fucking cloudy bullshit.” Looking out of the window, it’s foggy up there but looks good.

We didn’t have any fog-related flight problems yesterday, flight was all of 40 minutes and very smooth. The little airport is a 10-minute drive from the town, when we arrived there was one cab outside but he was already booked so he called in another one for us. That was my first ride in a 1993 station wagon, with just short of 500k miles on the clock. The driver was very proud of that!

Checked in, went for a walk around and found a couple of bars. Today’s plan is to pick up a rental car and head to Bandon Beach, taking our time. Breakfast first though!

So sorry for the estate troubles. I feel so lucky my family wasn’t dysfunctional when it came to the estate of my mom.

Cooling off sounds like a good idea, and I really hope that it’s a typo. When you need to vent we are here.

I got sent to unload again. And i had a box fall on my big toe. It stopped hurting, but now it’s a lovely shade of blue I hope I don’t run out of toes before the strike or my vacation. Also when I was pulling some Next Day Air Igloo coolers off the 1G(5 coolers. Fresh, illicit seafood? Parts kit for V. Fronkensteen?), a 75lbs. belt motor came down the metro belt and pinched my arm for a second. No damage, but Spot thought it needed licking and amputation when I got home. I feel like I’ve been beaten(and not in a whips and chains fun way).

That could be me, except I forgot to buy the winning Powerball ticket Wednesday.

Yay!

Cool off, then politely ask “WTF?”

Or “It looks like there’s a typo in the document.”

That’s the short version of what I was going to say.

Doggio, decades ago when I had a warehouse job, it was my turn to unload the truck (usually a mostly-full 45 footer) about every two weeks or so. Even as a relatively fit twentysomething I felt beat to hell and back afterwards. I feel ya.

The job assignment I was supposed to start next week got pushed back into a period during which I’m unavailable for family reasons, so I’m off the project. Not good news, as I was really looking forward to that paycheck. I need to figure out a way to bring in some money between jobs. Maybe I’ll look into driving for DoorDash or something.

The reason I’ll be unavailable in three weeks is a fun one, though. My nieces are throwing a surprise 40th anniversary party for my brother and SIL, so we’ll be flying to NC for the festivities. Haven’t seen the whole extended fam in almost 2 years, and I’ll get to meet my 1-year-old grand-niece for the first time, so it should be a great trip!

This is the cruise we’re looking at. Most of the time will be at sea, but that’s fine with us. And neither of us are prone to seasickness… so far… But we know about the southern ocean.

Home from Daughter’s school. We pulled the Cat6 cables to the #2’s office and the secretary’s area. Then we taped together and pulled Cat6 and speaker wires down the hallway to the “tower” - the structure in the center of the octogon where most of the classrooms are. Tomorrow, I’ll have 2 assistants to help thread the taped bundle above the suspended ceiling to a drop in the tower. If there’s time, we’ll pull Cat6 and speaker wire from each classroom to the tower. If time permits, we’ll wire the speakers as well and install them. It all depends on how handy my assistants are.

For today, tho, I need to go hack back the wisteria that’s creeping too close to where we park the truck. Then I need to run to Aldi for bread and a few other things. That will be followed by chillage. I got some used ground beef yesterday that will become a meatloaf for supper. Not sure if I’ll make it before or after chillage. But I need the chillage.

The Drake Passage is the rough part in Antarctic summer. I found that around the archipelago was calm. We were making landings, so it’s possible we were closer to shore, though.

Even from the ship, plenty of wildlife spotting and great vistas. I’ll dig up a photo or two.

From the ship:

That last photo is a wandering albatross in the Drake Passage.

My pudgy fingers too! :crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3:

Those are amazing! Thank you so much for taking the time to share them with us.

Probably a dumb question, but was it, like, super cold? Did your nose & cheeks hurt from the air, or was it tolerable?

Oh, and … did you get to see the aurora?

Happy Doperversary, longhair75! :tada:

Work started off quietly today, but suddenly it’s already after 1:30pm! Most of the day’s tasks have involved editing, though, which is my favorite thing to do (work-wise).

I’m slightly tired/off today, because there was an extremely loud thunderstorm (complete with bright flashy bits) overhead at some point in the middle of the night. Plus, my thighs are still sore from Tuesday evening’s all-of-20-minutes of exercise…heh. My new/regular trainer texted me this morning, and I think we’re scheduled for this coming Tuesday and Thursday: he must have had a client or something, because he went dark before confirming. If I don’t hear from him again by Monday afternoon I’ll text him.

Happily, tonight is another evening with no plans other than vegging on the couch with the doggy. I might finish S7 of Suits. There will still be two seasons to go, but I’ve been so focused on the binge-watching that some stuff has piled up on the TiVo that I may finally get to over the weekend: Miracle Workers (the new season), episodes of CNN’s See It Loud: The History of Black Television, a Prince special, and a couple of other things.

Tomorrow evening I have tentative plans with friends to go hear an acoustic Beatles tribute band: it’s a free show but outside, so we’re waiting to see how the heat/humidity are. Then, on Sunday I’ll be going to a local brunch jazz jam: I’m only sort-of interested in the jam session, but I like the friend who asked if I’d go with her so I agreed. It’s very close to home, and it won’t kill me to get out of the house for a few hours – especially if I wind up not going to the Beatles thing.

 (literally…I startled the dog!)

This made me laugh out loud, too.

Hmm, where is that draft of my FB post about looking for a neighborhood game…

OMG! :astonished: Those are fabulous!!

No aurora. I visited in Antarctic summer. It was about 32F in the archipelago.

^Polar plunge.

Beautiful pictures. Some people do things other people won’t! brrrr!

So I’m all whiney today. My arm hurts and I can’t stitch. I didn’t sleep well last night because the weight of my heavy blanket hurt my arm every time I moved so I’d start flipping and flopping which disturbed Crabby Old Cat who wants to be fed anytime anyone moves nowadays, so he’d start hollaring and walking on us which wakes hubs up.

I was planning on going to town and picking up a few things, but hubs decided he wanted to take my car to town and pay his friend the professional car mechanic to give my car a good once over and be sure it was ready to make the trip to Idaho. I’m sure it is fine, but it’s nice of him to do it for me.

My blooming pomegranate is making me pretty happy, though. I’ve asked around and nobody seems to think it will hurt it to have fruit this year, but I think I’m only going to allow it to have three this year, next year I will let it do what it wants.

When I started doing Tai-chi I would get internally whiney after about 15 minutes and I would feel it the next day, so I know how you feel. Keep it up, you are doing a very good thing for yourself.

Visit with the ortho went well, but was exhausting. Surprise for the day: she removed the bandage and pulled the staples, which is about as much fun as it sounds. Now I can shower (and the world rejoices)! I’m having some celebratory chocolate and a cup o’ herbal tea. Long way to go yet, but she was very happy with my progress (knee flexion and extension).

Progress!

suzie, I agree, lovely pics, and I chickened out on doing a polar plunge.

FCM, looks like a great cruise, and that is a perfect time for it. Only one of the those places I’ve been is Ushuaia, can recommend the train ride or most of the tours, you could also spend the day in the city and find plenty to do. Enjoy it.

shoe, since I’ve been to Antarctica this year, the answer is…somewhat. It’s summer there so you have temperatures at or near freezing, but there is wind chill and snow and you never want to be out for long unless you are dressed in several layers of clothing (at least that’s what I found). The South American continent is in summer, which way south means it gets to 60F. IIRC, you like the cool weather, this would be a good place if there was a pizza opening and you spoke Spanish. Didn’t see an Aurora but the Southern Cross is doable, IIRC.

JtC, hope the arm gets to feeling better. And good on Hubs,
.
Cookie, I found getting staples out to be uncomfortable, mostly from watching them do it. Enjoy your goodies and keep on progressing.

Wheelie, enjoy the party when it happens.

wet one, Double Yeah!!!

boo fae, enjoy your time in California.

Sari, agree with doggio, double-read it again, cool down, then call and demand answers and don’t let them go until they have satisfied you.

Never thought of it that way, but you’re right.

Had a fairly active morning, went down and walked the Boardwalk while it was still cool (only 81F) and before most of the shops opened. Then headed over to pick up my voucher for the boat, also got a spiel about time-shares that I put off (courtesly). Then went to Ripley’s Aquarium, which despite the name is pretty nice and had a couple Sloths in residence (no, they were not named swampy and OYKW). Lights went out for a bit, the area is home to lots of restaurants, shops, and amusements so not too surprised and they had them back on in 15 minutes or so. After lunch I finally changed and got into the Atlantic Ocean for a short dip, mostly trying not to fall down (the sand depth shifted from step to step) and getting whacked with waves, which wears one down pretty quickly. Cleaned up and will leave to my boat trip in about an hour (it’s 20 miles away and traffic on the main routes can be busy).

So take care all and I’ll try to get a note in tonight when I get back.

You should have talked to the management.
