(Old) Summers of Childhood Past in the MMP

Which you richly deserve! I’ll bet that shower felt marvelous.

Thank you, I’m sure I’ll be over it tomorrow, it was only three shots. I’ve started my packing list last week and have started gathering things up. Of course I will be by stores for much of my journey, if I forget something, I can always get more.

I have everything I want to bring for stitching in a basket but if I forget something more specialized, I’m sure Mom has some in her stash.

I’ve learned that watching stuff like that makes it hurt worse!

Yesterday, I spent 15 minutes sitting on the side of the bed trying to decide if I wanted to use the upstairs bathroom, or the downstairs bathroom.
Probably had to do with grogginess and lack of sleep.

Later, I annoyed the hell out of my son because I didn’t know if I wanted to eat one of the chocolate chip cookies he brought home.
I thought it was going to be one of those nasty store bought cookies, but it wasn’t, so I’m glad I ate it.

I know this is the correct reply.
My brain tells me it’s a typo, and that the lawyer wouldn’t be trying to rip me off. It’s not enough money for him to risk his job.

I am so sick of lies, bullshit, and gaslighting.

Very pretty pictures.
I never want to travel, but I like hearing about others’ travels.

Cupcakes, you are so lucky to not have a toxic family.
Once this is all over, I will be going NC with them.

Howdy Y’all! Been a very slothful day here. We did the chikin and sallit for N.O.L. (well, brunch since it was at ten-thirty a.m.) and spent some quality time at the cee-mint pond. It is way hawt out so we decided to come inside after two hours, Showers and nappage were then achieved. Since then it’s been chill in the a/c. Da yahd needs mowage which might happen tomorrow since it will be a cooler (only 89 Amurrkin, BRRR!) day and rain is promised tomorrow afternoon and Sunday. We shall see.

I was fourteen (almost fifteen) when the moon landin’ happened. I was glued to the teevee watchin’ and excited. However I was more excited that in ten days I would be fifteen and get my learner’s permit. Teen priorities be weird.

Cookie yay for getin’ the staples removed and the shower!

WetOne yay for the free meds and for Ariel’s lab numbers bein’ normal!

Taters yikes on that commute! Hang in there. One week to vacation!

Sari smart move to decide to cool off first. I’m sure it’s a typo, but they should have been more careful. Corrected paperirk is a must before signin’.

Lily waaaaaay cool (heh!) pics of the Antartic.

MetalMouse enjoy the cruise. The Atlantic is kinda rough. At least that’s always been my experience on the Jawja coast, such as it is. St. Simon’s Island and Jekyll Island are my two favorite Jawja beach places.

I got out about 20 minutes early for my walk. I was going to finish off the Greek salad for lunch, but I had to print off an Agreement for Big Multinational Credit Agency, sign it, scan it, send it to myself (to the orifice computer), put the pages together in a Word document because I can’t do multi-page .pdf scans at home, and send it to BMCA along with other documents, sample files, data layouts, special processing instructions, etc., and send the a/r files and layouts to our own database people to get them set up for contribution. Mrs. L.A. went to get two tanks of propane for her catio heater, and I had to bring those in because they’re heavy. Now it’s 14:00 and it’s too late to have anything for lunch.

I’m making fish Florentine for dinner tonight.

ETA: Mrs. L.A. is having a sandwich, so I’ll go ahead and have the Green salad.

Thanks!

I’m apparently among the youngest MMPers, since I was -5 weeks old at the time of the moon landing, and am apparently one of very few in here who does not remember that event (kind of hard to watch something on TV from the womb, let alone remember the event (grin)).

I’m definitely not the youngest MMPer, but I was -26 months old.

What’s the deal with airlines??? I was searching for flights to Santiago then back from Buenos Aires in Jan/Feb - in the couple of hours between my searches, most of the flights were no longer available, except as non-refundable fares. WTF??? I’m going to let Princess book for us - I’m hoping they have a connection that I lack.

The challenge is going to be getting flights that are under 20 hours. Some stretch out over 30 hours with long delays between connections. Which sux!! I hope my “travel consultant” can do us a solid. Dammit.

But the cruise itself should be great. It’s the getting there and back that’s giving me ulcers already. When I was younger, I loved to fly. Now I dread it.

Can you break up the flight into two segments with a night between?

ETA: The Falklands is cool, too. Get a Bluff Cove penguin tour if you can. The cafe there is great, too:

My day got off to a strange start. Awhile back, I posted about a woman screaming, “Don’t take my baby!” in an apparent custody dispute at the complex about a block from my door. Earlier today I heard a man screaming, “You’re not taking her! You’re not taking her! Help me! My daughter’s being kidnapped!” And by “screaming,” I mean a high-decibel guttural roar. I’m guessing it was the same guy the woman was screaming at. I heard calmer voices after awhile, so hopefully the cops arrived and talked things down, at least for the time being. I don’t want to think about what happens if one or both of them get armed. That poor baby.

I watched a fascinating (jk) 90 minute video about total joint replacements at the ortho clinic. I know now I can get up the stairs to my apartment, that I can shower the very same day if I want (but not bathe), and that my total time in the clinic will be 7 hours. I feel sorry for my sister but will pack her a lunch. She could leave if she wants, but there’s really no place to go that’s within walking distance.

I have a weird issue. I smell something bad that seems to be coming from behind the dishwasher. The inside of the dishwasher doesn’t smell at all, and I do clean the filter regularly. Also, it’s cleaning the dishes well. It doesn’t smell like a dead rodent. Ugh.

MetalMouse, I’m impressed by your dip into the frigid Atlantic. Can’t wait to hear about your cruise!

Cookie. Glad the staples are out and sorry for the discomfort, to use the medical euphemism. Does the knee feel better without the staples? My sister didn’t have staples, just Steri-strips. I wonder if one is better than the other.

sari, that whole estate business has been stress you don’t need. You’re wise not to sign anything until you know more. I hope it gets resolved quickly so you can get it behind you. Also, I may have missed something, but has sari-son started driving school yet?

doggio, if there is a strike, how far off would it be? Will you walk the picket line? I can see Spot carrying a little placard: U Provoked Spot! I suppose he’ll be manning the bed to defend against scabs, should any show up unannounced and without treats.

lily, the penguins look like they’re bored and waiting for the ship. I love all the photos, but that one’s my favorite because :penguin:.

Hmmm; about 90% of the Greek salads I’ve had in the Mitten had beets in them. So, I decided to google and found a Detroit News article from 5 yrs ago.
“George Antonopoulos at Athens Souvlaki in the Penobscot Building in downtown Detroit says the Greek salad is the highest-selling item in his restaurant and is often ordered with their marinated chicken…Besides the expected beets, pepperoncini, tomato and feta cheese, the Greek salad at Athens in Detroit comes with chick peas, a high-protein legume that they started adding to their salads about five years ago. Antonopoulos also bucks American-style Greek salad tradition by not including onions and cucumbers because at least half the people who order ask to leave one or the other off. I call this an American-style Greek salad because in Greece a salad doesn’t look much like what we see in the States. There, the salad wouldn’t have lettuce and you wouldn’t find pickled items such as beets and peppers.”

“Here’s the thing,” said Grace Keros of American Coney Island. “There’s a real Greek salad and then there’s Greek salads that come over here to America and they took the Greek salad and American-ized it. Nowhere in Greece are you going to find a beet on a Greek salad.”

So, confirmed that a traditional Greek salad doesn’t have beets. People in the Mitten obviously like beets on their Greek salads so that’s what I’ve always had without asking for beets on the Greek salad. Now I know why there have been a few times that there weren’t beets on my Greek salad; it wasn’t that they left them off like I thought. You learn something every day.

WetOne Yay for Ariel’s labs being normal and for the free meds for y’self.

Wow; those are very cool pics!

“an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” from the kite-flying guy

Cookie Very good news! Enjoy your shower. :shower:

MetalMouse I’m so glad you got into the Atlantic! I hope it was refreshing.

Just noticed the piece of cake Happy Doperversary Hippie

nellie I read an article that said if not settled by 7/31, the union will strike. I liked the penguin pic the best as well.

Laid down after I posted this morning but couldn’t get to sleep so got up and was a zombie until mid-afternoon when I returned to the bed and was able to get a nap in. Woke up feeling refreshed. First order of business was to sign a birthday card for my sister that Hubs bought on his way to the Fitness Center earlier then to drive it to mailbox before the pickup at 5pm; I got there at 4:51. Then start dinner: sweet potato, sauteed yellow squash with Mrs. Dash garlic & herbs and parm cheese on top. Then started a load of wash (whites). Got out the leftovers from last night at the restaurant: City Chicken for me and roast beef roll with ham & pickle stuffed inside for Hubs, kapusta for both of us. Need to go get 1st load out of washer and hang up then start second load of blouses/shirts.

Well that’s good to hear. Not much waiting around to do. Sorry to hear you get to deal with the PA again. Be sure your questions are very specific and take notes.

shoe, a salty pecker is not something I would allow myself to be near. Remember, salt may preserve, but it also dries the meat. Sometimes people try too hard for a clever name.

Yay for the roof beam and for the specs. I hope they make the interim more tolerable. And your kids sound like they are living their best lives

Thanks for the reminder that, even though my commute to work sucks, it sucks less than yours. That may change with my move, because road construction but that will be my own fault because I chose to live in a more affordable neighborhood than my workplace.

oh geez, sari, that estate BS really bites. Sending you determination to get your fair share.

swampy, a chilly salad hits the gut perfectly on a hot day.

@dogbutler I’ve got the matching big toe. I thought the nail would have fallen off by now, but nope, it and the bruise under it haven’t gone anywhere in 3 months. I think a visit to the podiatrist is in my future.

So glad it’s the weekend. Tomorrow will be spent running errands related to the move. And sleeping in a bit too so I’m not run-down on Sunday for the move. Then, I’ll be back at my friend’s for much of the week while I commute back and forth to set up the apartment while still making sure my friend isn’t stressing her banjaxed back too much. She’s improving and started PT yesterday. I’ll probably need PT after Sunday. Or at least a massage.

Have a great weekend!

I’ve skimmed the past couple of day’s worth of posts and retained a little. Made it to Dad’s yesterday, took him for his monthly Wally World run today, then went and picked up a couple of breaded tenderloins and some onion rings to go with the fresh sweet corn and sliced 'maters for supper. Dad is snoozing and I have a little reddish dog beside. Nice quiet Indiana evening.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Jan/Feb is summer there. From US gateways the flying time to SCL is ~8-10 hours. Most of those legs are overnights, leave at ~9-11pm and arrive at 7-8am net of time zone changes. Coming from BWI / IAD / DCA there’s no reason to accept anything that takes longer than ~15 hours end to end.

Greek salads: A proper Greek salad is a Horiotiki

For which beets are somewhere between anathema and blasphemy.

Hooray for susan and the Antarctica pix. Hope to go myself soon.

Had a semi-productive administrative day here. Then off for dinner at a high-end Italian joint. Way too much rich food and drink. Now to lay on the floor on our backs with our paws in the air moaning until the bloat subsides. But it was yummy! As we said back in the Las Vegas days: “Nothing exceeds like excess.”

It actually wasn’t frigid, more like :"tepid bath water’ warm. And as for the cruise, it was nice, I had a seat on the top front so I stayed relatively cool, but as for the dolphin-spotting, our sea-based mammal cousins in effect said “so, you paid $50 to come out and see (and annoy) us? Well, Up Yours, we ain’t going to show.” So I got a nice picture and a Snickers bar out of the deal,

red, enjoy the time with Dad.

Nellie, hope the family drama you’re a spectator too gets resolved peacefully…but it doesn’t sound promising.

FCM, most direct flights to those places are from Miami, Atlanta, Dallas-Ft Worth or JFK, I think. Work on those and then see about you getting from Merryland to there. Also be sure to check the foreign carriers; I flew Aerolineas Argentinas both ways from Miami. Might also consider a hotel night in the US city you’re flying out of rather than a direct routing, at least going down there.

Swampy, boat did sway and rock quite a bit, but I’ve never had a problem with motion sickness on the sea and did just fine today. Only outside the Intracostal Waterway for about 30-40 minutes, the rest of the time was getting there and getting back.

Happy doper anniversary, hippie

OK, am watching the Women’s World Cup, USA just blew an penalty kick opportunity but still lead 1-0. Checking out tomorrow and heading for Charleston, SC. Take care all.

That’s how I make them. Only, I don’t use the traditional slab-o-feta. I use crumbled feta. I reserve the slabs for eating with Kalamata olives, kebab, tzatziki, etc. And no red onions, because The Wife can’t eat them.

hippie, our hippie, happy, happy anniversary ! :confetti_ball::partying_face::tada::champagne::clinking_glasses::confetti_ball::partying_face::tada:

Up, and having a gin&tonic(Roku gin), because all this unloading aggravated my scurvy.

enjoy!

:cake: Happy Doperversary, Hippie!! :cake:

< Spot dislikes this post >

That’s the first time I’ve seen a whale nostril. thank you.

Just avoid the fields with a bunch of three legged sheep.

It was about 9 months before my Dad’s “You missed your what?” moment.

Midnight on August 1st. Yeah, I’d be walking the line. But Spot’s sign would be NO CHEESE NO PEACE!!!

There are a bunch of Poles in Michigan, too, which might explain he beets.

I’ve smashed mine so many times, a podiatrist would probably say “how the heck are they still attached?” if they looked at them.

nellie, glad you’ve got a surgery date. Fast!

Here’s who I went to Antarctica with. I also have taken a Norway Northern Lights cruise with them. Not the cheapest, but ecologically more sound than many, and high quality programming: Find Your Cruise | Hurtigruten Expeditions

They also often have air specials and solo travelers priced with no supplementary charge.

I’ve done something similar to the Santiago to Buenos Aires cruise with Holland America, in the other direction, and without the Antarctic cruising (which was why I had to go to Antarctica as a separate trip).
