(Old) Summers of Childhood Past in the MMP

I love Tank Girl! I have the comics, I saw the film when it came out (and I was really excited when I aw the trailer. ‘That’s Tank Girl!’), and I have the movie poster and the soundtrack. :sunglasses:

Well, we are home, and probably done for today. But we’ll be back there tomorrow. And Moanday.

I was working with a couple whose son will be attending this year. They were hard workers and we got a lot done, but there’s something about a woman who calls her husband “Daddy” that makes me marginally stabby. Still, we got the Cat6 and speaker wires pulled from the office to the tower in the center of all the classrooms. Then we removed all the old Cat5 cables that ran to 6 of the classrooms - that was a minor fiasco, but we got it done. And by we I mean they did most of the grubby work and I coiled up the cables that were removed. There’s a fortune in cables there - I’m guessing they’re all 50’ long at least, and there are 18 of them. So yoiks!!

The tower is in the center of an octagon shaped building. Seven of the sides are wedge-shaped classrooms, and the 8th side connects to the hall of the rectangular rest of the building. In case anyone’s curious:

Not sure what I’ll do now, apart from taking a breather. I’m beat! Maybe I’ll do something after some chillage.

I love Bandon. I hope you had fish & chips at the Fish Market, or dinner at Aloro Restaurant, which is truly exceptional.

Mowage achieved. My push mower is still being a whiny little bastard, so I had to use the weed whacker to do the corners.

Ok, I’m going to a party that a friend has hosted for years. This will be by far the largest social interaction I’ve had since the pandemic started. I think I can do 3 hours. I used to help set this thing up, but the past few years have altered my mental state. It’s a lake house party, so if the people on shore become too much, I can swim out to the pontoon float, I suppose. Wish me luck.

I remember long days like that. Wish I could help

Stang (past tense of sting) by a ground bee, so taking a break from weeding. It’s 85 of 92 predicted ferrets now, anyway, so I think I’ll tidy the garage. Retirement is so exciting. Tonight I’ll continue going through boxes from the workplaces, though we’ve now used up our re-watching of The Rings of Power so I’m not sure what we’ll run in the background. The Great Courses requires rather more attention.

Afternoon all. Relaxing in my motel in Charleston, managed to get here too late to start doing anything, so tomorrow will be my busy day. No expressway along the coast here, it’s all 4-lanes and stoplights, about 35 miles of 60mph in the middle, but a 90-mile drive will take you at least 2 hours. Did stop at Brookgreen Gardens along the way, it’s more a sculpture park set off by the gardens and pools, but still pretty nice. Walked over a mile and a half seeing stuff and am pretty well exhausted now. It’s 3pm and Fort Sumter tours close at 5pm and the USS Yorktown isn’t open on the weekends (pardon me, What!!!), so probably need to rest the sunburn and take it easy. Besides, I picked up a Saturday New York Times so I can outrage the MAGA’s tomorrow at Breakfast… May see what the indoor pool here is like.

Real Fish, Yes, unless you really like soup and oatmeal, I’d be looking for some new teeth when you can.

JtC, Nice plants, even if you’re castrating them…    :grinning:

shoe, ouch on the footsies, just keep telling yourself what you’re going to spend the extra loot on…

FCM, glad you got some good helpers.

Taters, might be a melancholy day, but your daughter will always be your daughter and always love you.

Oopsie, enjoy the music. Hard to think some of the Beatles biggest hits are nearly 50 years old now.

boo fae, enjoy your rambles about California.

VanGo, enjoy the party. I’m sure you’ll be fine.

OK, need to lie down for a bit and then think about swimming some, so all y’all take care.

The only downside to putting off showering (when I have plans) is that often I’ll get to a point where it’s too late to really start something — like another TV show episode — but there’s still time to kill. IOW, the next 30 minutes. So here I am, with House Hunters reruns on the TV and the Dope and NY Times Spelling Bee on my iPad.

You mean nearly 60 years old.

(I get “decades” math wrong all the time; I still feel like 1990 was only 20 years ago!)

Cruise is booked. Flights are booked. We need to arrange for critter care and for rides to and from the airport. Anybody wanna live in Amish country for 3-ish weeks in Jan/Feb?

I’ll turn 70 in the southern hemisphere! Party!

metal mouse I’ve been to Brookgreen Gardens. Don’t recall exactly where they were, I was a kid not involved with navigation. Someplace in the southeast portion of NC, as I recall. From some 35 years ago?

I made it almost three hours before I had to get out of the party. About what I expected.

Howdy Y’all! Been an unexpectedly rainy day here. Ah well, made the sloth and general overall uselessness feel better by stayin’ inside and dry. Also it’s only 85 Amurrkin out! BRRR! I might need my woolies! We’ve had a couple of big tstorms that brought a lot of rain and made for good nappage this afternoon. OK, time now for some Netflix and chill.

Just to get out of the house, we made a recon of the Lake Padden boat ramp. I saw other places where people access the lake, and we saw lots of kayaks and paddleboards. The lake by the boat ramp was pretty deserted. Anyway, SWMBO says we’ll use the boat ramp.

So we got out of the house for a little more than an hour.

Woohoo!

How awesome is that! I’m glad you aren’t using long term parking, that could be bad.

Yesterday there was a propane tank farm fire which jumped over to one of Sky Harbor’s long term parking lots and destroyed a bunch of cars. I feel super sorry for the car owners, they probably won’t have any idea they won’t have a way home until their plane lands and they learn that their parking lot is closed.

Tsk. I didn’t want to say that in front of the menfolks, some of them are rather sensitive about such things. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

About three hours is hubs limit as well after that he gets all peopled out and wants to go home and take a nap. I hope you have a great time.

I totally agree with you. Numbness is usually a sign of nerve damage and the more you do the same thing, the more damage you will do.

I think you should spend more time reading, that is easy on the wrists and hands.

Please stop letting this happen, it can’t be good for you.

i wasnt born until 76 lol my first space memory was the space shuttle and only missed watching Challenger go up by 2 minutes that fateful day because my class was on the 3rd floor of the school .and there were stairs …

That’s 2 of the very short list of things I miss about Indiana …CA doesn’t really do tenderloin and in summer relatives telling me that if I wanted corn on the cob we needed to go pick some from the field … from field to grill in about 5 minutes … had to be washed and inspected for bugs and such we didn’t shuck them totally until after grilling
to me beets= dirt and squash could go back to satan cause he created it …

My uncle used to say, grab the cobs off the stalk, and run back to the house, if you trip the corn isn’t fresh. This was Vermont.

A couple months after my 15th birthday.

JtC your mentionin’ Sky Harbor brought back some somewhat hazy memories. Once upon a time, long, long, ago I traveled for irk four to five times a year. One of the far away places I traveled to was Tucson. There was a time when Delta (bein’ from Jawja about ninety percent of travel involved Delta) did not fly direct to Tucson. Instead one flew into Sky Harbor and waited upon a Delta flight from Salt Lake City that continued on to Tucson. OK, so I did that a buncha times and always, always, always, the flight from SLC would always be late due to weather, like delayed for hours. Of course there was nuttin’ to do but drink and Sky Harbor had this wondrous little bar that one could smoke in right by the gate. I was a big smoker at the time. Good thing I never rented a car in Tucson but relied on Stagecoach, the shuttle thingy cause I was a snockered bear by the time I got on the plane. Fun flight too. It was all take off, ascend, level off, descend, and land. Thus endeth the absolutely pointless ramblin’ on from da bear.

Isn’t the bear’s birthday approaching?

shady, I think breaded tenderloins are peculiar to Indiana and Iowa. I usually have one when I come to visit. My mom was always a bit like VanGo’s people about sweet corn. We also had sliced tomatoes with cottage cheese for supper.

The family reunion went very well today. My 86 year old Aunt Janelle even made it from Oklahoma. Visiting was done, good food was et , music and cornhole were played and a good time was had by all. My cousin Rick won the commemorative cornhole boards raffled off to go into the reunion fund (Cousin Derek makes them).

Stay safe and healthy y’all!
