(Old) Summers of Childhood Past in the MMP

We’ve been known to eat them in Nebraska too, at least the parts close to Iowa.

Evening all. Didn’t go swimming (I was wrong, pool is out of doors and my shoulders are somewhat sunburned already) so did do some exploring around Charleston, downtown looks interesting and has lots of old houses (lucky for Charleston, Sherman and his Army did not come through here in 1865–or it might look quite different) but not enough to get out of the car in 98F heat. Did find the places I need to go tomorrow and booked a 9:30am tour to Fort Sumter, so that will take care of the morning. Rest of the day we’ll see, there is a good chance of rain for tomorrow. Have eaten and drank my fill so off to bed in a little bit.

FCM, hope you really enjoy that trip!

VanGo, it’s about 20 miles South of Myrtle Beach right on the way to Charleston. And glad you did well at the party; I’m not a party-goer either.

JtC, that must have been a real serious leak. I worked in Personal Property for awhile for the US Army, we had to tell a bunch of soldiers (and their families) that all their furnishings and stuff from Germany were lost because the containers had fallen off the ship and into the Atlantic…not a fun time.

swampy, been through Sky harbor a lot going to and from the Boeing Helicopter plant in Mesa, rather liked the airport but it’s soooo huge and the terminals were not all that well-connected then. But glad you found the good in it…(hic}.

red, glad everyone could make it there, sounds like fun.]

OK, need to head off to bed, am tired and need to be up early tomorrow, so take care all.

I almost forgot this happened because I can’t believe I didn’t get arrested, but last week I flew back east to visit family and get a few things taken care of regarding storage. I got all my shit cleared out - I own nothing on the east coast anymore - as well as collecting Mort the Cat, in ash form, as I forgot him at my sister’s house when I left originally a year and a half ago. Now I had never looked inside the little box I got. It’s nice little ornamental wooden box and I’ve got a condolence card from the vet, a little paw print in plaster and a certificate of cremation. It’s all very nice. What is inside the box is a nice little velvet bag with a drawstring, inside of which is a huge bag of whiteish powder.

I did not know this until the TSA guys flagged my bag to be searched. Let me tell you, you do not know sphincter clenching until a TSA agent holds up a kilo size bag of powder and says, “what’s this?”

“Oh, uh, my cat’s ashes,” I sputter, “I have a certificate …”
“It’s okay,” and he let’s me go.

Did that really happen or am I in prison somewhere in an alternate universe and I skipped time lines?

Judging by yet another day of chaos, all the customers are pushing out as much freight as possible, and Corporate is not hiring to fill positions until they can hire temp scabs in August. If other building management is as stress as mine is, they may join us on the picket lie if it comes to it. I went in at 0400, and got out at 1:45. Spot was unhappy I was late, so he riotred, knocked over some of my VCR tapes, and was clawing and biting me. But after a shower, a nap, and a Vieux Carré, I’m all right(apart from the purple toes).

Depends. How much gin do you have in your house? :cocktail:

[Old, bad joke]
A little old lady is running around the retirement home, flipping her nightgown out, and yelling “SUPER SEX! SUPER SEX!”. She runs up to an old dude in a wheelchair, flips up her night gown, and yells “SUPER SEX!” at him. He looks at her, and says “I’ll have the soup.”[/Old, bad joke]

I remember when smoking bars were a great thing. I don’t miss them, though. Sky Harbor used to be easy to get around, but it keeps growing and now it is just horrible.

That is always good to hear. Our family reunions always come with drama because of the sisters who won’t come if a different sister does. I’m not one of them because I go to be with Mom and don’t get involved in the drama.

It wasn’t a leak, it was a bunch of explosions and fire and smoke and excitement.

A friend and I went to see Oppenheimer. Superb movie, the kind you can’t discuss for awhile. I can’t recommend it highly enough. Then we went out for sushi.

If you’re in an alternative universe, it’s the same one I’m in, so call me if you need bail money. Good ol’ Mort. Where’d you stash Bob while you were away?

Once TSA sent me to a windowless room for interrogation because I had a jar of my sister’s award-winning jam in my carry-on. It wasn’t liquid, and at the time, jams and jellies weren’t on the Do Not Fly list. I offered to let the supervisor taste it, but he declined. I was tempted to say, “It’s da bomb!” but thought it would be unwise. He let me take it along, but right after that, jam and jelly appeared on the banned item list.

MetalMouse, a friend says Charleston is her favorite city. Sorry about the sunburn. Fort Sumter sounds like it’d be fascinating.

Shoe, the last thing you need is food to go OUT. You need more going IN. Hope you can rest up.

Yippee! We should all do some day drinkin’ in his honor.

Sounds like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

Will they be able to be sold?

Actually they’re close to 60 yrs old. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:
oops, ninja’d by Oopsie

Awesome! sorta jealous.

Walked to work and back. Went to Fitness Center; big mistake; will not go again on a Saturday morning at 11am. All 3 NuSteps were in use as was the leg press; had to wait about 15 minutes before I could get on a machine. Home for lunch then watched The British Open for awhile (anyone who wants to call it something else can bite me). As Tevya would say T R A D I T I O N! got to watch my guy for only 2 strokes as he’s not near the lead meaning no Speith cam this week. Then took a nap. Made another batch of Blueberry Peach Streusel Bars as requested by Hubs. Since I only had one peach, I also put in a stalk of rhubarb. Next time I’ll put in 2.

I think I’ll have a Kahlua and cream.

Night all.

Hangs head in shame. Hubs put an early Chewy order in today because he’s concerned you guys will get the other guys mad and we might run low on gushy fud.

And smokin too…except for the tobacco part.

Tomorrow I will get ready for my trip. I once again invited hubs to come with me, and he refused once again. He is such a stick in the mud, all he wants to do anymore is kill online monsters and feed animals. He’s probably not going to go to Texas with me in April and I would really like to experience the eclipse with him.

I have a friend who would love to stay in our home and play with our cats and eat our food and enjoy our AC, I trust her so much she knows where my good stuff is. Hubs thinks the cats would miss us and doesn’t want them to get scared when we are gone for so long. I really miss the man I married all those years ago.

Speaking of which, a couple of days ago, I dropped a knife. Like an idiot, I tried to catch it*. Even worse, I did catch it and the point caught under my wedding ring and took out an annoying piece of skin while leaving a bit of a flap. The whole wound was about a quarter of an inch total, but right under where my ring sits. I took my ring off to let the stoopid owie heal and put it back on today because not wearing it was too annoying.

*It was like a slow motion movie, the knife dropped, my hand shot out to grab it and my brain yelled “NOOOOOOOOO” just as I made contact and my fingers were releasing even before the pain registered. It was kinda cool to be honest. Except for the owie under my ring.

Fatal(Feline?) Attraction Cat

Good plan. 3 unhappy cats would be bad.

And I loved the early Strange New Worlds drop.

I will make a cake, at least a virtual one. And we can all wish him well in the morning, then drink and nap in his honor later on.

He stayed at home and looked after the place for me. My friend John came by to feed and walk him and stay overnight with him after the first night that he spent alone and barked and whined all night and I ended up getting a call from the office for a noise complaint. But, that’s the dog game, as they say.

My butthole snapped tightly shut in sheer sympathy when I read this & imagined myself in the same scenario.

I knew tonight would kinda suck - two Long Night shifts in a row, and I already felt like crap - so guess whose vape pen died today?

I was even looking at its replacement before leaving for work and for some psycho reason thought, “Nahhhh.”
Kept thinking longingly of it, sitting there so conveniently on my coffee table. At home.

Thank og for the emergency edibles stashed in my car.

One of my co-workers (actually, the guy I covered for last night) got in a good one on me. I was packing up a cheesy bread, which gets two dipping sauces. (Usually marinara, but some sociopaths want ranch, and the smart ones ask for garlic butter.)
Anyway, my brain momentarily hiccuped and I grabbed one, not two. He - gently - corrected my mistake, and I joked, “Man, I can’t even count to 2 tonight.”
Didn’t miss a beat: “Yeah, I remember being six months old, too.”

Well played, good sir.

I remember those days… specifically the day when you called me a cheap date!

That would be Saturday next. It’ll be his < snerk > b-day - not quite 70, IYKWIM

If that’s all it takes, I can get a case…

There was (briefly) a hookah bar on the main drag between us and Leonardtown. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t last - not sure if it was its location in one of the more Amish parts of the county or the very small parking lot or that people just aren’t smoking much these days. Anyway, the building just recently sold and someone’s been doing a lot of work there. Wonder what its next life will be?

Have you ever added Amaretto to it? VERY Yum!!!

Since my unfortunate incident last Thanksgiving, I’ve become really leery of knives. I still use them, but I check and double check and triple check every time I use one, especially the ceramic ones. I wonder if I’d feel the same way if my left thumb wasn’t still partially numb??

Another not-great night - It was close to midnight before I fell asleep and I woke around 5. We’ll probably go back to the school today instead of taking out the boat. Classes starts in a month and we need to have to network and the PA system up and running. We also need to go my MIL’s to give her a metric buttload of 'maters. I figure she can hand the excess out to other residents. Nothing else planned. Yet.

Forward, hoooooooo! Happy Sunday!!

Was yet again waaayyyyy too tired to eat anything. Gave in, lay down with Monkey … and conked out for a solid three hours.

Not great, but even just that beats hell outta the night before.

Now it’s dawn, and I have a frozen stuffed chicken boobie in the oven. Probably the world’s weirdest breakfast, but since day & night are basically reversed for me, I figgered I ain’t breakin’ any laws.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 87 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted for this afternoon/evenin’. We shall see. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization. I have Verge duty. Afterwards we shall grab a McN.O.L. and bring it back to da cave for consumption. I do indeed have a bday comin’ up next Sattidy.
< snerk > 69! < snerk >

shoe if breakfast for sup is acceptable then sup for breakfast is acceptable. Heck, go nuts and have high tea for brunch!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence. Happy Sunday Y’all!

Morning everyone, a little cooler here in Hades (77F). Oughta reach high 90s today, but who’s complaining?

After supper Friday night, I went out and opened the garage door. Being an expert in such things, I deduced from the shrieks and grinding noises (and no movement) that something was wrong with the door, and called the emergency-garage-door-fixing folks on their emergency-door-fixing line. Left a message that I was even willing to pony up their emergency fee 'cause I had things to do and needed it fixed quick. By 8 am Saturday I hadn’t heard a peep from them, so we lifted the door ourselves (proving that the springs were OK) and drove to Home Depot for a new opener. Since installing a new opener is a 2 hour job, we managed to finish it by suppertime. But it’s done and we got the belt drive version which is preternaturally quiet. (<- Always wanted to use that word in a sentence)

So… on to the day. Leaving today for nawth’n TX to do boat stuff. In addition to a way overdue cleaning, I’m driving it to the shop for the final powerwash/hull-cleaning so it can move to its new lake next week. I also arranged to have burly people with cranes and devices lift it onto its trailer, rather than us attempting to drive it on at a launch ramp. This was a disaster last time. I mentioned that we could save a whole lot of money by loading it ourselves, but mizPullin reminded me that divorces are expensive, and it would be cheaper to pay the experts. So I’ll let them handle it. Should be back by Wednesday or so, with stuff like dock-boxes, hoses/lines and bimini tops (assuming I can tie them to the truck somehow – they’re bigger than the truckbed). Once the loading folk call to say it’s secure on its trailer I’ll head back up to fetch it. Then do it all in reverse. Boating is so relaxing.

See y’all next week I guess. Have a good Sunday!

It’s very tempting. Unfortunately we have a cat to deal with, which screws up any travel notions.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. The usual cleaning and afternoon sloth. Spot is looking out the window and chirping, because squirrel.

Chicken is just really aged eggs, so it’s acceptable for breakfast.

What about Second Breakfast?

Mornin’ everyone

It’s 60F and sunny outside, with an expected high of 86.

I’m finishing coffee, then shower, and head to the grocery store. I still haven’t decided on side dishes yet, but I’ll figure it out when I arrive at the store.

I’m glad you and FCD have something nice to look forward to, FCM. I hope you enjoy the cruise, and I know you’ll share pictures!

I spent more time outdoors than indoors yesterday, but all I need to do inside before the kids arrive is run the rollsuck and complete some light dusting. Everything else is done. Oh! I need to do a couple of loads of laundry too. I managed to wash sheets, towels, and all the runner rugs (we lay a path down for Polar on the hard surface floors). Yeah, it’s not the best look, but they run from the carpet in front of the slider in a V to his water dish, and the opposite V is to the great room. Then I have another one that runs from the great room to the carpeted hallway that leads to the den and garage in one direction and to the front door and stairs leading to bedrooms in another direction. I keep his nails short, but he’s old and slippery floors scare him now. He’s fallen too many times and struggled to get up.

I’ve got the sprinkler going and will move it in around 30 minutes then get in the shower. Things to do, places to go, people coming to visit! Going to be a busy a day!

Morning, all!

Last night’s acoustic Beatles tribute band wound up being very good. You never know what you’re in for with a free show, but my friends and I agreed that we would have paid a cover charge/for tickets. The band helpfully had Venmo QR codes taped to the tables, so we tipped them. We’ll definitely go hear them again. And the weather cooperated: it was a bit sunny/warm when we arrived at 6pm, but by the time the music started the sun had gone down enough that it was pretty comfortable.

Today I’ll be going to brunch-time jazz jam session: I’m meeting another friend at the venue in about 40 minutes (at 11am). I’m not 100% sure yet if I’m going to want to sing, but I made copies of a couple of charts – and will also bring a mic/cable/music stand – just in case. Worst case, I’ll sit around eating good food, talking with my friend, and listening to jazz…not a bad way to spend a few hours on a Sunday.

Time to take the doggy out and get ready to leave. Have a great day, everyone, and if I don’t post later I’ll see y’all in the next MMP!

Woo hoo!!

I’m so glad!

And I have a cousin Rick, too. Mine just had a birthday: he was born 1 year after the moon landing.

HA! Glad it ended well.
