(Old) Summers of Childhood Past in the MMP

Afternoon all. Up early to get downtown and catch the boat over to Fort Sumter. The ride back and forth took as much time as the time we had at the fort, but it was sufficient to see everything. Then drove over to see Fort Moultrie (flyboy could kayak it from Fort Sumter faster than I could drive it) and spent much sweaty time there. Then back to the hotel, showered, changed and had a steak dinner at Ruby Tuesdays (food was good enough, but very over-priced IMHO). Stormy weather is around and about, and I have nothing else planned for the day, so reading and internettin’ should keep me occupied.

Jack Bats, quite a story with the TSA. Glad the guy was understanding.

doggio, ah, nothing like those 10-hour shifts…

JtC, hubs is what he is, and you decided to tolerate that many years ago; so just go and do what is fun for you. And glad the knife cut wasn’t too bad; you’ll have to nickname that knife ‘Mack’ now… Safe travels.

shoe, hope you get a little break from work, those long shifts can wear anyone down.

Well, something was leaking to get the party started… :astonished:

nellie, plan to see Oppenheimer when I get back home. Thanks for the review.

Yeah, it would have been.

Yeah, the Brits are big on “THE”. THE Open. THE Times. Guess some of that Empire arrogance never went away.

FCM, glad the Antarctic trip is booked and flights found.

Yanker, I’ve always left the garage door opener stuff to the pros, but good on you for managing it.

Major lesson for married couples!!!

Oopsie, glad the Beatles tribute was worth the time and money.

Pilot, hope Ms. Pilot is doing better. Something is messing up her internal system, hope it stays away.

Cookie, best of luck with grandson.

Apologies and extra hugs to anyone I missed, being away from here for 19 hours it is really hard playing catch-up. Take care all and I’ll see you on the next MMP.

It’s another gorgeous day here. I’m heading out for a walk–alas, not a hike–shortly, hopefully before the kids call. I’m excited that I’ll get to see my daughter in less than two weeks!

We Yanks do the same, regionally speaking. When I lived in Wyoming, “The Park” meant Yellowstone. All other parks, city, state, or national, got their full names. Britain is about the same size as Wyoming, which seems relevant somehow. The main difference is that in one, the furry hats are on guards, and in the other, they’re on bison. Also, tourists in Britain don’t poke the furry-hat wearers.

Boo, I think my daughter suffers from abdominal migraines. I told her about them awhile back, and she’s going to ask her doc next visit. It’d make sense, as her brother has had chronic migraine for years. :frowning:

FCM, does the school have sprinklers, or how will the plants you’re donating get watered? With all your work, maybe the school will get renamed after you and FCD! The Fairy Chat Academy sounds like a place I’d want to attend.

Oopsie, you sure go to some fun concerts!

Every bedside table should have a drawer full of cat.

This is actually kinda new. He used to be up for a trip on a moment’s notice. I don’t have to have him with me, I just like to have him along.

It looks like mom isn’t going to get that bottle of wine after all. There is a fire by Badger Springs which has backed the interstate as well as the local highway I would want to use to come home. There is another longer way, but that involves going south on the backed up interstate as well.

True that!

You have a safe journey as well

Be careful what you wish for:

Neither do the tourists in Yellowstone. Leastwise not more’n once.
Although I suppose fuzzy-poking would end equally badly for tourists in the UK.

Yaay! That oughta be great.

Our bed has a storage foundation with drawers in lieu of a boxspring. Both cats have been found nesting in a drawer at times.

Koritza opens the drawers to take things out, lager notices the opened drawers and snoozes in them. He needs koritza to open them.

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated. The search committee did not meet (yay!) so we got a McN.O.L., brought ‘em back to da cave, et, and then achieved nappage. It rained some this afternoon but not a whole lot. Been an afternoon of high sloth. We are havin’ men’s night over to the church house tomorrow night (delayed it a week due to VBS) so steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. The biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Chillage and sloth continues. Thus is the news from swampland.

… I mean this doesn’t look that suspicious.

Imgur

No, but you can grab little bags of peanuts by the entrance. We take them to go. I think their rolls are da bomb!

Chillage continues.

Me: Yay, a box from pilot! [Listens carefully.] Waaaait a minute…

True, but I think the Guard are too sophisticated to gore people. There’s a bar in my old Wyoming town that keeps tracks of tourists who f— around and find out. Some of them end up in the local hospital (depending on where in the park they piss off the bison). Proof once again that Instagram never made anyone smarter, right?

I miss her! I don’t get to see her as often as I do her brother because she lives on the other side of the state.

Hope Her Ladyship is feeling better!

You mean that’s not what those drawers are for? Asking for a feline friend.

I like the teamwork!

Happy Saturday!

It was a nice cool 64 degrees this morning when I sat outside with the pups for a bit.
It’s supposed to get up to 84.

I wanted to sleep in this morning, but I was awakened by a THUD! Misiu fell off the bed. I called him a few times and when he didn’t respond, that really woke me up.
He was just sleepy, nothing wrong.

I didn’t contact the lawyer yesterday; it will wait until Moonday.
I’m burnt out on bullshit.
I got a text from my niece, saying everybody needs to sign so we can get our checks.
I haven’t responded yet, just going to continue to bury my head in the sand for a few more days.

I am going to look at a house tomorrow.
It has everything I am looking for, mostly.
All one floor, no basement, no attic, 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, large fenced backyard, 2-car garage with extra storage space, outside city limits. The kitchen looks nice, there’s a pantry, and a separate laundry room.
It’s on a third of an acre of flat land and not a lot of trees and shrubbery to mow around.
The garage is not attached to the house, but the fence is level with the front of it, so if I park in the garage, the dogs can go through the side door to get in the truck and I won’t have to worry about leashes and them pulling me.
The downside… It’s a trailer that has been added onto the front and back. I don’t know a lot about how that will work as far as maintenance and all. It has been remodeled and from the pictures it looks nice.
The other downsides are my son’s commute to work will go from 10 minutes to 20 minutes, and there are what looks to be four stairs between the addition and the trailer. Four stairs are a lot better than 15 stairs. There’s no railing, but that shouldn’t be too expensive to have installed.
Also, outside of city limits means a well, septic, no trash pickup, giving up a few things I am used to.
No city taxes or water bill, but need to set aside emergency funds to replace the well and septic.
Everything is electric, and I don’t know if electricity is subsidized if you are outside city limits.
If not, it could get very expensive.

The thought of moving makes me ill, but if I stay here, the renovations I’d want to make would probably cost as much as moving.

If it wasn’t for pesky things such as money and financing, I’d buy

this house

I thought it was a bit overpriced, but when you find out it comes fully furnished, well there you go.
It’s actually a steal at what they are asking!
And who doesn’t want their own personal helicopter pad?

I haven’t signed my son up for driving school yet. He promised me we would go out on his days off without any bullshit from him. He started to protest going out today, but I gave him the look and he resigned himself to going.
I still want him to take a few lessons from the driving school.
I also let him know we are looking at a house tomorrow, and he didn’t protest that either.
He doesn’t want to move, but he knows, the older I get the more of a problem the stairs will be.
Putting in an elevator is $30,000, and not worth it in this house in this neighborhood.

The GR are growing and growing.
They used to be able to walk under Echo, not anymore.
Poor Misiu sits in front of me staring at me. I know he wants to sit in my lap, but I can’t pick him up anymore.
My son picked him up and put him in my lap today, Misiu just wiggled all over.
Poor boy, he is going to be too big to be a lap dog.

Most of the pain in my legs and feet is gone now.
My knee is bad but I’ll be getting a gel shot for that on the 31st.
I’m getting the epidural on the 28th, and I am very nervous about that. I have to find out if I’m allowed to drive afterwards. There is nothing in the paperirk about driving. Some friends have told me they were told not to drive themselves home. My son will have enough confidence I hope by then, and if he doesn’t want to drive the highway, there is a back way that we can use.

Happy Travels MetalMouse and BooFae.
I haven’t been to Myrtle Beach in over 50 years. I’m sure it has changed a lot since then.

I’m glad your family reunion went well Red.
On my WV side of the family, there were (in season) sliced tomatoes and chunks of cantaloupe at every meal. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I agree with you on beets Shady, but I like squash, as long as somebody else fixes it.

Good Luck on the upcoming surgery, Nellie.
I dread the thought of surgery.

Get some rest, Shoe. Being that tired is not good for you.
I had a night job once; I’d get so tired I’d start hallucinating.
One night I saw two mermen coming down the road with boxes of chocolates for me.
Made sense at the time.

RealFish, you should get the numbness checked out.

What pretty flowers JtC!
I wish we could grow that here.

I found out the flowers I like are actually Bindweed, which is type of morning glory.
Imgur
It’s poisonous to horses, but I don’t have any of those.

Happy Sunday!

It’s warmer today, but not too bad if you stay in the shade.

We went to look at the house.
I really like it, it’s all corn and cows where it is.
Nice view of the mountains from the back yard.
The layout is a bit strange, because it has been added onto, but the layout would work for us. One of the bedrooms has a door to the backyard, very convenient if I need to let the pups out. It is a very small bedroom though.
The kitchen is better than what I have, and there is a nice pantry.

The only problem is the stairs between the additions. They are mostly half steps, and only three or four, but there are four sets of them as well as a set of two down into the pantry. It wouldn’t be hard to put in railings, or as the home owner suggested, even just put in those bars like you put in a bathtub.
They weren’t a big problem for me, but it may get worse as I get older.

Rayleigh is sick, I don’t know if he needs the vet.
Have to run.

Would putting in ramps be prohibitive if you get the new house?

That face, that outfit, and that bag? I’m surprised you’re not posting from Gitmo. Sometimes being older has its advantages. 18- or 25-yo you woulda had a rougher time.

As long as I can grab 'em on the way in, not out, and eat 'em at the table I’m sufficiently mollifed. Barely. The real value was to be able to pitch spit-covered shells at the feral children at nearby tables.

Ohh, I didn’t mean it that way. Sorry. Bobcats for Nellie sounds like an even sadder movie than Flowers for Algernon.

I just meant that you (or Chair) opening a drawer that held an accidentally trapped cat would not go smoothly. They seem to like to curl up and go to sleep in places that invite later closing. Like dryers, drawers, and cabinets.

Her Ladyship is awake, low energy, and lazy but otherwise in fine fettle. I expect she’ll not eat until tomorrow. If then. I’m fixin’ to heat up the last of my Korean ramen-like stuff once I post this.

There’s nothing quite like a good cuddle with your playful, affection cat. Then he wipes an eye booger on your mustache. But before that I cleaned, dusted, vacuum, changed the litter in the cat shitter, and took out the garbage and recycling. Good thing, because it’s gonna rain soon, and now Future dogbutler won’t get wet.

Just hope they put in the right weight. One time, I had a 6x9 in envelope that was 1.1 pounds, but they put the decimal point 2 places to the right, which meant the cost on that went from $17 to $184. :grimacing:

< whispers > who wants to tell her

Around her locals refer to the town of Fuquay-Varina as “The Quay”

You posted this pic on “The Dope”. You now have your own full time DEA agent.

“Hey boss, I need 2 weeks off to go swill gin with a pug.”

Spot is not a box and bag cat. He prefers sleeping on top of furniture.

People put ‘free stuff’ across the street on the corner, next to the fire hydrant. When I got back from my walk, I noticed it had all been moved to in front of the power pole, in front of my Jeep. As we were preparing to go out for ‘dinner’, someone came to the door to ask about it. She’s friends with the person who owns the property next door. She asked us to keep an eye out to see if we can see who moved it.

We drove the MG down to Bay Breeze for ‘dinner’ and Old Fashioned. Now we’re home, and the cats have been fed.

Probably not.

It’s a nice house, and the realtor, a friend, says it is a good price.
The garage is huge, and can fit two cars in the front. There is another room big enough for two more cars, but there is a wall between, so the back room is a workshop.
The yard is securely fenced, chain link and about 5 feet high.
The home owner said the neighbor to one side is quiet and I’d seldom see them.
The neighbor to the other side, who is very close, has dogs and fosters dogs, so there should be no issues with my dogs.

The entire inside has been remodeled and there is nothing that says it used to be a trailer.

I think if there were railings for the stairs, I would be okay with them as they are half steps.
Although both my son and the realtor had a problem with the stairs between the kitchen and living room. The top step is very low, and neither of them noticed was a step.

My son likes it except for the bathrooms.
One bathroom has a walk-in shower, the other bathroom has a soaker tub.
My son likes to shower off after a bath, to do that he’d have to go from one bathroom to the other.

Well, I can’t do anything until the estate stuff is straightened out.
If somebody else makes an offer on it before then, the decision is out of my hands.

Rayleigh is not well, but the emergency vet thinks he doesn’t need to go in.
I hate when I get conflicting information.
When a Shar Pei has a fever, you give them aspirin, because it is likely to be Shar Pei fever and aspirin is the treatment.
Most vets get very upset when you give them aspirin, and the emergency vet said not to.
I went ahead and gave him two baby aspirins.
He looks so pitiful.

We didn’t get to bed until after midnight, so he might just be very tired, although he is running a slight fever.
We were out late for my son to drive at night. He finally was comfortable enough to leave the parking lot and drive on the road that goes through the park.
We were going to go driving again tonight, but not with Rayleigh this way.
I don’t want to leave him home alone, but I don’t want to take him out either.

I’m glad they didn’t confiscate your cat’s ashes and send them to a lab for testing, Batty.

No early bedtime for me, I won’t be able to rest until Rayleigh perks up.

The one sister that doesn’t get along with the rest of the sibs hasn’t been to one in years, since at that one, only a few people spoke to her (she pissed off a few of the cousins too).

Actually, he’s one of three cousin Ricks. There’s him, his son and my Uncle Ron’s son Rick. The one who won the cornhole boards was born shortly after Little Ricky from I Love Lucy was.

You may want to put a yellow strip on that step if you get the house sari. A hand held sprayer for the tub is a fairly easy install. You or a handyman should be able to do it without the help of a plumber.

Home again, home again, jiggity jog. The trip home had several delays that caused it to be about 1.5 hours longer than it should have been. The worst one was around Columbus, IN. There was a Right lane closed ahead sign, so everyone dutifully merged left. Except that the closed lane wasn’t for another 6 miles. Several others and I got back into the right lane and merged when it closed. As I had planned a pit stop for the rest stop just south of Columbus, my bladder was about to burst by the time that I got to the first exit available. That one added an hour to the trip. The next one was south of Louisville. I preemptively got into the right lane and made a stop at the rest stop part way through. The car behind me did the same. They had been in the one in Indiana too and had the same issues. They were headed to a town about 40 miles further down I24 than I was. This one wasn’t as long of a back up as the first, so it only slowed me down by 20 minutes. There was a wreck near Bowling Green that slowed things down another 10 minutes. All I can say is that there’s no place like home (clicks ruby slippers).

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Your congregation and mine should have a contest on who gets a new pastor first.

Before buying a hermaphrodite like that I’d want to speak directly and frankly to the building permit department of the city or county where you are.

Things are different in different states, and rural is quite different from (sub-)urban. But if I was to hazard a guess, all that work was unpermitted and probably therefore illegal.

If so, the property may be totally uninsurable. Or said another way, an insurance company would be happy to sell you a policy, since they don’t investigate first. But if you have a casualty loss, they will inspect both the building and the permitting history and if my suspicions are correct, promptly void the policy. Now you’ve paid premiums and gotten no coverage. That’d be a bad outcome while sifting through the wreckage of your home & worldly goods.
