Cleaned, dusted, vacuumed, took the trash and recycling out. Now it’s Monsoon II: Electric Boogaloo. I’ll do a couple of loads of sheets afterwards.
He already feels comfortable enough to chew and claw the sofa.

I do know about Tim Horton’s and wouldn’t mind sampling them, but the nearest one is over 400 miles away, and that’s a little far to go for a treat, no matter how good. Will stick with the Krispy Kreme place every couple of months.
Real Fish, love those bookmarks, I had some from Powell’s Books in Portland, OR, but they have been well-used and are getting a bit tired and torn. And take care of yourself–that’s an Order!!
Pilot, I remember the great St. Louis flood of 1993 and getting a call from my mom worrying about me. Had to reassure her that I was 15 miles from the Rivers and on fairly high ground. But, you know, moms…
FCD, glad it wasn’t anymore serious than that.
doggio, sounds like the feline emperor has deigned to recognize his subject.
Have done the major provisioning run for May, still need to get a few here and there items, but think I’ll head over to the gym now (it closes at 6pm and it’s nearing 4pm here) so I can work up a sweat to I have a good reason to usethe bathtub and see if the caulk seal holds this time. Outside of that only need to make up the weekly plan/menu and then sloth can reign supreme.
Take care all.
Circa 2005 or 6, my daughter and some friends went on a cruise out of Fort Lauderdale (I think) that went to Key West and the Bahamas - just a little quickie jaunt not too far from south FL. There was a hurricane off the northern coast of South America. MIL called us to see if we could contact our daughter and have her tell the captain of her ship about the hurricane. So, I know whereof you speak!
We’re home again. The bilge is cleaner than it’s been since we’ve owned the boat. We learned about the portion that goes under the engine pan and we devised a way to scrub it. But the Simple Green did a good job with cleaning and getting rid of the diesel smell. With luck, tomorrow we’ll be able to pull the wires we were supposed to pull today. For now, chillage.
It’s been rainy/drizzly/dreary all day, but sun is promised tomorrow, even if the temps will be about 10° below average. I’ve got a mess of laundry to do on Tuesday - Tobias can help me! I’m in my fuzzy robe, FCD is in the shower, Higgs is glad we’re home. And that’s the news from FairyChatEstates.
I can ask about the 529. I am a relative, his grandfather is my first cousin so the young man is my first cousin twice removed.
The weather here is beautiful, if just a touch cool. Bright and sunny.
I also deheathenized by livestreaming today. My right knee was hurting again.
I am a fair weather church goer, as I have to wait for buses. So lager took advantage and lapsat for a good half hour.
Then I watched some hgtv and moved things around again.
Now I’m binging Indian matchmaking.
Nice bookmarks fishy.
metal mouse, the next time you’re in this area, I’ll give you some bookmarks (they tend to be part of scrap management in the studio. I usually send them on when I make a shipment to Cards for Soldiers to be put in their card package or to go to the ones that they send to the VA hospitals.).
Messed around in the studio, still working on scrap management, then made / et Sunday dinner (twas good). I may have to speak to one of my neighbors about their off leash dogs. I was outside with Nelson this afternoon when one of them came over to visit and knocked over my sweet basil pot. They tore up my elephant ears last summer and I would like to be able to keep some plants.
Quite interesting when you’re on something bigger, though. One day in the Med there were seven of them in view, though they were spread far enough apart that the OOD could only see three or four at a time through the periscope.
My FIL collects duck decoys.
60 F, and the sky is falling. 90% chance of more rain tonight; mostly sunny Monday morning, then more rain continuing through Thursday (with a break Tuesday night). Bleah. Fluff and her kittens seem to be all right under the rabbit hutch, though.
I used three tubes of silicone attempting to seal the inside of the greenhouse. I still have one panel and the top of a panel to do. I probably could have finished it, but I have no clue what I’m doing and got more goop on my fingers and a rag than on the structure. (Slight exaggeration.) I still have the outside to do, but I’ll wait for better weather.
Very blustery day today, but we donned our snoods and jerkins and met up with dawter and grandson for lunch. A merry time was had by all. Came home, fed the cat, and crashed from the carb overload. Hoo-boy.
Here’s a good intro. 529s have complex definitions of who’s a “relative”. 529s are especially useful if the person to be helped is some sort of “special needs” person perhaps on disability or assistance. But they’re certainly not limited to folks like that; they were originally aimed at ordinary folks.
A gotcha with helping somebody pay for college is that any gifts end up counting as wealth which often causes the institution to withdraw needs-based scholarships, tuition credits, and such. 529s provide one of several ways to end-run that problem.
Bottom line: it’s complicated and there are lots of ways for gifts to students or would-be students to backfire at least partially, and often significantly. Play it smart or you’ll be pissing money away.
My day ended up with heavy rain for 30 minutes around 11am then gray, then a short bout of light rain then clear since about 1pm. Whatever damage the weather may have done, it was a lotta miles from here.
Did get the car washed and groceries bought. Her Ladyship made non-sweet cornbread and bean-less scratch chili for dinner. Both quite nice.
Now after dinner I’m balconying while looking at a nearly cloudless sky, the western sun shining on the eastern sea. It’s breezy & warm.
NA, you get that job we’ll have a local Doper event to celebrate. Several of us are in the area. And we love our libraries.
Duly noted! It’s an absurdly long shot, but I’ll keep y’all posted.
Of course it does!!! I don’t know why it is called needlepoint now but the needles are referred to as Tapestry needles. The stitch that probably bored your first wife so much was called the tent stitch. It’s the first stitch any beginner learns, just a diagonal stitch over one or the designated number of fabric threads. It’s pretty boring IMHO and if I’m faced with using it to fill large areas, I usually buy extra thread and do basket-weave instead just for the variety.
As the Tent stitch was originally developed for sewing canvas tents and other heavy fabrics or leathers together, the nomenclature is understandable. When sewing something heavy like that, it is easier to use blunt needles that don’t pierce the heavy, thick threads but moves the warp and weft threads to go between the them. Or else use an awl to make holes and then use the blunt needle to go through the holes instead, which is how leather was usually sewn.
Needlepoint decorated castle walls for centuries became even more popular during the very ornate 17th and 18th centuries because it worked so well for upholstery and drapes.
The women back then would have seriously swooned to see and handle the delightful fibers and work the lovely stitches I am fortunate enough to be able to enjoy.
Yes, I am stoned and I have been stitching, how did you possibly guess?
I don’t know if you have noticed from my pics, but I always write TOP on the top of my canvas. It has saved me so many unhappy hours of frog stitching because I used to sometimes manage to turn my canvas one way and the pattern the other way and disaster and many bad words resulted.
I should have known that you would have though about that. I’ll bet the recipients treasure it. How many copies are you doing?
I took a weekend trip to Japan during cherry blossom season back when I was stationed in Okinawa. It was truly lovely. I still treasure the memory of walking under the slow petal fall with color all around. Just beautiful.
I have dealers. I have friends and pushers and subscriptions to other pushers. During the pandemic, I did more than one parking lot deal, LOL!
I really like Family Arts in Phoenix because they are a volunteer run non-profit. I’m a member of the Shining Needle Society and a couple of guilds.
What sort of thing do you like to do? I like doing bare canvas, but I’m seeing a lot of painted canvas pieces that have fun looking stitches. If you are thinking about doing even-count linen work, talk to me before buying any fabric. Actually, if you are going to kit your patterns out yourself, talk to me about thread first. Especially if you are needing pearl cottons because I have soooooo many pearls.
You have shared pictures of what you have done and I think you are right, you have been very successful at beautifying your yard.
I wonder if she is holding out for home cooked dawg fud. Sari has shared some recipes…
Just the mess and lost diesel sounds horrible, but what is DNR and why is would you need to get your insurance company involved?
This is good and I hope you continue improving.
Those are cute bookmarks and certainly do count for creativity! I’d never have thought to do that.
Hurray, you have a cat!!!
JtC. I don’t want to make anything, just do the needling. I have a fairly comprehensive guide to stitches and really just want the soothing of needlepoint. My very first project was a stitch sampler and I wouldn’t mind doing that again. Also, I love bargello. I’m a wool kinda gal.
Evening all. Sweat was worked up (about 550 calories pedaled away over an hour, plus 25 minutes sauna time), so a long hot bath was much appreciated. Dinner has been consumed and is happily assimilating in my digestive tract, so an evening of internettin’ and readin’ are on tap.
FCM, glad the bilge is clean.
Had to look that up…didn’t know the Indian subcontinent copied our silly TV shows (or did we copy theirs??).
Ok, need to press the sloth button and be about it. Take care all.
Happy Sunday!
Rainy morning at the park.
There was some drama, but this time between dogs, not people.
Lui didn’t like Echo for some reason today.
No blood, so all is okay.
I haven’t done much of anything today. Mostly sleeping. I guess I need it.
However, laundry needs to be done, the house needs cleaning, and paperirk is in disarray.
Trash goes out tonight. I’ve gotten everything together; my son will take it out.
Thanks for all the airport info.
I’m still looking for somebody to go with me.
It would be great if Lucy dad could go. He grew up a few miles from there. He and his friends would ride their bikes down to watch the planes land and take off.
However, he can’t go.
I guess my son can go, although he isn’t much help with navigation. I can ask Barky/Humpy mom. She probably knows the airport anyway. Her husband is from Guatemala and she is always ferrying people back and forth from airports.
I am just really nervous about the drive. I have to get on 495 and that is insanity.
Anyway, it’s late and while I read everything, I don’t remember much.
Not that y’all are boring, but I kept falling asleep while reading.
Oh and DNR Department of Natural Resources.
Probably something about spilling gas into the water.
FCM would know more about that.
Maryland takes anything concerning the bay and waterways very seriously.
I used to pet sit for some people who lived in a watershed.
For every tree they cut down they had to plant three.
They had a bunch of diseased and dying trees cut down, 13 of them. Which meant that they had to plant 39 trees to replace them. I said where the hell are you going to put 39 trees? They had only cleared enough land to put in a house, a driveway, and a tiny yard. The rest of the acreage was dense woods.
They were able to get an exemption from the county, because there was simply no place to plant that many trees.
I certainly do understand that part!
Did you like this one? I would be happy to send you the pattern (yes, I can give the pattern away as long as I do not keep a copy for myself.)
This is a smaller sampler piece and I have since learned a better way to keep those silly beads in place…plus could send you the beads with the pattern.
Addicts tend to encourage others to become fellow addicts so we don’t feel all alone and stuff.
Thanks so much for the info.
RealFish I’m very glad to hear that you are on the mend.
Finally cleared up this afternoon; it’s been raining for 3 days. Worked out on the NuStep at the Fitness Center. I really didn’t want to work out on any of the other machines but felt like I needed more exercise so on the way home I stopped at a park and walked through the woods nearby. There’s a river next to most of the trail. Saw/heard a lot of birds; also saw 2 deer and a huge raccoon. I haven’t been on this trail since sometime last year. There’s been a whole lot of erosion and the rainstorms/windstorms took down a lot of trees.
Had Million Dollar Pasta Casserole and honeyed carrots for dinner. Hubs asked for brownies so I made them out of Betty Crocker Dark Chocolate Brownie Mix and also chopped up some walnuts and added them in.
Now watching one of my very favorite movies - Shawshank Redemption. Either get busy living or get busy dieing.
See you all in the new thread.
I took a nap. I reposted Darci’s poster on social media. I took a walk, not sure if I’d actually see her, but I was hoping maybe she’d see me walking around with cheese slices, and come running. Now I’m having a Wisconsin Old Fashioned, while the poke loin and N.O.Ts cook.
This is why I buy $12 particleboard furniture from Tar-Jay, instead of one of a kind Louis XIVI chairs. Also, somebody left a booger on my bedroom window.
