(Old) The first day of school in the MMP

Cute: Your car leaning his head against your ear.
Not so cute: Cat’s breathing against ear sounds like a garbage disposal.
But having a Mexican Firing Squad in my new Tiki glassses

It belongs in a museum!

After 30 years of retail management, yes.

Oh, i was thinking of shit like hepatitis and HIV but … uh … okay.

That works, too.

I’m pretty fancy with words, but I had to google what that could possibly mean in a committee sense.

Now I have to ask: is the committee discerning HER?

Bastards.

That was on the radio waaaayyy over here on the Lakeshore radio, too!

Jeebus FUCK, I left Texas for this?!?

Humidity, tornadoes, Trump-y rednecks … y’all lucky there aren’t cockroaches around here AND IF THERE ARE ANY SHOOT ME IN THE FACE and just say, “Ssshhh.”

… do you know what a decent mechanic charges to fix that shit?
Especially if you call him “cute” … most charge extra 'round here for that.

At the very least, your tires need to be aligned.

She actually really sweet and tentative, and on the rare occasions when she does offer any, it’s preceded by "Do you want to…? and followed by, “Up to you. You know better.” If you need a Tough Love approach, she’s definitely not your gal. Her surgeon was 100 miles from her home and never said how long she should use a walker or why. She felt stable, so she and I both thought she didn’t need it, and at her post-op appointment, nobody said a word about it. It’s at least as much my fault tht I tried to ditch it, maybe more.

I probably shouldn’t give myself any medical advice! I don’t think graduating 5th out of 4 at the Dr. Nick School of Surgery and Juice Loosening qualifies me to say much.

WAG from a recovering catlicker:

The committee is talking with her to see if she is perhaps has a vocation or calling to church service, such as becoming a minister or pastor. Helping her discern if she has a true calling.

Or maybe I just read too many novels.

Do I get a cookie?

Before I went to see Mom, I got Covid, flu and my DTap shot shots all in the same arm and at the same time cause I’m a side sleeper. My nice shot giver shared his outrage that he was giving people whooping cough vacs again, he said he never gave those shots to adults before the world went stoopid.

Do let us know how the RSV works out, it won’t be available here until the end of Sept. and I do like to know what to expect.

Ohhhh, thank you so much! I stopped baking when hubs went low carb, but now I have friends who say they adore my cooking and I’m baking again. I really missed baking a bunch, but hated throwing stuff out because it didn’t get eaten.

I didn’t know he sang.

j/k, I didn’t know either of those things, thanks for sharing. As you already know, playing with needle and thread can help settle your mind and focus.

I wish you well. I know I make fun of government work but it really does come with a lot of bennies and protections.

My last job was food stamp eligibility worker. I loved the job itself, I was being paid to give food to children which was great. It was the politics and petty kingdom building I had issues with and micromanagement is the norm. I smoked so much more weed back when I was working despite having so much more time available to smoke weed now that I’m retired.

While you are looking at that state job, also look at Federal jobs. There are nice city and county jobs out there too. The most important part of government work is to show up on time every day you are scheduled and do your best.

Your jam sounds yummy, I hope your new pot works out well.

Poor kiddo, being lost is pretty scary for someone that age. But, being a wise man, you knew that ice cream solves all so everything had a happy ending.

nellie, I am so glad all is as well as it can be for you. I’m also happy that you got your purse back, there really are some good people out there.

So, I have been super unmotivated today which was really strange because I had TC this morning and that usually energizes me. I think it was because I kept checking the news to see what was going on with the orange one. I hate that he has so much headroom so I signed up to be a poll worker. I haven’t been using my cane much lately, but I’ll be sure to bring it with me if I’m selected to work.

I shared some of my surplus produce with NF as usual and warned her that summer’s bounty was almost over so TC friend started telling her about the great stuff our surplus boxes had over the winter. Everything TC friend mentioned was packaged and processed and then she started talking about how important it was to eat a healthy diet. NF looked at me and we both rolled our eyes and then went back to listening respectfully while “hugging the tree”. We’ve got way too good at not laughing!

The grass has taken over our clover patch again and is going to seed. We actually have a knee deep meadow out there now due to the rain. I love it, the Buntings are going nutz eating the seeds and the butterflies like the other stuff. Hubs thinks we need to have someone come and take everything down before the trees are planted. I just gifted him a Diablo 4 upgrade, so he will probably forget about the meadow until a day or so before the tree guys show up. Everything will be dying off by then and the birds can play until they migrate.

dang!, I forgot about the whole side sleeper thing. So far so good~the flu shot is a little warm to the touch, a titch swollen and sore if pressed (so don’t press it, duh), but not enough to keep me from sleeping on it. Nothing from the RSV injection site. I remembered that the RSV went in without me feeling it.

I’ve been an election worker on and off for 20 years~I thoroughly enjoy it. Democrats are thin on the ground here and law requires there being a balance of repub and demo workers, so my democratness is in demand. 13 hours chatting on a folding chair in a church social hall, endless coffee, shared snacks, what’s not to love?

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

You’re Spot on with your criticism. (and I need to order a new wireless keyboard)

Sure!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 97 and N.O.S. for the day. Not much happenin’ today, so the usual sloth and general overall uselessness shall rule the day. We are goin’ to Sonny’s for today’s main feed as they have a deal of two meats (ribs and chikin here I come!), two sides, and a choice of bread for $11.99. That should fill us up!

Nellie glad you made it to the doc and glad the bus driver found your purse.

Taters good on you for standin’ up to TPTB!

Cat_Glove to be clear, I am not preachin’ as in I wrote a sermon, cause that ain’t ever happenin’, but I am readin’ a sermon I found off a site for sermons. I wish your daughter the best in her discernment process. I’ve seen people go through that and it’s a long and throrough process for sure.

Boo I’ll get my flu shot when I go see the doc in September. That was already on the agenda for that day. I’ll ask about the RSV vaccine while there. I also need to see about the latest Covid booster and schedule for the Shingles vaccines. I am ashamed to say I have not already gotten the Shingles vaccines as I should have done that a long while back.

MetalMouse you deserve a gold star for your good deed. :star: :star: :star2: :star2:

Vroom shall we keep appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed for the possible guvmint gig?

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

Mornin’ all. It’s almost 6:30, and this’ll be quick as I must start my day soonest. Been balconatin’ and caffinatin’ for about an hour now in the pre-dawn dark. Eastern sky now lit, colorless clouds silhouetted against soft pale orange and pink. Sunrise in another half-hour or so. The birds are now awake & much birdie politics is being discussed.

Have two doctor appointments today, rescheduled after I missed them last week for irk. One early (hence my hurry here now) and one midafternoon. Both specialist checkups, so no medical drama expected. Will also stop by the SS office to deliver my documents to be copied. And a bit of groc and perhaps even a lunch can be worked in somehow.

Will be on-call for irk Sat-Mon and we shall see.

Happy last-irk-day to those on a traditional M-F schedule!! We’ll talk later today.

I’m not much impressed with helicopter parents, but dang, this is too much! “Later, kid! Have fun! See ya!” Nope, wrong. You deserved the ice cream sammich!

Excuse me - are you new here???

It’s nuts, considering how many symptoms there are. Like coughing - I cough, and sniffle. It’s just one of those things - it’s not Covid. So I fib. They take my temp and I see the doc/dentist/whatever. Now, if I thought it was something worse, I’d take the test and/or wear a mask. I’m not going to spread any sickness if I can help it. On the other hand, there’s a horrific lack of common sense out there…

I didn’t have a chance to ask her about school, but she got off the bus just fine and I got a big hug. Then she got whiny because she wanted to ride her bike and her mom said no. At that point, I left… But I’m pretty sure the first-day bus incident won’t scar her for lifel

You and me both! Deep breath, conscious attempt to relax my arm, go to my happy place. I’m kinda wussy when it comes to pain. And yet I suffer… < pose of woe >

At the risk of sounding snarky, WHY?? What made you choose that career path?

Nice to know you didn’t secretly emigrate…

I woke stoopit early (a bit after 4) and since I’ve had Monkey Bread on the brain for a few days, I got up a little after 5 and made some - it’s in the oven right now, smelling YUM!!! So breakfast shall be YUM!!

We’ll be doing some work at the school today, and I’m hoping it’s the last time I’ll have to spend most of the day there. My house is a disaster due to neglect. I need to have a plan to get it back in order - starting with a thorough cleaning of the kitchen and fridge.

Sunday is a family gathering at my mom’s and I need to chunk up some cantaloupe and watermelon as my contribution. It’s supposed to be a pool party but I’m not taking my suit - it’s funny - when I was a kid, I couldn’t get enough swimming time. Now, if it ain’t a hot tub, I’m not much interested.

And this post took so long to write, I just now took the Monkey Bread out of the oven - it’s bee-yoo-tee-ful! And the house smells sooooooooo yum!

Happy Firday!!

That should get much easier as you go along and gain better flexion in the knee.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 17c/63f with no predicted change today, and cloudy. Weather app asks “I wonder who stole your fucking sunshine? Fucking wasn’t me.” And yes, there’s lots of cloud and not a scrap of sun but we do have a 17% chance of rain.

Mooom monkey bread sounds delicious, never tried it so now I might have to make some too.

nellie I’m glad you got seen and you’re doing ok, you had us all worried there. Even better news that you found your bag and an honest bus driver as well.

metalmouse the lad was lucky you were around and could help out too, ice cream being a just reward for a good deed.

You’re all busy reminding me that I should soon be getting a reminder to book my flu shot. The first ones I had were always October but last year I managed to get one in September instead. The pharmacy usually sends me a text so I can book early. I have no idea if we’ll be offered covid boosters this year as well, I hope so if we’re being threatened with another variant. Knowing my government’s abysmal performance in dealing with such things, clearly we have to protect ourselves as best we can while they make a total dog’s breakfast of it.

Looks like I’m not going to work at the school after all. FCD and I were talking about it and he said he can manage what he needs to do without my help. I was concerned about how filthy the house is getting. So he’s gone and I’ve started restoring some order to this place.

The dishwasher is running a load. I gathered all the household trash and recycling and it’s in my car awaiting transport to the convenience center, which doesn’t open for another 50 minutes. So I’m going to allow myself to read a bit, then take the trash, run to WalMart for a few things we need, then return and start cleaning. WOOHOO! :stuck_out_tongue:

BTW, the monkey bread was a bit of a disappointment. I missed the step where you’re supposed to boil the butter and brown sugar to make syrup, so instead of being gooey, it’s kinda crusted with the sugar/butter mixture. Tastes fine, but it’s not right. Oh well - next time…

Off to the recliner now!

Knock at the door:

SenBoy and SenGirl go together because this is the most exciting event in the SenFamily house for the last three day.

“Dad, there’s a police at the door”

“How many? And dogs? Are they holding any papers? Do they have large things do break down doors? Are there any people in hazmat suits?”

“Dad, just one, it looks like a bored cop.”

“OK, let’s take a chance”

(Doesn’t break down the meth lab, but removes the gas mask.)

“How can I help you, officer?”

“How well do you know your neighbor in the apartment here?” pointing to one side.

“Not at all. Never hear many sounds or anything.” SenWife says, “Recently, his mail seems to be piling up.”

Officer: "Apparently, he died . . .”

Me, nervously, “Anything suspicious?”

Officer: “No, it’s likely he just slipped in his bath. Just seeing if you had heard anything. Have a good day!”

Me, deeeeeep breath out. “Thanks officer!!

OK, all jokes aside, that was a little different. I don’t know many people in the building. Demographically, it’s mainly older people so this is likely not to be the first time this will happen. It is kind of sad that people aren’t closer but it’s the reality of life.

Living alone, one of my biggest fears is slipping and falling to my death, and being found by the smell.

Actually, I guess the fear is lying there broken & moaning in pain. Once I’m a stinky corpse half-chewed by some critter, I suppose I won’t care too much.

The first time in my life when I lived alone - twas college, and my then-roommate had moved out early, and I had the WHOLE place to myself which was quite glorious - I had hurt my ankle, and had an awkward moment in the shower trying to balance on one good leg and one bad.

I caught my balance, but had a vivid scenario in my head of falling, hitting my head, and lying unconscious with my face under the falling water as my lungs filled up …

Now I’m just wary of my basement stairs. I have painted warning arrows IN MULTIPLE COLORS so I don’t hit my dumb noggin, again, on the low-hanging pipes … but I do have an idiot cat who likes to “escort” me by running across the steps.

“Hey, does anyone have a phone?”

{ three hundred heads swivel in unison }

You do not want to know how long it took me to figure that one out.

Especially since, at the time, Monkey was on my lap and LICKING ME so that was doubly weird to read.

Also, WTF I washed off the pizza sauce, do I still haz a flavor?

Snerk.

Mine was fine.

There isn’t some equivalent tradition of bringing a casserole or brownies to your new neighbor?

(That’s dying out in the U.S. but it’s still a trope, at least, if not an actual IRL thing much anymore. Still … nothing?)

They used to do it in Japan. You would bring Soba (そば or 蕎麦, “buckwheat”) is a thin Japanese noodle made from buckwheat. because another kanji for “soba” 側 means “next to” but that tradition is also dying out here.

I fell in a shower in a London hotel room. I doubt anyone would have found me until it came time to check out, as room cleaning wasn’t a priority there. Luckily, I didn’t really hurt myself badly, just bruised ribs, and was able to get myself up after the requisite moaning and careful checking of various parts.

Morning all. Woke at 5am, looked at clock, and rolled back over until 7, so should be good to go for the day. Some shopping, swimming-n-sauna, and soccer are on the agenda, and the weather report is the same…heading to 96F and right now at 8:30am it’s 81F. I am so ready for the fall.

Sensei, sad news, but like you note, in a building with a lot of older people, it will happen.

Shoe, being 71 and living alone, I know exactly what you fear; have considered some type of alarm system for a couple of years but sheer laziness has kept me from doing it, but one of these days…

red, the kid stayed remarkably cool and calm for a 10-year old and did a lot better with the phone than I did.

nellie, just keep taking care of yourself now, y’hear.

Pilot, hope the Docs agreed that you are in great health.

Cat Glove, I’ll take some of that rain off of your hands; haven’t seen a drop here in over 10 days.

OK, apologies for any I missed, but need to forage for sustenance shortly. Take care all.
