(Old) The Heat Is On - A Heat Wave MMP

One would hope, but I don’t think my children are very bright.

They did do the requisite cleaning, which I was thankful for. Hot yoga was hot today, and I was a sweaty mess who was not fit to be seen. Spike did the fetching while I did the showering.

The In-laws arrived at about 3:00. They seem well. I am now recovering from dinner, which was penne ala vodka. Very yummy and filling.

Much rain and drizzle today, but it didn’t add up to a whole lot of water. My plants are all watered but the creek is still low.

One of Mom’s grandkids got arrested for weed in Idaho. That’s felony time, Mom’s not going to be able to fix this with a check.

I don’t understand why kids nowadays are so dumb about weed. Back when I was her age, I KNEW that the cops weren’t my friends and I KNEW to be discrete. I’ve never even been looked at twice by law enforcement and I’ve been indulging in the devil’s lettuce since I was 16. Her husband got deported to Mexico over weed, you would think she might get a clue about being discrete.

The news about CA was depressing tonight. Gas is over 8 bucks a dollar and the chemical spill in Orange county videos were in familiar neighborhoods. Not to mention the drought.

Fire news in Georgia wasn’t much better and TC friend in Arizona has been sending me pictures of the slurry bombers flying overhead.

I can watch the highway from my room and I have noticed the effects of that stoopid war and the price of gas. Last year this time, the highway was covered with toy haulers and RV’s. Now its just sparse traffic. I knew I was going to miss Biden, I didn’t know how much.

Bright Tree, thank you so much for the fuchsia suggestions last year. I have three on a pole along with a feeder and the hummers mostly just use the feeder for a perch.

I waste so much time just looking out the glass doors and admiring the plants, birds, forest and even our lawn. Then I get off my butt and carry my needlepoint stand to the bedroom and sit there and watch the birds and grass and trees in a different location. I love being a RDOS, I don’t have to worry about wasting my time just enjoying the day.

And now Mom is calling again. I don’t know anything about getting arrested or about Idaho laws, I can’t help her tonight and I really don’t care that much about the grandkid. She’s one that doesn’t get xmas checks and the way she did that was by not contacting me and leaving me on read for a year. Most of Mom’s grandkids stopped replying to my messages so I stopped sending them money and then they get mad and tell Mom to make me start sending money again.

This is going to sound horrible, but it will be a relief when Mom’s gone and I can wash my hands of all that drama forever.

Sorry. That sounds exasperating.

Exasperating is the perfect word.

I shouldn’t have called her a kid, their daughter is in her late twenties. (her daughter stopped getting birthday checks when she was 17. I sent them until the kids are 16 and then let them cut themselves off.)

Up from naptime. I’m having a Sidecar, salmon, brown and wild rice with Morels, and cheesy spinach. Watching F1 practice, one guy nailed a groundhog, and wrecked his car.

It would be funny if you had literally run into each other at a club and both walked away saying “What a @%@%!”

Yep.

Doesn’t sound horrible; sounds perfectly understandable. You mere mortal, you.

Hey, power stayed on today e.g. nobody drove into a pole. But man, the events of yesterday was the main gossip this evening.

Got sent to drive past about a dozen dispensaries to our sister store for a box of friggin’ French fries (of all the things to run low on). Walked in, they were like ??? and I said “I’m the French Fry Fairy! … except, I’m not bringing, I’m taking away!”

Good thing their manager knew I was on my way, and why. That was one pack of confused people staring at me.

… they were less amused than me. C’mon, it was funny … right?

Late night final. Did some gym work and cheese dogs made for some calorie replacement, the balance of the evening has been internettin’ and will be heading off to bed soon. Tomorrow is looking like laundry day, so will be around the house for most of it.

Shoe, a nice confidence on doggie names. And I wonder if Ms. Bit-itchy had a little ‘persuasion’ from Mom to apologize.

Nut, you can always annoy a neighbor but plants can’t wait…

Herald, pretty much the schedule I remember too.

red, google maps have helped when I got lost, but also have put me into situations that I need it…because it got me lost (which I can do on my own without any help).

FCM, kinda feel for BIL, he’s pretty much cut himself off from people who would care about him, I’m glad you’re able to help out a little (cat pee or no).

swampy, I’ve never had breakfast at the GC (they only have it Sat/Sun). Is it worth the trip or should I just settle for my meatloaf or pot roast dinners?

JtC, I think it’s not dumb as much as they don’t think of it as doing anything illegal, given the looser laws and open use in many states. Still, if she;s old enough to be married, she’s old enough to be discreet…

And somehow I know what your response is…

shoe, some folks just don’t have a sense of humor…

And it’s closing in on 11pm, so off to bed I go. See y’all tomorrow.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. it’s my Firday. it’s also 58 degrees Ferret Height(14.444 Centipedes)

I found it amusing.

Thank you Unca Swampy.

Yesterday I took my test.

And I passed! I is certified.

I knew I was certifiable, and now I have the proof.

So happy, so relieved. Now I go back to normal chaos.

Happy Saturday!

Yeah!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 85 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse this afternoon. Precious will have a meltdown! Actually I think it will be on and off stuff like JtC has been experiencin’ the past few days. No where we want or need to be, so we shall remain inside and dry. Another system did come through last night with some big lightnin’. It put me to sleep. Ima grill some brats (the sausage kind cause the kid kind gives us heartburn), make some coleslaw and do some oven fries for today’s main need to feed which will be when we decide. Most likely we will do a suppunch.

JtC I can understand how you feel. You’ll feel bad that your mom is gone, but relieved that you don’t have to deal with the family drama anymore. Unfortunately we don’t get to pick our blood relatives, but we don’t have to put up with 'em either.

shoe some folk just don’t appreciate sophisticated wit.

MetalMouse IMO breakfast at GC ain’t all that. I mean, it’s good, but places like Eggs Up do it a lot better. Plus we also have Pearly’s, a great local meat and three place that serves an outstandin’ breakfast and lunch.

Dicey conga rats on bein’ certified! See what happens when you study! I am sure you are relieved to get that behind you.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the soggy day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy/Memorial Day Weekend Y’all!

And a happy Sattidy and holiday weekend to you!

I have two writing events on Zoom today (a critique group and a Famous Author-led workshop), then I’ll see how far I can get in my correspondence backlog, reply to a publisher who wants a edit, do some medical/financial stuff, get groceries, and go for a walk. That kind of stuff. Party on!

Thank you all, my friends, for the birthday wishes.

Afernoon, mumpers! It’s currently 20c/69f with a predicted high of 23c/72f and cloudy. Weather app says “Are you fucking tired of talking about the weather? Let’s talk about my fucking extreme anxiety instead.” OK, that would be a useful conversation to have.

I hope it goes well despite the trauma of getting there and losing your cup of coffee before you’d even left the house. You definitely deserve chillage after that.

No, it doesn’t sound horrible, it sounds like you have had to spend far too much time and effort dealing with people who don’t appreciate you and don’t do anything to help themselves. That kind of person is exhausting and exasperating, and you are at a point in your life where you do not need it.

Congratulations on being properly certified, or certifiable

Friday ended up being fun, I finished irkage on time and went down to the kitchen to make spagbol for dinner so we could eat early. We got ourselves tarted up, and went into town to see a couple of bands at the Giffard. It was boiling upstairs so in between bands, we went outside for some cooler air. 'im indoors and I parted ways at the taxi rank, I needed to get home and he wanted a kebab so he walked home via Turkish Delight, and I got driven home by a very entertaining Afghan immigrant.

I was up reasonably early this morning, tended to the needs of cats and had a couple of cups of tea before I went to the gym for my PT session. it was lovely and sunny so we did half the session outside, the rest had to be inside as we couldn’t haul the machinery out! I am back home with restorative tea, and I’ll get showered when I’ve finished writing this.

Lunch will be whatever’s in the fridge, and then we will head into town to do our errands. I have a couple of things on my list, one of which is to take a couple of antique pocket watches to one of the jewellers, I spoke to him a while ago about them and said I’d take them in for him to look at. They belonged to my paternal grandmother and have arrived in my hands but I have no idea what to do with them. I don’t want them, but they’re in the house and I need to know if they should be added to our contents insurance if they have any value. I could sell them, but I have no idea who I’d sell them to, so I need a bit of professional advice.

Other than that, I have no other plans although we have kind of decided tonight will be the sofa and a couple of films.

55F at 0700 and temps will continue to rise over the coming days. I took the cover off the tomato plant.

The Ms is making noises about going over to the farmers’ market to see if they have any peonies. I don’t mind going there, as it isn’t far, but the parking is a freaking nightmare. I wish their produce was of better quality, also.

She’s also wanting to go to see Little Women at the Guthrie tomorrow, although if recent events are any indication she’s just as likely to cancel. I’m not a big fan of plays, but if it gets her out of the building. . .

Morning all. Second load of laundry in the washer as the first dries while rain drips outside. At a minimum I have three more loads to wash, so that should take care of my morning. Rain will go away this afternoon and temperatures will reach 80F according to the Weather Wizards, but we’ll see.

Dicey, Many congratulations on passing your certification.

swampy, thanks for the GC info; I have a couple local breakfast/brunch places (Eggs Up and Sunny Street Cafe) that I’ll take my breakfast munchies too.

lily, Happy Eventing (and the other stuff, too).

boo fae, hope the watches have some value, mine are bog-standard Timex from Wal-Mart, but do have some gift watches from my time working overseas projects, have no idea if they have any value or not.

cookie, at least Wife-unit is trying to get out of the house, which from previous comments is a good thing, so a bit of a parking hassle may be worth it. Hope she does make the play, it’ll do her good.

And need to sort out washer loads 4 and 5, number 3 is ready to go. Take care all.

Congrats!!

I know what you mean, tho my situation had much less drama. Late MIL had a few minor quirks that could be irritating and tried my patience at times. I would never say anything to FCD about it, but honestly, a weight was lifted when she finally died. That does sound cold…

Rain continued on and off all night and it’s coming down pretty good right now. Forecast is for more of the same all the way till next Firday, tho a lesser chance as the week progresses. Definitely soggy tomorrow and Moanday. So much for yard work.

We’ll be heading to the boat (I think) to do a couple of things on board. Then we’ll bring the main cabin deck panels home. The insulation strips around the bottom (to minimize engine noise and vibration) need to be replaced, plus we want to see if the cleaner and scratch cover will do a good enough job of refreshing the wood. So maybe when the rain lets up we’ll head out.

FedEx is still saying the other bike will be delivered today, but it won’t. At midnight, it was in PA near Pittsburgh - maybe 4 hours from here - but from there it usually goes to Hagerstown before ending up in Upper Marlboro to be parceled out to the rest of Southern Merrylande. Ain’t no way that’ll all happen today. And with Sunday and a Holiday coming next, I truly don’t expect it to show up before Tuesday. We shall see.

Thus begins the weekend. Oh, did I mention we need to go to the Mart of Wal for a few things. That’ll be an adventure…

Happy Saturday anyway!

It’s a wet morning in Elkhart, changing later to permacloud.

A dear old relative is sick with a disease that will eventually kill him. A few days ago, we got word that he had “taken a turn for the worse,” and our local nephew left to go see him. In the meantime, we are in a grammatical limbo state. This “Schrodinger’s cousin” is and/or was warm, generous, and a joy to be around.

Great thunderous applause for Dicey’s passing the test. Woo hoo, and a suitable volley of chrysanthemum shells!

Congrats to you, and @swampbear that was truly a fine talkin’ to.

Hold my beer.

Five seconds after birth?

Congrats!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I need to call Sis to see if we’re on for today (she doesn’t like driving in the rain and it’s supposed to rain on and off all day). Other than that. RDOS.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!
