(Old) The Heat Is On - A Heat Wave MMP

Good morning.

It’s 51F and cloudy outside. By afternoon, we’ll have partial clearing with a daytime high near 70F.

Thank you all for the birthday greetings. Also, happy belated day to Kalaysdad.

Lucky, sorry about the tire puncture. That is frustrating.

Nellie, STBX is an idiot. But you already know that. I can’t even imagine those chaotic living conditions.

Zeus has done fairly well. However, upon arrival, he peed in my house…twice. Still, he hasn’t done it since and hasn’t managed to tear anything up. He got a little barky in the yard, and we had to bring him in, but otherwise, he’s been doing fine. He’s a sweet dog, but he’s still trying to find his footing here. My husband doesn’t understand why my son is struggling so much, but we haven’t had to deal with him feeling more comfortable. We certainly wouldn’t dream of leaving him alone in our house.

He definitely does not like the back neighbor’s riding mower. That guy drives over every obstacle, so there are a lot of thunks and clanks. Zeus barked unless we brought him in. He also did not much appreciate the crappy neighbors being in their yard with a deep, throbbing bass permeating the neighborhood.

We’ve got him one more night, and then my son will be here sometime tomorrow, probably late afternoon, to pick him up.

Not much on today’s agenda; maybe some planting, maybe some mowing. Maybe just kicking back. Hard to say.

You all take care of yourselves.

i’m glad to hear zeus is doing well. perhaps having in house dog friends helps?

scareyfaerie, permanent records are scarier now. the internet never forgets…

this should be our last over 90f day this week. then we are onto wet time. rain for the next 3-5 days.

We don’t use heating oil but some of our neighbors do. Most of them have already locked in their contract for this year and now they are hearing unpleasant rumors about their contracts not being fulfilled due to rising prices and shortages. Many disgruntled words have already been spoken and more will come I’m sure.

Cooler today. Currently its 73 with a high of 83 and lots of rain.

My poor lil lemon tree is NOT happy. Its a house plant and isn’t sure about being out in the cold nights. I put some stinky fish emulsion in the dirt last night, if it doesn’t start raining in a couple of hours, I’ll go out and put some more water on it.

I actually hehehehehed at the end just in case Boo fae is too nice!

I’ll smack hubs upside the head in their honor! Some of the clover is popping its heads back up, maybe I’ll sneak out and steal the spark plugs out of the mower.

Those are the best days IMHO. I’m glad Zeus seems to be settling down somewhat. Poor confused dawg.

Happily, I know just what to do in that sort of situation. If its head is triangle shaped, I stay home for the next week. If it’s oval shaped, I put gloves on and go out and move snik to a better place.

I don’t think I need to worry about it here, though. Jolene is a fierce house guarding kittah, nothing hangs around after she’s done screaming at it.

Well, it appears as though FedEx lost our order and I’m going to have to put on goin’ out clothes and buy some birdseed. The last bag I bought at the local feed store (I had to drive past the Tractor Supply store to get there) had barley which the birds didn’t seem to like. The deer did, though and I don’t want to encourage the deer to cross the road so I guess I’ll go somewhere else today.

Exploring new places is good exercise for my brain

Have great days everyone!

(ARGH!!! The across the street neighbor is mowing now. Stop cutting down all the little flowers, the pollinators are already stressed as it is!)

Good morning. It was supposed to be raining this morning, but it didn’t, so we walked. I went to turn on the exercise app on my Fitbit and discovered I hadn’t turned it off from last night’s yoga. Apparently, I’d been practicing for eleven hours straight.

I have my one month follow up on the cataract surgery. I need to ask about a zero diopter multi-focal contact lens. This reader shit is getting old. Welp - I fucked up. I had my 8:25 appointment in my calendar for 2:30. Now my appointment is tomorrow at 11.

Summer is definitely here. The dehumidifier is running nearly non-stop.

Not sure why those photos didn’t load.

I used to joke that I didn’t graduate college, so much as the faculty signed a petition to give me a degree to get rid of me.

If nelliedaugher weren’t caught up in it, it’d be amusing. He seems to be trying to make his problems into nelliedaughter’s problems. I hope she’s having none of that. My ex-wife kept trying to get me to pay her tuition to the graduate school she started after we’d separated. Yeah… no.

Taters You’re doing Dog’s work, looking after Zeus for your son. He just sounds like a lot of dog for one person. I hope they can work it out. They both deserve a good companion.

I heard it in David Lee Roth’s voice.

When I left Indiana, the tags were those butt ugly orange and purple ones (mid nineties). I was so glad to change to something more aesthetically pleasing.

Up ,caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I need to make a grocery run today and take out the trash. I hope that the rain lets up while I errand.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Got my meds and dosed myself. Maybe it’s the placebo effect, but I feel like my headache is gone. OK, not placebo but something that convinced my brain I took an instant-acting dose. Anyway, WHEW!

And I’ve killed enough of the morning that it’s time for my lunch. Then we’ll see…

I was passed around like a bong at a Dead show today. Loading(twice), slides(100 and 300), plus the Sort Table. Next contract I’m holding out for in building mileage. TPTB forgot to order bottled water, so everybody who didn’t bring a filled jug was left to the sketchy water fountains, and the half of the ice machines that work. The painters power washed the building at 5p.m. yesterday, and have the next building 85% done right now. I had dragged the 2 chairs off my porch, and into the nature area. The painters put a tarp over them, which is hysterical, because they are cracked and faded 15 year old Adirondack chair that belonged to a previous roommate. Paint splatter would only help..

Noting with “ultra” in the name ever turns out good. Except maybe Project ULTRA(and even they, it depends on the Allied or Axis viewpoint).

Remind me to never axe you a question.

Male honey bees die immediately after copulation, so their entire life can be summed up as “Honey, Nut, Cheerio!” :honeybee:

I’m sure mine from 5th Grad CCD clas goes something like " We can only hope he chooses apostasy instead of Confirmation when the time comes…"

Morning, all, welcome newbies and returnies. We have a string of partly cloudy days rising to above 60 ferrets (15 anna half centipedes) this week, which is a bummer because we need more rain. Can’t tell if I have allergies, a minor cold, or both. I only need to go out twice today–once to retrieve my lovely wife, who’s returning from 11 days away (shoulda been 10, but her flight left an hour late yesterday and she couldn’t make her connection); once to a writing thing. I’ll spend some time tidying but still not lifting anything over my limit–the paperwork says 15#, the body says 10#.

The bad news is that my post-op appointment is scheduled for 7 weeks out, not 6, so an extra non-bath week.   :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: :pouting_cat:

53F at 1130. I covered the termater plant last night, as it dropped to 40. Ima leave it covered through tonight, then let it breath as the temps climb.

Puzzles puzzed and exercise done. Breakfast was savory oatmeal and bacon, with half an almond croissant for a treat. Stuffed tomatoes for dinner.

Been having sporadic internet outages over the past week, so I went to pitch a bitch at the building manager. Comcast is pretty good about responding. I also buttonholed him about what is becoming a big eyesore across the street from our building. The city (or state) came through there three years ago cleared out the weeds and hacked down the undergrowth and bagged the garbage that had accumulated there. It’s right along the exit ramp off of I-94. Three years later, it a rat’s paradise and the trash and overgrowth has become an eyesore again. I look out the kitchen window and I see hubcaps and other assorted crap. I don’t expect a response any time soon.

The manager also let me know that he’s making an offer to a new maintenance guy. That would be good news except that he also said that it was someone who was here before. Now, there were two interim maintenance men in the last three years who were absolute shit. I hope it’s not one of them coming back for a return shot at the title, but I fear the worst.

Afternoon all. Couple of minor shopping jobs have cropped up, so having finished my soup-n-sammich lunch I’ll be off in a bit. Rain is expected between 2-4pm so I’ll try to arrange to be in the gym at that time.

Taters, Zeus sounds like a handful, if he’s going to live in neighborhood housing there will be other people and noises. Hope he can adjust.

JtC, good luck on the birdseed hunt.

Mollie, many places I’m a regular at give me a card with my appointment date on it, which I tape up in a place where I will always see it every day…so I don’t miss more that 2-3 appointments a year…

My plate tags change color every year, they are yellow this year, on a plate with black letters on a off-white/yellowish background and a Travel Alabama ad at the bottom, liek this: https://comebacktown.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Alabama-License-Plate.jpg

FCM, glad the Doc/pharmacy came through for you so quickly.

doggio, They ought to give you the job title of JOAT (Jack Of All Trades).

That made me laugh out loud. Thanks.

Lily, welcome home to lovely wife, and I guess you can learn to like (or at least tolerate) showers for a while longer…

Cookie, hope the mess is cleaned up and the new maintenance man is not who you fear it is.

And time to dress appropriately and head out into the world.

Yesterday I had the a/c on. This morning it was 69 in the house when I arose. I turned the heat on. Stoopid weather.

" :musical_note: I always feel like somebody’s watching me. . ."

90 yesterday. 50 today.
I am wearing a contact in my left dominant eye so I can read. I am afraid if I get the same cataract replacement as the right one has I must wear readers or never read again. Its like the scene in Twilight Zone where the man breaks his glasses.
Almost regret the surgery.
I have been going out and about. I can see far in the right eye and close in the left. We’ll see how my brain adapts to this.

I have the exact same issue. I’m going to speak with my Opthomologist tomorrow about getting a zero diopter multi-focal for my left eye. I had no issue during the two week intersurgical period wearing my former prescription in my left eye and nothing in my right eye.

I’ll report back after that appointment.

Lovely, thank you!

She is always so cute

So, its not raining and hasn’t started yet. It is 87F and cloudy. So far, we have gotten half the usual amount of rain for the year. One of the reasons we left AZ was the constant drought, its just not right that it followed us.

Cutie!

Oh - the error occurred entirely with me. I wrote “Mollie to eye doctor - 8:25,” then gave it a 2:30 time slot. :woman_facepalming:

It’s finally raining.

The storm moved in with noise and lights but now it is just a nice steady rain.

I have my pre-op appointment with my doctor tomorrow. I know that he’s just going to schedule blood work and maybe an EKG, I wish I didn’t have to go in and see him. The office is next to a Tudors, maybe I’ll go there afterwards for some biskits and gravy.

Looks like the promised rain is passing to the north, dammit. At least thru midnight. Dammit.

I did water the hill garden, so it’s looking like that was a good move. We’ll see how it goes.

You didn’t miss much, we got less than a tenth of an inch.
