[OLD] There's a Spring in Your Step - A Seasonal MMP

Maybe both…and at least after an hour I can give them back to their parents.

Morning all. Not much on the planning list today, soccer will be from 5-7pm and I’ll try to get to the gym in the early afternoon, so will be exercised. It’s 49F heading for 60 today, and tomorrow should be near 70F, but a 50/50 chance of rain. Just remembered, need to pick up my dry cleaning, so I do have a reason to be out today.

Taters, know what you mean on counseling and performance reviews, I used to look at my job description and try to write that I did those things (along with some actual data here and there), and that somehow satisfied my bosses. Good luck.

Hard to say lucky, but yeah, when I finally go sometime in the future, I hope is is quick and hopefully relatively painless. Enjoy Pittsburgh.

OK, dishes are washing and not much else on the calendar, so all y’all take care.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 13c/55f with no predicted change today, and isolated showers. I hope they stay very isolated because all our bus drivers are on strike so I have to walk the mile and a bit from the train station to home later. Weather app sympathises, and says “What a fucking weak rain shower”.

godbod hope you are feeling better today and less like the snotty-nosed one in the group.

rocker our Shadow definitely understands words like chicken skin, bacon, fish and sausages! When he was younger and spent his time outside, he could hear a tin of tuna being opened from three streets away. Now he’s much older, and rarely goes out, but the sound of a tin opener in use will rouse him from any part of the house.

Taters I’m glad you managed to avoid the impaired driver, and I hope said driver slept it off before McD’s opened up. I get the frustration too, I’ve lost count of the times I’ve wanted to tell our academic staff to act their age rather than their shoe size.

Today has been a frustrating five-meeting day here, and I still have to work through my 10-point plan for the week! Luckily some of the things are easy and reasonably quick, but there are some others that are longer and will be deeply irritating. However, I still have to concoct a process document and I decided I will just make it up and leave it behind me, so whoever takes this job over for a few months can puzzle it out for themselves. I’ll give them a starting point and a few clues, because I’m not really a monster!

Ms. Dog is here and sniffing around like I hid her Person in a closet or under the bed. I put my heavy and defunct electric skillet on top of the trash so she can’t I’m still in my pj’s because they’re loose and therefore itch me less. I’ll have to take her for a potty stroll when it gets light enough. [glares at DST]

I can’t understand how I can still be itching when I’m throwing 60 mgs. of prednisone at the itch, plus all those antihistamines. My face is all round from it. I got almost 5 hours of sleep last night, though, despite walking less than 2 miles.

I called Cuisinart, and they’re going to replace the electric skillet! It’s out of stock, though, so it’ll be awhile. I had to cut tit he cord and the send a photo of it to prove I’m not going to re-sell it as an IED.

Thank you both so much for not throwing me in a rubber room. You’ll never know how grateful I am to be here with you.

My sister, who had cats for over 40 years, always told me this when I’d insist her cats were smart. “They have brains the size of walnuts!” Thanks for the happy memory!

Taters, that van sounds dangerous. Glad he left the road for an Egg McNothin’.

Just like teaching high school! I mean, I usually gave them to their geometry teacher, but same diff. Did you ever think about going into teaching? You do so well with kids and really do seem very patient.

Dang. More later. SOMEbody is doing the Potty Dance.

The geese migrated to the employee lot. I was helping in Orange 32 again. They fixed the gas leak in it in the most UPS way possible, by just disconnecting the heater. Brrr. And Anger Management Supervisor is back, and more mellow. Maybe they found him some good weed or something.

  • Streamlined feline workflow to task
  • Reduced entropy in Augean Stables
  • created advanced circular file system

Could you delegate that to your Sri Lanken spiders?

Morning all! Here in Nashville, it’s 47F/8C. I really should have worn my winter jacket when I left the house this morning. My denim jacket was not up to the task. But now I’m back home and not planning on going back out until I have to pick up BtY from school.

I had to take CtE for their 17 year check up today. I’m glad to know that I’m not the only person who can’t believe that this kid is 17 now. We’ve had the same pediatrician since they were born, so a lot of the people in the office watched them grow up. One of the intake nurses that’s been there forever asked if she could still call him CtEy instead of the more mature CtE. She, of course, was grandfathered in. CtE is as healthy as they can be for someone overweight with depression issues. But we’re on top of all of it, so the doctor is happy.

My day today should be cleaning and writing and stuff like that. Instead, I think it will be resting. I’ve been the primary everything for the last week or so and haven’t been getting as much sleep as I should. So my bed is comfy, warm and full of me.

You’re so right about the wind; it can turn a delightful day/walk into the most miserable. I have 2 balaclavas that I use when I am out in the wind. Went for a walk with a former co-worker this morning and while it was a bit chilly 36*, there wasn’t any wind so it was very nice. Of course, I was wearing appropriate clothing, long underwear, merino wool top and jacket, a turtleneck and a Spartan cap. While we enjoyed the winters (ha) in San Antonio, the summers could be brutal. We’re outdoorsy people, it was too hot to swim in the apartment complex pool, we had to wait until the evening to play tennis and we likely would have gotten heat exhaustion from hiking.

Yay for overlyboy! A rite of passage!
I see overlygirl and I are kindred spirits in re hot showers! Ha!

You really do have a way with words!

Have filtered 3 gal of water. Need to go Krogering to purchase items that are on sale that ends today. Catch you later.

Interesting. I work with two other people (both of my managers, in fact) who also used to live in Texas. You’re now the 4th person - counting myself - who moved from Texas to Michigan.

It’s hilarious how many local people look at me in amazement. “Why did you move here?!?” especially in the dead of winter.

I don’t go into the main reason, which is that the metroplex was so full of memories of my late Other Shoe that nearly anywhere I drove, I’d start crying.

I may or may not explain that my job contract had ended, my lease was up, and the relationship I was in was circling the drain. (“My job, lease, and relationship were all ending.”)

But I tell them I wanted to move somewhere that had FOUR seasons (“… not just ‘hot’ and ‘hotter’ yanno?”) and where they’d legalized it, and their face usually brightens right up. “Oh, then you’re in the right place!”

Yes, darling, I know.

When I lived in Iowa, back in the '70s, my denim jacket was my winter jacket. And I can definitely understand why people would want to move from Texas to Michigan.

I like mustard on my hot dogs, but when I’m fixing them myself I usually just look at the mustard bottle, decide that requires too much effort, and settle for just a slice of cheese.

Lady SCAdian gave the kittens some Churu Bites the other day. They didn’t seem to know what to do with them – licked them, picked them up and then dropped them a time or few, before finally biting them and eating them. Lady SCAdian thought perhaps the cats were confused because the treats are chewy, not crunchy. (They’re also a bit bigger than the Temptations they normally get.)

When I was younger, my denim jacket was all I needed. Now that I’m getting old, temperature extremes affect me far more than it used to. I could never do Florida again, and as much as I loved our lives in Philly, I’m not sure if I could do Philly again. Nashville, temperature wise, is usually a good median. There are other things that really bother me about being a transplanted Tennessean, but that’s not a MPSIMS topic.

Before I retired a few years ago I worked at Sears, here in Connecticut. I’m sure there are quite a few people who worked there who would be surprised to hear I even own a jacket – usually I only wore one if it was raining or if the temp dropped below 25.

I was like that for awhile. My 14 year old is like that now. He would love it if I didn’t make him wear any clothes at any time, but societal norms require him to.

Howdy Y’all! Errands got did. Go Me! Beyond that ‘tis been the usual sloth. Sup is in the makin’ and we shall go day drink on the back porch as it is a glorious 65 Amurrkin and N.O.S. outside. Oh, and we accomplished nappage lest y’all think we’ve gotten slack.

Wandering downtown on a 50-ish sunny afternoon. Just ate a kielbasa sandwich and had an Iron City at Primanti’s in the Strip District. The staff and patrons here are … colorful. Amazing accents. But friendly. Just don’t insult Dah’ Steelahs.

Probably doing early dinner at the Grand Concourse. For something completely different.

Gotta get up tomorrow at 3:30am to get ready for work. So it’ll be an early night.

I think I’ve been reading too much about weed habits. Somehow I have the picture of a cat having a different kind of bowl - guess the cat would be mellow.

smacks forehead I love shells and cheese. Now why do I always make mac and cheese? Need to buy small pasta shells. Probably would be really good for the one-pot recipe, where I just throw in whatever cheese is in the fridge/freezer. There’s one meal for the weekend.

Purty!

Yipee!!!

I was rather new when you were trying to figure out where to move to, and I really wondered about the necessity of looking for locations who had already gone through legalization.

I have learned a lot from what you have posted, and now I understand much better. Thank you.

Not sure my husband wants 4 seasons though, so Michigan might not end up on our short list when we move back to the U.S. I can guarantee Texas will not be on our list of favorites, thought.

I have a friend who lives near Nashville and she’s always sharing pictures of her farm. Gorgeous.

Work was full of meetings, and then I had a bit of a to-do list when I got home. Now that’s all done (bought groceries, paid bills, fertilized the grass, washed some laundry, made lemon poppy seed cake), it’s about time to go to bed. Blergh.

At least I managed to catch up and posted 2 days in a row!

And the weather’s still weird - can’t believe we’re warmer than Alabama and Georgia.

Happy Toosday!

Wranglin’ the kids at their house per Daughter’s request. I folded a basket of diapers because I’m nice, dammit. Here’s hoping I won’t be here too late.

Nice! Welcome to the 'burgh. What accent??

Arg! I’ve got a friend who has been problems with his car for the last couple of months. First, the belt shredded and he was stuck on the side of the road until a tow truck showed up. Then his car wouldn’t start the other morning. Got a jump, though, and was ok for a day or two. This morning, it didn’t start either. Looked like it was a loose connection, so he thought that was fixed. He was just leaving and it died on him again. Normally, I’d be on my way up there to either jump him or pick him up to get a new battery. BUT… He’s 30-45 minutes away and I have to pick up BtY from school in an hour. I’m hoping that someone else will be able to get to him before I can get up there, but if not, I’ll be taking a trip to help him out tonight. This weekend, he’s going to look into getting a new vehicle. I wish he could afford it before this weekend, because he doesn’t need this frustration.

Update: He had a friend with a jump box closer and he’s on his way to get one but I’m still incredibly frustrated for him and on standby if anything comes up.

There’s a lot of gorgeous country out here. In town, not so much. I live in one of the suburbs and my dad lives outside of the city on 7 acres. I get to have both the convenience of living in the city and the calmness of getting out of it.

Came down to Burien today, and waited for my 08:30 phone meeting. 08:30 came and went. I eventually sent the guy an email, and his previous EM was 11:30 Pacific Time. Since he’s in New York and had used Eastern Time in his previous emails, I just assumed the meeting was to be at 11:30 Eastern Time, or 08:30 real time. Anyway, we had the meeting and I got his questions answered.

Of course, that shifted my lunch break by an hour. I went to TJ’s as usual, and bought a bag of frozen chicken tenderloins, a bag of frozen brussels sprouts, a bag of frozen broccoli florets – and Mrs. L.A. doesn’t like either of the veg, but she doesn’t have to eat them – a half-kilo of dark chocolate for her, some sugar-free chocolate for me, and for today’s lunch, my Cobb salad and some salami and provolone.

Plus two bags of pizza dough. I don’t know when we’ll have pizza again, but I wanted the dough on-hand. It’s very good, and can’t be passed up at $1.49 per bag. I thought about buying sauce, but I just got a couple of cans of tomato paste to make sauce with. It turned out better than a premade sauce last time.

How’s that for some Mundane Pointless Shite I Must Share?

Hey, Johnny, when you’re in Burien do you ever go to Hans Sausage and Delicatessen? When we’d fly in to Seatac, we went there a couple of times and got some sausages and other goodies to take to our vacation home. Funny old place, full of German goodies and knick-knacks. It looks like it has been there for years and years.
