(Old) Things ya gotta 'splain in the MMP

Happy Thursday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Sis should be by in a bit to go gallivanting about.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Question for VanGo and anyone else who builds/has built stuff using screws. Is there any situation where a straight slot screw is preferable to a phillips?

I vote no, but I don’t so much build as disassemble, and straight slot screws can be a pain in the patoot to remove, especially when corroded.

It depends on the type of container. I have and do replant some baskets. That’s what I did with the two baskets hanging from my bird feeder stand. I figured I’d put the baskets there since I can no longer feed the birds. Lo and behold, some birds made a nest in one of those baskets!

Those are the only baskets I hang, though. The rest I put on varying height plant stands. I want to enjoy the baskets, but I don’t really like having to water baskets that hang up high because the water tends to run down my arms. Plus, during plant maintenance, you have to remove them and hang them back up.

Chilly upon arising this morning. Scattered clouds and 41F at present (1000).

The niece cancelled out on her visit today, so we’ve got nuthin’ going on. I got a takeout order from the Indian restaurant yesterday and just noticed that they didn’t include my order of rogan josh. I paid for it and am tempted to go back and tell them about it.

Sadie has gone back to napping in the cat bed we bought when we adopted her. She hasn’t used it in many months, but is now spending a lot of time in it. Good thing I didn’t give it away.

That’s waterproof mascara is for.

Thank you for the reminder to take a multivitamin.

That’s the truth right there.

Working another “split shift” tonight, except imma open & leave at 8 (the opposite of last night, when I came in at 8 to close). Basically, one of the crew & I are playing “Tag, you’re IT!” with our shifts - he got to leave yesterday as soon as I arrived (and boy did he make himself scarce like a ninja!) and today, I’ll leave once he shows up.

Meanwhile, I’m lazying around while Monkey lets himself in’n’out’n’in’n’out to work off some zoomies.

Y’all enjoy your day!

I am another member of Team Mollie!

She is. I am the luckiest person to have found her.

:smiling_face_with_tear:

Yebbut it’s a pain to wash off.

The Mez was slammed today. And TPTB cut like 30+ routes, so the 300 Sort Table was slammed all day. So they pulled me out of the slammed Mez for 20min to work on the sort table, which put me even farther behind, plus they turned the belts off before we were done, so we had to heave a bunch of stuff 30 feet onto the 300 Sort table. Also there were 3 boxes of Target stuff, that ended going back. Because instead of an address, they put the middle part of a URL. < head desk > I did my Senior Day shopping, got 4 cases of Yuengling on sale for Cinco De Mayo, because nothing celebrates the defeat of a French army by Mexican peasants more that drinking Pennsylvania beer. Spot is being a chaos god today and heaving things off of other things.

I’ll need to go buy some fleece at the weekend.

Do they make tomato jackets?

Whisky and tea look similar. Just saying.

Feel free to use anything of mine you lie, worst case the therapist will ask “you voluntarily associate with this dogbutler lunatic?”

So you’re taking a vacation to recover from your vacation.

Do they eat it, or do they do like Gordie did, and just swallow it, python style?

Spot tends to cycle through his sleeping places, so as to dodge the assassins.

Beats having the mascara run, and making you look like a Temu Kiss member.

Just don’t overdo it – you don’t want to have to take a vacation from your vacation to recover from your vacation!

Are jacket potatoes close enough?

Mollie, feel free to count a weird PhD student in Scotland to your international squad!

Oh, and the stoopid forecast now has only a single centipede expected here Tuesday night… I may need to crochet the tomato plant a little cover.

There go my weekend plans for planting the rest of the tender plants out! They may be OK in there, but… I don’t want to risk it.

More invigilating this afternoon, which was OK. I did have a good gossip with the other invigilator before the student arrived, which is often a nice perk. I don’t get many chances to meet other PhD students outside the department I’m with (I’m not actually a student at the local university I’m invigilating for, it’s complicated..) but they’re mostly pretty interesting.

team mollie!!

are there shirts? or pins/badges?

Ziva is either under the bed or on her “bed” (a folded up blanket in a pillow case.) She does venture out of the bedroom at night after Otis is crated, but I don’t know where she goes or how long she’s out and about, or out and sleeping.

Taking a break. I’ve done as much as I can on the dinghy without FCD’s aid. So I decided to start disassembling the old clothesline deck (the one where the deck boards and supports are rotting away.) There were plastic covered steel lines along the rails, strung between eye bolts. All of that has now been removed. There are/were also 2 benches on opposite sides of the deck. One is removed, but it did a job on my back, so I’ll snarf down some tylenol and give it a chance to work before I remove the other bench. At least I can do most of the second one standing up. The first one required too much time either bent over or on my knees in the dirt. I’m a delicate flower, dammit!!!

At least the weather is pretty close to glorious. Upper 60s, slight breeze, much sun. All that fresh air and activity should kick my butt come bedtime!

Just had a phone call from my mother saying Dad’s just had emergency surgery to remove part of his bowel.. Not what I wanted to hear, though apparently it’s gone well. Fingers crossed there’s no complications.

Nut, crossing my fingers too, hope he is doing well.

Good thoughts to your dad, Nut!

I’m a bit achy from disassembling the benches on the deck. Well, from the first one, anyway. The second was easy since I was able to stand while doing it. It was also an eye opener - that deck is in really bad shape. Lots of rot and insect intrusion. It lasted about 12 years - I guess that’s pretty good for a DIY project. Next step will involve a chainsaw and loading the truck. Then I need to clean things up and decide what will become of that space.

Got a load of jeans in the dryer - FCD didn’t want to wear his better jeans to work on the boat tomorrow. I’ll be going with him - he’s been chasing leaks in the water system. One was a duh - he didn’t tighten a fitting. Another is a mystery leak that may require replacement of some tubing. We’ll have to check both showers and sinks, too. Anyway, he’ll need me to save him from having to run back and forth and climb in and out and such in search of tools and such.

Glad I ran my errands today.

Howdy Y’all! We did not go to the not too shabby Chinese hog trough buffet. OYKW said he changed his mind and wanted to go to GC. Hey, he paid, so I was fine with that. I didn’t want fried chikin cause I did that yestiddy, to I channeled MetalMouse and went with pot roast, smashed N.O.T. and gravy, and assorted veggies. I had pee-kahn and chawklit pie for dessert. Nappage was badly needed after that.

Taters sounds like Maizie (never sure if I spell that right) and Buster were glad to be sprung from jail. Sounds like your son is settlin’ in his new digs nicely.

{{{Nuts}}} hope dad is doin’ well. Sometimes it’s nice to have a good gossip with a colleague.

rocker yes! we need Team Mollie tshirts!

MOOOOOOM Ty might be good to sleep with tonight.

Cookie perhaps Sadie enjoys a variety of places for naps. Personally I like to vary mine between bed, sofa, and recliner. One should have choices for nappage.

doggio Cinco de Mayo falls on Taco Tuesday this year. I believe that is reason to celebrate with a Mexican beer. Or margaritas. Or tequila shots. Or all three.

Mollie feel free to include as much of my drivel as you like as well. The worst that could come of it is your therapist questionin’ the sanity of some of your imaginary intartoobz friends. I have questioned my own sanity for years.

Nope. The only place I use them is on the decorative cover for an outlet or switch. No idea why that hasn’t changed over the last 50 years, but I’m going to go with “old electricians always did it that way.”

My dithering coworker has caused my tomorrow to be a real PITA. I asked 2 weeks ago if there were things that needed to be brought from the warehouse to the museum in order to pack up the exhibition that is going on the road for 3 years. “Uhm well, let me think about it…” As a result, I got to rent a truck for tomorrow morning and go and get all the shit and get it to the museum so’s we can pack Monday morning. Which means I’m getting to work at 8, then my boss signed me up for a meeting from 2:30-3:30, but I am already at 35 hours for the week. Math that a little, we’re really not supposed to go past 40 hours.

Appendages crossed.

Sis and I had fun today. We hit a couple of church lady thrift shops (I got a bunch of envelopes for next to nothing at one), then Texas Art Asylum, where I got some stamps and a stamp / die set, all new in the package, then made a Marketplace pickup of a solid wood microwave cart on wheels for my studio. She had picked up a Marketplace buy before she got here. We stopped at a little Mexican place for lunch, she went for a torta de lengua and I had a taco de lengua. A good time was had by both.

Best wishes, Nut.

For some unknown reason I have the word “Esperanto” running through my head to the tune of Desperado from the Eagles, which is a song I loathe. There are even bits and pieces of more lyrics hiding in the fringes of my brain.

Don’t go in there, it’s a strange place.
