I went out for dinner, left Ms Peach on her own redogniassence. She didn’t chomp anything. I’m quite happy with that.
Since I cleaned the carpets today and it’s supposed to be sunny tomorrow, Mrs. L.A. suggested we go to Little Cheerful Café for breakfast. I suggested Arlis’s Restaurant, which she says she’s never been to. Arlis’s always reminded me of Crazy Otto’s down in Lancaster, CA; big food, premium ‘bread’ choice. (Arlis’s offers pancakes, and Crazy Otto’s offered biscuits & gravy.) After perusing the menu, SWMBO decreed we shall go to Arlis’s.
Costco chicken, with leftover yellow squash with grated parm, was a hit. Lots of chicken left. I had a leg and a thigh. I don’t know what The Missus had ,but there’s a whole half-breast, the other leg and thigh, and some more left. For five bucks, you can’t beat it.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Yeah, I got it and the washer from the Freecycle Zone a couple of years ago. And it’s the element, the clothes are cold damp, not hot damp.
OK, Madame Defarge.
That you know of. ![]()
Mornin’.
I’ve never used a table saw, because I would definitely ruin the stats about wimminfolk not losing fingers… On my right hand, I’ve squished the first fingertip and sliced the very tip off the next finger (though I did somehow manage to stick it back on).
Planning a laaaazy weekend, with just a bit of pottering in the garden, and maybe going to a garden centre or two, and some defilthifying of the place.
The other reason they taste better- even the older varieties which are genetically the same as they used to be- is actually cos we have less sulphur pollution. The bitter compounds require sulphur, and soils used to have a much higher level of it, so sprouts used to make more of them and taste worse.
Whe I had to loan pens out to colleagues or occasional members of the public, I always used a stupid-looking pen- I had one as a security guard clearly badly designed for small children that had an ugly face on it and rubber hair for over a year until the ink ran out, despite loaning it out all the time. Generic ones got stolen constantly, but that thing? Always came back. Pink sparkly ones also always got returned.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 46 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 79 and sunny. Nice weather for this evenin’s big feast. I get to be a RDOS sloth until around threeish. I shall betake myself over to the church house to deal with candle and other duties in the church proper before kitchen duty begins. OYKW will be there to help serve. He likes to do that. Maybe standin’ behind a steam table brings out his inner lunchroom lady. So that’s what we will be up to today.
JtC the cabbage prep and preparer volunteers to do that every year. It’s her thang, so all of us gladly let her have at it. Hackin’ things with a cleaver is indeed satisfyin’. I enjoyed hackin’ into rutabagas yestiddy.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, slothage until I must once again people awaits!
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
We’ve done that with Otis a couple of times. Once, some time back, he did a lot of unauthorized chewing. Now it appears he just chills. I guess he’s gotten over his abandonment anxiety. Whew!
And today, the doggy door insert for the dining room sliding door is to be delivered. Here’s hoping the magnetic flap will seal out the cold sufficiently.
When Food Lion runs a sale, the small rotissed chickie is $5 and it’s plenty for supper for 2, plus leftover to make a chickie salad or for a couple of lunches. Such a deal!
This well and truly cracked me up!
Woke to 42 Ferrets with a promise of upper 50s today and not as gusty. I’ll clean both upstairs bathrooms, and maybe the kitchen, too, if I don’t run out of steam. Then if it is nice out, I make try to do some raking. We’ll just have to wait and see.
FCD said his finger doesn’t hurt as much this morning. No hard-core painkillers - just tylenol. I’m hoping he spends today on his computer rather than going near his shop. Yesterday we discussed some plans for the galley and he’s going to model it to scale and figure out how best to use the space. There was much discussion about drawer depth. He thinks 1" is useful. Well, maybe to store paper, but I think it’s pretty useless for cooking utensils. It’s not even deep enough for dish towels. Conversations will continue.
Mention was made upthread about push sticks on the table saw. He has several. He’s used them in the past. Dunno why not this time. I asked and didn’t get an answer. Must be some kind of guy thing.
And so starts another day. Happy Pi Day!!
I remember 9th grade shop classes where we were emphatically told to use a “pusher,” a notched piece of wood, instead of a hand, to feed the board into the saw.
In the school system I went to, boys and girls went to shop and home economics classes, instead of boys to shop and girls to sewing and cooking. I vaguely remember that was somewhat controversial at the time.
Okay, I’ve had some coffee, and I’m sorta thinking.
Hats off to Pythagoras, who invented pies! I like pie (cue Weebl and Bob.)
I’d have love that! Home Ec was a waste of time for me because by that time, I’d been helping my mom in the kitchen for years and I’d been sewing since I was 7. But wood shop and metal shop would have been new and exciting. But girls didn’t get to do that stuff in 1968. Dammit.
They’re expensive, but if you can afford it a SawStop table saw is the way to go. Here is the “hot dog” demo. Instantaneous stoppage upon sensing contact.
Looking out the window this morning, one would never suspect that a big storm is heading this way. Mostly sunny skies and no wind.
Good morning.
It’s 34F, dark, and raining. The expected daytime high is 44F, with a chance for morning snow or snow/rain mix. Big, white, sloppy flakes fell all day yesterday, but nothing stuck around here. Meanwhile, there was actual snow accumulation all around me, even down at sea level. My elevation is somewhere around 540 feet above sea level. So weird.
The rain and snow were heavy yesterday, and my backyard had a mini lake. Neither of the pups were interested in going outside unless they absolutely had to.
Knots, happy belated anniversary wishes.
Since it was so damn soggy yesterday, I never left the house. I need to get out today, though. The dogs need their Apoquel prescriptions refilled, I need paper towels, and I need to seriously go look at phones. I like to hold them in my hands, not just pick something out online.
But now I need to decide whether to stick with T-Mobile for phone service or switch. I’m kind of sick of their lack of human customer service. Their billing practices are becoming very rip-offish, too. I was ONE day late (when I usually pay before the bill is due) and was charged a late fee. I also need to review my internet plan from Xfinity. My promotional deal is over, and my bill jumped by 30 bucks. I need to decide whether to go under a new plan or eat the cost. The new plans have crap I don’t want or need. I would much rather just go à la carte, and I wish providers would figure that crap out. I can’t complain about Xfinity’s internet performance; it’s usually very good. So, I’m planning to stick with them for that and am debating switching to them for my cell phone service, too. So much adulting, I donwanna.
I need to finish my coffee and hop in the shower. You all take care of yourselves.
FCM, I’m glad to see that FCD both retained his finger tips and doesn’t feel pain this morning.
Dicey, I yam what I yam!
VanGo, I hope the internet sitch is fixed.
Morning all. Have broken fast and the dishwasher is running (I would have liked to have waited until after the plumbing got redone but it was so full…guess I could have washed them by hand, but technology is too deeply ingrained in me now). Nothing else on the agenda, should be a nice day, about 56F now heading to 76F and no rain for at least 36 hours. Need to do some soccer stuff (computer-wise) this weekend, season is coming up and we don’t have enough coaches for all the players, so need to appeal to/threaten folks. Otherwise should be a quiet day.
JtC, I keep a couple small bags of baby carrots in the refrigerator to snack on, not many calories and better that Cheetos for me. But concur, don’t care for them cooked.
swampy, hope the feeding frenzy goes well.
Taters, I have Verizon, so far they’ve been pretty good at service. My current service hassle is getting paperwork from the Electric company as receipt/itemized list, as all I have seen is the stuff on their computer, not mine. Complained yesterday via AI on their website, I’ll give them until Monday and then call. Everyone else can manage to do it right, what can’t they?
And onward into the morning. Have a good weekend all.
In 1976, I was part of the first seventh grade class that gave us a choice. Since I’d been cooking since I was 10, I took shop class. I still have the cutting board that I made.
I made the switch for both when I moved this summer. Xfinity had a 5 year price guarantee going on for internet (my complex is set up for them) and one year mobile free. Once I begin to pay for mobile, it will be $25. I’m currently saving about $85 a month over AT&T.
Mooooom, I’m with you on 1” deep drawers in the galley.. Even the flatware tray wouldn’t fit in that. Coming from someone who doesn’t have a drawer in the kitchen wide enough for one, it’s a PITA. You can tell who has kitchen duty at your house.
Happy pi day!
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Not a whole lot shakin’ at CasaRoja today, but I’ll get a few things done.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
We were talking about that yesterday, but he doesn’t do enough woodworking to justify the expense to us. Before this boat project, I doubt he turned on the saw more than half a dozen times in as many years.
Oh, guess who’s back out there. He promised he’d used push sticks. I swear, if he cuts another finger, he may need the emergency room for more than just a few stitches… ![]()
Why should they? The package deals make them $$$. And goodness knows we don’t want the CEOs to miss a yacht payment. ![]()
En suite bathroom has been cleaned more deeply than I’ve done the last few times. The shower gets done while I’m in there - I’ve got a spray bottle of CLR, a scrub brush, and a sponge with scotch brite on one side. FCD put the comet within reach, so it’s all pretty good. I even got down on my knees to reach into otherwise unreachable corners around the baseboards behind the terlit and the pedestal sink. It’s not great, but it’s better.
I’ve done the terlit and the sink in the hall bathroom and I sprinkled comet in the tub. Oh how I hate scrubbing tubs!! But that’s the last ick chore, so I’ll do it, whining all the way. The floor and baseboards in there are a bit more accessible. Kitchen cleaning is still doubtful. Rollsuck will be accomplished on the carpets because dog hair. Then, who knows?
Yes, he’s in his shop and no, short of tazing him, he wasn’t going to be stopped. Dammit. Tell your daughters not to marry a pig-headed man.
I just saw that cleaning the ice maker is on my calendar - guess I can get that going as it mostly cleans itself. I just dump vinegar in and push a button. Off to tend to that.
We got in yesterday afternoon. It was a five and a half hour drive, and the only slowdown was in Knoxville (natch). Mrs Magill and I had a long chat. She is anxious because she is a planner, and she wants to make a timeline, but understands that we are no where near a place where we can even begin a plan. I told her my name, and she said if I already had a name, I may have already made a subconscious decision. I dunno.
Everyone have a good Saturday.
FCM - I’m glad FCD is doing better. He really does not want to leave a finger on the floor. They cannot reattach them from a table saw accident. Trust me on that.
Don’t even attempt logic with him. For a smart, analytical man, he can be such an idiot sometimes.
Just went out to the shop. All parts still intact and I saw push sticks on the saw. He was using a nailer when I was there.
Both bathrooms are clean. Ice maker has run 2 vinegar cycles and it’s now doing its first water/rinse cycle. And I’m going to have lunch.
I understand that, but there is a good resale market for woodworking tools, and is it really worth losing a finger?
There you go, being logical and stuff. I’ve learned to pick my battles with him.
OK then, just finished a comprehensive rollsuck, plus I did a swiffer-like mop down the middle of the kitchen to clean all the water drips. Otis will get a drink then walk across the floor with a drippy beard, marking his path. The floor is now (temporarily) spot-free.
All that before noon! Go me!! I think I’ve earned a break.
Dishwasher is finishing it’s run, caught up on my You Tubes, and have consumed sufficient calories that going to the gym will not be a struggle, but a necessity… As for the house, changed trash bags, scrubbed a few items in the sink and cleaned the terlets good. So that is enough of that.
I lived in the era when boys took shop and girls Home Ec, never did learn too cook much since then.
FCM, hopefully he’ll look at the scars before engaging power tools again…all you can hope for in a stubborn man…
Mollie, hope the visit goes well.
And onward!
Yeah, I gotta stop doing that. One can earn a reputation for pedantry and pointing out the bleeding obvious.
Still no snow as yet in MSP, but there is a cloud cover building in. If we get the predicted 2"/hour, the plows won’t be able to keep up with things on the major arterials, and the neighborhood streets will be an epic mess.
