Seriously? Dude, that’s not going to stop you from having to clean up your dog poop, give it up!
(We had a neighbor who blew his thumb off with a homemade cannon. He didn’t put shot it it, just powder so it would make a big noise for New Years, but still managed to blow up his hand. Do I need to point out that he was a man?)
I think you will be OK. You haven’t been putting yourself out there and acting like an enemy of the king or anything like that. The charges got dropped when i went to jail the last time, but that doesn’t mean my name didn’t move up on their list. Do get the process started now, you don’t want to wait until after the SAVE act passes, that’s when the rush will really happen. Also, double check to see where you can do your passport application this year. The state department quietly closed down more than half of them across the country.
It took over 30 years, but I’ve finally broken Hubs of that habit, but he sometimes still forgets. That’s when I start picking up all of his random detritus and putting it on his keyboard and computer chair. I don’t care what he does with it then, when his room gets really bad I can close the door.
The food stamp office used to leave pens out for people to steal and they all walked away very quickly. I started taking the caps off the pens and throwing them away. That seriously slowed the thefts down. Most folks had enough self awareness to not want an uncapped pen in their pocket or purse so would remember to leave it at the counter.
Now is a great time to visit, things are starting to bloom and there is a lot of the bright green of new growth.
Well, that sure makes a lot of sense now, doesn’t it?
Do you leave the room when new tech installations are happening? I make the cats leave too, I don’t want them to learn the words I know will happen.
Always use the safety guards!
Oh yeah, we know how to wire up a ceiling fan, especially if the wiring is already there. Mounting one is a totally different thing. Are you getting a fancy one? There are SO many options now, once I started looking at them all I had to walk away due to overload.
I actually do sometimes remember to freeze and label them, but then forget I have them until I toss another small bag in with them.
So not much is going on here. I started the cottage cheese this morning and had a bit of a panic. We have several instant read thermometers, but I’m in the habit of using a specific one. When the milk was starting to feel warm, I grabbed for it and couldn’t find it. I dug around for a while and couldn’t find it and then learned that the unused thermometers had dead batteries and of course they weren’t standard AA’s we use for almost everything.
All worked out, though and the milk didn’t get too warm (over 90F and the fat cell membranes would start to thin, 95F starts them rupturing). Its starting to develop firm up and look more jiggly than liquid so I’m happy with its progress.
Last night I put some blueberries in the possum’s dish and was very entertained to see blue hand-prints on the patio this morning. Nobody’s gotten any ticks, so it looks like feeding the possums is working
Well, I guess I should probably do some laundry or something, I dunno. Maybe I’ll just stitch instead.
Oh look, it’s Lucky Friday! It started at 40 ferrets and is supposed to hit 70. Spring is here; the redbuds are showing and the big pear tree by the highway has blossomed. Out at the bird feeders, the hen doves can’t get a minute’s peace from the cock doves chasing them-- “hey, girl! hey, girl! hey, girl!”-- all day long.
I drank the hard stuff this morning, Peet’s Major Dickason’s brewed in the percolator, to fortify myself for the dreaded trip to town. It’s so peoply there. Sam’s and Costco have special early hours for merchants-- I wish places had special hours for people who just want to do their errands and flee back home and not have to visit for ten minutes each with a dozen people who can somehow recognize my masked face from fifty yards away.
It is a beautiful day and hopefully I’ll sleep outdoors tonight. I can rockhound the creek beds after all that rain, and see a ton of wildlife-- spring fever is going full blast. There’s a barred owl hanging around, maybe two, and I’m hoping to get a glimpse of a nest. I have a couple of pieces of new gear to play with, and this is a solo hike, so I’m really looking forward to it.
red Her name is Magnolia and we call her Maggie.
And when I say “spoiled”:
The princess prefers not to poop in her own yard and asks to be walked to do her business. It’s ridiculous: she has a doggie door; there is a big unfenced yard; there’s forest in every direction and she can poop where and when she pleases. Instead, she has somehow trained us to accompany her on poop walks-- an anal-retentive dog.
Maggie gets away with this because she’s so damned sweet. I’ve known approximately a zillion dogs and she really is one of the humblest and most patient creatures I’ve ever met.
Boofae Aw, rats, I didn’t know that about Imgur! Flickr was “unable to form account” for some reason, but I will try again. I lurk some boards where I can’t see pictures because I’m not a member; it’s aggravating.
JtC I never thought about it before, but I remember several men with missing finger-ends including both grandfathers and a couple of great uncles. I can’t remember any woman with a similar injury.
Metal Mouse Fire ants are a scourge here. We’ve had some success with Amdro. It doesn’t kill them off, but they’ll move the nest somewhere else. It’s whack-a-mole all season long to keep them out of the yard.
Flyboy Congrats! Monday is soon, are you nervous?
VanGo She is a pretty little thing, even though according to the breed standard she’s the pits. She is light, but on her face it’s age. She turned 8 this month and it’s hard to believe.
The princess chases squirrels and deer, if she knows somebody is watching. She and the deer have some sort of detente: she pretends to chase them and they pretend to run away, but only if there are witnesses. Maggie will happily watch from the patio while the deer walk right up and raid the bird feeders. I assume she got a hoof upside the head as a pup and learned to leave deer alone.
The Senior Clerk was off, so I was running the 100 and 200 Slides. When I wasn’t heaving in Secondary Sort, the 100 or 200 Table that is. Whoever they stuck loading 200 Top Red wasn’t making the drivers happy, the bins were full at last rev,
SQUEEEEEEEEEE!
It covered new construction and renovations above a certain level. In my complex, because it’s pre-ADA, 8 of 9 buildings are ground level and have ramps that connect the handicapped spots to the ground floor. My building has steep stairs connecting the hanidcapped spots to the ground floor.
[Hitchhiker’s Guide To the Galaxy]Belgium![/HHGTTG]
Enjoy!
Just remember, if you hear a strange noise, don’t wander off and have sex by yourself.
Yeah, I wne to one once, the prices were worth driving 10 moiles out of my way.
: headesk :
Can they save it?
It makes me wonder how many Battalion safety briefings were because of Sgt *FCD
Blue hand prints? Maybe they wee eating Smurfs, too.
Aha. That’s one of those things I’ve forgotten. Since I don’t buy them, and only eat them when they are included in something else I ordered, I barely remember their real names, much less the MMP name, or their name in German, French, and Italian.
Oh, that is GORGEOUS! Looking forward to seeing the progress pics.
And machinists. Most of my dad’s uncles worked for General Motors, directly, or indirectly. At least two of them were missing parts of their fingers.
Swoon How can anybody resist those eyes?
Congratulations!
And this is one of the many reasons I make sure to catch up with the MMP. There’s always something to learn.
Tuesday we went and saw the Kodo drummers, then Wednesday we worked really late. Thursday was supposed to be an early night, but I messed up the programming of the washer, and it didn’t start on time. Had to start the laundry at 7pm, and our machine takes 2.25 hours to wash, and then the dryer was another 2 hours, so it ended up being another late night.
Today we had off, and the weather was gorgeous (14°C / 57°F with blue sky). Had tapas for lunch and then did a bit of with shopping. Bought a bottle of Chambord, another bottle of Kilchoman Whisky, and even found an Elizabeth George mystery at the used book store. Tomorrow’s weather is going to be very wet, and there may even be white stuff. So tomorrow we’re staying inside. Might work on the whisky collection - don’t want it taking up too much space.
The Brussels sprouts of today have been bred to taste better than the ones available when I was a wee lad. Still, they don’t taste as good as ordinary cabbage, IMO. The advantage of being bite-size or two-bite size is not enough to lure me.
I finished The House in the Cerulean Sea and I started Carl Hiassen’s Wrecker. I love that guy’s writing, but I wish it was easier to remember how to spell his nnamme.
Well, shopping is done and my ceiling now has a working fan. If I had called these guys first I’d have a lot more money in the bank, but probably the wiring work will be worth in the end. Nothing on tap for the remainder of the day, so may head off to the gym for some lazy workouts and maybe a lap or two in the pool. Got a note that my Federal tax refund should be here by the 17th, so that will help some. 63F now and due to get near 70F so a pleasant day all told.
Knots, a happy anniversary to you and the Mrs. And I’ve escaped with a few bank pens in my day, albeit I actually was doing banking there. Never had a problem with my printer, plug it in, connect it to the computer and Bob’s your Uncle.
wet one, hope the Doc’s visit is OK and you don’t get blown sideways.
Mollie, enjoy the drive.
FCM, the elementary schools around here are from 7:40-2:45 and the middle/high schools are 8:15-3:15 so I try to avoid them around that time. And fingers (all attached) crossed that FCD’s injury is not too serious.
flyboy, thanks for sharing the memory.
JtC, best wishes on the passport application. Don’t know if the fan is fancy or not, it has five blades and cost about $120.
GenJ, I get recognized now and then when I am shopping by parents whose kids I’ve coached, but nothing more that a couple of sentences take care of things. Not bothered by people, but do prefer my privacy. And love the Maggie the dog stories.
Taters, better you had the dream about scorpions and spiders..it disturbed you and would have rendered me catatonic.
Dicey, I am envious, I would like to head the Kodo Drummers live someday before I pass on.
Knots, ISWYDT.
And guess I need to gather up my sweatin’ clothes and head off to the gym. Take care all.
I think I’ll go to Costco today. We only have one roll of paper towels left. I told The Spousal Unit that as long as I’m there, I may as well pick up a rotisserie chicken. I could get a rotisserie chicken at the supermarket near us, but it costs almost twice as much as the ones at Costco. On the other hand, they are about half the size. I think I’ll get at least one tray of the garlic pesto salmon, too.
I might go to Chef’s Store to look for skin-on breakfast sausages. They have Smithfield, but I think they’re only an ounce each. I’d prefer ‘banger-sized’ sausages.
Spring and fall are glorious drives through the hills. I miss that.
That’s like me with changing a tire. Technically, I still know how to do it. Physically, it ain’t happenin’.
Mooooom, I hope that FCD didn’t do any permanent damage to his finger.
I had lunch and carved up a cantaloupe to put in the fridge. I’m stepping out in a few to walk Nelson, then I’ll throw the laundry in the wash. Such excitement!
When FCD was checking in at the ER, and said “table saw” the woman in line behind him (an EMT as it happens) said “It’s always table saws!”
And we’re home - all told he was there less than 3 hours, which is pretty amazing. He chipped the bone on his index finger and cut the crap out of the top of the finger, but the pad is intact. They gave him percoset, stitched him up, and sent him home with antibiotics and instructions to see a hand specialist.
He’s really embarrassed about it all. I suspect that it happened both times because he wasn’t thinking about what he was doing. He’s terrified that it’s dementia, but I don’t think so. I told him if he’s worried about dementia, he should ask his doc to get him evaluated.
I had my own brain fart - I loaded our t-shirts in the washer, added the detergent, shut the door, and neglected to hit the start button. So I came home to dry jeans in the dryer and dry, unwashed shirts in the washer. Jeans are all hung up and shirts are being sloshed about.
FCM That is not great about FCD’s finger/table saw issues. I’ve been using table saws since the late 80s, the closest I ever got to hurt was when I was making hundreds of fake bricks for a play and shoving foam through it. Young dumb college freshman. I shaved my left middle fingernail about halfway through, but fortunately didn’t draw blood. Gotta pay attention when using fast spinney sharp things.
It seems that my internet issues are a problem on the pole on the street. The tech said that my neighbor stopped by to ask him about the issue while he was up on a ladder, so it’s not just me with this crap. They claim that a crew will be out in “48 hours” to fix it. I’m hoping Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy are along for the trip.
Abbey throws up fairly often. (Less, since we stopped giving her fish pâté.) We clean it up, but there are still spots. CatMom made like she was going to clean them a few weeks ago, but we weren’t sure of whatever liquid she was thinking of. (I think we had 409.) So she ordered Simple Green, which works well and is a lot cheaper than the enzyme cleaner we used when poor blind Tonka was not making it to the litter box. It came quickly, but then… nothing. Today I moved furniture and vacuumed. Man there were a lot of puke spots! I pre-sprayed them with Simple Green, and put the same in the hopper on our little carpet cleaner. The place looks presentable now.
I had a puerco al pastor burrito for lunch. I guess I’d better hit the shower. I’ll head out to Costco at two o’clock, so I should be home about the time Wifey, RN finishes her day, and right around kitty feeding time.
ETA: Oh, I also upgraded the 13” MacBook Pro’s OS from Sequoia to Tahoe. Haven’t done it to the 15-inch yet. I’ll see if it prompts me. The 13-inch was my ‘work computer’; so I closed FortiClient, MS Desktop Connect, Teams, Word, and whatever else was open, shut it down, and put it up on a shelf on top of my old PowerBook.
He’s managed to go till this week without major table saw mishaps. I had one a few years back where a small piece kicked back and slammed into my chest giving me a nasty bruise and a permanent scar, but I don’t think it drew blood. When I went out to turn off the pellet stove, I looked at the piece he was cutting - there was no reason for his finger to be that close to the blade - it had to be a major brainfart.
We just re-dressed it. It’s easier for me to look at is since it’s stitched - when it was split, not so much. I’m not good with bloody owies. But I manage.
Push sticks are your friend. No matter how skilled one is, the tools don’t care. I have (only once so far) launched a small piece of wood back from the table saw, it unfortunately caught a coworker in the arm, at about 20’ away. It is really kind of scary what those things do.
So the original plan was for me to drive Dora the Explorer around to charge up the battery, fill up with gas, and do an errand or two. Except I didn’t drive far enough before stopping, so I had to call a tow truck for a jump. that cost, both time and money. Also the dryer has stopped heating. On the bright side, this martini taste good.
< wrestles swampy for fainting couch and clutching pearls >
I grew up off bearing for my dad in his wood shop. When I went to work in a furniture factory, I already had a healthy respect for saws, sanders, planers and glue presses. Even so, like you, I took the tip of a nail off in a chop saw and sanded a few knuckles.
I love kodo! I try to see them every time they are in phila. So good.
fcm, i,’m glad fcd’s injury wasn’t too horrific. I hope he heals well.
4 bags of shredding today. Sadly, some people don’t respect shred day and wanted me to do other things. Seriously people! You know it is shred day. There are 4 other days for non-shred things.
My get up and go has gotten up and left. Chair and cat time is tonight’s activity.
Howdy Y’all! I survived the doc, vampire and pharmacy. I stopped for a McBreakfast and then headed over to the church house to whack, peel, and chunk up rutabagas. The N.O.T. got cooked as well. Also the cabbage got cut up but I didn’t deal with that. We will convene at three p.m. tomorrow to cook cabbage and rutabagas, fry up the N.O.T., and warm the other stuff up. All will be ready when the ravenous hordes ascend at five-thirty. My inner seven year old got fish sticks, Mac & cheese and peas ‘n carrots for sup. He grumbled a bit, but et his veggies.
Knotty a belated happy anniversary to the Mrs. and you!
Mollie enjoy the trip and drive safely.
MOOOOOOM hope FCD and the finger are OK. I see that he is not fingerless. Good! Also BTDT with the washer. I have to press the umm..button? down for three seconds before it starts. After I apparently didn’t that one time, I now wait until I hear the machine start before I walk away.
MetalMouse yay for the new ceilin’ fans. All of ours are high techy techy with remotes.
doggio it’s low tp counts that make me clutch my pearls and fall on my faintin’ couch. It then takes gin, smellin’ salts and fannin’ to revive me.
rocker how dare they disrespect the sanctity of shred day!
Evening all. Finally did make it to the gym and hung around there until nearly 6pm, they have some comfy chairs where I can do some reading between spells on the treadmill/bikes. Burned 1,600 calories according to the machines, so got a couple protein bars at the gym’s desk, since I was having my Big Bowl O’Sallit tonight and not many proteins in that. So I am now fed and with the clock approaching 8pm, have no ambition to do anything else today. Tomorrow will be the first Saturday that I have no soccer stuff (either coaching or refereeing) on my schedule in 2.5 months, so will have to figure out what to do with myself.
FCM, glad FCD’s damage wasn’t that severe, I doubt it’s dementia, just overly confident plus the usual short-term memory getting shorter for us aged folks (stlll am putting everything in my pocket to go out except the car keys for some reason…).
VanGo, hope the internet is fixed good this weekend. And I understood that reference.
doggio, is the dryer that old, or could it be a buildup of lint or something? And only reason I keep my AAA membership is in case I kill a battery somewhere sometime.
rocky, so you are the Shredder? Beware of any teenage turtles you might see…
Swampy, sounds like it will be quite the feasting tomorrow. Enjoy. No remotes for the fan, just wall switches (two for the lights, one for the fan).
And that’s all for now. Probably need to add a few more calories and there is plenty of applesauce in the refrigerator, so off I go.
I woulda done that for you, I love taking my cleaver to heads of cabbage or lettuce. A couple of very satisfying whacks and its all done.
I agree with your inner seven year old about cooked carrots. I think they are ick. I like them fresh and I put them in food for the flavor, but then I push them to the side of my plate or put them on Hubs plate if it is close enough.
Priorities people, priorities!
Do you have a big one or an office model that requires fewer than 10 sheets at a time? Back when I worked for the county, they had a big shredder you could toss a phone book into and it would just clink a couple of times and then it was gone.
Well, that kinda sucks. Hubs has a trickle charger for his bike, and I know it wasn’t that costly. If there is an outlet where Dora parks, you might consider investing in one.
Dad once pushed a big sponge down the table saw rail to show me what would happen. Life long respect was learned that day.
Back when I bought my current car, Hubs wanted to show me where the jack and spare were and where the jack slots were. I dutifully followed him outside and he started demonstrating then stopped and looked at me: “Why am I doing this? I know you aren’t going to change a tire, you will call me or a tow truck.”
But yeah, like you, I know how to do a whole lot of things I can’t do now. sigh
Oh gosh, that’s gotta suck. You haven’t started a new job for so long, this has to suck so bad. Did you check out what all of your new co-workers are wearing? Have you looked around the area (online) for lunch places? Do you have an insulated lunch box, break room fridges tend to be pretty ick.
People are going to steal pens (and lighters), that’s just how it is. Everyone does it without even thinking, they just sign and pocket/purse it. I’m sure we have more than a few stolen pens around our place.
The food stamp office pens were those cheap stick pens that cost a dollar for a box of twenty, so it wasn’t usually an issue until close to the end of the fiscal year. Then pens became a valued commodity and were hoarded zealously.
I agree that you should make room for more whisky and books tomorrow. Drinkin’ and readin’ on a snowy day is the best way to do it!
