(Old) Time Is On My Side (?) - A Daylight Savings MMP

It’s up to 49 degrees Ferret Height(9.444 Centipedes), and the vermin are frolicking by the tipped over feeder. Spot is happy.

There’s a 99% less chance of anyone in the apartment self amputation anything, or going full Ozzy Osbourne on a deer.

Took me a minute to realize you meant the fireplace, and not arson.

Really?? Do I look like an arsonist to you???
:fire:
:stuck_out_tongue:

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f out there with little predicted change. Weatherapp says “All the clouds can get back in the fucking car, and drive off to the Valley of Aw, Hell, No!”

The journey over to Antwerp was fun, additional biometric checks at the French border didn’t take long either. We got to Brussels, missed a train to Antwerp so we popped across the road to a bar we usually visit on the return journey. Then we got a train through to Antwerp, and a tram down to where the hotel is.

We wandered round the city, checked out some places we visited before and have walked quite a lot. Saturday we went down to the river to watch the boats then meandered through the little cobbled streets for a while. Today, we are going to the zoo which is always fun. No plans on dinner tonight, we will find a nice restaurant - there are plenty to choose from!

My leg cramps woke me at 6:15 am. I got up, forgetting to shut off the alarm clock, which goes off at 7. My alarm clock, made for folks with hearing loss, has a little pod under my pillow that rattles enough to wake me up. It’s not enough to wake up Mrs. Nott if I’m there to shut it off. Usually, I don’t wake her up until the coffee’s ready. Today, she had a ruder awakening. Grr. Grawlix leg cramps!

Outside, it’s 39 ferrets, rising later to 68! Yes, 68 degrees. It should be an interesting day, weather-wise.

Morning all. Up and mostly sheveled, Sunday paper and some other items acquired from the Kroger and about 2 hours out from leaving for Texas Roadhouse for dinner. Another pretty much nothing day, weather is nice now (62F heading to 77F) but some bad stuff due around 10pm.

Van Go, ouch, not good. Best wishes to friend and his wife. And laundry and some work-related stuff equals production in my world; you need to work on your sloth skills some more…

Happy deheathenization swampy.

FCM, daughter should just up and move the family to Akron, given all the visiting she does…

Well, we didn’t start the fire…

boo fae, sounds like a relaxing weekend.

Knots, leg cramps are the pits. And I just bought a new alarm clock given the one I have doesn’t do the job with my hearing loss. If it doesn’t work, may have to look for that rattler you mention.

And that’s the morning news. Have a good Sunday all.

Happy Sunday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Not a whole lot shaking at CasaRoja today, so I’ll read and mess around in the studio.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Yesterday at 0930 and this morning at 0930.

And it’s still coming down hard.

I got the corned beef into the slow cooker about an hour ago.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 32F and overcast. It’ll remain mostly cloudy today, with rain arriving late in the afternoon and a high of 47F.

A few more snowflakes fell yesterday morning, but again, nothing stuck here. It stuck everywhere else, though. Oh well.

VanGo, I’m sorry about your friend and his wife. That’s a lot to deal with.

J-Bats, I hope your trip is uneventful and safe. Best of luck on the other side of the country.

JtC, I got into an open house for a very fancy-schmancy house with my stepmother years and years ago. It was fun. We told the agent I was thinking of moving from Washington to Oregon, so I was looking at potential homes. There was no way this particular house would have been in my budget!

I don’t think much of anything is on the agenda today. I should probably wash the bedding and towels, but I think that’ll be the extent of any chores.

Please take care of yourselves.

Afternoon all.

Was raining earlier, but it’s stopped for now at least, still a bit windy and cold, so not very tempting to spend too much time outside.

I may head over to the shops in a bit. Maybe. If the couch loosens its grip.

The spawn and I are watching the SpongeBob movie. Earlier, it was a series of Babymonster music videos - I don’t much like K-Pop. But they’re quiet, so there’s that. The dogs have been rasslin’ in the yard for at least 2 hours. Daughter messaged from near Pittsburg - she should get here between 4 and 5.

Good times…

We won’t be getting anything like that, but it is supposed to go from a high of 86 ferrets this afternoon to waking up to 42 ferrets tomorrow. That’s prime tornado weather.

I was awakened last night about 0100 by my next door neighbor and her adult daughter fighting. I think somebody did some shoving and there was a lot of yelling. I’m guessing that alcohol was involved.

Its 73 right now. Tomorrow evening will be 20.

I cleaned, dusted, and vacuumed. I took out the trash and recycling, and filled the vermin feeder. Spot did nothing.

Even worse: Big toe cramp.

:open_mouth:

It’s 2:45pm and rain has been sheetingdown since I got up at eight. Thunderstorms are supposed to start at some point then the change over to snow. Thank goodness I don’t have to drive to work tomorrow or any other day. Visited Ariel, who is in her stall today due to the weather. We went for walkies and she had lots of hay and treats. I am in my velour, lounging suit, just hanging around and doing a whole lot of nothing.

Howdy, howdy!

Nawth Jawja started out at 42 ferrets and we’ll see 75 today, then 35 and storms tonight, with possible SNOW tomorrow and low of 23, wtf?
Sunday is supposed to be don’t look at the news day. I haven’t succeeded before but Today Is A New Day.

Coffee was Bustelo in the moka pot, prepared Cubano. I could feel my hair humming from the caffeine.

Allasudden Costco doesn’t carry the crow peanuts anymore, wtf?

It is not my day to dance attendance on the princess. Nevertheless I had to put on britches and shoes, and turn around and go back for a jacket, and go find the dog-- who was freaking out at a lizard or something, at 8 a.m. on a Sunday-- and call her inside. The neighbors can hear her, y’know! wtf?

I will make sure we’ve got firewood and water in case the power goes out, batten down the hatches outside, pick up a half dozen plush toys strewn about the yard, then do some of that RDOS for the rest of the day.
Folks talking about corned beef has given me a craving. I’ll make reuben chowder with caraway chaffles tonight.

So true, and I’m working on it! I brought this on myself and I can change it. For a very long time I’ve been the “Mom” people call on when the Vigaro hits the fan. It’s validating and gratifying to be the one with all the answers, and I was that person, and now I’m not. I don’t need the aggravation. I am out of the rat race. My rat is scratched.
The younger kindred have taught me to say, “I’m not about that life.” I like that.

We do have foxes, and that’s likely what I heard catching little fuzzy things during the night. It’s not unusual to see a fox in the car headlights at night, but I don’t see them hiking. I think they’re too shy. I’ve sure smelled them, though.

Clafoutis is one of the recipes that still comes out delicious after the low-carb substitutions, plus it’s fast and easy. I mix it up in the blender and then add thawed mixed berries instead of cherries. “Crustless fruit quiche” is close enough as a description. For guests, I dress it up with a dollop of whipped cream on top, casually drop the French name that’s hard to pronounce, and that passes for fancy around here.

Of course it is never too late! Even if it’s in your own backyard, sleeping outdoors under the sky for the first time is kinda thrilling. My first night camping solo in the wilderness was an unforgettable experience, mastering the monkey mind that says, “it is night and you are all alone, yer gonna die.” It got addicting real fast.

I like your reason! Usually it’s because folks can’t cope with shitting in the woods.
When I have novice hikers along I brew good coffee, hoping they’ll have fun and want to hike again. Instant coffee is not fun.
This trip was solo and off-trail, so brewed coffee was sacrificed on the altar of reduced pack weight. Among the hard-core, my hot instant coffee is considered decadent because they hike stoveless. Cold coffee is where I draw the line.

@scareyfaerie. Trains! Yerpeeuns have trains everywhere and I’m envious. An overnight train trip in a sleeper car is on my bucket list.

I know people who drink tonic water (with quinine) before bed and swear it prevents leg cramps. I wonder if there’s anything to it? There’s a lot of woo in folk medicine, but some surprisingly effective things, too.

@Chefguy What. a. view.

:roasted_sweet_potato:

:heart_hands:

Yeah, it’s not bad. But I preferred our living room view in Anchorage:

If you put enough gin in it, you don’t notice the cramps so much for sure…

I managed to drag myself to the shops, and even managed to cook a big pasta bake with a reasonable amount of vegetation in it for the next few days. I would like a sticker to put on my good behaviour chart please.

My shopping, laundry and cleaning routine have been completely thrown off this month by my nieces both having birthdays (1 down, 1 to go) and if that wasn’t enough, my brother’s getting married (why now, with 2 kids already and the 3rd and last on the way, I have no idea) next weekend, all of which require a trip halfway down the YouKay taking up the whole weekend. And, in the case of the wedding, requires dressing all fancy, which is not my forte.

I think they’re getting a bit carried away- the bigger niece is getting 2 birthdays, like she’s the queen, one on the actual day with just family, then a second big one with her pre-school friends a week later. She’s only 4, it seems a bit much. Thankfully I don’t have to attend the pre-school one…

I plan to drive down for the next two trips to make it simpler, after the chaos from the last trip back- though the train company did refund the fare at least (in 24 hours from request, no less). It does give more flexibility, but it’s at least 7 hours each way… For the last trip that would mean I can fit in a side trip, as I’ll be driving almost right past a juggling event and it’s a holiday weekend so I think I’ll get away with taking an extra day or two off to see a bunch of people I’ve not seen in years.

I’m debating booking a cheap hotel for the night before the wedding rather than staying at theirs, so I’m not stuck sleeping on a terrible air mattress then trying to dress up all fancy while being used as a climbing frame by overexcited small people with my judgmental mother making ‘helpful’ comments on everything…

Apparently my flying ping pong ball machine is too popular.. The kids didn’t want to play with the other stuff.

I saw Brian, the stray cat, today. I think he’s now living in the little hut the neighbors made for him. And he’s looking, shall we say, well fed. I’m hoping to see him on my porch when the weather gets better.

We got a bunch of the set for the high school musical done today. Had a good group of very small female students there to help build. I mean the tallest was maybe 5’2". But they were very good at what we asked them to do. Oddly, no guys.

Is wicked windy outside. The area is under a wind advisory until tomorrow afternoon. Hoping no trees come down on anything important.
