Got done with yoga and am showered. We just sent out Squeaky for Strombolis for lunch.
Look - I promised to be good, and there have been almost zero instances of anthropophagy since The Incident.
They’re Green Arrow and Black Canary - Star City’s power couple.
Same, though I am trying to use nicknames more, since I like it when people use mine. I’ll go though and reply or quote and reply, and then go to the top and add any mundane bit I feel like sharing.
I do, and I probably should, but ugh - cleaning the ceiling fans?
FTM - I hear you, hon. Mrs Magill figured out early on that everyone has their price, mine happens to be ice cream. A little bribe ice cream can go a long way.
Good on you for the train sets. I’d love to see pictures of FCD’s Scalextric tracks when their done.
Gosh, thanks everyone! What have I got myself into?
Hi Nellie!
Thanks, Boofae!
Hi LH75! I live with a quilter. She’s got a big honkin’ sewing machine that rattles the whole house, and uses a long-arm machine somewhere up near Chattanooga. Cleveland, TN, I think.
Swampy, my mother said that only Yankees put sugar in cornbread. That was the kiss of death because we did not do “Yankee” things in my mother’s house.
One time I was in Waffle House sitting with folks “not from around here,” and one of them sprinkled sugar on their grits right in front of the server. I looked at her and she looked at me; it was an amusing moment of cultural connection.
Fartblossoms are, broccoli maybe?
And what is RDOS, please? I just can’t parse it out.
@Seanette, I’m not gonna ask about Lxxxx the Sxxxxxxxx. I know better.
Mmmm, dark chocolate works for me!
Hi Knots!
This sounds like a type of survivor’s guilt, and it can gnaw a person to pieces. It’s hard to allow joy, to stop the internal auto-damper that says you haven’t “earned” a moment of ease. Sending you a big hug!
You have a cake! Is it your birthday?
re: the Ice Cream Diet. That’s a weird thing that happened to me when I was losing weight. Go for days with no apparent progress, then have a little cheat meal and suddenly the loss catches up to the caloric deficit. My trainer called it a whoosh.
Hi Taters!
Hi JtC! I grew up seeing 'possums and it’s so cool to watch a mama waddle along with her litter hanging all over her fur. Where I live now we have lots of raccoons and armadillos but I’ve not seen any 'possum. The crow friends haven’t come to the house yet, so we do our offerings in a field up the road. Roasted in-shell peanuts are a mainstay along with bird muffins I make. Meaty bones left over from roasted chicken are a particular favorite and they’ll squabble over those.
Thank you for the tips! I can feel my own eyes glaze over when I try to learn new computer things.
I want to see that! We moved to West Virginia almost two years ago, before that we had lived in central AZ for 35 years. Almost everything here is new and different, I’m loving it!
I have a raven story to share. We live next to a big open area that a neighbor mows. Harry is in his mid-80’s and has a raven buddie. Harry has a school bell mounted in his front yard so visitors can summon him from his gardening and landscaping duties. The raven learned that the school bell could also be used to summon Harry to bring treats.
On day last summer I heard the bell going off and then the crow hollering and making a racket while flying back over the gully and back to the bell to ring it again. I thought that was odd and walked out in our back yard to see what was going on and the raven stopped with the bell and started swooping in and out of the gully while yelling at me. I finally figured it out and went to the edge of the gully to see Harry motionless at the bottom.
Mrs Harry would have come out looking for him at dinner time, but without the raven, Harry would have been laying there for quite a while.
While Harry was in the hospital the raven would ring the bell for treats and a family member would be right out with a tray, but it was obvious to anyone that the raven was ringing for Harry, not the treats.
They are back together now. I’m always amazed to see that the raven can still fly, he is well past portly nowadays.
I just watched Mrs Magill work her ass off for twenty-five years to get where she is, while I kinda waltzed along. I think the official term is Imposter Syndrome.
If you right click on the pic that you want to share, then click on open image in new tab, copy the image only and link it, you’ll just share that picture.
Sounds like my paper stash.
Firday it is! There really isn’t enough for a full load in the hamper now, so I’ll wash it then.
My dad and I were talking about Lionel trains yesterday. I told him that I really didn’t care much about the trains themselves, but given space for a layout, I’d have a ball building the landscapes. I built a dollhouse once and it looks like they would be similar processes.
As a diabetic, I find that ice cream that doesn’t have candy / cookies in it doesn’t raise my BG nearly as much as other desserts.
Happy birthday mollie!
Sounds like the rain is stopping, just in time for Nelson’s afternoon walk. I just found out that he’s OK with plums with a little yogurt on them. I was eating chopped plums in Greek yogurt for lunch and dropped a piece of plum on the floor. He swooped in and licked up the yogurt, then ran off with the piece of plum. It took him a bit to get through the skin (he’s missing a few teeth), but he ate it all.
To all: Always take my tech advice last. My method always kinda gets it done, but it is usually the most complicated way to do it. Happily the Mump has such fine folks as Nelson’s Mom who knows what she’s doing with a keyboard so always listen to their tech advice first!
Incoming rant: My passport application got denied. The original application date is now past its “good by” date and I have to start all over, money and all. To say that I’m royally pissed off would be an understatement. When I can talk without throwing swear words all over, I’m going to call the lawyer who got me out of jail and ask for a sit down.
Did ya’ll know that you can hire lawyers that specialize in civil rights violations? I’m not the only one who has my lawyers number on speed dial. ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!
I went to the Post Office to mail my Federal and California income taxes. I’ve printed off the instructional emails from USPS for onboarding. Tofu is marinating and waiting to be baked. Cats are asleep. I think I’ll open a tin of smoked sprats, so I don’t think they’ll be asleep long. The wind came up for a little bit, and it’s chilly out. My wife said this morning that it should snow Saturday morning before we wake up.
@JaneDoe42 That is the best story I’ve heard in a long time! Corvids are amazing. I feel like we (humans) have barely scratched the surface toward understanding animal intelligence.
And the 20th century has returned to Casa Rat…power is back on, food is back in the refrigerator, and I’ve done a little trip to the bank to cash a check and order some Euros for my April trip. Been thinking about going to the gym, but tunder-boomers are due in an hour or two and it’s getting near meal-time, so maybe do a skip today. Also did a little cleaning and shuffled my files around some, so for me I have been industrious.
80F now but with the rain coming in it’ll drop into the 50’s tomorrow afternoon.
Mollie, now you really have me interested in bagels and there is a new bagel shop about 3 miles away… And yes, I think you chose wisely when it came to a life partner. AND HIPPO_BIRDIES TWO EWES!!
rocky, always nice to make a new puppeh friend.
Taters, sorry about the cataracts, I fear that one of these days that will be prescribed for me, too. And a sad for your colleague, but I guess if it is one’s time to go, that is the easiest way…
Sounds like this is storm season for a lot of Mumpers; mine is about 40-50 miles west according to the radar, but moving into the area.
JtC, the John Lennon dance made me laugh, that’s some good dark humor… And think you told the crow and Harry story here before, but loved hearing it again. You’ll have to clue GenJ in on how you got the Mumper name “Jane The Cane” (JTC). And sounds like a government screw-up on the passport (big surprise) and hope the lawyer can do something about it.
FCM, I do not buy Ice Cream, because like Potato Chips and Girl Scout cookies (finished off the two boxes I bought Saturday yesterday) I have no resistance or willpower with them. Enjoy playing with the trains, I still remember the big layout we had when I was a pre-teen.
GenJ, sounds like you’re not to far from my neck of the woods (N. Ali-bama).
And that’s all for now, need to get the car back in the garage before the rains come.
Good golly, Miss Molly, I hope your birthday was wonderful.
Hubs and I have had that conversation several times. I can put a chip clip on a bag and forget about them, all bags of chips or cookies are single serving bags for him.
Heck, I love to bake and he can’t resist cookies so I found an old folks home to take all of the xtras. I get to bake, he gets a few and some old farts get a home made treat.
I did, but you got to hear it in real time, I shared the abbreviated version today.
So the magnolia across the street is magnificent and I spent some time outside smoking weed and looking at it to calm myself.
Lawyer says he will be able to bill my passport issue to the donated defense fund because it is obvious that this is personal.
To be fair, this one was kinda correct. Not like the other FIVE times. This time I sent everything in AGAIN in plenty of time, but they didn’t look at it until it was past the deadline. The supremes have said that postmark date doesn’t matter anymore, the processing date is all that is important. Assholes one and all.
I know I’m on their list, Kegsworth has already said he wants to limit travel for people like me, I should have started acting then. So I guess this is also kinda my fault because I could have gotten my passport back when I changed my DL and car registration but I was tired of the paperwork.
Ya wanna know what I’m doing tonight? I’m re-dying my Handmaid uniform because the red is so faded. Finding the dye wasn’t nearly as hard as finding laundry blueing. That’s probably because the newer generations don’t use it, they use bleach.
I will NOT sit down and shut up.
In better news, I’m buying another house. OK, that’s not right, I’m buying a house back. I don’t know how many folks remember but a while back I bought a small house close to one of Hub’s cousins so his daughter could move close enough to visit and take care of him. They bought it from me once they had financing arranged.
Well, cousin is not getting any younger and is starting to need more care. Her husband has been splitting his time between their home in GA and here while remodeling both houses for wheelchair users. Their house in GA is almost finished and they are going to move him in there. He will have his own suite with access to the main house and the pics look very nice.
She wants to sell her house back to me for a hundred dollars over what she paid for it which is super unfair. They have remodeled the bathroom (she’s in a wheelchair) and kitchen plus did a lot of landscaping.
She also wants me to buy the dad’s place and flip it, we will be discussing that over the weekend.
ETA: I have no idea why the political stuff isn’t blurred. Or maybe it is and I just can’t see it, please say something either way.
Grrr! The damn computer restarted because of an update. I hate that, it signs me out of all the sites. It makes my tabs go away. Yes I have it set up to restore to previous condition, but I’m still signed out. Getting back into the Slack stream is always a huge PITA, but I need it to stay up with work.
Follow-up went well. She’s cleared for most activities to tolerance. Her cancer was basically the earliest possible stage, and chances of recurrence are almost zero. Not quite zero, so she’ll still have follow-ups every six months or so. But doc is really happy with her recovery so far.
Evening all. Can hear the rain falling outside, but no thunderbolts and lightning yet, so not very frightening. Have had some ham-n-cheese sammiches just because I can and they hit the spot just right. Might try to get to the gym anyways, but probably not. One good thing about being inside was I got to watch my all-time favorite MASH episode (it’s called “Dreams” and if you’ve watched MASH you know exactly which episode I’m talking about).
Mollie, Lays are my wafer-spud of choice, but any chip will do.
JtC, our trees are just starting to bud, still looks pretty bare around here. Hope you keep at them over the passport…maybe CNN would cover it as a human-interest story…and happy house-buying.
